1st (1) (9/2 -50%)Kovanis |
9/2(-50%) | (1) Kovanis 9/2, Finished third, beaten 10l, in a 2m maiden hurdle at Punchestown last time. Effective at 2m and handles decent ground. A point winner whose debut effort is worth marking up, and he should improve for this step up in trip. Shaped as if this trip will suit on Punchestown debut last month; one to consider. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (7/4 -17%)I Am Lorenzo |
7/4(-17%) | (6) I Am Lorenzo 7/4, Outclassed when well beaten in the Grade 1 Nathaniel Lacy & Partners Solicitors Novice Hurdle over 2m6f at Leopardstown last time. Had been in good form prior and returns from a long layoff. Looks the one to beat on race times. Smart maiden form last season for Gavin Cromwell; big player for in-form Paul Nolan yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (8) (2/1 +67%)Le Kap |
2/1(+67%) | (8) Le Kap 2/1, Made a very promising debut when fourth, beaten 11l, in a 2m3f maiden hurdle at Punchestown. Trainer in form, effective at 2½m, and his debut form has been franked. Should progress from that run. Encouraging debut back Punchestown run in June; more expected of on return. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (9) (33/1 -83%)Oaks Soldier |
33/1(-83%) | (9) Oaks Soldier 33/1, Green and made mistakes when third, beaten 15l, in a maiden hurdle here on debut. Effective at around 2½m and handles good ground. Debut form has had knocks, so needs to improve a bit. C&D debut third back in April was encouraging; this looks a stronger maiden though. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (5/2 -11%)St Lawrence's Well |
5/2(-11%) | (2) St Lawrence's Well 5/2, Produced a very promising debut when second, beaten 15l, in a 3m novice hurdle at Cork. Effective from 2½m to 3m and acts on good ground. A point and bumper winner whose debut form has been franked at Listed level, with more to come over hurdles. Outstayed by a lesser-fancied stablemate over 3m at Cork; drop in trip may suit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (18/1 -29%)Kaiser De Chanay |
18/1(-29%) | (7) Kaiser De Chanay 18/1, Ran a promising race when second, beaten 1½l, in a 3m maiden at Turtulla on debut. Returns from a long layoff and wears a tongue-tie for the first time. Needs to find plenty more. Points' second worth a look for market support on rules debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (10) (150/1 +0%)Simple Old Game |
150/1(+0%) | (10) Simple Old Game 150/1, Below form when finishing down the field in a 2m3f maiden hurdle at Punchestown last time and has yet to show any meaningful ability. Modest point-to-point form and similarly in maiden hurdles at Limerick and Punchestown. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (11) (150/1 -50%)Something Simple |
150/1(-50%) | (11) Something Simple 150/1, Outpaced but improved when comfortably held in a 2m1f maiden hurdle here last time. Effective from 2m1f to 2m2f and acts on good or soft ground. Needs further but has plenty to find at this level. Two maiden hurdle efforts don't inspire confidence. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (4) (300/1 -50%)Casafierna |
300/1(-50%) | (4) Casafierna 300/1, Finished down the field on return in a bumper at Listowel last time. Usually held up and yet to show any worthwhile ability under rules. Struggled in two bumpers and a Clonmel maiden hurdle; others more likely. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (3) (250/1 -67%)Apalachiyeats |
250/1(-67%) | (3) Apalachiyeats 250/1, Never involved when well beaten in a 2m3f maiden hurdle at Limerick last time. Usually held up and has shown nothing in either a bumper or over hurdles. Tailed-off in a bumper and two maiden hurdles haven't offered much. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (12) (100/1 +33%)Who's The Dancer |
100/1(+33%) | (12) Who's The Dancer 100/1, Outpaced and modest on hurdle debut when well beaten in a 2m2f maiden hurdle at Listowel last time. Has modest point form and needs to show more under rules. Never sighted on hurdles debut at Listowel; can only be watched. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|RO| (5) (250/1 -67%)Gethegoodtimesroll |
250/1(-67%) | (5) Gethegoodtimesroll 250/1, Outpaced and showed little when well beaten in a 2m bumper at Roscommon on his only start. Faces a stiff task. Never sighted on debut in Roscommon bumper; can only be watched now tackling hurdles. |

I AM LORENZO hasn't run since struggling at Grade 1 level in February, but has nice ability. Previously trained by Gavin Cromwell, his maiden hurdle form was useful and although his lack of a recent run is a concern, his yard is doing well and he likes soft ground. St Lawrence's Well has a race-fitness advantage and was defeated by a subsequent Listed winner at Cork last time. He drops in distance and competes on softer ground, but should give the selection a race under his 7lb claimer. Kovanis won a Leopardstown bumper last Christmas. but was well enough held on his reappearance at Punchestown last month.

Just denied over this trip at Leopardstown last season for Gavin Cromwell, I AM LORENZO looks the one to beat on his return to action

