Off a short break and effective over 2m on soft and good ground; has more to offer but must reverse form with Highland Crystal. Second to Highland Crystal at Newbury; 5lb better off here but improvement still needed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (250/1 +0%)Sovereign Applause |
250/1(+0%) | (5) Sovereign Applause 250/1, Showed nothing from off the pace after a wind operation when well beaten in a handicap at Southwell last time. Proven up to 12f on the all-weather but still to demonstrate stamina for hurdles and hard to fancy here. Modest maiden on the Flat and tailed off at Warwick last month on sole hurdle start. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.

HIGHLAND CRYSTAL confirmed the promise of her impressive debut success when readily beating Tralee Girl in a similar event to this at Newbury in November. With the prospect of further improvement to come, Gordon Elliott's filly could be hard to beat. Manlaga won her only start in France and has to be respected on her debut for top connections. The aforementioned Tralee Girl and Manganese are the pick of the remainder.

Manlaga is certainly of interest but preference is for HIGHLAND CRYSTAL, who impressed in November when winning her first two races.

Narrowly prevailed in similar event at Cheltenham; should improve further; respected. |

9/1(+44%) | (5) Get On George 9/1, Ran to form dropped in trip and class when winning a novice hurdle here by 2l last time; effective from 2m4f to 2m6f on soft ground and looks capable of further progress when tackling 3m. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) (33/1 -18%)Kent De Thaix |
33/1(-18%) | (7) Kent De Thaix 33/1, Ran to form to get off the mark when winning a maiden hurdle at Carlisle by 16l last time; effective from 2m3f to 2m6f on soft and good to soft ground and is progressing well. Won by wide margin at Carlisle last time but the form is nothing special. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (40/1 -186%)Intosomethinggood |
40/1(-186%) | (6) Intosomethinggood 40/1, Too keen but improved again up in grade, just flattening out late over longer trip at a stiff track when fourth beaten 2 1/2l in the Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle (Grade 2) at Cheltenham; probably best around 2m4f, stays 3m and acts on soft and good ground. Far from sure to replace Cheltenham placings with the less-exposed Carlenrig. |

|PU| (2) (100/1 -52%)Caughtinyourtrance |
100/1(-52%) | (2) Caughtinyourtrance 100/1, Rallied gamely and might have won but for a late error, returning to form after a reappearance when second beaten a neck in a Haydock handicap hurdle last time; effective from 2m6f to 3m on soft and good ground but faces a stiff task at this level. Went close in handicap last time; faces a stiffer assignment upped in class. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.

THEDEVILUNO has proven to be a consistent performer and arrives here on the back of a second in Grade 2 company over 2m4f at Navan. The seven-year-old may improve for this step up in trip and should not be underestimated. Rocking Man beat Carlenrig when they met in a Chepstow maiden hurdle in November, but the runner-up went on to win at this level at Cheltenham. With that in mind, Dan Skelton's charge may be able to reverse the form, despite a 5lb penalty.

There are interesting contenders aplenty in a deep-looking River Don. KICOUR LA and Country Code are particularly appealing.

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (6/1 +29%)Lavida Adiva |
6/1(+29%) | (4) Lavida Adiva 6/1, Produced a career best when winning the Listed Doncaster Mares' Hurdle here by 4l last time. Effective from 2m4f to 3m and acts on soft and good ground; consistent but needs more to win this. Better than ever this term, winning C&D Listed race; well worth place in this higher grade. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (33/1 -18%)Mousey Brown |
33/1(-18%) | (5) Mousey Brown 33/1, Outpaced, ran to form, flattered by proximity off steady pace beaten 9 1/4l in Kerrymount Mares Hurdle (Grade 3) at Leopardstown last time; effective 2m4f-3m, suited by S and G; consistent but needs more to win this. 80-1 when last of five at Leopardstown four weeks ago; faces another stern assignment. |

6th (7) (16/1 -14%)Rockola Vogue |
16/1(-14%) | (7) Rockola Vogue 16/1, Flattened out after a series of errors and was unsuited by the way the race developed when 12l third in a handicap hurdle here last time. Wears cheekpieces for the first time; usually held up; effective from 2m4f to 3m on good to soft and good ground; progressive and unexposed as a stayer. 4-9 over hurdles but made mistakes here last time and now moves out of handicaps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (9/2 +18%)That'll Do Moss |
9/2(+18%) | (8) That'll Do Moss 9/2, Outpaced, rallied, returned to form on ground quicker than ideal 3l third in Unibet Mares' Hurdle (Listed) at Sandown most recent run; effective 2m4f, best form with cut; step up to 3m may suit. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (6) (50/1 -79%)Pottersville |
50/1(-79%) | (6) Pottersville 50/1, Below form when dropped in trip at a sharp track, finishing fourth beaten 28l in a novice hurdle at Windsor last time. Effective from 2m4f to 3m and acts on good to soft and good ground; form of her win looks modest in this context. Lightly raced but was disappointing on latest start and has it all to do on the figures. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.

