1st (8) (5/4 +29%)Walks The Talk |
5/4(+29%) | (8) Walks The Talk 5/4, Won a maiden hurdle at Roscommon over 2m4f by 5 1/2l last time; effective at 2 1/2m and acts on soft and good ground. Although the form of her debut win has taken knocks, her point form suggests she has more to offer over further. Dominated 16-runner mares' maiden from the front on hurdle debut; major player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (9/4 +50%)Tamarind Bay |
9/4(+50%) | (7) Tamarind Bay 9/4, Ran to form when fourth, beaten 2l, in a novice hurdle over 2m at Hexham last time; effective at 2 1/2m and may stay a bit further. Appears suited by good ground and is generally in good form. 0-8 over hurdles but has some fair handicap form on his record; latest defeat excusable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (18/1 +28%)Humble Jumble |
18/1(+28%) | (5) Humble Jumble 18/1, Made mistakes and was outpaced, needing the run when down the field in a novice hurdle over 2m here last time. Effective at 2m, bred to stay further, and the form of his bumper win has taken knocks. Course bumper winner; in rear throughout hurdle debut but can do better at some stage. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (3/1 -33%)Scarlet Jet |
3/1(-33%) | (1) Scarlet Jet 3/1, Improved on recent form when winning a maiden hurdle at Perth over 2m4f by 9 1/2l last time; effective at 2 1/2m, and the form of that win has been franked. Big player under a penalty. Drew clear to win by over 9l at Perth in April; obvious contender if still in similar nick. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (12/1 +40%)Kelvin Forlonge |
12/1(+40%) | (6) Kelvin Forlonge 12/1, Needed the run when comfortably held in a novice hurdle over 2m5f here last time; effective at 2–2 1/2m and should come on for the outing. Made quite encouraging hurdle debut in March but didn't build on it here last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (125/1 -150%)Blue Indigo |
125/1(-150%) | (2) Blue Indigo 125/1, Pulled up in a maiden hurdle over 2m4f at Perth last time; effective at 2 1/2m. Looks one for low-grade handicaps. Ran well for long way here on last month's hurdling debut but pulled up at Perth since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (100/1 -456%)Ellistrin Bay |
100/1(-456%) | (4) Ellistrin Bay 100/1, Outpaced but showed minor promise when third, beaten 14l, in a bumper over 2m here on debut. Hard to recommend. Safely held when third of five in modest course bumper in April; hurdle debut today. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Ruth Jefferson trained the last two winners of this race and, with that in mind, her point-to-point recruit Country Code is high on the shortlist. Walks The Talk, a winner between the flags, landed a mares' maiden hurdle at Roscommon last time and could improve further now she steps up in trip. However, it could be a good move keeping SCARLET JET in novice company after a ready success at Perth when last seen and he gets the nod.

Preference is for WALKS THE TALK, who represents a respected Irish stable and who created a good impression on her hurdling debut.

8/1(0%) | (3) Grain D'oudairies 8/1, Possibly something amiss when below form, finishing fourth beaten 23l in a handicap chase over 2m4f at Bangor-on-Dee last time; could bounce back down in trip Drop back in trip looks a plus but mark is still on the high side. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (11/1 -22%)Treaty Boy |
11/1(-22%) | (6) Treaty Boy 11/1, Hampered and departed late when closing, having looked a big threat; effective around 2m and acts on soft and good ground, though inconsistent of late. In the process of running well when brought down in C&D event last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (12/1 -336%)Coup De Coeur |
12/1(-336%) | (1) Coup De Coeur 12/1, Well handicapped off an unchanged mark when landing a handicap by 7l off 115 over 2m at Carlisle last time; a contender. Has form figures of 3121 since racing in British chases; may improve further. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (33/1 -32%)Chumlee |
33/1(-32%) | (7) Chumlee 33/1, Modest chase debut when comfortably held in a handicap chase over 2m at Carlisle last time; returning from a long layoff and a value selection based on the balance of form. Possibly flattered by the bare form when last seen; again out of weights. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (2/1 +82%)Bois Guillbert |
2/1(+82%) | (2) Bois Guillbert 2/1, Not a clear run when comfortably held in a handicap chase over 2m4f at Perth last time; usually held up and worth another chance. May revive on reappearance (respectable record fresh). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (5/4 +0%)Heads Or Harps |
5/4(+0%) | (4) Heads Or Harps 5/4, Latest form strong, dropped in trip when landing a handicap by 13l off 101 at Ayr last time; progressive over fences; the pick on balance of form. Record of 421 switched to chasing last season; open to further progress; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (5) (12/1 +40%)Carcaci Castle |
12/1(+40%) | (5) Carcaci Castle 12/1, Yard won this last year; below form after being made too much use of and comfortably held in a handicap chase over 2m at Hexham last time. Far from solid on 2025 form; best watched. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

