The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

It could pay to take a chance on JACK BLACK, despite his return from a lengthy absence. He failed to complete on fast going last time, but it was testing ground when he finished a respectable third at Newbury on his first start over hurdles and Dan Skelton's charge gets the nod on that form. Dixie Mafia finished a promising fourth at Warwick back in March and could feature, while Kalkbrenner is worth noting on hurdles debut.

Clearly not himself on his only outing last season, JACK BLACK can still build upon his promising hurdle debut in early 2024.

20/1(-25%) | (7) Romany King 20/1, Very promising debut when a 3/4l winner in a 3m maiden at Ballindenisk. Wears a hood for the first time. Returning from a long layoff; the form of his point win has been franked, and he acts with cut. 2m4f looks a suitable starting point under rules. Sold for £45,000 after Irish point win last December; hood is now added on rules debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

A winner between the flags, STARZAND looked to possess plenty of ability when landing a bumper here on Rules debut. The son of Harzand could launch a strong challenge if taking to hurdling and is marginally preferred to Big Cadillac. The latter has undergone a wind operation since winning a bumper at Chepstow at the start of the year, while Gee Force Flyer is a brother to a hurdles winner and debuts for Olly Murphy's in-form yard.

An interesting race in which the vote goes to point/bumper winner STARZAND, who could have a bright future at this new discipline.

16/1(-60%) | (6) Reinado 16/1, Briefly threatened but did not find much on stable debut when well held in a 2m4f handicap hurdle at Worcester last time; potentially on a good mark judged on Irish form. Ran well on handicap debut in Ireland in July; safely held for new stable last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (11) (25/1 -14%)Ker D'oudairies |
25/1(-14%) | (11) Ker D'oudairies 25/1, Pulled up in a maiden hurdle at Worcester last time; off a short break and may prefer further than 2m; yet to show any worthwhile form. Did not get competitive in three 2m novice/maiden hurdles; may fare better in handicaps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (4) (33/1 +0%)Sophie Power |
33/1(+0%) | (4) Sophie Power 33/1, Made too much use of when down the field in a 2m1f handicap hurdle at Cheltenham last time; more needed. This is easier than Cheltenham race she tackled on handicap debut; others still preferred. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (50/1 -52%)Kate Madrik |
50/1(-52%) | (9) Kate Madrik 50/1, Keen and needed the run when well beaten in a 3m2f handicap chase at Newton Abbot last time; effective at around 2m5f and better over fences. Well beaten in 3m2f chase on last month's stable debut; looks too risky in this 2m hurdle. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

A recent winner over C&D, BAIKAL has now won three of his last five starts. Grace Harris' charge drops in class for this and another bold bid looks on the cards if proving as effective on this slower ground. Clondaw Fame went close in a maiden hurdle here on debut for his new yard and is likely to prove competitive back in handicap company, while Wise Guy could shape well returning to a shorter trip on his reappearance.

Preference is for SURREY LORD (nap), who shaped pretty well on his seasonal/handicap debut and probably still has a bit more to offer.

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (9) (16/1 -45%)Support Act |
16/1(-45%) | (9) Support Act 16/1, Pulled up in a 3m handicap chase at Wetherby last time and needs to find improvement to feature. Made a promising chase debut in January; ran as though something was amiss next time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (6) (16/1 -129%)Bells Of Peterboro |
16/1(-129%) | (6) Bells Of Peterboro 16/1, Well backed but below form when comfortably held in a 3m4f handicap chase at Taunton last time. Trainer in form and remains in the mix. Second at Lingfield in February but too inconsistent to rely upon. |

28/1(-100%) | (4) Sporting Ace 28/1, Made mistakes and below form when well beaten in a 4m1f handicap chase at Newcastle last time. Needs to bounce back. Thorough stayer; may be of greater interest when back over a marathon trip after this run. |