Jetara has not been at her very best of late, but she took this contest 12 months ago and it is far too soon to be writing her off. That said, preference is for FEET OF A DANCER, who won a Listed event at Punchestown in November and only found the high-class Wodhooh too good at Leopardstown over Christmas. Dream On Baby was third on the latter occasion and could make the frame once again.

bFeet Of A Dancer\p is solid but preferred is the unexposed THAT'LL DO MOSS who has been crying out for today's longer distance.

1st (8) (7/1 +42%)Dartmoor Pirate |
7/1(+42%) | (8) Dartmoor Pirate 7/1, Produced his best chase effort by far when tried in a tongue-tie, landing a handicap by 9l off a 7lb lower mark at Lingfield last time. Effective from 2m to 3m, acts on heavy and good to soft ground, and is improving though now on a higher mark. This is stronger than for his Lingfield win but he had 9l to spare; unexposed over fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (9) (9/1 +25%)New Order |
9/1(+25%) | (9) New Order 9/1, Ran to form but was just outstayed late up the hill when beaten 2l off this mark at Cheltenham last time. Effective from 2m4f to 3m, acts on soft and good ground, and remains progressive and unexposed over staying trips. Front-runner; has run well to be placed on last two starts and today's test could be ideal. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (11/1 -57%)Walking On Air |
11/1(-57%) | (7) Walking On Air 11/1, Mistakes, needed run, made too much use of well beaten in a handicap chase at Newbury latest; cheekpieces first time; effective 2m4f-3m, acts on S, GS; once looked promising and was disputing lead when fell at the last in this 12 months ago. Return to form needed but he had a big shout when falling at final fence in this last year. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (15/2 -7%)Docpickedme |
15/2(-7%) | (5) Docpickedme 15/2, Won this race last year and ran to form again when landing the Pennine Handicap Chase by a length off a 2lb lower mark here last time. Effective between 2m4f and 3m, suited by decent ground, and looks back in form. Won this last year and also scored over C&D last month; respected given his record here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (9/2 -13%)Deep Cave |
9/2(-13%) | (1) Deep Cave 9/2, Needed every yard, well treated up 4lb, ran to form in landing a Silver Cup Handicap Chase by a head off a 2lb lower mark at Ascot last time; stays 3m1f well, acts on S and G; progressive over fences, will get even further. Made it 2-2 for the season with narrow win at Ascot; this progressive 8yo is up just 2lb. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (7/1 +13%)Josh The Boss |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (4) (7/1 +56%)Joyeux Machin |
7/1(+56%) | (4) Joyeux Machin 7/1, Travelled well but probably did not stay when fourth, beaten 5l in a handicap chase here last time. The trainer is in form. Effective at 2m4f and barely gets 3m; yet to win for this yard but generally running consistently. Reverted to fences with respectable fourth over C&D; needs something extra this afternoon. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (5/2 +25%)Grand Geste |
5/2(+25%) | (6) Grand Geste 5/2, Jumped boldly and went clear with ease when improving up in trip to win the Tommy Whittle Handicap Chase by 6 1/2l off a 12lb lower mark at Haydock last time. Effective from 2m4f to 3m2f, handles soft and good ground, and has more to offer as a stayer. Did it easily in the Tommy Whittle at Haydock and could take a 10lb rise in his stride. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.

Having continued his upward trajectory when landing Ascot's Silver Cup, Deep Cave merits the utmost respect in his quest for a four-timer. A 2lb higher mark is unlikely to halt his progress, but unexposed stayer GRAND GESTE may prove to be slightly better treated. The Joel Parkinson & Sue Smith-trained gelding was impressive when landing the Tommy Whittle and a 10lb hike looks surmountable. Last year's winner Docpickedme and Josh The Boss are others of interest.

The 7yo GRAND GESTE (nap) is the latest staying chase success story for the Parkinson/Smith yard, and he can follow up his Haydock win.

