Not beaten far at Wincanton (1m7f) recently and this move back up in trip will suit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (6/1 -20%)El Galactico |
6/1(-20%) | (7) El Galactico 6/1, Won a novice hurdle at Plumpton by 3 1/2l last time; 2-3 in short career; strong form and remains of interest on handicap debut. Makes handicap debut after winning two four-runner novice races. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (8) (6/1 -33%)Mount Anglesby |
6/1(-33%) | (8) Mount Anglesby 6/1, Improved down in grade to land a handicap by 1/2l off a 3lb lower mark here last time; effective 2–2 1/2m over hurdles and acts on good ground; progressing for new yard. Won here (2m3f) last month and ought to remain very competitive after 3lb rise. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (11) (25/1 +11%)Lucky One |
25/1(+11%) | (11) Lucky One 25/1, Had too much to do when ridden to see out the trip and was comfortably held in a handicap hurdle at Chepstow last time; effective at 2 1/2m and suited by cut; fair mark on French form but unreliable. Placed in October, after a break, but this regressive 10yo was safely held last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (1) (6/1 +33%)Samuel Spade |
6/1(+33%) | (1) Samuel Spade 6/1, Made too much use of and failed to stay when well beaten in a handicap hurdle at Newbury last time; best around 2 1/2m and barely gets 3m; handicapper has relented and drop in trip a plus; interesting back at scene of last win. Won here (2m7f) in February but well below that form on both starts this season. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (3) (8/1 -33%)Kapal Layar |
8/1(-33%) | (3) Kapal Layar 8/1, Needed the run when down the field in a handicap hurdle at Carlisle most recently; had been in good form beforehand; effective at 2 1/2m and progressive in spring, may stay 3m in time. 2-6 over hurdles; disappointed last month, after a break, but may still have potential. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (2) (20/1 -67%)Lord Snootie |
20/1(-67%) | (2) Lord Snootie 20/1, Needed the run on chase debut, ran well for a long way until fitness told and finished well beaten in a handicap chase at Chepstow last time; back from a long absence with a bit to find. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (10) (40/1 -150%)Godot |
40/1(-150%) | (10) Godot 40/1, Outpaced and a bit below form when second, beaten 22l, in a handicap hurdle at Lingfield last time; returning from a long layoff; effective 2 1/2m and suited by cut; in fair form but mark probably high enough. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (12) (50/1 -100%)Moviddy |
50/1(-100%) | (12) Moviddy 50/1, Disappointing when stepped up in trip, helping set it up for a closer before finishing well beaten in a handicap hurdle here last time; effective 2 1/2–3m; better over fences. Well beaten on both starts this season (chase/hurdle) and evidently not the force of old. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

Goodwin and Mount Anglesby both arrive here in winning form and are taken seriously, but the eye is immediately drawn to EL GALACTICO's unexposed profile and there is good reason to side with Neil Mulholland's charge. It was only a four-runner race at Plumpton, but it takes a nice horse to win a novice hurdle under a penalty and he did it really comfortably, proving his versatility trip-wise in the process. He now goes handicapping off 121 and that mark may underestimate the five-year-old.

This longer trip will suit THE GRAY GHOST, who wasn't beaten far over 1m7f at Wincanton recently and has slipped to a good mark.

4/1(-100%) | (9) Off The Jury 4/1, Needed the run and hung under pressure when third, beaten 4 1/2l, in a novice hurdle here last time. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (33/1 +59%)Definite Call |
33/1(+59%) | (4) Definite Call 33/1, Made a promising hurdle debut when third, beaten 15l, in a maiden at Ffos Las last time. Absent for a long spell but effective at 2 1/2m and acts on any going; should improve for experience and looks a strong stayer likely to get 3m in time. Placed on hurdle debut in November 2023 but returns from long absence in a strong maiden. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) (80/1 -100%)Les's Destiny Star |
80/1(-100%) | (8) Les's Destiny Star 80/1, Green in front and ran well for a long way on debut when fourth, beaten 6 1/4l in a novice hurdle at Lingfield last time. Effective at 2 1/2m, acts on good to soft, and still has potential over hurdles. Faded into fourth on hurdle debut at Lingfield and contests stronger race here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (250/1 -25%)Fury Lad |
250/1(-25%) | (6) Fury Lad 250/1, Pulled up in a maiden hurdle at Plumpton last time and has yet to show much ability under rules. Pulled up when 66-1 for recent hurdle debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

