|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (11/8 +59%)Hardly Surprising |
11/8(+59%) | (5) Hardly Surprising 11/8, Improved for the step up in trip when a length third in a maiden hurdle at Bangor-on-Dee last time. Off a short break; a point winner who acts on soft and good to soft ground and is progressing under rules. Has shown he's up to winning a race of this nature and looks sure to keep improving. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (10) (28/1 -40%)Name Me Nicely |
28/1(-40%) | (10) Name Me Nicely 28/1, Unseated in a novice hurdle here last time when looking a huge threat in race won by useful rival. Acts on good to soft and could find a maiden soon. In the process of showing improved form when departing late on over C&D last month. |

5th (4) (9/2 -13%)Dig Deep |
9/2(-13%) | (4) Dig Deep 9/2, Ran to form but tired late when stepped up in trip and comfortably held in a maiden hurdle at Ascot last time. Yard has won two of the last five runnings of this race and he should be winning soon. Unlikely at this best last time at Ascot and stable has won this race twice in three years. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (33/1 +67%)Kastellion |
33/1(+67%) | (6) Kastellion 33/1, Produced a poor effort when finding little to finish fourth, beaten 47l, in a novice hurdle at Leicester last time. Off a short break and needs to improve. Beaten 27l and 47l in first two starts over hurdles; returns from wind surgery. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (8) (50/1 0%)Les's Destiny Star |
50/1(0%) | (8) Les's Destiny Star 50/1, Pulled up in a maiden hurdle at Ascot last time. The trainer is in form and the yard has won two of the last five runnings of this race. A bumper winner here who acts on good to soft and stays 2½m; still has potential over hurdles. 33-1 when pulled up at Ascot in the maiden in which West Hill Verde finished third. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (14/1 +0%)Mulinas |
14/1(+0%) | (9) Mulinas 14/1, Still green but ran to form when a 6l third in a maiden bumper at Ffos Las last time, given a weak ride in the finish. Wears a hood for the first time and returns from a long absence; a point winner who should improve now hurdling over longer trips. Point form reads really well and ran okay in two small-field bumpers; off since April 24. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (33/1 +0%)Danger Nap |
33/1(+0%) | (3) Danger Nap 33/1, Outpaced on a modest debut when comfortably held in a maiden hurdle at Aintree last time. Off a short break and drops in grade; showed promise in bumpers but needs to improve. Bumper promise but comfortably held in last two races, the latest his hurdling debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

100/1(-52%) | (2) Berks And Bucks 100/1, Improved on a modest debut when well beaten in an amateurs' bumper at Warwick last time. Should do better now upped in trip but faces tough task on hurdle debut. Second bumper run was better but he wouldn't be the obvious answer on this hurdling debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (13) (150/1 -127%)Scrumpyjack |
150/1(-127%) | (13) Scrumpyjack 150/1, Outpaced on a poor debut when well beaten in a juvenile bumper at Hereford. Returning from a long layoff and stepping up in trip; needs plenty more now hurdling. Finished tailed off in a Hereford bumper on debut and that was over a year ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (15) (300/1 -50%)Tierbay |
300/1(-50%) | (15) Tierbay 300/1, Failed to build on debut when down the field in an amateurs' bumper at Warwick last time. Likely to need further than 2m and faces a stiff task on hurdling debut. Insufficient promise in two Warwick bumpers to seriously consider for this hurdling debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

WEST HILL VERDE has improved with each run over hurdles, chasing home some useful rivals, and arrives following an encouraging third at Ascot. Despite a drop in trip, Seamus Mullins' gelding has a solid opportunity to shed the maiden tag. Hardly Surprising caught the eye at Bangor in November and has to be of interest, while Kiwi Rush was inconvenienced by stumbling badly at Cheltenham and is worth another chance.

The standard is set by WEST HILL VERDE who had Dig Deep behind when third in a good-looking maiden at Ascot.

1st (3) (5/2 +38%)Western Knight |
5/2(+38%) | (3) Western Knight 5/2, Went clear and held on when improving from debut under a positive ride down in trip to win a beginners' chase at Haydock by a neck last time; wears a tongue-tie for the first time; off a short break; effective from 2½m to 3m and progressing over fences. Won at Haydock on second chase start and open to further improvement; could have a big say. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (17/2 +74%)Kap Ouest |
17/2(+74%) | (5) Kap Ouest 17/2, Ran to form when finishing down the field in a handicap hurdle at Punchestown most recently; returning from a long layoff; effective at 2m and acts on soft and good to soft; could have more to offer now switched to chasing. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (1/1 +43%)One Big Bang |
1/1(+43%) | (2) One Big Bang 1/1, Won a beginners' chase at Southwell by 5l last time, doing it readily though against modest opposition; effective at 3m and acts on any ground; consistent handicapper, unexposed over fences, and a player if getting a stiff test. Strong form on first two chase starts; drops back in trip but still a leading contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (1) (7/2 +13%)Lario |
7/2(+13%) | (1) Lario 7/2, Travelled and jumped well, improving on chase debut when winning a beginners' chase at Haydock by 2l last time; effective from 2m to 2½m, acts on good to soft and soft; generally consistent. Something to find in today's company but 1-1 over fences and may well have more to offer. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

