A comfortable winner of his last two starts in bumpers here, DEDICATED HERO looks just the type who could excel over hurdles this season and, as a former point-to-pointer, stepping up in trip should not inconvenience him. Runner-up on each of his last four starts, including over 2m here a couple of weeks ago, Tommys Law brings plenty of experience to the table, while French recruit Bel Amigo should be monitored for market support ahead of his debut for Nick Alexander.

BEL AMIGO sets a clear standard setting out for a new yard based on his French form, so has to be considered the one to beat on his UK debut. Dedicated Hero is an interesting rival given he's a dual bumper winner at this track and rates the main threat ahead of Tommys Law.

Sandy Thomson's DEDICATED HERO has looked a nice prospect in winning two bumpers here.

CHASE A FORTUNE may have ground to make up on Trac from two runs in the spring, but he remains unexposed in this sphere and his return at Sedgefield last month was very encouraging. The six-year-old remains on a workable mark and he is preferred to Carlisle second Fia Fuinidh, as well as dual C&D winner Gold Des Bois, who was runner-up over track and trip last time out. Bollingerandkrug is 7lb lower than when landing this contest last year so must not be ruled out either.

GOLD DES BOIS did enough on his first start for Sandy Thomson here a fortnight ago to suggest a race of this nature is well within his compass. Fia Fuinidh ran well on his reappearance at Carlisle last month and is feared most.

A two-year losing run hardly makes GOLD DES BOIS bet compelling but a recent C&D second suggests he may be ready to strike again.

The progressive LUCKIE SEVEN has now won both of his starts over hurdles, having defied a penalty when successful in novice company at Perth in September. The six-year-old will likely have more to offer on his handicap debut and Nicky Richards' inmate is taken to continue winning ways. The Navigator also bids for a hat-trick with solid claims and had the measure of Harper Valley (third) at Sedgefield last month. Bois Guillbert merits consideration too.

Progressive in bumpers, LUCKIE SEVEN made it 2-2 over hurdles despite still showing signs of inexperience in a Perth novice in September. Very much the type to progress further now handicapping, he looks up to playing a lead role from his opening mark. The Navigator has thrived of late and should be in the mix again. Forged Well, back at 2½m, and low-mileage I Am Max complete the shortlist.

The vote goes to the lightly raced LUCKIE SEVEN (nap), who is unbeaten in two hurdles and makes appeal on his handicap debut.

HALF SHOT has improved for the fitting of blinkers and followed a C&D victory with a fine second at Wetherby. This looks less competitive and he can resume winning ways, with his rider's 5lb allowance helping his cause. Choose A Copper made a successful debut over the larger obstacles at Hexham on his reappearance and there should be more to come from him over fences, while last month's Carlisle winner Five Dollar Fine looks worth another try over this trip.

The vote goes to unexposed 6-y-o CHOOSE A COPPER, who made the perfect start to his chase career at Hexham where, save for a scare at the first fence, he put in a good round of jumping. There should be more to come from Lucinda Russell's charge in this sphere. Breakdance Kid is just about second choice ahead of Five Dollar Fine and Half Shot.

If there's a useful prospect in the field it's probably CHOOSE A COPPER and Lucinda Russell's 6yo is taken to follow up his Hexham win.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

STARLYTE may be winless since November 2022, but she bounced back to form to occupy the runner-up berth over C&D and is fancied to end the drought. Marty Mcfly has undergone wind surgery since scoring at Perth in June, which might bring about further improvement, while Maillot Blanc has yet to click for new connections but is a capable sort on his day. Returning from a long absence, Gonfalonier could have a say in proceedings as well.

MARTY MCLFY has to prove his stamina for this far but made a sound start for his new yard during the middle of 2024 and is taken to pick up where he left off. Starlyte must enter the reckoning on her runner-up effort over C&D recently with her mark unchanged, while the market will help assess Gonfalonier on his return from a long time off the track.

An open handicap. MAILLOT BLANC is still finding his feet after an absence and his last run was quite encouraging.

BEYOND THE VERGE overcame inexperience to make a successful start to his career over C&D in September and although he has to carry a 7lb winner's penalty today, he shaped like he would have learned plenty from that experience and should have more to offer now. Humble Jumble cost 30,000 pounds last year and is an interesting newcomer for Lucinda Russell, while Burning It Up showed promise when third in a point-to-point and must be respected having been subsequently purchased for 35,000 pounds.

BEYOND THE VERGE, who caused an upset when successful first time out over C&D, could be above avaerage and can follow up under a penalty. Humble Jumble is another one to be interested in first-time out.

There's not much to go on but HUMBLE JUMBLE looks an interesting newcomer, with Beyond The Verge perhaps vulnerable with his penalty
Ths is the racecard key.