Crystal Island impressively won a point-to-point in Ireland and now debuts under Rules for the powerful Nicky Henderson yard, so must be taken seriously. Big Ticket and Off The Jury aren't out of this either but the verdict is for GAELIC PRIDE, who has finished runner-up in maiden hurdles at Fontwell and Cheltenham. That latest piece of form at the November fixture reads well and he's the one to beat.

The suggestion is GAELIC PRIDE, who moves up in trip after two creditable efforts over 2m. Big Ticket is second choice.

1st (4) (5/1 -67%)Vanderpoel |
5/1(-67%) | (4) Vanderpoel 5/1, Ran to form up in trip when second beaten 24l in a handicap chase at Lingfield last time. Effective over 2-2 1/2m and handles good to soft ground. Yard's horses tend to improve for chasing and remain competitive. Well held when making the frame in both chases but was against useful opposition. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (9/4 +36%)Stencil |
9/4(+36%) | (2) Stencil 9/4, Comfortably held in the Arkle Challenge Trophy Trial Novices' Chase (Grade 2) at Cheltenham last time. Wears a hood for the first time; effective over 2m and handles ground with some cut. Can do better when ridden more positively and looks the class angle. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (6/5 +47%)Excelero |
6/5(+47%) | (3) Excelero 6/5, Won comfortably by 9 1/2l off a 7lb lower mark at Warwick last time, improving when suited by a positive ride down in trip at a sharp track. Likes to make the running; effective over 2-2 1/4m and progressing over fences. Went up 7lb for last month's small-field Warwick win but could still have more to offer. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

Stencil finished second in a Grade 2 juvenile hurdle at Cheltenham last season, but will need to improve on his fencing bow at the same track last month. Harry Cobden keeps the ride, though, and he's fitted with a first-time hood so could step up. Vanderpoel is another to be interested in, but EXCELERO can edge a tight contest while his impressive jumping display at Warwick remains fresh in the memory.

The pick is STENCIL, who did not look out of place in a Cheltenham Grade 2 last month and may benefit from the addition of a hood.

12/1(-20%) | (6) All In You 12/1, Keen and outpaced but ran to form when beaten 5l in a Newbury handicap hurdle last time, not best placed and likely to improve. 12/1(-20%) | (8) Non Stop 12/1, Returned to form in first-time tongue tie, landing a handicap by 1 1/4l off a 4lb lower mark at Wincanton last time. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (7) (10/1 +0%)Walkadina |
10/1(+0%) | (7) Walkadina 10/1, Travelled well but was out-battled late, possibly challenging too soon, when beaten 1/2l off a 3lb lower mark at Ludlow last time. Effective over 2m on soft or good ground and looks back in form off a reasonable mark. Clear second to revitalised opponent at Ludlow recently; 2lb rise is manageable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (13) (33/1 +0%)Moab |
33/1(+0%) | (13) Moab 33/1, Scored by 4l off a 50lb lower mark at Southwell in October. Made mistakes and may not have stayed when fifth, beaten 8l off 104 last time. Effective over 2m; fair mark and drop in trip should suit. Clear second at Fontwell last month but below form on latest outing; now 0-6 over hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (1) (16/1 -60%)King William Rufus |
16/1(-60%) | (1) King William Rufus 16/1, Won this race last year but was pulled up in the Greatwood Handicap Hurdle at Cheltenham last time. Effective over 2m and acts on good to soft or good ground. Consistent performer though the current mark looks stiff. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (14) (66/1 -164%)Peking Opera |

