1st (7) (6/4 +33%)Hello Sweety |
6/4(+33%) | (7) Hello Sweety 6/4, Made mistakes but quickened clear and improved when beaten 1 1/2l off a 4lb lower mark at Southwell last time. Effective at 2m on good ground and arrives in good form. Made a bold bid at Southwell last time, suggesting there's possibly a modest race in her. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (7/2 +30%)Yanka Blue |
7/2(+30%) | (3) Yanka Blue 7/2, Ran to form when second, beaten 3 1/2l, in a maiden hurdle at Sedgefield last time. Effective up to 2m4f and the type to progress in handicaps. Some encouraging form for Alison Thorpe, most recently second in Sedgefield maiden hurdle. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (16/1 +20%)Crackerjack Queen |
16/1(+20%) | (5) Crackerjack Queen 16/1, From a yard that won this last year. Disappointing on handicap debut when comfortably held at Hereford last time; cheekpieces on for the first time and likely to need further than 2m. Weak claims on form; chance depends on how well she responds to added cheekpieces. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (14/1 -27%)Alvesta |
14/1(-27%) | (1) Alvesta 14/1, Finished down the field in a handicap at Chelmsford on her latest flat run; trainer in good form. Effective over 10-12f but remains a maiden looking exposed in both codes. Maiden; only fourth of five finishers over C&D on most recent attempt under this code. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (50/1 -150%)Noble Miss |
50/1(-150%) | (6) Noble Miss 50/1, Pulled up in a handicap hurdle here last time and returns from a short break. A 2m bumper winner on good ground who looks to need more hurdling experience and must settle better. Bumper winner; form has deteriorated since switched to hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (5/2 +44%)Our Nel |
5/2(+44%) | (4) Our Nel 5/2, Pulled up in a handicap hurdle at Southwell last time and returns from a lengthy absence. Effective from 2m to 2 1/2m, acts on soft and good ground; form tailed off before her layoff. Returns from 19-month absence and makes debut for James Owen; heed the market signals. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (11/1 -69%)Keep It Cool |
11/1(-69%) | (2) Keep It Cool 11/1, Had every chance but was comfortably held in a handicap hurdle at Leicester last time. Effective at 2m4f on yielding or good ground; needs to bounce back for her new yard. Ex-Irish maiden who may improve for this drop back in trip; third start for new stable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) (18/1 -125%)Casual Encounter |
18/1(-125%) | (8) Casual Encounter 18/1, Improved slightly when fourth, beaten 15l, in a maiden hurdle at Ludlow last time. Returns from a short break, effective at 2m on good to firm ground; progressing but needs more in handicaps. May show progress now handicapping off bottom weight in the retained headgear. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Things have started to click into place for HELLO SWEETY, who came down when in contention here before filling the runner-up spot at Southwell last time. A 4lb rise looks harsh but while a few of these have something to prove, this represents a solid opportunity. Alvesta has bits and pieces of form that would give her a chance, and handicap hurdle debutant Casual Encounter warrants a market check.

With a good pace on the cards, this may set up perfectly for KEEP IT COOL on her drop back in distance. Our Nel is second choice.

1st (5) (6/4 +79%)Codetalker |
6/4(+79%) | (5) Codetalker 6/4, Pulled far too hard when stepped up in trip and failed to get home when well held in a Warwick handicap hurdle last time. Had been in good form prior and is effective over 2m. His debut form has worked out well, so worth another chance in handicaps. Promise in first two hurdle starts, but last of six on handicap debut; enough to prove. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (6/1 +33%)Sleeping Late |
6/1(+33%) | (1) Sleeping Late 6/1, Made mistakes and was disappointing on handicap debut when well beaten in a Huntingdon hurdle last time. Had been in good form beforehand and is effective over 2m on good ground. Generally consistent in a short career and can improve if settling. Early promise over hurdles, but twice well held since returning; has something to prove. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (6/1 -20%)Miss Maxfort |
6/1(-20%) | (6) Miss Maxfort 6/1, Enjoyed the run of the race and improved when finishing 8l third in a Chepstow handicap hurdle last time. Effective over 2m and handles soft and good ground. Possibly flattered by that latest effort but handicapper has relented further so very interesting. Third on stable debut at Chepstow last month; interesting to see if she can build on it. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (9/1 -13%)Merely A Detail |
9/1(-13%) | (3) Merely A Detail 9/1, Keen early and outpaced but ran to form when third, beaten 14l, in a novice hurdle at Exeter last time. Effective over 2m on good ground. The bumper winner's hurdle debut has been franked, and she could improve in handicaps. Bumper winner and placed in all three starts over hurdles; a player on handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (10/3 -178%)Zenato |
10/3(-178%) | (2) Zenato 10/3, Stable won this last year. Raced a bit freely but improved under a positive ride to win readily, landing a Sedgefield handicap by 8 1/2l off a 7lb lower mark last time. Effective over 2m on good ground and looks progressive. Up 7lb in hat-trick bid; drying ground would help, but still a major player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (8/1 -45%)Snapius |
8/1(-45%) | (4) Snapius 8/1, Never threatened when comfortably held in a Leicester handicap hurdle last time. Effective over 2m and suited by some cut in the ground. Generally consistent performer. Dual Flat/hurdles winner; fairly treated but needs to put latest modest effort behind him. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