One Big Bang has taken well to chasing, with a runner-up effort at Cheltenham backed up by success in a match at Southwell. However, the drop in trip may not benefit the eight-year-old and WESTERN KNIGHT is preferred. Joe Tizzard's gelding took a decent step forward to win at Haydock and the application of a tongue-tie might further aid his cause. Chasing newcomer Roadlesstravelled and Lario head the remainder.

Having shown strong form on both chase starts, ONE BIG BANG earns the vote ahead of Grade 2 novice hurdle winner Roadlesstravelled.

7/2(+53%) | (3) Minstrel Knight 7/2, Returned to form when allowed an easy lead to win a novice hurdle at Wetherby by 3l last time. Effective at 2m, handles soft ground and had handled good to soft on the Flat; a useful Flat stayer who is in form over hurdles but needs more to defy a penalty. Useful Flat performer who got off the mark over hurdles at the third attempt at Wetherby. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (13) (40/1 +60%)Division Day |
40/1(+60%) | (13) Division Day 40/1, Made mistakes but improved slightly without threatening when fourth, beaten 18l, in a juvenile hurdle at Wetherby last time. Should stay 2m over hurdles; consistent and fair up to 1m6f on the Flat but modest so far over hurdles. 4yo; progressive at ordinary level on the Flat; improvement needed on fourth hurdle start. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (13/8 +64%)Minella Jury |
13/8(+64%) | (2) Minella Jury 13/8, Travelled well, almost fell late and nearly threw it away when winning a maiden hurdle at Uttoxeter by 1/2l last time. Effective over 2m and acts with cut; progressive in bumpers and can build on a winning hurdles debut. Bumper winner who followed up on hurdle/stable debut at Uttoxeter; strong claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) (13/8 +28%)Legal Weapon |
13/8(+28%) | (8) Legal Weapon 13/8, From a yard that won this last year; improved again when second, beaten 2l, behind a useful winner in a maiden hurdle at Newbury last time. Effective 2m–2m3f and acts on good to soft and good ground; has more to offer but might want a longer trip. Bumper winner who was a clear second at Newbury last month and leading claims on that form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (28/1 -75%)Chillingham |
28/1(-75%) | (4) Chillingham 28/1, Showed minor promise on debut and needed the run when comfortably held in a novice hurdle at Wetherby last time. Effective over 12–14f; a useful Flat handicapper with more to come over hurdles. Talented on the Flat; open to improvement on second hurdle start but it's necessary. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (9) (13/2 +46%)Liberty Coach |
13/2(+46%) | (9) Liberty Coach 13/2, Improved slightly when third, beaten 5 1/2l, in a novice hurdle at Wetherby last time. The trainer is in form; enjoys racing prominently. A useful Flat performer effective at 2m over hurdles and could progress again in this sphere. Useful on the Flat and promising third to Minstrel Knight at Wetherby; possible player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (12) (125/1 +38%)Neeps And Tatties |
125/1(+38%) | (12) Neeps And Tatties 125/1, Failed to find much when finishing down the field in a novice hurdle at Huntingdon last time. Effective at 2m and handles soft ground; looks one for handicaps later on. Hasn't shown enough to suggest she'll be posing a serious threat today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (400/1 -100%)Hobnail |
400/1(-100%) | (6) Hobnail 400/1, Found little and made a modest debut when well beaten in a maiden bumper at Huntingdon on his only start. Has everything to prove starting out over hurdles. Wind op since bumper debut but was tailed off and a transformation is needed. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

It was a fine training performance from Sam Allwood to get Irandando Has to make a successful return from over three years off the track at Southwell. The form has been boosted by reopposing fifth Minstrel Knight, who scored at Wetherby, but the vote goes to MINELLA JURY. The grey made a winning debut over hurdles at Uttoxeter and appears capable of further improvement. Legal Weapon's second at Newbury gives him every chance of being in the mix too.

Bumper winner LEGAL WEAPON was a clear second behind an odds-on winner at Newbury last month and is taken to go one better.