Progressive and open to further improvement in handicaps. Narrow winner of last month's handicap debut and now 3-5 over hurdles; up in grade. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (15) (66/1 +18%)Gower Spirit |
66/1(+18%) | (15) Gower Spirit 66/1, Made too much use of when well beaten in a Newbury novice hurdle last time. Effective over 2 1/2m and handles heavy ground. Highly tried and the form of her maiden win looks modest. Surprise winner of 2m4f maiden last month; more improvement needed here. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

TASHAN showed the benefit of his seasonal debut at Chepstow when he got back to winning ways with a tenacious effort at Exeter. With the promise of more to come, this could be within the reach of Emma Lavelle's progressive four-year-old. There are dangers aplenty, however, and the likes of The Hardest Geezer and the returning Let It Rain, along with fellow last-time-out winners Non Stop and He's A Latchico, all have plenty to offer in a wide-open event.

Preference is for PARRAMOUNT, who ran very well behind an unexposed rival at Doncaster last month and remains well handicapped.

1st (1) (11/4 -57%)Steel Ally |
11/4(-57%) | (1) Steel Ally 11/4, Did it readily, the rider dropped his whip, and it was a very promising chase debut when winning a graduation chase at Carlisle by 5l last time. The trainer is in form, effective at 2m, and he looks a very useful chaser worth this step up in grade. Won in good style on chase debut at Carlisle and high on the list despite a 3lb penalty. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (12/1 +25%)Push The Button |
12/1(+25%) | (5) Push The Button 12/1, Outpaced but rallied gamely when second, beaten 1/2l, in a handicap chase at Wetherby last time. Effective from 2m to 2¾m and may not quite stay 3m, though there's more to come over fences and the step back up in trip should suit. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (7/5 +14%)No Questions Asked |
7/5(+14%) | (3) No Questions Asked 7/5, Travelled well and improved from his debut, outstayed late up in trip in a strongly run race when second, beaten 2l, in the John Francome Novices' Chase (Grade 2) at Newbury last time. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (5/2 +17%)Jax Junior |
5/2(+17%) | (2) Jax Junior 5/2, Jumped well and travelled strongly, showing improvement from his debut when winning a beginners' chase at Kempton by 12l last time. Effective from 2m to 2m4f and handles good to soft and good ground; progressing over fences. Commanding winner at Kempton on second chase start; may well have more to offer; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (16/1 +20%)Personal Ambition |
16/1(+20%) | (4) Personal Ambition 16/1, Was pulled up in a handicap hurdle at Newbury last time; runner up in this last year and has experience edge but looks clear stable second string. May well have won this 12 months ago but for bad mistake; form has been patchy since. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.

The winner of three of his six outings over hurdles, NO QUESTIONS ASKED has made a promising start over the larger obstacles. He won over C&D on last month's chasing bow prior to finishing a highly creditable second in Grade 2 company at Newbury and there looks plenty more to come from Ben Pauling's charge. Steel Ally is another smart recruit to the chasing ranks having scored nicely at Carlisle, while Kempton winner Jax Junior may prove the pick of the remainder.

Preference is for JAX JUNIOR (nap), who was impressive at Kempton and is open to further improvement over fences.

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (15) (25/1 -25%)Vango Can Go |
25/1(-25%) | (15) Vango Can Go 25/1, Promising debut suited by a stiff test when winning a bumper at Southwell by 4l last time. Effective at 2m and acts on soft ground. Likely to stay further in time and should improve a little. Displayed awkward head carriage at Southwell but was an emphatic winner in the end. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.

The winner of an Irish point-to-point, BASS HUNTER made an impressive debut under Rules when beating a subsequent hurdles winner by eight lengths at Newbury. Chris Gordon's charge looks to have a bright future on that evidence and is taken to edge a competitive affair. Black Eddy has switched yards since landing a Chepstow bumper on debut and he can feature, while Sea The Day is preferred of Dan Skelton's three runners. Sappingirl and No Way Jay are others to note.

There is no strong temptation to oppose BASS HUNTER, who created a very good impression when dominating from the front at Newbury.
Ths is the racecard key.