It is difficult to oppose ZENATO, who recorded a narrow success at Stratford before bolting up at Sedgefield last month. A subsequent 7lb rise will ask sterner questions of him, but his proven ability to handle this unique course could give him the edge. Merely A Detail has been consistent since switching to hurdles and is expected to make her presence felt, along with Snapius.

Even though drying ground would probably help, ZENATO is taken to complete the hat-trick off a 7lb higher mark.

1st (5) (7/2 +30%)Gazette Bourgeoise |
7/2(+30%) | (5) Gazette Bourgeoise 7/2, Made mistakes and ran below form when beaten 7l in a handicap chase at Windsor last time. Effective around 3m and acts on heavy or good ground. Still fairly treated, goes well at this track but can be unreliable. Just 1lb higher than when winning easily over C&D on New Year's Day; may be worth chancing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (14/1 +36%)Jacks Touch |
14/1(+36%) | (4) Jacks Touch 14/1, Made a poor chase return and needed the run when comfortably held in a handicap chase at Huntingdon last time. Effective around 2 1/2m and acts on soft or good to soft ground. Needs to prove her ability remains after a long layoff. Won this in 2023, but showed nothing on her return from pointing last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (1) (9/4 +18%)Tankardstown Diva |
9/4(+18%) | (1) Tankardstown Diva 9/4, Scored by a length off an 8lb lower mark at Ludlow on her penultimate start. The trainer is in form, and she is effective from 2 1/2m to 3m on decent ground. Progressive for her new yard, though her mark continues to rise. In good form, but up 3lb and not sure the drop in trip on a sharp track is ideal. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (2) (9/4 +36%)I Am The Moon |
9/4(+36%) | (2) I Am The Moon 9/4, Had every chance and ran to form when possibly outstayed late over a longer trip, finishing an 8 1/2l third in a handicap hurdle at Ffos Las last time. Cheekpieces go on for the first time; more to come now chasing; every chance. Makes chase debut after eight months off; market should be revealing; cheekpieces on. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (7/2 -40%)Settle Down Jill |
7/2(-40%) | (3) Settle Down Jill 7/2, Ran to form when beaten 2l off this mark at Leicester last time. Probably needs 2 1/2m and acts on good ground. A point winner who has been highly tried under rules and remains consistent. Stepping back up in trip should suit, but she may not get her own way in front. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Tankardstown Diva made a pleasing return to fences at Huntingdon last month and must be respected, as must Settle Down Jill, although she didn't appear to have any obvious excuses when a beaten favourite at Leicester. A chance is taken on I AM THE MOON. With cheekpieces applied ahead of her seasonal reappearance/chasing debut, she could improve for her in-form yard.

It may be worth chancing GAZETTE BOURGEOISE who is just 1lb higher than when winning over C&D on New Year's Day.

1st (2) (2/1 -60%)Kilbakanto |
2/1(-60%) | (2) Kilbakanto 2/1, Improved from debut but didn't find much up in trip when fourth, beaten 12l, in a maiden hurdle at Haydock last time. Wears a hood for the first time; effective at 2 1/2m and likely to improve for this top yard, with the drop in trip a plus. Winning pointer; well held both hurdle races but latest is best hurdles form in this field. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (7/2 +46%)Jonquilla |
7/2(+46%) | (6) Jonquilla 7/2, Rallied gamely on a promising debut when second, beaten 1 1/2l, in a novice hurdle at Catterick last time. Effective at 2 1/2m, acts on good ground, and should improve slightly. Second of five on hurdle debut at Catterick last month; shortlisted. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (11/4 +21%)Tony Joe |
11/4(+21%) | (5) Tony Joe 11/4, Ran to form when fourth, beaten 13l, in a bumper at Catterick last time having won a bumper winner previously. The trainer is in form and he could figure here. Closely related to Ahoy Senor; showed ability in bumpers; respected on hurdle debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (7/2 +84%)Lawsky |
7/2(+84%) | (4) Lawsky 7/2, Failed to build on debut, finishing down the field in a maiden bumper at Huntingdon most recently. Absent for a very lengthy period and faces a tough task. Well beaten in two bumpers for Paul Webber; worth a market check on stable/hurdle debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (9/1 -157%)High Point |
9/1(-157%) | (1) High Point 9/1, Forced wide from a poor draw and did plenty early when comfortably held in a handicap at Haydock last time. Enjoys making the running and returns from a short break; multiple flat winner can make presence felt on hurdle debut. Four-time Flat winner at up to 1m6f; this trip should be within range on hurdles debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (80/1 -142%)Kings Order |
80/1(-142%) | (3) Kings Order 80/1, Fell in a novice hurdle at Taunton last time. Proven effective at 3m in points and handles good ground; one for further down the line. Showed some promise in a couple of Irish points but has shown little under rules. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

