|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
15th (4) (100/1 -203%)Good Show |
100/1(-203%) | (4) Good Show 100/1, Modest debut down the field in a maiden hurdle at Thurles most recent; flat winner's recent form is very patchy, has joined top yard and should have a future over hurdles. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
16th (18) (500/1 -150%)Three Leaf Clover |
500/1(-150%) | (18) Three Leaf Clover 500/1, Never threatened down the field in a maiden hurdle at Fairyhouse most recent; off a short-break; yet to show anything. Tailed off in her first two races, can be safely discounted. |

BARLEY LANE was an eye-catcher in second on hurdles debut at Punchestown. He kept the winning favourite honest in the closing stages and that horse followed up at Clonmel. Barley Lane wasn't as good when third on his next start in Naas, but that was a hot maiden. Powerful Paddy is an obvious threat after finishing runner-up in Thurles on stable debut for Willie Mullins. Out Of Aces ran well for a long way before dropping to fourth in an academy hurdle at Cork, while the 120-rated Combs has plenty of experience over flights. Carrig Padraig has switched to Gavin Cromwell after easily winning a ladies' bumper at Fairyhouse in October to add more depth to a good contest.

Placed in two big-field maidens a premier tracks, BARLEY LANE has the credentials to win a maiden of this standard

12/1(+14%) | (8) Pat's Legacy 12/1, Ran to form when fourth beaten 18l in a maiden hurdle at Punchestown latest; effective 2m-2m4f, acts on soft to heavy and yielding; should improve again now handicapping. Second to Needs Must in a maiden on penultimate start, may find that rival too strong. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (16) (5/1 +75%)Accustomed |
5/1(+75%) | (16) Accustomed 5/1, Promising Flat debut 4l third in the Challenge Race at Punchestown most recent run; cheekpieces first time; effective 2 1/2m, acts on yielding, good; needs to back up recent maiden improvement, may do better at 3m. Pleasing run at Leopardstown at Christmas when not beaten far in sixth in a 23-runner race. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (17) (9/1 +36%)Fairlander |
9/1(+36%) | (17) Fairlander 9/1, Improved up in trip when fourth beaten 12l in a maiden hurdle at Naas latest; off a short-break; effective 2-2 1/2m, acts on soft; may want this bit further. Ran on to good effect at Naas in December, potentially interesting in his first handicap. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (7/1 +0%)Good Option |
7/1(+0%) | (7) Good Option 7/1, Improved up in trip and down in grade when second beaten 2l in a maiden hurdle at Punchestown latest; effective 2 1/2m, acts with cut; progressing for top yard as trip increases. Second in a maiden at Fairyhouse, trainer's Ready For Road is arguably more appealing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (12/1 -60%)Campbell Black |
12/1(-60%) | (5) Campbell Black 12/1, Well treated on maiden form, improved suited by stiff test down in trip on handicap debut landing a handicap by a neck off a 6lb lower mark at Thurles last time; usually held up; effective 2m-2m4f with cut ; may have bit more to offer in handicaps but mark demands it. Won by a neck for this rider at Thurles, longer trip may help him to sustain improvement. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (12) (7/1 -8%)Youlita |
7/1(-8%) | (12) Youlita 7/1, Tired late on ground softer than ideal, ran well to a point 25l third in a novice hurdle here most recent run; off a short-break; effective 2-2 1/4m, acts on good; progressing over hurdles, more to come when stepped back up in trip. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (10) (14/1 -40%)Irish Champ |
14/1(-40%) | (10) Irish Champ 14/1, Outpaced, bit below form but did see out the trip well when second beaten 17l in a maiden hurdle at Ayr latest; effective 2 1/2m; point winner should be winning soon over hurdles with opening mark looking lenient. Leopardstown fourth represents stronger form than two placed efforts at Ayr, fair chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (3) (17/2 +15%)Chichester Park |
17/2(+15%) | (3) Chichester Park 17/2, Outpaced, ran to form but looked in need of stiffer test 8l third in an auction hurdle at Leopardstown most recent run; effective 2m, acts on soft, good; may do better over this bit further. Satisfactory run in a novice event last time, this longer trip could help his cause. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (15) (28/1 -56%)Cola Blaze |