1st (5) (2/7 +64%)Scope To Improve |
2/7(+64%) | (5) Scope To Improve 2/7, Keen when down the field in the Weatherbys nhstallions.co.uk NH Flat Race (Grade 2) at Aintree last time; trainer in form and poses a threat. Naas bumper winner had excuses at Aintree; the one to beat on hurdles debut in weak maiden. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (22/1 -38%)Themanintheanorak |
22/1(-38%) | (7) Themanintheanorak 22/1, Outpaced but ran to form and looked in need of a stiffer test when comfortably held in a maiden hurdle over 2m at Limerick last time; effective at 2 1/2m on good ground; in fair form though this may be on the sharp side. 2m4f bumper winner; two maiden runs ordinary, more likely one for handicaps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (8/1 -23%)Big Dispute |
8/1(-23%) | (3) Big Dispute 8/1, Went clear and ran to form but did too much too soon when 3 1/2l third in an auction hurdle over 2m4f at Cork last time; effective at 2 1/2m, acts on good ground, likes to front run; improved in recent runs and remains competitive. Front-runner placed in maidens at Killarney and Cork over this trip; claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (5/1 -43%)If You Believe |
5/1(-43%) | (1) If You Believe 5/1, Yard won this last year; showed up well for a long way in a good race on debut when down the field in a 4yo bumper at Punchestown last time; needs to improve. Points' winner midfield on bumper debut back in April; switches to hurdles on return. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (50/1 -127%)Cockney Cleopatra |
50/1(-127%) | (9) Cockney Cleopatra 50/1, Outpaced and rallied, showing improvement from debut when comfortably held in a maiden hurdle over 2m at Limerick last time; may need a bit further than 2m to show best. Rider reported her a difficult ride at Limerick; seems best watched for now. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (20/1 +0%)Hillberry Hill |
20/1(+0%) | (4) Hillberry Hill 20/1, Kingston Hill gelding; the yard can get the odd debut winner; worth watching the betting. Debutant for whom market best guide. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (33/1 -65%)Dunleer Crystal |
33/1(-65%) | (8) Dunleer Crystal 33/1, Crystal Ocean gelding; half-brother to Toughasoldboots, a fair performer at 20f; represents a top trainer. Seemingly the lesser-fancied of the Elliott pair but worth a look nonetheless. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (2) (25/1 -108%)Button Rock |
25/1(-108%) | (2) Button Rock 25/1, Outpaced on a modest debut when well beaten in a maiden hurdle over 2m4f at Punchestown last time; may find 2m on the sharp side on hurdle debut. Too keen and hung when well beaten at Punchestown recently; much more needed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (6) (100/1 -150%)Sock It To Me |
100/1(-150%) | (6) Sock It To Me 100/1, 7,500 euros Shirocco gelding; likely best watched for now. Debutant likely best watched. |

Point-to-point and bumper winner SCOPE TO IMPROVE debuts over hurdles and can continue his yard's good run. Successful in a Necarne point, he scored nicely at Naas in December but disappointed somewhat when racing a little keenly at the Aintree Festival. He will be ready on reappearance and notably receives weight from his principal dangers. Top-weight If You Believe also scored between the flags and although well held in a valuable bumper at Punchestown in April, that is traditionally a strong race. Bumper winner Big Dispute is rated just 104 and while he appears to be better than that mark, might still struggle to win this.

Bumper winner SCOPE TO IMPROVE looks the one to beat now on hurdles debut

RISING DUST has progressed well and might defy his latest rise in the ratings. His recent form has been on a sound surface, but he does stay very well and remains open to some more improvement, racing from a light weight. Six-time winner Grange Walk has been running well over fences and timber recently and a different 7lb claimer is back on board for his return to hurdling. Intent Approach reappeared following a 528-day layoff at Listowel in September so should improve from that run.

Perhaps INTENT APPROACH may have derived enough benefit from his Listowel return to thwart the hat-trick seeker Rising Dust

SPINDLEBERRY won all three novice chase runs and can confirm February placings with chief rival Bioluminescence. Runner-up at Grade 1 level over hurdles, Willie Mullins' high-class mare took very well to fences last season and concluded with a fine defeat of smart geldings Firefox and Champ Kiely in Fairyhouse's WillowWarm Gold Cup. Bioluminescence conceded 10lb to the selection in the aforementioned February race and although she now receives 2lb, she lacks a little of Spindleberry's ability. Kilbarry Saint should win the chase for the other black-type place.

Grade 1 winner SPINDLEBERRY beat Bioluminescence readily at Fairyhouse last season and may emerge best despite much altered terms

The 169-rated IL ETAIT TEMPS can take this on the way to a possible tilt at the Tingle Creek at Sandown. He has won five of his seven races over fences, including four at Grade One level. He goes well fresh and should make light of an absence since April when he landed the Celebration Chase. His stablemate Gentleman De Mee is weighted to make a race of it. He was last seen finishing fourth in a Grade 2 on the same Sandown card in April. He doesn't have the same strike rate over fences, but is a worthy opponent. Senecia and former Irish Grand National winner Intense Raffles may have to tussle for third place.

This looks a good opportunity for IL ETAIT TEMPS on seasonal return, although no easy task conceding 9lb to Gentleman De Mee

The forecast rain won't be welcomed by a lot of these horses. FREMANTLE DOCTOR's best result in this sphere came over a similar trip at Roscommon on soft ground last year when he took the runner-up berth. He was placed over further at Sligo last month and it could be a shrewd move reverting back to this distance. Ballycashin absolutely loves her trips to Clonmel and has a shot at exploiting her lower chase mark, particularly with Anna McGuinness easing the joint top-weight's burden by 7lb. Darragh O'Keeffe is in red-hot form and is set for another good spin on the consistent Onefortheditch. Recent Clonmel winner Kobalt St Georges and Baltinglass Hill will have their supporters.

With Anna McGuinness again claiming 7lb, BALLYCASHIN (nap) has a good chance of adding to a recent handicap hurdle at this venue

PANJANDRUM was the subject of a positive report in a recent stable tour and could be up to making a winning racecourse debut. He landed a point-to-point in Britain for Gina Andrews last Christmas and was sold at the sales in January before being placed with Gordon Elliott. The softening ground ought to suit him well. Grandy Lane has switched to Gavin Cromwell after being pipped by a head in a Sligo maiden hurdle in May for Ian Donoghue, so is a major player. Hillfort Manor might be one that could improve upon a fourth place at Thurles last month.

Slight preference is for Gigginstown's former Gina Andrews-trained winner PANJANDRUM over Grandy Lane
Ths is the racecard key.