KILBAKANTO appeared stretched by the extended 3m at Haydock earlier this month and he shaped better than his fourth-placed effort suggests. Reverting to 2m4f should see the son of Malinas in a better light and this looks a suitable opportunity for him to open his account under Rules. Although Tony Joe was unable to complete a double in a Catterick bumper last month, he rates as the biggest danger on his hurdles bow, ahead of Jonquilla.

The vote goes to TONY JOE who has shown plenty of ability in bumpers and should be suited by this stiffer test on hurdle debut.

1st (3) (6/1 -71%)No But I Will |
6/1(-71%) | (3) No But I Will 6/1, May have found the ground a bit quick when 29l third in a handicap chase at Chepstow last time. Off a short break; effective at 2m on good and soft ground, and suited by front-running tactics. Handy sort; mainly consistent this year; possibilities on debut for new trainer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (10/3 +26%)Shantou Lucky |
10/3(+26%) | (2) Shantou Lucky 10/3, Scored by 4l off a 6lb lower mark at Plumpton three starts ago; poor run when fourth beaten 18l off 119 last time. Effective from 2m4f to 3m1f and suited by decent ground, but a bounce back is needed and the mark looks stiff enough. Won five times in the autumn, but the handicapper may have caught up with him. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (2/1 -7%)Bolsover Bill |
2/1(-7%) | (5) Bolsover Bill 2/1, Needed the run when comfortably held in a handicap hurdle at Leicester last time, a prep for chasing. Effective from 2m4f to 3m and acts on heavy and good to soft ground; return to chasing a plus, needs to prove ability remains after lay off but fair mark if doing so. Back off last winning mark and should be all the better for recent return; interesting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (3/1 0%)Frere D'armes |
3/1(0%) | (1) Frere D'armes 3/1, Won this race last year; outpaced but returned to form, though probably flattered, when fourth beaten 16l in the Elite Hurdle (Grade 2) at Wincanton last time. Trainer in form but looks on a stiff mark based on hunter chase form. 1lb lower than when making all in this race last year; has to be taken seriously. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (15/2 +6%)Moon Hunter |
15/2(+6%) | (4) Moon Hunter 15/2, Needed the run when well beaten in a handicap chase at Lingfield last time. Effective from 2½m to 3m and handles good to soft and good ground. Inconsistent performer who has had issues. Has become disappointing and also looks tricky; hard to warm to on second start for yard. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

BOLSOVER BILL was entitled to need his belated reappearance when finishing sixth over timber at Leicester last month and this six-time chase winner may prove far more competitive reverting to the larger obstacles. Market support for Harry Derham's charge could be significant and he gets a tentative vote in a trappy contest. Frere d'Armes is now 1lb lower than he was when winning over C&D last December and must enter calculations along with Shantou Lucky.

Although an easy lead isn't assured, FRERE D'ARMES has to be of interest from a mark 1lb lower than when winning this race last year.