1st (2) (8/15 +64%)Guard Duty |
8/15(+64%) | (2) Guard Duty 8/15, Yard took this race last year. Made mistakes and had too much to do when 5l third in a Windsor handicap hurdle last time. Usually held up, effective around 2 1/2m on soft or good ground, and could be worth another try at 3m but threat if getting stiff test. Placed on both starts this season; trainer won this last year and he's a major player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (17/2 -21%)Fingal's Hill |
17/2(-21%) | (4) Fingal's Hill 17/2, Held on to score by a short head in a Hexham handicap off a 4lb lower mark last time. Effective from 2m to 2 1/2m and suited by a sound surface. Progressive last year but may just need this. In the form of his life last March-June but returns from some time off this afternoon. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (12/1 +14%)Ginger Mail |
12/1(+14%) | (7) Ginger Mail 12/1, Every chance but ran a little below form when fourth, beaten 16l, in a Newcastle handicap hurdle last time. Effective from 2m to 2m4f and acts on soft or good to soft. Down to his last winning mark but form this year has been moderate. 10yo; hasn't been at the top of his game this season but not discounted off dangerous mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (5/2 +25%)Glynn Brae |
5/2(+25%) | (5) Glynn Brae 5/2, Won by a neck off a 4lb lower mark at Sandown two runs back. Made too much use of when fifth, beaten 24l, off 133 last time and is 1lb lower here. Effective from 2m to 2 1/2m, acts on any ground, but may be in the handicapper's grip. Disappointing last time but this 6yo is 4-8 over hurdles and remains of interest. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.

Having tasted success in three out of his last four starts, Fingal's Hill has to be respected on his return to action but the one who appeals most is SMOKERINGINTHEDARK. The Nicky Richards-trained six-year-old only found subsequent Lanzarote fourth Fasol too good at Musselburgh on New Year's Day and competes off an unchanged rating. Guard Duty is another to note.

Having been placed in competitive handicaps on his two starts this season, GUARD DUTY (nap) can return to winning ways.

Comfortable wins at Hereford on last two starts and she's 7lb ahead of the handicapper. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (11/1 -10%)Vanilla Dancer |
11/1(-10%) | (2) Vanilla Dancer 11/1, Ran to form when 11l third in a handicap hurdle at Catterick on most recent run; second start since wind operation; effective around 2 1/2m and generally consistent. Bumper winner who is 0-16 over h'dles but has often been placed; each-way claims once more. |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (10/1 -67%)Somebodycomegether |
10/1(-67%) | (4) Somebodycomegether 10/1, Went clear and gamely scored under an aggressive ride when dropped in trip to land a handicap by 4l off a 7lb lower mark at Catterick last time; effective 2m-2m5f, acts on good ground; in fair form in both codes. Got off the mark at Catterick last month, making all by 4l; respected up 7lb. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

22/1(-10%) | (5) Anamanda 22/1, No obvious excuse when comfortably held in a handicap hurdle at Musselburgh last time; effective 2m4f-3m, acts on soft and good ground; still a maiden but generally consistent. Below par this term and 0-15 over hurdles, but well handicapped on last season's best form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (9) (14/1 +0%)The Last Drop |
14/1(+0%) | (9) The Last Drop 14/1, Didn't handle the heavy ground when well beaten in a handicap hurdle at Uttoxeter last time; effective at 2m, acts on soft and good to soft; inconsistent but still early in handicaps. Heavy ground may have been too much last time, but patchy profile and others are preferred. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) (12/1 -50%)Lillistar |
12/1(-50%) | (8) Lillistar 12/1, Fell early in a handicap hurdle at Wetherby last time; effective around 2m4f, acts on soft and good ground; had been in fair form prior to that. Won on the Flat in October and continued in good heart over hurdles; each-way claims. |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (11) (22/1 -10%)Genies Girl |
22/1(-10%) | (11) Genies Girl 22/1, Needed the run and may have found the ground too soft when down the field in a handicap hurdle at Wetherby last time; effective at 2m, acts on good ground; needs to bounce back. Not easy to make a case for but she might be able to take a step forward now up in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (80/1 -21%)Little Soiree |
80/1(-21%) | (3) Little Soiree 80/1, Made mistakes and failed to stay when down the field in a handicap hurdle at Wetherby last time; more effective at 2m, acts on good ground; has won a weak race but inconsistent. She's 8lb lower than when winning at Huntingdon last May but has struggled subsequently. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (12) (200/1 -100%)Rhyme Scheme |
200/1(-100%) | (12) Rhyme Scheme 200/1, Well down the field on latest flat start at Southwell; off a short break; effective around 8f, acts on good to firm and all-weather; currently out of form over hurdles. Tailed on AW in November following an absence and is probably best watched. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

JAMAICAINE has proven a different proposition the last twice, justifying favouritism in comfortable style at Hereford on both occasions, and the seven-year-old is progressing at a rapid rate of knots. This looks another good opportunity and she can continue on her upward curve. Vanilla Dancer produced an improved display when making the frame at Catterick and is one to keep an eye on, along with Newcastle third Joto.

