(1) Ocean Odyssey 6/4, Well treated at weights when landing a handicap by 5l off 57 over 8f at Southwell last time; top course jockey; could follow up, but both wins have come at Southwell
Won easily on stable debut last week (AW) and he's 7lb well in with his penalty.
LTO Selection:hiden content, hiden content, hiden content, hiden content

Having made a perfect stable bow at Southwell last Friday, OCEAN ODYSSEY could prove a tough nut to crack under a 5lb penalty. James Owen's charge has yet to place on turf in five outings, which makes recent Carlisle scorer Falcon Nine a feasible alternative. The five-year-old is also shouldering a 5lb penalty and isn't taken lightly, while Concert Boy is a potential improver for stepping up in trip.

Last week's Southwell winner OCEAN ODYSSEY may have more on his plate here but it could easily be onward and upwards for James Owen.

SANBONA finished a respectable third in a class 6 handicap at Ayr last month and drops to this level for the first time. If Michael Dods' charge can back that performance up, he could prove hard to beat. My Boy Jack hasn't finished outside of the top three in each of his last five starts and is likely to be on the premises. Golden Prosperity completes the shortlist.

This typically knotty classified can see CROCUS TIME make her breakthrough. My Boy Jack is likely to be in the thick of it again.

MISSION CLASSIFIED lost little in defeat when finishing second at Brighton in June, with the third subsequently making light work of an opening mark of 71. Archie Watson's inmate could open his account at third time of asking at the main expense of Schrodinger's Cat. The son of Ardad arrives on the back of some creditable efforts in defeat and another good account is forecast. Jungle Monarch is the pick of the remainder.

Another chance is given to JUNGLE MONARCH. Second choice is Mission Classified.

DANEH OF DANDY made a strong impression on her debut at Ripon prior to being well beaten in a Group 3 at Ascot last time, and she sets a fair standard with an official rating of 84. Fille Unique showed ability when fourth on her introduction at Beverley last month and could have lots more to offer, while Angela's Baar is another to keep an eye on.

Angela's Baar can be forgiven her last run but DANEH OF DANDY sets a good standard and is hard to get away from.

Homestrait has yet to finish outside of the first two places in six outings to date and a repeat of her latest second at Carlisle should see her in the thick of the action once more. Lexington Express finished a close third on her nursery bow at Chepstow last month and has to be respected off the same mark. However, PREMINISION wasn't disgraced in fourth over 6f here last time and this step up in trip looks a good move. She could have more to come and can capitalise on a 2lb lower rating. London isn't ruled out either.

The majority have something to recommend them, notably LONDON who can build on a respectable C&D stable debut now she enters nurseries.

Individualism struck in good style at Hamilton prior to running too badly to be true when well beaten at Thirsk last week and he might be worth another chance. However, GRESSINGTON showed more when finishing fourth at Doncaster in June and was dropped 1lb. Ed Bethell's four-year-old lurks on an appealing rating and looks the way to go. The hat-trick seeking Inanna is another to watch out for.

Having performed creditably behind subsequent winners last time, the 3yo FAR ABOVE DREAM (nap) looks particularly interesting.

With two wins from his last three starts, the latest of those coming at Doncaster, KING'S CROWN could be the answer once more. Parisiac struggled at Hamilton three weeks ago but he must be of interest now dropped in class. Others to note include Glory Fighter and Miss Brazen.

King's Crown looks set to go well but this is a drop in class for SOUTH PARADE and she can exploit her dangerous mark.

AL HUSSAR produced a much better effort when hitting the woodwork in this class at Thirsk last week and is 2lb well-in compared to future events. Protest Rally is a C&D winner who wasn't disgraced in fourth over track and trip last time and is one to take seriously. Pop Star is another to consider.

With the blinkers retained, AL HUSSAR could well back up his latest effort and record a first success of the season.

Although no match for an impressive winner in the Old Newton Cup at Haydock last time out, it was still a fine effort in defeat from PADDY THE SQUIRE. The son of Golden Horn has much less on his plate here and compensation could await despite having a 2lb higher mark to contend with. Melek Alreeh went agonisingly close at Newbury last time and he merits plenty of respect, as does the lightly-raced Ribble Vibe, for all that there is a suspicion slower ground would be more suitable for him.

There could be a gallop on and MELEK ALREEH won't mind that. A little unlucky when beaten a head last time, he can gain compensation.