1st (1) (6/1 -20%)Enjoy D'allen |
6/1(-20%) | (1) Enjoy D'allen 6/1, Won by 10l off a 7lb lower mark here three starts ago. Outpaced but ran to form when second, beaten 2 1/4l off 100 last time. Trainer in form. Effective from 2m4f to 3m and handles any ground; well treated on old Irish form and running well of late; claims obvious. Running fairly well but beaten off a lower hurdle mark last week; could be vulnerable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (9/1 -13%)Fern Hill |
9/1(-13%) | (2) Fern Hill 9/1, Scored by 3 1/4l off a 3lb lower mark at Huntingdon on his penultimate start. Below form off a revised mark on easier ground when fifth, beaten 30l off 110 last time. Effective from 2m4f to 3m but not certain to stay further; stamina a concern again. Still on a competitive mark but well beaten at Wetherby when back on soft ground. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (9/2 +31%)Shadows In The Sky |
9/2(+31%) | (3) Shadows In The Sky 9/2, Returned to form down in grade when second, beaten 10l in a handicap chase here last time. Likes to make the running and is effective from 2 1/2m to 3m. Generally consistent but looks on a stiff mark. Has questions to answer beyond 3m and may get outstayed when it matters. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (4/1 +27%)To Be Sure |
4/1(+27%) | (5) To Be Sure 4/1, Made mistakes but ran to form when 6l third in a handicap chase at Chepstow on his latest outing. Returns from a short break. Effective over 3m and generally consistent. Kept finding for pressure to finish third behind Safe Destination at Chepstow last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (11/4 +21%)Safe Destination |
11/4(+21%) | (4) Safe Destination 11/4, Won by 4l off a 4lb lower mark at Chepstow three starts ago. Hampered and outpaced but ran to form when sixth, beaten 13l off 110 last time. Best at around 3m on a sound surface and a consistent performer. Good strike-rate over fences and in form until an excusable defeat at Ascot a month ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (13/2 -30%)He Is A Cracker |
13/2(-30%) | (6) He Is A Cracker 13/2, Won by 6 1/2l off a 4lb lower mark at Fontwell on his penultimate run. Below form off a revised mark when third, beaten 66l off 85 last time. Suited by 3m+ and acts on good or good to soft ground; better over fences where previously progressive. Fair shout off this mark but slight concern that he may have a preference for drier ground. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Shadows In The Sky returned to form with a respectable second over 2m5f here in October and he looks worth a go over a further mile, but reopposing winner Enjoy D'allen still looks the better treated of the pair. That said, TO BE SURE shaped encouragingly when finishing third behind Safe Destination at Chepstow last time and this step up in trip could be the making of him. Nigel & Willy Twiston-Davies' inmate cannot be dismissed, although further rain could hamper his bid.

This can go to SAFE DESTINATION (nap) who had excuses last time at Ascot and he's been running well for a while.

1st (1) (5/2 -11%)Girl Of Gold |
5/2(-11%) | (1) Girl Of Gold 5/2, The yard has won the last two runnings of this race. Ran to form when 11l third in a handicap hurdle at Leicester on her latest start. Effective at 2m4f/2m5f, acts on soft and good ground, and should have more to offer in handicaps. Solid effort on penultimates start; may be suited by this new trip (stays 2m1f on Flat). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (66/1 -32%)Annie Nail |
66/1(-32%) | (6) Annie Nail 66/1, May have found the ground too soft when well beaten in a handicap hurdle at Leicester last time. Effective at 2m4f–2m6f, acts on good to soft and good ground, but hard to fancy on recent evidence. Best form over fences; has achieved little since returned to hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (3/1 +33%)Lady Harriett |
3/1(+33%) | (5) Lady Harriett 3/1, Below form when 33l third in a handicap hurdle at Ffos Las last time. Blinkers are applied for the first time. Effective between 2½m and 3m but has been inconsistent. Gained sole win in first-time cheekpieces; interesting off same mark in new headgear. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (15/8 +32%)Isabel De Clare |
15/8(+32%) | (3) Isabel De Clare 15/8, Ran to form when 11l third in a handicap hurdle at Ludlow last time. Effective at around 2½m and handles soft and good ground. Running into form at a modest level. In-form maiden, having proved resurgent with placed efforts at Ludlow the last twice. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (10/1 +17%)Doublethetrouble |
10/1(+17%) | (4) Doublethetrouble 10/1, Pulled up in a handicap hurdle at Market Rasen on his latest outing. The trainer is in form. Effective at 2m, a Flat winner but yet to show similar form over hurdles. Well treated on Flat form but achieved nothing on belated return to this code last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (13/2 +7%)Pooroldmackley |
13/2(+7%) | (2) Pooroldmackley 13/2, Ran to form when 24l third in a handicap chase at Newton Abbot last time. Returns from a short break and looks fairly treated. Progressing as the trip increases, with more to come at 3m. Absent for three months; scored at Worcester on last hurdles attempt; could go well. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Girl Of Gold wasn't disgraced when finishing third on her handicap hurdle bow at Leicester last time out and she's a potential improver stepping up in distance. Nonetheless, ISABEL DE CLARE's latest exploits at Ludlow look stronger and a reproduction of her recent placed efforts may prove sufficient. Pooroldmackley should appreciate a return to hurdles and is also worth a second look along with Lady Harriett.

With the new trip a likely plus, topweight GIRL OF GOLD is taken to open her account. Lady Harriett is second pick.
Ths is the racecard key.

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.
There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.
The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.
Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.
Overall, horse racing is an integral part of British culture and a major contributor to the country's economy. It is a thrilling and exciting sport that continues to attract a loyal following and generate significant interest from spectators and bettors around the world.