28/1(-56%) | (15) Cola Blaze 28/1, Improved but outclassed comfortably held in Solerina Mares Novice Hurdle (Grade 3) at Fairyhouse last time; effective 2m, acts on soft; may need further, highly tried, wants drop in grade. Bumper winner in 2023; has been tried at a high level, this is much more realistic. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (1) (9/1 +36%)Long Branch |
9/1(+36%) | (1) Long Branch 9/1, Improved again benefitting from pace collapse 5 1/4l third in a novice hurdle at Thurles most recent run; off a short-break; effective around 2m-2m7f, acts on soft, good; progressive, could be well treated back in a handicap. Thurles novice winner is now 15lb higher than when third on his handicap debut, tough task. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (13) (18/1 +45%)High Notions |
18/1(+45%) | (13) High Notions 18/1, Pulled up in a handicap hurdle at Navan latest; off a short-break; effective 2m4f; form of maiden win had knocks, bit to prove in handicaps. Maiden hurdle winner, questions to answer after being pulled up in her first handicap. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (11) (14/1 +22%)Mavetherave |
14/1(+22%) | (11) Mavetherave 14/1, May have found ground too soft comfortably held in a novice hurdle here last time; off a short-break; acts on good, yielding to soft, effective 2m6f, looks strong stayer; consistent in maidens. Finished 6l behind Youlita when fifth here in January, may struggle to reverse that form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (19) (66/1 -100%)Mr Devlin |
66/1(-100%) | (19) Mr Devlin 66/1, Below form on softer ground down the field in a handicap hurdle at Leopardstown most recent; seems effective at 2m on yielding; needs more. Mid-division behind Campbell Black at Thurles, jumping was untidy at Leopardstown. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
13th (2) (14/1 -40%)Welluknow |
14/1(-40%) | (2) Welluknow 14/1, Improved up in trip when winning a novice hurdle at Fairyhouse by 4l last time; off a short-break; effective 2-2 1/2m, acts on yielding and heavy; could be well treated back in a handicap. Bounced back from a disappointing run to win readily at Fairyhouse, more progress feasible. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
14th (6) (80/1 -300%)Jerrari |
80/1(-300%) | (6) Jerrari 80/1, Pulled up in a handicap hurdle at Navan latest where unsuited by heavy ground; should come on for that; effective 2m on good; handicapper may have caught up. Won twice on good ground last summer, testing conditions were against him on a recent run. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
15th (18) (33/1 +34%)Hey Babbs |
33/1(+34%) | (18) Hey Babbs 33/1, Yard has won 2 of last 5 runnings of race; pulled up in a handicap chase at Thurles latest; effective at around 2 1/2m, acts on good; likely capable of better on spring ground. Seems to have lost her way over hurdles since a Wexford win last July, hard to fancy. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
16th (4) (10/1 -122%)Needs Must |
10/1(-122%) | (4) Needs Must 10/1, Yard won this last year; fell in a handicap hurdle at Punchestown latest when looked a huge threat; effective 2m-2m3f, acts on heavy, good; more to come now handicapping. Poised to challenge when falling two out at Punchestown, one for the shortlist. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (25/1 -79%)Ready For Road |
25/1(-79%) | (9) Ready For Road 25/1, Back to form on handicap debut comfortably held in a handicap hurdle at Fairyhouse last time; effective 2m-2m4f; debut form franked, can do better handicapping when stepped up in trip. Kept on for fifth over 2m at Fairyhouse, definite chance over this longer distance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (14) (33/1 -230%)Coco Masterpiece |
33/1(-230%) | (14) Coco Masterpiece 33/1, Hampered when beaten down the field in a maiden hurdle at Naas most recent; effective 2m, acts with cut; point and bumper winner has had plenty of issues, inconsistent in short career over hurdles. Point winner for this team, useful bumper form for Willie Mullins, not the force he was. |

NEEDS MUST could pick up compensation after falling two out when still in with a chance at Punchestown. His maiden hurdle victory in Fairyhouse showed what he is capable of. Long Branch faced a stiff task in a novice hurdle at Thurles, but kept on well for third. On his previous start, he took a rated novice hurdle in Thurles and Sean Cleary-Farrell's 7lb claim has him on a mark he should be a factor off. Campbell Black landed a gamble by a neck in a ladies' handicap hurdle at Thurles last month and can go well off 6lb higher. Welluknow was victorious in two of his last three starts and is a trip-versatile sort who can get into the mix.