KARA DE THAIX didn't get far on her return at Kilbeggan recently but may be worth another chance here. The Jeu St Eloi mare hung badly left there a fortnight ago before being taken out of the race before the fifth flight. She had run well in a decent maiden hurdle when third at Fairyhouse back in January and on that form she's up to winning a race of this standard. Fool Me Once disappointed on his last outing at Downpatrick but had been runner-up at the same venue before that and would be a big player on previous form. Cosmos D'ainay, a Sligo bumper winner, weakened tamely on his hurdling debut at Tipperary and is better than that run.

Likely to be a battle of the big stables and KARA DE THAIX is chosen to come home in front

SIMPLE STAR ticks plenty of boxes with two C&D successes and two wins over hurdles since. Although not at his best recently with fifth of six here over 2m, he may be allowed to make his own pace dropping back in trip. Naturalia seems likely to prove popular after winning by a head at Ayr last month, but an added 3lb means she will have to improve, while handicap debutant Storm On Jura is worth a market watch stepping up in trip.

With her Ayr success a solid piece of form, NATURALIA could well follow up. Cascade Hall is second choice.

STELLA ALPINA tries this distance for the first time but has strong form claims. Related to plenty winners, she was a runner-up on three of six runs this year and while she has been frustrating to follow and now drops a furlong in distance, is suited by a sound surface and has plenty of pace. Four-year-old Viamonte is very much proven at this distance and while sure to run his usual consistent race on suitably good ground, is vulnerable to a more capable type. Shadow Of The Moon appeals most of the remainder.

Not the strongest maiden and STELLA ALPINA (nap) looks capable of scoring after bouncing back to form with a close 2nd latest

SOLE SPIRIT was given some time off having been pulled up at Southwell in December and that appeared to work the oracle, as he came home best of all to record a narrow success at Doncaster in June. A subsequent 3lb rise looks fair and with conditions to suit, Bryan Smart's gelding could go in again. Uncle Sam struck the crossbar on his return to action on Saturday and makes significant appeal on the back of that display, while Get Up Everybody is also noted.

Uncle Sam ran well here on his recent stable debut but the unexposed SOLE SPIRIT (nap) can make it 2-2 in handicaps this season.

CHOSEN SHANT showed her rivals a clean pair of heels around here 15 days ago and can repeat the dose. Letting her do her own thing in front then seemed to make all the difference and if she gets away on the lead again the Shantou mare could take a bit of pegging back again, despite a 9lb hike for that victory. He is expected to turn that form around with that race's winner My Girl Sioux. Nezeeh was narrowly beaten in a better handicap at the Curragh last month and has strong claims despite being somewhat exposed.

Competitive but the unexposed 3yo, BEST SUGGESTION, is most interesting after just failing to get his head in front last time out

LTO Selection:

Charlie Appleby has won this three times in the last 10 years and any strong support for AL ZANATI could prove significant. The Dubawi colt is a brother to winner in France and William Buick prefers his chances to those of stablemate Leone Alato. King's Trust sports the royal colours and Ryan Moore's presence takes the eye, while the Night Of Thunder progeny Infinite Dream is another likely type worth a second look.

The betting will provide clues but as things stand LEONE ALATO is marginally preferred to stablemate Al Zanati.

Dual course and distance winner INCHIQUIN STAR may be worth a shot in this. The Mount Nelson mare won on this card last year when taking the preceding mares event. She has been in winning form on the Flat this season and looks on a competitive mark now back over timber. Bowensonfire takes a drop in class after lining up in the Galway Hurdle last week. Unfortunately he unseated at the first after getting hampered but had been in fine form previously and commands respect. Red Glory made a winning return at Tipperary last month and is another that has to be considered.

Gordon Elliott's BOWENSONFIRE is in good form at the moment and if his unseat at Galway hasn't left an impression, he is a big player

Clear Force will find life easier in this nursery having faced a couple of tough assignments since landing a novice race at Ripon. He has bags of early pace, but will likely be taken on for the lead by Under The Radar, and that could play into the hands of SILENT APPLAUSE. Charlie Appleby's charge beat a subsequent winner with the minimum of fuss at Nottingham on his first start over 5f and could prove better than his opening mark.

Godolphin's SILENT APPLAUSE cost 1,400,000gns at the breeze-ups in April and is open to improvement on his nursery debut.