The Lucinda Russell yard sent out three winners of this race between 2016 and 2023 and it could be business as usual for the dual Grand National-winning handler and co-trainer Michael Scudamore if HEADS OR HARPS resumes with the same zest as when he got off the mark over fences at Ayr. A 12lb rise for that facile success complicates matters and creates hope for the likes of Coup De Coeur and Grain D'oudairies, who both have convincing chase form on their portfolios.

This may be decided between the two who look open to further improvement this season, namely HEADS OR HARPS and Coup De Coeur.

1st (1) (10/11 +74%)Authorized Mission |
10/11(+74%) | (1) Authorized Mission 10/11, On a stiff mark and below form when dropped in trip, finishing down the field in a 2m4f handicap hurdle at Ayr last time. The trainer is in good form and he remains among the contenders. Well held last twice but he still has potential; needs watching in market on stable debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (8) (5/1 0%)Tees Comp's Clive |
5/1(0%) | (8) Tees Comp's Clive 5/1, Ran to form when just flattening out late up in trip, finishing fourth beaten 7 1/2l in a 3m handicap hurdle at Wetherby last time. Wears cheekpieces for the first time and is effective from 2 1/2m to 3m. 0-12 over hurdles but a decent effort at Wetherby last month; dangerous. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (11/1 -83%)Trailblazer |
11/1(-83%) | (3) Trailblazer 11/1, Failed to find much when well beaten in a 2m1f handicap hurdle at Sedgefield last time. Best over a stiff 2m and had been in fair form until that run. Generally consistent in handicaps but disappointing last time; bit to prove after that. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (16/1 -167%)Better Be Definite |
16/1(-167%) | (6) Better Be Definite 16/1, From a yard that won this last year. Well held off a revised mark, below form and well backed when down the field in a 2m7f handicap hurdle at Hexham last time. Previously in good form after a lengthy absence and progressive. Both wins have been at around 3m and he has something to prove after 503 days off. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (40/1 -43%)Blended Stealth |
40/1(-43%) | (9) Blended Stealth 40/1, Made too much use of and was comfortably held in a 2m4f handicap hurdle at Hexham last time. Temperament concerns remain. Just 1-36 over hurdles and he's been tailed off in last three runs. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (20/1 +29%)Bridge Court |
20/1(+29%) | (2) Bridge Court 20/1, Pulled up in a 2m4f handicap hurdle at Hexham last time when still showing signs of greenness. Needs to improve to be competitive. Lightly raced 6yo but he's been pulled up in both handicaps; something to prove on return. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (5) (9/1 -64%)Coral Blue |
9/1(-64%) | (5) Coral Blue 9/1, Rallied for a better effort back from a break off a reduced mark when beaten 5l in a 2m4f handicap hurdle at Carlisle last time. Effective at around 2 1/2m and needs to build on that revival. Reappeared with a respectable fifth at Carlisle and has claims if he can build on that. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (7) (22/1 -175%)Cage Rattler |
22/1(-175%) | (7) Cage Rattler 22/1, Had too much to do and was unsuited by a modest pace when beaten 7 1/4l in a 2m handicap hurdle at Perth last time. Usually held up in his races. 0-8 over hurdles but he has solid record in handicaps and is in the mix after 153 days off. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (13/2 -44%)Gonnino |
13/2(-44%) | (4) Gonnino 13/2, Ran to form on handicap debut when fourth, beaten 5 1/2l in a 2m handicap hurdle at Perth last time. Completely unexposed and the pick on balance of form. Unexposed 6yo and he's open to more progress upped to this trip on his return; interesting. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Tees Comp's Clive attracted plenty of attention in the betting when fourth at Wetherby and the market reaction will be noteworthy now he goes with cheekpieces added. Support for Trailblazer and the returning Better Be Definite can also be justified based on the pick of their back form. However, it could be worth taking a chance on the low-mileage GONNINO, who has shown some promise during his four previous starts over hurdles and stepping up in trip could now be highly beneficial.

Preference is for the unexposed GONNINO, who is open to more progress upped to this trip on his reappearance.