This longer trip may help CHICHESTER PARK, a point-to-point winner who has run creditably over 2m in his four attempts over hurdles.

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (22/1 -57%)Monroes Hollow |

100/1(-203%) | (12) Annilogs Flame 100/1, Outclassed down the field in a maiden hurdle at Fairyhouse most recent; pointer likely to need this bit further and more time under rules. Handicap debutante, glimmer of ability in one maiden, watch unless market speaks. |

ASWELLASABENTLEY travelled well before finishing third over a shorter trip at this track in January. He's bred to appreciate further as a half-brother to Spinningayarn, who finished fifth in the Albert Bartlett at the Cheltenham Festival last week. Jaynemax ran a cracker in second in a higher grade at Leopardstown this month, so his turn may not be far away. Sunwalk showed marked improvement to take the runner-up berth here over Christmas which gives him claims, while first-reserve Somersby Roost would merit a second glance, for an in-form stable, if getting a run.

A chance is taken on JUMBLE LIGHT who has been shaping like this longer trip will suit in recent starts

8/1(+33%) | (20) Chemdawg 8/1, Pulled up in a handicap hurdle at Clonmel latest; effective 2m-3m, acts on heavy, good; in good form until latest. Pulled up latest but had previously been shaping well, yard back in form, could go well. |

16/1(+68%) | (17) Shanroe Nancy 16/1, Disappointing hurdles return well beaten in a handicap hurdle at Fairyhouse latest; cheekpieces first time; effective 2m, acts on good; yet to prove up to this mark. No impact yet in handicaps, beaten 38l latest, new cheekpieces need to transform. |

KANOG BAY disappointed at Thurles but, prior to that, won smartly at Fairyhouse and could bounce back to form. Rebel Cowgirl enjoyed herself off the front at Punchestown and similar tactics could see her involved once again. Pleasureofpressure has been placed on his last two starts and is on a mark he can be effective off. Others pitching for prize money include Gordon Elliott's Button Rock and Limerick-third Dolly Watkins.

Oliver McKiernan's horses are back in form and CHEMDAWG is taken to bounce back from a poor effort at Clonmel last time

8/13(+32%) | (3) Gerri Colombe 8/13, Winner of five G1s; yard won this last year; back to form when second to Grand National favourite beaten 5 1/2l in Bobbyjo Chase (Grade 3) at Fairyhouse latest; effective 3m, suited by cut; generally consistent at top level before lay off, running into form for tilt at National and holds fitness edge on main rival. Top-class performer in his prime, seems to be coming back to something like a peak of form. |

(2) (13/8 -18%)Nick Rockett |
13/8(-18%) | (2) Nick Rockett 13/8, Improved up in trip, handled the quicker ground when winning Grand National at Aintree by 2 1/2l last time; returning from long layoff; effective up to 4m2f, acts on heavy, good to soft; hugely progressive handicapper; big player if fit. Last season's Grand National winner, tough enough task against the race-fit Gerri Colombe. |

(1) (12/1 +76%)Roi Mage |
12/1(+76%) | (1) Roi Mage 12/1, Pulled up in Becher Handicap Chase at Aintree latest; returning from a break; effective 3m2f+, suited by cut; probably bit flattered by French Listed form; good record in this race including win in 2023 but this looks tougher renewal. Veteran won this in 2022, second in the two following years, asking a lot at the age of 14. |