The thriving JAMAICAINE should be very tough to beat in her hat-trick bid. She again had plenty in hand at Hereford last week.

1st (3) (3/1 +50%)The Long Point |
3/1(+50%) | (3) The Long Point 3/1, Made mistakes but showed improvement from debut when comfortably held in a handicap chase at Hereford last time. Returns from a short break; effective at 2 1/2m. Improving over fences though his mark demands more, and latest form has been franked. Should come good in this discipline sooner or later and his yard is having winners. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (6/5 +31%)Kalhandrion |
6/5(+31%) | (2) Kalhandrion 6/5, Won by 3l off an 8lb lower mark at Huntingdon two starts ago and ran to form when third, beaten 3 1/2l off 106 last time; now 2lb higher. Effective at around 2 1/2m, acts on soft and good to soft; in good form since switching to fences. First and third in two 2m4f chases and gives the impression he'll stay this trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (7/4 0%)Jukebox D'eddy |
7/4(0%) | (6) Jukebox D'eddy 7/4, Improved on recent form when landing a handicap by 8 1/2l off an 8lb lower mark at Taunton last time. Effective from 2 1/2m to 3m and handles any ground; progressing now that he has got his head in front. Has improved all of a sudden since fitted with this headgear, winning two Class 5s. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (5) (11/1 +31%)Swift Jet |
11/1(+31%) | (5) Swift Jet 11/1, Fell in a handicap chase at Huntingdon last time. Effective over 3m but remains inconsistent early in his career. Fell mid-race on his switch to fences when a 14-1 chance at Huntingdon. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

JUKEBOX D'EDDY arrives on the back of two victories last month and even an 8lb rise for the latest of those wins may not be enough to stop him from rounding out the hat-trick. Kalhandrion made a successful chasing debut at Huntingdon before a decent Uttoxeter third and is the logical threat. Finn Lough is the pick of the remainder.

Most of these can be given a chance but THE LONG POINT is likely to come good over fences sooner or later. His yard is in form.

Effective from 2m5f to 3m and acts on any ground; progressing but his revised mark demands more. Raised another 6lb for bringing up his hat-trick at Taunton but front two were clear. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (6/4 +79%)Ilitch |
6/4(+79%) | (6) Ilitch 6/4, Had too much to do behind the all-the-way winner at a sharp track when beaten 3l off this mark at Huntingdon last time. Effective from 2m to 2 1/2m and acts on good to soft or good ground; progressive and likely to stay further; big player. Whether he'll stay this far remains to be seen but he should have more races in him. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (7/1 +22%)Be The Difference |
7/1(+22%) | (5) Be The Difference 7/1, Scored by 4l off a 7lb lower mark at Bangor-on-Dee three starts back. Below form when sixth beaten 11l off 109 last time but is 1lb lower here. Effective from 2m4f to 3m1f on soft or good ground; handicapper may have caught up. Dropped back into a Class 4 now but has to prove himself worthy of this mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (9) (10/1 +38%)Milan Park |
10/1(+38%) | (9) Milan Park 10/1, Outpaced but ran to form and looked a strong stayer when fourth beaten 5l in a handicap hurdle at Wetherby last time. Effective at 2m4f and acts on soft or good ground; in fair form and likely to stay further in time. Beaten under 5l on handicap debut (2m3f) and left the impression that further would suit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (11) (6/1 +8%)Greedy Smith |
6/1(+8%) | (11) Greedy Smith 6/1, Improved a little though well beaten in a novice hurdle at Wetherby last time. Should be effective at 2m on soft or good ground and could progress again now entering handicaps. Handicap debutant yet to run beyond 2m; market confidence would heighten interest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (10) (16/1 +43%)Justus |
16/1(+43%) | (10) Justus 16/1, Never jumped or travelled and looked unwilling when fourth beaten 61l in a handicap hurdle at Leicester last time. Effective at 2m on soft or good ground; needs to bounce back. Tailed off in two handicap hurdles last month but Brian Hughes now takes over. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (80/1 -100%)Vee Dancer |
80/1(-100%) | (1) Vee Dancer 80/1, Pulled up in a handicap hurdle at Cheltenham last time after a short break. Effective over 3m but needs to prove his ability remains after a long lay-off. Out of form and difficult to envisage a sudden resurgence at the age of 11. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

PASSING PLEASURE landed the odds with the minimum of fuss over fences at Catterick and that followed a hurdling success at Musselburgh. The six-year-old is clearly progressing well and could defy a 9lb rise in the ratings. Romeo Brown and Mask Of Zorro are obvious threats as they also arrive on the back of multiple victories. The unexposed The Two Harrys should not be discounted, while Milan Park merits each-way consideration.

A good few with chances. Moving up to this trip could prove a significant benefit to THE TWO HARRYS who is making his handicap debut.
Ths is the racecard key.