1st (8) (16/5 +60%)Take A Hike |
16/5(+60%) | (8) Take A Hike 16/5, Never jumped or travelled and had too much to do when below form on chase debut, well beaten in a 3m Hexham handicap chase last time; in good form prior, returning from a break, and can improve with a clear round. 0-7 over hurdles but she's shown some promise in handicaps; could be dangerous on return. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (4/1 +53%)Maillot Blanc |
4/1(+53%) | (3) Maillot Blanc 4/1, The yard has won two of the last eight renewals; needed the run when well beaten in a 2m4f handicap hurdle at Perth last time; effective from 2½m to 3m but inconsistent. Won at Perth in June but well held there in last two starts; needs to get back near best. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (7/2 -87%)Rickety Gate |
7/2(-87%) | (5) Rickety Gate 7/2, Back to form after a break when third, beaten 5l, in a 2m4f handicap hurdle at Carlisle most recently; trainer in good form; effective around 2½m on good ground. Dual C&D winner who reappeared with a good third of 15 at Carlisle (2m4f); big player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (9) (40/1 +20%)Flying Sandpiper |
40/1(+20%) | (9) Flying Sandpiper 40/1, Below form when needing the run and wanting further, finishing down the field in a 2m Hexham handicap hurdle most recently; second run after a wind operation; plenty more required. Has not finished closer than seventh in his seven starts; needs a transformation on return. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (8/1 +11%)Bathgate |
8/1(+11%) | (1) Bathgate 8/1, No obvious excuse when finishing down the field in a 2m handicap hurdle here most recently; effective at 2m but currently out of form. On reduced mark but he's lost his way and has plenty to prove back up in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (13/2 -8%)Leader Wing |
13/2(-8%) | (7) Leader Wing 13/2, Outpaced when the race came too soon, finishing fourth beaten 24l in a 2m7f handicap hurdle at Uttoxeter latest; remains a threat. 0-10 over hurdles but he enters the reckoning on his best form last season; in the mix. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (6/1 -33%)Mystical Martika |
6/1(-33%) | (4) Mystical Martika 6/1, Travelled well and improved but did not find as much as looked likely when fourth, beaten 15l in a 2m novice hurdle at Hexham latest; effective at 2m and should come on for the run. Handicap newcomer and he needs a close look upped in trip; yard won this last year. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (2) (16/1 -78%)Grand Voyage |
16/1(-78%) | (2) Grand Voyage 16/1, Pulled up in a handicap chase at Ayr on his latest start; fair mark on chase form and may be capable of getting involved. On last winning mark but he needs a major revival back over hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (6) (25/1 -79%)Ingennio |
25/1(-79%) | (6) Ingennio 25/1, Pulled up in a 2m4f handicap chase at Hexham on latest start; not without a chance if bouncing back but unreliable. Dual chase winner but he was pulled up last time and is 0-13 over hurdles. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

MYSTICAL MARTIKA ran her best race so far over hurdles when fourth at Hexham on her return to action and her unexposed profile makes her appeal most in a contest where the majority of her rivals have something to prove. Rickety Gate placed at Carlisle last month and is respected off the same mark, while Leader Wing completes the shortlist.

This can go to RICKETY GATE, who is 2-3 over C&D and was a creditable third on his Carlisle reappearance last month.
Class & Speed Card
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

The Navigator has found a new lease of life in recent months and arrives in search of a C&D hat-trick. The veteran deserves plenty of respect, but may prove vulnerable to a less-exposed type in the shape of ROCHEVAL. The five-year-old wasn't disgraced in finishing sixth at the Punchestown Festival in April and he is expected to have more to offer this campaign. Cannock Park, Joecooker and Wolfspear are others for the shortlist.

A creditable sixth at the Punchestown festival in the spring, ROCHEVAL probably still has potential and gets the vote.
Class & Speed Card
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

Dare To Shout made a successful return to the fray at Carlisle last month and holds an obvious chance, but the vote goes to NED TANNER. The nine-year-old was last seen finishing fourth in a warmer event at Ayr and is a two-time C&D winner. If ready to go, he could prove a tough nut to crack. Walk On Quest also likes it around here and is another to watch out for.

Another chance is given to CADELL. He jumped out to the right here two weeks ago but he has won around and blinkers are now added.
Class & Speed Card
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

SIR CARNEGIE readily justified favouritism in this grade at Newcastle last week and now has a 7lb higher rating to contend with. Considering the manner of that victory, the five-year-old appears the one to beat again. Wearelongterm made the frame at this circuit on his most recent start and should remain competitive off an unchanged mark. Of the rest, Auchinlek makes the most appeal.

Topweight SIR CARNEGIE (nap) impressed at Newcastle last week and is selected to follow up. Auchinlek may be the chief danger.
Ths is the racecard key.