(5) (66/1 +56%)The Gradual Slope |
66/1(+56%) | (5) The Gradual Slope 66/1, Hampered and outpaced early down the field in a handicap chase at Leopardstown most recent; effective 3m+; has tumbled in weights but unreliable. Ordinary form since 2024 Puchestown festival success, out of his depth in this company. |

GERRI COLOMBE showed some of his back class when runner-up in the Bobbyjo at Fairyhouse last month. He returns to a venue where he is two from three and he ought to give Jack Kennedy a good spin. Nick Rockett needs this run to qualify for the Grand National at Aintree which he memorably landed last year. It is reasonable to assume that he will come on for the run as he hasn't been out since that famous Aintree success. Perceval Legallois looks clear next best in this small field.

It will be no disgrace if Grand National hero Nick Rockett\ fails to concede 7lb to \bGerri Colombe who has shown signs of a revival

(4) (4/1 +0%)Ayiko |
4/1(+0%) | (4) Ayiko 4/1, Hampered late when closing, ran to form when fourth beaten 5l in a handicap chase at Carlisle latest; effective 2 1/2-3m, acts with cut; consistent over hurdles and fences. Form of Haydock second franked, beaten over 3m latest, may rebound down in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(8) (25/1 -25%)Herja |
25/1(-25%) | (8) Herja 25/1, Needed run on chase debut when fourth beaten 32l in a beginners chase chase at Thurles latest; effective 2-2 1/2m on good; unexposed over fences, should come on for latest. Sedgefield maiden hurdle winner, well beaten on chase debut latest, much more needed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(7) (25/1 +24%)Desert Cave |
25/1(+24%) | (7) Desert Cave 25/1, Unsuited by drop in trip on rules return comfortably held in a beginners chase chase at Thurles last time; effective 3m; one for handicaps over further in chases. Point winner, 1-12 over hurdles and rated 112, tailed off on stable bow latest, needs more. |

Stuart Crawford's AYIKO is unexposed over fences and could have a bit more upside than others. His second place in a beginners' chase at Haydock in December was a creditable effort and that form gives him a big chance. Gordon Elliott's Slanagaibhgoleir won a beginners' chase over a similar trip at this venue over Christmas. The form of his third on handicap debut at Gowran Park last month received a boost when the winner followed up in a handicap hurdle at Clonmel. Elliott also saddles Lucky Lyreen, who has Jack Kennedy's assistance and is a double winner at Down Royal.

Preference is for AYIKO. The form of his Haydock second has been boosted and he should be suited by the drop back in trip

14/1(-115%) | (4) Focus Point 14/1, Improved when winning a point at Ballingarry by 3 1/2l last time; hood first time; absent for very lengthy period; effective at around 3m, suited by decent ground; in poor form when last seen under rules. Unplaced behind Ballyphilip here in 2024, later gained a seventh points win, absent since. |

CAUSE FOR COMMENT's 12-length success in a Punchestown point-to-point last month gives him bright prospects of following up. That was his first run since runner-up spots in hunters chases at Downpatrick and Tipperary last year. Dora D'or won nicely in a Carrigarostig point-to-point in January and receives a stone from the selection with Lee Shanahan's claim factored in. Focus Point has been off for a long time, but is worth a market check given his excellent record in point-to-points.

Twice a beaten favourite last season CAUSE FOR COMMENT can be fancied to make amends with his confidence boosted by maiden point win

VIVA LAA VIDA has a smart pedigree and the assistance of a vastly experienced 7lb claimer for her debut. The selection is the second foal out of a Grade 2 winner and while she lacks experience, it is encouraging she represents a leading yard. Surfin Usa has been absent since finishing a 20-length second at Sligo in August 2024 and looks vulnerable on reappearance. Belladaball was supported on debut last December and can progress.

BELLADABALL ran a pleasing race on debut at Fairyhouse and with improvement likely to be forthcoming, she gets the nod
Ths is the racecard key.

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.
There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.
The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.
Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.
Overall, horse racing is an integral part of British culture and a major contributor to the country's economy. It is a thrilling and exciting sport that continues to attract a loyal following and generate significant interest from spectators and bettors around the world.