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (11/4 +54%)Chasingouttheblues |
11/4(+54%) | (6) Chasingouttheblues 11/4, Ran to form and finished strongly when landing a handicap by a neck off a 3lb lower mark at Wetherby last time. Effective between 2m4f and 3m and acts on any ground. Still looks on a competitive mark. Overcame trouble at Wetherby most recently; may build on that win and improve further. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (4/1 -78%)Noble Park |
4/1(-78%) | (3) Noble Park 4/1, Mistakes, below form off revised mark in much better race when sixth beaten 13l off 125 last time, same mark here; effective 2m4f, acts on any; bounce back needed. Disappointing when bidding to take chase record to 3-3; however, not written off. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (4/1 +33%)As Legends Have It |
4/1(+33%) | (7) As Legends Have It 4/1, Still going okay when falling in a handicap chase at Wetherby last time. Trainer is in form. Effective around 2m4f and acts on soft and good ground. Has a chance if bouncing back from that fall. Faller when favourite last time; consistent otherwise; possible danger with a clear round. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (7/2 +56%)Ki Woo |
7/2(+56%) | (5) Ki Woo 7/2, Had too much to do behind an all-the-way winner but improved for better ground when beaten 3l off a 1lb lower mark here last time. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (16/1 +52%)Harsh |
16/1(+52%) | (1) Harsh 16/1, A bit keen when tried in blinkers and needed the run on stable debut when comfortably held in a handicap chase at Newbury last time. Wears a tongue-tie for the first time and effective at around 2m-2m4f on soft and good. Second run for new yard. Defeat on stable debut took his chase record to 0-7; needs improvement. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

Having found a rejuvenated rival too strong over C&D last month, compensation could be on the cards for KI WOO. That was only the six-year-old's second outing over fences and a 1lb nudge up the ratings may prove lenient. Noble Park's less-than-fluent jumping may have been the reason for his failed hat-trick bid at Kempton and it is too soon to be writing him off. Nicky Henderson's inmate is feared most, ahead of Newton Tornado.

Off bottom weight upped in class, PADDY O'MAHLER may complete a hat-trick with further improvement plausible. Ki Woo is second pick.

6/5(-9%) | (3) Mighty Bandit 6/5, Well treated, improved a little landing a handicap by 2l off a 5lb lower mark at Newbury last time; effective 2m, acts on S and GS; good chance in this. Strong form at Newbury since switched to fences; may well have more to offer; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (10/1 +9%)Grain D'oudairies |
10/1(+9%) | (5) Grain D'oudairies 10/1, Travelled well and ran to best when landing a handicap by 1 1/2l off a 4lb lower mark at Haydock last time. Effective at 2m, just about gets a sharp 2m4f, acts on good to soft and good ground, but revised mark demands more. Record of 2-3 this term but was rather fortuitous at Haydock most recently. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (11/1 0%)Gabriel's Getaway |
11/1(0%) | (6) Gabriel's Getaway 11/1, Made mistakes, was outpaced and the race probably came too soon when fourth, beaten 33l, in a handicap chase at Sandown last time. Blinkers on for the first time. Effective 2m–2m4f and best on a sound surface, but needs to bounce back. Successful in this contest two years ago but performed poorly in latest start. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) (85/40 +58%)Milan Tino |
85/40(+58%) | (8) Milan Tino 85/40, Improved, jumping much better, benefitting from pace collapse landing a handicap by 1 1/4l off a 4lb lower mark at Ludlow last time; effective 2m-2m4f, acts on Hy and G; capable of better. Opened his account in Ludlow contest last time; may well improve further over fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (13/2 +28%)Harper's Brook |
13/2(+28%) | (4) Harper's Brook 13/2, Produced best form in 11 months when beaten 4l off a 1lb higher mark at Wetherby last time. Trainer in form. Effective at 2m, acts on soft and good ground, though inconsistent and tricky to win with. Back in better form last time but continues to carry risk, being a quirky sort. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.

GRAIN D'OUDAIRIES successfully made it two victories from his last three starts over 2m4f at Haydock and is just 4lb higher. Donald McCain's charge is a previous C&D winner and it would be no surprise to see him go in again. Mighty Bandit boasts an appealing profile after scoring on his second chase outing at Newbury and he is likely to have more to offer. Of the remainder, Milan Tino makes the most appeal.

With his Newbury form very strong, MIGHTY BANDIT is taken to defy another rise in the weights. Milan Tino is second pick.

5/2(+25%) | (6) Hobbson's Day 5/2, Made a promising debut when runner-up, beaten 1 1/4l in a bumper at Newton Abbot on only start. Back from a short break and should improve for the experience. Close second of four at Newton Abbot, then left Tom Lacey; that form's not easy to assess. |

15/2(+58%) | (2) Country Pursuits 15/2, 28,000 euros Bande gelding; half-brother to Homme D'un Soir, very useful at 16f. Faces a tough task on debut but the yard's runners command respect and a good jockey is booked. Stable has the odd bumper winner; Brian Hughes is a positive booking; worth a market check. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Point-to-point winner Elderflower Tonic changed hands for 80,000 pounds in November and would be of interest if the market speaks in her favour. However, HOBBSON'S DAY shaped with promise when second on his introduction at Newton Abbot and would have learned a great deal from that experience. If the six-year-old takes a step forward, he could prove hard to beat. Twenties Icon is another to keep an eye on.

The market should be monitored for clues but the verdict goes to Peter Niven's POPALOT who shaped nicely when third at Market Rasen.
Ths is the racecard key.