BRUSSELS failed to make the grade in Newmarket's July Stakes but drops to Listed level. A promising Curragh debut winner where he defeated three subsequent maiden winners, he was outclassed at Newmarket but that was a Group 2 contest and the first two finishers respectively filled first and third-places in Goodwood's subsequent Vintage Stakes. Chesham Stakes runner-up Thesecretadversary was over-turned as 2/13 favourite behind a newcomer at Ayr last month, which is a concern. Although he will appreciate today's likely faster ground, his Royal Ascot form took a knock as winner Humidity finished seventh in the aforementioned Vintage Stakes. Maximum Scepticism should struggle to turn placings with the selection on Curragh form.

BRUSSELS was far from disgraced in the Group 2 July Stakes last time and he should be able to regain the winning thread here

Bayou Belle has been running consistently and has to have a shout in this grade having been eased a couple of pounds since her fourth placed effort at Kilbeggan. Connections try her over further now. Dont Tell Shirley, a point-to-point winner last November, remains unexposed and money for her would be interesting.

Locally trained POETIC FOCUS stayed on nicely from the back on her handicap debut at Bellewstown and there could be more to come at 3m

SALIGO BAY won an amateur race over 1m4f when last seen at this venue in May. This longer trip holds no fears for Sam England's inmate, given he's subsequently scored over hurdles, and he returns to this code with a leading chance. Nibras Gold also reverts to the Flat with solid claims having made all at Beverley in June, while Fast Fred won under Pippa Brown at Carlisle this summer and can make his presence felt once again.

Top of the list is NIBRAS GOLD (nap), who is 2-3 on the Flat since joining James Owen.

FIRST TIME has shown enough to suggest he can win at this level. Harry Charlton's colt found only Gharma Sutra, now rated 91, too good at Ffos Las most recently and gets the nod on the strength of that form. Gouken showed ability when third at Newbury on debut and can have a say in proceedings, while the speedily-bred Gaurdman and Crown Office are both newcomers worthy of respect.

First Time sets the standard. Crown Office fetched 340,000gns as a yearling and GAURDMAN some 900,000euros at a breeze-up.

CLOSE ENOUGH may be able to turn the tables with Small Town Hero after losing out in a good duel here last time. The Yeats mare looked to have his measure turning for home then but the latter ground out victory in the closing stages to post a half-length victory as the pair pulled clear. Corkbeg has won here previously and looks on a competitive mark. He could be place material.

This is a below-par handicap but MS OLIVIA has upside potential. She started joint-favourite on her Dundalk debut last February and while well held, raced somewhat green and may have been unsuited by that 5f trip. Well held in two subsequent starts, her latest effort came on soft ground and, notably, she had earlier finished seven lengths ahead of today's rival Shahada Ace in April. The latter has improved since then but is certainly vulnerable to lesser-exposed types. Sugar Club was bought out of a claimer in June and had excuses last time.

Not many appeal here and possibly a good chance for SHAHADA ACE who has shaped with a bit more promise lately

A close second off 1lb higher in this race 12 months ago, DASHING DICK could be worth chancing. The seven-year-old is already a dual C&D winner and wasn't beaten far when third in a similar track-and-trip event on his most recent start. Last year's winner, Spring Bloom, is 3lb worse-off with the selection but is dangerous to ignore after also hinting at a revival here last month. Angel Shared and Wheels Of Fire also have good chances.

Waistcoat is feared back at 6f but SPRING BLOOM shaped well here three weeks ago and can repeat his 2024 success in this race.

Having stayed on late when third over half-a-mile shorter here last month. KIR ROYAL BLUE can register a first success. In a race where the eventual winner stole a march on her rivals and, was never for catching, the Liam Burke-trained gelding did well to fill the frame. A lightly-raced son of Stormy River, he should be capable of further improvement now faced with a greater test of stamina. Knockraha Eagle, who finished fourth over course and distance last time, should be involved once again. Others to note are We'llgowats and Mephisto.

A tentative vote goes to GIVE HIM A CHANCE in the hope that a return to better ground brings about an improved performance

A few with chances but preference is for WHAT'S THE PLAN, who outperformed market expectation when filling the runner-up spot on his debut. That said, Newcastle second Beny Nahar ought to be a real threat with Oisin Murphy booked, while Red Spells Danger and the Karl Burke-trained debutant Shayem could also be involved.

