Easter Icon accounted for his nearest rival by two and a half lengths over an extended 2m5f at Fontwell last time and should remain competitive off a 7lb higher rating. However, the vote goes to NACHTGEIST, who finished well clear of the third when filling the runner-up spot at Huntingdon and is only 1lb higher. The four-year-old might be able to record his first success in this sphere, while Gentleman's Relish is another to consider.

With his hurdles debut success back in the summer having been well advertised by the runner-up since, HELL HOUND produced a promising comeback run over a trip likely to prove short of his optimum at Fontwell 4 weeks ago. Starting out in handicaps from a very appealing mark, he earns the vote ahead of another improving sort in the shape of Ballytechno. Katate Dori, on seasonal bow, Gentleman's Relish and Don't Tell Su are just a trio of others worthy of a second look.

This looks difficult. KATATE DORI has more to offer this term and his connections nearly won this last year with a seasonal debutant.

Samarrive hasn't been seen since hitting the crossbar over track and trip just under year ago and it would be no surprise to see him go close off 2lb lower on his return to action. However, he might come out second best to BHALOO, who occupied the runner-up berth on his handicap debut over hurdles at Warwick in May and now makes his first chase start. Nicky Henderson's six-year-old might prove a different proposition over fences and gets the nod. What Path completes the shortlist.

Expensive winning pointer LEADER IN THE PARK looks the type to do even better over hurdles so could be on a nice mark starting out in this sphere. Samarrive has been off the track since a good second over C&D 11 months ago but he can go well fresh so rates the main threat.

None of the five can be dismissed but LEADER IN THE PARK probably has the most potential of these as a chaser.

Saint Segal returned from a wind operation to finish a well-beaten fourth at Chepstow last month, but he might improve on that effort and isn't dismissed off a 2lb lower mark. However, MARTATOR looks the way to go. Venetia Williams' seven-year-old completed a hat-trick in fine style at Sandown on his latest outing and a 7lb rise might prove to be lenient. Frere d'Armes was denied by a length into second at Kempton recently and can fight it out for the minor honours.

MASTER CHEWY enjoyed an excellent first season over fences and is fancied to capitalise on an attractive mark back in handicap company on his return. Matterhorn is worth forgiving his blip at Newton Abbot last time and could emerge as the chief threat, although Martator, Uncle Phil and Frere D'Armes can all make their presence felt too in this cracking handicap.

Class act MASTER CHEWY (nap) went up only 4lb for nearly winning a Grade 1 when last seen at Aintree and that was no fluke.

Illegal D'ainay made up for his early departure at Uttoxeter in early May when opening his account at Plumpton eight days later. Freddie Gordon's 5lb claim effectively negates most of the 6lb penalty and another prominent role is forecast, but hurdling debutant TRIPOLI FLYER may have too much class. The Fergal O'Brien-trained five-year-old finished a cracking second in the Grade 2 Aintree bumper in April and he is likely to take some stopping. Clap Of Thunder may chase the duo home.

TRIPOLI FLYER progressed with each run in bumpers last season, culminating with an excellent second in a Grade 2 at Aintree on final outing, and looks a novice hurdler to follow. Illegal d'Ainay and Clap of Thunder are fancied to battle it out for minor honours.

A weak renewal of what's often a very good race and an ideal opportunity for TRIPOLI FLYER to land running over hurdles.

Having been withdrawn at Cheltenham last week after unseating his jockey and getting loose, Fiercely Proud must keep his temperament in check. Ben Pauling's gelding should have more to offer in this second season over hurdles and he isn't taken lightly, but SECRET SQUIRREL finished two places ahead in fifth when they clashed in the Novices' Championship Final at Sandown in April and shades the verdict. Hat-trick seeking duo Break My Soul and Stream Of Stars may fare best of the remainder.

The suggestion in an interesting handicap is SECRET SQUIRREL, who has the profile of one likely to do better again this season. Fiercely Proud and Break My Soul are other 5-y-os with few miles on the clock, while Tapley is respected on the back of his recent Plumpton success.

Claims can be made for several of these but if there's a blot on the handicap it's probably Joe Tizzard's new recruit RIGHTSOTOM.

HIGHSTAKESPLAYER reappeared from a long absence to score at Kempton in February and after possibly bouncing in the Greatwood Gold Cup at Newbury 22 days later, he then registered another Kempton victory. Having gone well fresh on a right-handed track previously, this unexposed staying chaser gets the vote to score off 5lb higher. Cheltenham Festival winner Chianti Classico wasn't disgraced when fourth in an Aintree Grade 1 and enters calculations, with Amirite and Neon Moon just two more to consider.

Lots with chances but Ultima hero CHIANTI CLASSICO begins his second season as a chaser on an attractive mark and with better to come from Kim Bailey's highly progressive sort he looks very much the way to go. Highstakesplayer boasts an impressive strike rate over fences and heads the list of dangers, although the lightly-raced Our Power is also weighted to have a say and in-form duo Hidden Depths and Mylesfromwicklow need factoring in too.

2022 winner OUR POWER has an awful lot in his favour as he'll love the ground, goes well fresh and his handicap mark is fine.

MISS IRELAND belied obvious inexperience to make a winning start under Rules in a Fontwell bumper and that looked a smart effort, despite her eccentricities throughout the race. Sporting first-time cheekpieces, she gets the vote to go in again and confirm herself a promising individual. There is plenty to like about Eternal Angel's chances on paper and he must enter calculations on his introduction for a top stable. Kajikia and Oakley's Way are also noteworthy.

DRACO MALFOY fetched six figures after landing the second of his two starts in points and his in-form stable should have him well forward for this first go under Rules, so he takes preference over Eternal Angel and Kajikia, who both represent top yards. Youdecide is another interesting point recruit.

An open-looking bumper. OAKLEY'S WAY showed distinct promise in what we now know was a strong race at Wincanton.
Ths is the racecard key.
