Strictly operating below best in 2 starts over hurdles so far this season but return to this venue from an easing mark an obvious plus. Better showing anticipated. Tongue tie on 1st time. Well beaten on latest outing but is back on same mark as when winning this race in 2022.

Seen only 3 times subsequently, running respectably granted the run of the race when third at Cheltenham (16.8f) in December. No forlorn hope back from 7 months off. C&D winner last year and creditable third at Cheltenham in December; could be big player.

Disappointed next 2 starts though and looked set for a minor role when falling late on at Warwick (2m) in May. Signalled return to form before late fall in May; still on good mark.

However, it's all been rather low key since, including in 2 spins on the level for present connections. Safely held on both Flat starts for new stable; back hurdling with a lot to prove.

LTO Selection:

Four-time C&D winner Jamacho is always dangerous to discount at this venue and he shouldn't be underestimated racing off the same mark as when tasting victory in last year's renewal. Preference, however, is for OAKLEY, who is only 1lb higher than for his success here in March last year and he has been sparingly raced since. Finest View was still in contention when falling at the last at Warwick and is another to consider if none the worse for that spill.

Multiple C&D winner JAMACHO needs to shrug off a couple of lesser efforts since returning this term but he's been afforded a chance by the assessor and he could just be worth siding with returned to this venue/equipped with a first-time tongue tie. Enthused is going through a good spell and can figure, with Hurricane Ali another live player under Brian Hughes.

Topweight OAKLEY (nap) has fitness to prove but the form of his Cheltenham third in December reads well and rain won't bother him.

Born Famous is bidding for a fourth consecutive success since joining Iain Jardine. She shoulders another 5lb for last month's Aintree victory but remains competitively weighted compered to her hurdles rating. However, dropping back in trip leaves her vulnerable and a chance is taken on three-time course winner SWORD OF FATE, who seems to be most effective at this course and is a strong player on these terms. Wasdell Dundalk has plenty to find on recent form.

BORN FAMOUS has proved an all-round improved model upon joining Iain Jardine, completing a hurdle/chase hat-trick with a bit to spare at Aintree in June. Versatile as regards trip and open to further progress in this sphere, she gets the vote ahead of Norley, who ought to give the selection a good deal to think about.

The mare BORN FAMOUS is the youngster of the party and has been firmly on the upgrade for her new stable, including on soft ground.

No match for winner when second on chase/handicap debut but remains unexposed.

More severe headgear enlisted and the tongue tie goes back on, but easy enough to look elsewhere once again. Well held when fourth at Southwell a fortnight ago and remains without a win since 2021.

JET OF DREAMS shaped with promise on his fencing bow over 2m at Southwell last month. He kept on well enough to suggest a step up in trip could suit and, with improvement likely, Warren Greatrex's charge can go one better. If I Say showed some promise when a well-held second at Worcester last month and has scope for improvement after only two chase starts, while Atlantic Storm appeals most of the remainder.

JET OF DREAMS offered plenty to work on sent chasing when finishing runner-up at Southwell just less than 3 weeks ago and with improvement on the cards, Warren Greatrex's 5-y-o is fancied to go one better with a fully-fledged rider taking over. If I Say showed the benefit of her reappearance at Worcester recently so she's put forward as the main threat, with Atlantic Storm and Gouet des Bruyeres others fancied to go well.

Preference is for GOUET DES BRUYERES, who was placed twice off a 2lb higher mark in May and can be forgiven last month's lesser effort.

Arrived late on scene to win at Newcastle (2m4f, heavy) in March; wind surgery soon after.

Won here on second chase start when the step up to 3m seemingly played a big part.

The refitting of a hood prompted an improved effort from PETRASTAR when he won over fences here last month. The gelding has a good record in this discipline, with his two previous hurdles wins at this course boding well for the task in hand. This is deeper than the race Themanintheboots landed here last month, so Starlyte could be a bigger threat.

The trio of last-time-out winners look the ones to focus on, with PETRASTAR selected to make a winning return to hurdling having been a wide-margin winner on his second start over fences here just over 3 weeks ago. Second choice is Irish-raider Themanintheboots, who was another winner on that card and though hit hard by the handicapper, is fancied to be in the mix once again. Fabuleux du Clos makes his return after 4 months off the track and he completes the shortlist.

Petrastar showed the benefit of a step up to 3m last time but Themanintheboots and FABULEUX DU CLOS (nap) can do the same today.

A winner over course and distance off this mark in May, prior to a couple of third-place finishes, it might be worth siding with the largely consistent veteran STEEL WAVE. Hunting Percival was pulled up in that same contest, but he could fare better following a confidence-boosting success over timber. Last year's winner Rostello must enter the reckoning, while Ecossais is noted on his first start post-wind surgery.

HUNTING PERCIVAL showed very little on chase debut earlier in the year but there was no fluke about his success over hurdles here last week and he's given another chance over fences in a race which shouldn't take much winning. Steel Wave has a positive recent C&D record and looks the main danger, with Conceal just about the pick of the rest.

The two most appealing propositions are last year's winner ROSTELLO and the veteran Steel Wave.

GAMBIE TIEP left a favourable impression with a facile victory over fences at Uttoxeter on his debut for Ben Pauling last month and is hard to oppose, despite switching back to timber. The seven-year-old is a solid candidate given his stable's current outstanding strike-rate. Fathers Advice concedes plenty of weight to the selection but commands respect, while Flylikeaneagle is fit from the Flat and can also go well.

GAMBLE TIEP looks a bargain buy for the Ben Pauling yard after a most impressive victory over fences at Uttoxeter on Tuesday and should take plenty of beating quickly switched back to hurdles. Fathers Advice produced a rare below-par effort at this course last time but rates the biggest threat, with Flylikeaneagle the pick of the remainder.

The evidence of a handicap chase at Uttoxeter five days ago puts GAMBIE TIEP way ahead in calculations for this hurdle race.