James Fanshawe isn't known for first-time-out 2yo winners so the debut second of WHAT'S THE PLAN bodes very well for his future.

With Sam Coen taking 7lb off his back, CRISTAL CLERE could be the answer. A consistent gelding, who has run well all season, the seven-year-old should be suited to this small field. A prominent racer, who finds plenty for pressure, the John Nallen-trained son of Harzand is favourably treated by these weights. In what is almost certain to develop into something of a tactical affair, he is taken to gain a first win of the current campaign. Recent Gowran Park winner Crypto Force has every chance of adding to those gains. Dylan Browne McMonagle, who got the fractions just right on that occasion, is once again in the saddle. An unexposed three-year-old, Nautical Force also has his chance.

There were excuses for NAUTICAL FORCE when turned over at Navan and his previous Royal Ascot fourth is working out nicely

Recent course and distance runner-up FEAR THE DEERE can go one place better. Leading two out on his recent visit here, the Tim Doyle-trained gelding stayed on well for minor honours, having been headed on the run-in. While that effort marked a huge improvement on previous form, the seven-year-old has to be given another chance at a track he clearly appreciates. Kilbeggan second My Good Pal has to be a contender under the same conditional rider. With that being his best run since joining Gavin Cromwell, there was promise of better to come. Kalaroun, who finished runner-up in a maiden hurdle over course and distance in May, should also be very competitive.

Gavin Cromwell's MY GOOD PAL (nap) may be able to shed the maiden tag here with the slight step up in trip almost certain to suit

A confident vote goes to MOONSHINE. Ed Walker's filly displayed signs of inexperience on her debut at Newbury but kept on well into third nonetheless. The daughter of Starman looks sure to benefit from the extra furlong she encounters here and is expected to go in at the second time of asking. The others with experience can be passed over, so it could be that newcomers Samra Green and Amazing Anita provide the strongest challenge.

Ed Walker does well with his 2yos here and MOONSHINE sets a strong form standard following her debut third at Newbury three weeks ago.

BARROGSTOWN GIRL has strong claims here with regular pilot Neve Bennett in the saddle. Having gained all three previous career wins under the English-born rider, the Jarlath Fahey-trained mare clearly runs well for her. Despite those successes coming over 1m2f, the daughter of Elusive Pimpernel has shaped well enough over this trip of late to suggest she has the necessary stamina. Locally-trained Slieve Bearnagh has every chance for the David Marnane yard, while others to note include Tassarolo and Eastern Wind.

It may be worth taking a chance on ROCK OF IRELAND who shaped like a return to form may be imminent at Galway last week

SOMETHING SPLENDID and Billy Loughnane formed a winning partnership in a slightly weaker race over C&D last month and there is a lot to like about their bid for back-to-back wins. A 6lb rise looks very manageable given the cosy manner of that success and more can be expected here. Zarakerjack has also made progress since being stepped up to 1m2f and could be on the premises. The penalised hat-trick seeker Gloryous is another must for the shortlist.

Lemurian has to be feared given his pedigree but GLORYOUS finished well on top in two races at the end of July.

The consistent FRAHER FIELD has every chance of recording a first career victory. Runner-up at Killarney last month, the daughter of Order Of St George had also taken minor honours on her previous two starts. With the benefit of those experiences to call upon, the John Gleeson partnered five-year-old sets a fair standard in a race of this nature. As an unraced Willie Mullins-trained newcomer, Are You Around commands obvious respect. As a half-sister to a point-to-point/handicap chase winner, she may just prefer more of a stamina test. However, given her trainers excellent record at this track, she has to enter calculations. Another debutant, Clarnagh Maid, should also be considered on her introduction.

LTO Selection:hiden content, hiden content, hiden content, hiden content

Both Stratocracy and Crown's Lady have been in excellent form recently and must enter calculations, as must Beaming Light, who hit the woodwork when attempting to complete a four-timer at Doncaster most recently. However, it might pay to side with RASCAL RECKNELL. The gelded son of Wootton Bassett took a giant leap forward to score on his first start for Mick Appleby in June and given that he remains well treated from 2lb higher, there should be more in the locker.

A chance is taken on last year's second THAPA VC who is well handicapped and has a very solid record under the returning Jim Crowley.