12/1(-33%) | (11) House Of Stories 12/1, Outpaced and a bit lazy when fourth beaten 7l in a 3m handicap chase here last time. Wants further and softer ground ideally but not without a chance. Pulled up on chase debut but next two runs were much better; may still have potential. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (10) (22/1 -83%)Better Off Alone |
22/1(-83%) | (10) Better Off Alone 22/1, Pulled up in a 2m7f handicap chase at Worcester last time. Cheekpieces on for the first time. Effective around 3m and handles cut; should improve for the run after a short break. Still very unexposed but pulled up on last month's chase/handicap debut; headgear on. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (12) (80/1 -142%)Diol Ker |
80/1(-142%) | (12) Diol Ker 80/1, Pulled up in a 3m2f handicap chase at Newton Abbot last time. Needs easier ground and some improvement. Returns from a break on another career-low mark but needs to prove some ability remains. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

HOLOKEA may have been beaten at short odds on his chasing debut at Worcester in May, but still shaped with plenty of promise in second and, with improvement expected over further, he can go one better. A winner twice here over hurdles last season, Rosscahill could take well to the chasing game and is capable of entering calculations, along with Worcester runner-up Pimlico Point.

One who could have considerable potential is chasing debutant ROSSCAHILL, who was 2-3 over hurdles here last season.

4/1(+43%) | (3) Tune In A Box 4/1, Well backed and ran to form when beaten 3/4l off 126 over 2m4f at Uttoxeter last time. Trainer in form and looks the pick on balance of form. 4-14 over hurdles; in good form when last seen in May; makes chasing debut here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|B| (4) (12/1 -9%)Real Stone |
12/1(-9%) | (4) Real Stone 12/1, Found the ground a bit quick when beaten 8l in a 2m4f handicap chase at Uttoxeter last time. Best at around 2m. Inconsistent over last couple of years but Wetherby win in February gives him claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (2) (3/1 +60%)Willmount |
3/1(+60%) | (2) Willmount 3/1, Keen and below form when well backed, beaten 8l in a 2m handicap hurdle at Kempton last time. Returning from a long layoff and has a bit to find. Did not fulfill hurdling potential for Nicky Henderson; now chasing for new stable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (6) (9/2 +25%)Tommys Charm |
9/2(+25%) | (6) Tommys Charm 9/2, Improved markedly from debut when up in trip, beaten 3/4l off 117 over 3m1f at Wincanton last time. Returning from a long layoff; effective from 2 1/2m to 3m and suited by give in the ground. Was improving when last seen. Not seen since Wincanton second in January but that form worked out pretty well. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

A lightly-raced sort who was three from three last season in this sphere, FILANDERER was last seen scoring easily over C&D in April and he can follow up off 10lb higher on his return. Donnacha got the hang of things over fences earlier this year and he should be thereabouts on his first run since scoring at Chepstow in February off 6lb lower. Dropping back in trip is likely to suit Tommys Charm, while Willmount is another to note on his first start for the Rebecca Curtis team.

The vote goes to TOMMYS CHARM, who went close at Wincanton in January and is probably still on a good mark after a 3lb rise.

12/1(+14%) | (7) Just Her Type 12/1, Ran well to a point when comfortably held in a 2m handicap hurdle at Chepstow on her first start after wind surgery. Second run since the procedure; effective from 2m to 2 1/2m and acts on soft and good ground. Open to improvement though needs more. Step up in trip looks a positive and she's not ruled out if it sparks some improvement.. |

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

BOSTON JOE hit the crossbar over fences at this venue in April and is 2lb lower than when runner-up over timber at Chepstow last November. The nine-year-old boasts every chance of coming out on top. Kingston Gent blew away the cobwebs at Chepstow and remains capable of better on just his fourth run in a handicap, while Kalista Love and Hellfire Princess complete the shortlist.

Harriet Dickin's THE GREY MAN looks worth persevering with over this trip and, freshened up, he looks capable of producing better.

11/1(-22%) | (1) Turbo Boy 11/1, Mahler gelding; half-brother to Flying Fortune, who was very useful at 19f; dam was a high-class performer at 12f. Closely related to bumper and 2m3f/2m4f hurdle winner Flying Fortune. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Hopeless Dancer has shown ability in both previous starts and has to be noted, while similar comments apply to Freddiemissmolli. However, a chance can be taken on A KING OF MAGIC. The four-year-old was third on debut at Kempton in February and has subsequently joined the Paul Nicholls team. With the prospect of more to come, he could get off the mark. Any market support for Big John Ollie or Old Habits would have to be noted.

This may go to A KING OF MAGIC who was very green at Kempton and therefore did well to finish close up behind respected opposition.
Ths is the racecard key.
