VIRTUAL HUG met trouble at a vital point at Bath last time and did well to occupy the runner-up berth. The son of Buratino is only 1lb higher for that effort and he could prove very hard to beat with a clearer passage this time around. Just Hiss overcame his slow start to finish a fair fourth in this grade over 1m2f at Ripon last month and he should remain competitive off 1lb lower, while Bloodhound is another to keep an eye on.

Plenty with claims here but SISTERANDBROTHER looked unlucky not to score at Doncaster last week and still looks on a workable mark. He gets the nod. Clifftop Heaven and Virtual Hug head the list of dangers.

The Wolverhampton regulars Clifftop Heaven, and Virtual Hug make the shortlist, but the preferred choice is SISTERANDBROTHER.

Sunbelt hasn't been seen since scoring on her debut over a mile at Yarmouth in October 2022, so it will be interesting to see how she fares in the market on her return. However, the vote goes to the race-fit SUBSEQUENT, who took a big leap forward from his debut effort to take the silver medal over 1m2f at Salisbury last month, shaping as if this step up in trip would be a good move. With further progression, the son of Galileo could prove very hard to beat. Inner Peace isn't out of it in first-time cheekpieces.

GULF LEGEND made a promising reappearance when third at Newbury last month, form boosted by the runner-up winning next time, and he can continue his progression to open his account. Subsequent also improved from his debut when runner-up at Salisbury 22 days ago and could be the main danger, ahead of Inner Peace.

One of several potential improvers is SUBSEQUENT, who went close last time and should be suited by this longer trip. He gets the vote.

THE KING'S GENERAL attempted to make all but faded in fourth in the closing stages at Nottingham on his latest outing and he now takes a step up in distance. With a change of tactics and the likelihood of plenty more to offer, he can take the step forward required to get his head in front. Move On In has been gelded since failing to justify favouritism when second over 1m here in September last year and he should go well on his return to the fray. Of the rest, King's Reign makes the most appeal.

KING'S REIGN cost a fortune as a yearling and showed enough in a pair of starts last season to think he'll do much better at 3 yrs. Hampden wasn't quite at his best in a York handicap last time but should be able to make an impact in these calmer waters, with Move On In and The King's General also holding leading claims.

This step up in trip could help the improving THE KING'S GENERAL take another step forward and break his duck at the third attempt.

A creditable second to a subsequent winner in the mud at Windsor last time out, SNUGGLE looks the one to beat on his return to better ground, having scored in similar conditions on his penultimate outing. Narrowly denied last time out and a three-time winner around here, Cold Stare must enter calculations, along with Ray Vonn, who regained the winning thread with a determined performance at Nottingham last month. Others to note include Minnesota Lad, Trilby and Vince Lombardi.

COLD STARE returned to form and hit the line strong at Hamilton 9 days ago and, if the pace is solid, he may be able to go one better in an open race. Ray Vonn is an obvious danger on the back of a reappearance win and Trilby is one to bear in mind dropping in grade.

Kevin Frost's HARRY'S HALO can reverse placings with Trilby from their April C&D clash. Cold Stare is next best.

ANANDA showed that the ability is still intact when putting in a strong runner-up effort on her return from a 611-day break at Doncaster last month. A mark of 82 looks manageable on her handicap debut and this daughter of Frankel may have too much for easy Chester winner Nighteyes, as well as the unexposed Cuban Melody, who got off the mark in taking fashion at Windsor last month.

NIGHTEYES confirmed her reappearance promise in no uncertain terms and marked herself down as one to keep on side when running out a ready winner at Chester 2 weeks ago, quickening to lead final 1f and drawing clear. Open to further improvement, she earns the vote to come out on top again. Ananda, Thursday's Child and Rock Melody head up the dangers in an interesting fillies' handicap.

3yos Cuban Melody and Thursday's Child are greatly respected but ANANDA brings untapped potential too.

Charlie Appleby has won this race twice in the last three years with subsequent Group/Grade 1 winners, which means that ROYAL OFFICER has to be of interest. The son of Galileo was a 1,000,000gns purchase at a breeze-up sale in April and he is closely related to the French 1m3f Listed winner Hidden Dimples. Seagulls Eleven (second) was a place in front of Green Storm (third) when they met on debut over C&D recently and Hugo Palmer's colt could well confirm that form here. Best Adventure was another costly purchase at 650,000gns and he has to be noted, along with Aegean Sea and Castle Stuart.

The eye is immediately drawn to ROYAL OFFICER, who represents top connections and both his pedigree and price tag suggest that he will prove to an above-average newcomer. Seagulls Eleven is the clear pick of the trio with experience and he is feared, along with likely-looking types Aegean Sea and Best Adventure.

Charlie Appleby has saddled two of the last three winners of this race and his ROYAL OFFICER gets the vote.

OLD COCK confirmed the promise that he displayed on debut when getting off the mark in impressive style over a mile at Ayr next time. Further progression seems highly likely and an opening mark of 77 may well underestimate him. Winter Life is also progressive and could prove to be the main threat, although Asimov and Amancio are also capable of going well.

Plenty of unexposed types in this 3-y-o handicap but it's one of the most experienced in AMANCIO who gets the nod to resume winning ways having found just one too good over C&D a fortnight ago. Normand Legend and Campaign Medal are both open to improvement switching to handicaps, so they can provide most resistance, while Devoirs Choice is another who shouldn't be underestimated after an eye-catching third start.

Amancio sets the standard on handicap form. The rest are less exposed and OLD COCK (nap), in particular, brings plenty of promise.
Ths is the racecard key.
