An open contest in which many will fancy Uncle Bert, who defeated Kilbarry Hill (second) over this C&D last month. Nigel Twiston-Davies landed this 12 months ago and would appear to hold solid claims once again, but a chance is taken on CHASINGOUTTHEBLUES. His stamina came to the fore when leaving it late to win at Ayr recently and the unexposed six-year-old could still have more to offer. Others to note include Supremely West, I Am Max and Jipcot.

It looked unlikely that the strong-travelling JIPCOT would be plying his trade over 3m after placing in the Imperial Cup last spring, but he has been transformed since having wind surgery after a disappointing start to the season, proving better than ever for tackling longer trips. This should be run to suit and he can take this under an ultra-patient ride. There are a host of promising staying types among the rest, notably Nab Wood tackling 3m for the first time and the improving Kilbarry Hill.

This looks competitive but NAB WOOD gets the vote ahead of I Am Max and Minella Sixo.

It might pay to side with GIVE IT TO ME OJ. The gelded son of Time Test shaped with promise on his hurdling debut in October, where he finished third in behind Triumph hopeful East India Dock. He should have learned plenty from that experience and, with his yard coming into some form, a bold bid is expected. Marche D'aligre chased home talented French hurdler Nieztsche Has in a Grade 2 at Chepstow in December and is perhaps the main threat, although Lavender Hill Mob and Gibbs Island can't be underestimated.

MARCHE D'ALIGRE excelled himself when runner-up pitched into Grade 2 company at Chepstow and that looks to be the best form on offer. There's plenty of potential on show, though, with Give It To Me OJ and Gibbs Island open to lots of progress.

The Moore stable has won the last three runnings of this race and GIVE IT TO ME OJ can make it four in a row.

THE FLIER BEGLEY was in command when defeating Nocte Volatus (second) in a similar event at Market Rasen last month and despite being 4lb worse off with that rival, Gary Hanmer's in-form 10-year-old is expected to confirm his superiority. Whistleinthedark was no match for an impressive winner at Warwick, but that effort signalled a return to form and he merits respect. Eaton Collina is noted too.

It could be worth chancing WHISTLEINTHEDARK, who took a big step back in the right direction when second on first crack in veterans' company at Warwick last week and he's potentially very well treated if building on that. The Flier Begley and Nocte Volatus who finished 1-2 at Market Rasen 4 weeks ago head up the dangers.

Gary Hanmer has done an excellent job with THE FLIER BEGLEY, who is taken to follow up last month's win at Market Rasen.

Beauport made the frame in the Long Walk at Ascot when last seen just before Christmas and he could be hard to catch if allowed an easy lead once again. However, marginal preference is for BOTOX HAS, who won this contest 12 months ago and looked to be coming back to form when third in the Cleeve Hurdle at Cheltenham last month. Nemean Lion has to prove himself over this distance but holds the ability to go well if seeing it out.

BEAUPORT will take a bit of pegging back if in anything like the same form as when second in the Grade 1 Long Walk at Ascot in December. With doubts about the classy Nemean Lion's stamina tackling 3m for the first time it could be that the chief threat comes from last year's winner Botox Has.

Preference is for last year's winner BOTOX HAS, who is bidding to make it 3-3 at Haydock. Beauport is a big danger.

ROYALE PAGAILLE may have disappointed when favourite for the Peter Marsh here last month, but the veteran can be given another chance based on his previous performances at this venue. That includes back-to-back victories in the Betfair Chase and Venetia Williams' gelding should not be underestimated. Val Dancer accounted for Jubilee Express (second) when winning the Welsh Grand National in December and they both have to be of interest as a result. Last year's winner Yeah Man is another with claims.

YEAH MAN was a ready winner of this event 12 months ago and has shown enough in a couple of starts this season to suggest he has another staying handicap in him. He can take the prize home again. There are plenty of dangers, however, with Git Maker and Apple Away particularly feared.

Five are out of the handicap, notably Welsh National one-two Val Dancer and Jubilee Express. The vote goes to APPLE AWAY (nap).

MOON ROCKET looks a stayer with bags of potential and he confirmed that when finishing a narrow runner-up in the River Don over an extended 3m at Doncaster last month. With the promise of more to come, he can get back in the winning groove. Point-to-point winner Kepler's Law scored with the minimum of fuss over an extended 2m4f at Leicester and, tackling this trip for the first time under Rules, he could emerge as the main danger, ahead of Derryhassen Paddy.

DERRYHASSEN PADDY has looked a good prospect when winning all 4 of his starts in varied company, showing a very willing attitude in a Windsor novice last month, and he can take this step up in grade in his stride. Heading the list of dangers is Moon Rocket, who shaped well when edged out close home in the River Don at Doncaster, with Kepler's Law also one to note.

The unbeaten DERRYHASSEN PADDY has star potential and earns the vote ahead of Moon Rocket, who went close in a recent Grade 2.

In what looks a trappy affair on paper, MY DROGO gets a tentative nod. He was a very smart performer in his pomp and, having won a point-to-point over 3m for these connections last month, he's very interesting. Jet Plane was last seen running out a comfortable winner over 3m at Wetherby and a repeat of that effort should see him go well again. Hollow Games and Take All are a couple of others to consider.

A few with chances but FAMOUS CLERMONT looks the pick at these weights so gets the verdict at the chief expense of Irish-challenger Hollow Games. Jet Plane and My Drogo enter calculations too.

A hot hunter chase to finish with. JET PLANE easily won one of these at Wetherby a fortnight ago and is taken to follow up.
Ths is the racecard key.
