CRESTA CAT has shown a distinct preference for soft going and won with any amount in hand at Nottingham just four days ago. He can defy a 5lb penalty and land the hat-trick, with this extra distance not a problem. It was heavy ground when Fen Tiger won this in 2022 and another bold bid looks on the cards competing off the same mark. The progressive Liberated Lad and Cherryhawk are others worthy of consideration.

CRESTA CAT has been resurgent returned to testing ground of late, following up his Brighton victory with plenty to spare at Nottingham 4 days ago. Wisely turned out under a penalty, he gets the nod to complete the hat-trick back up in trip. Cherryhawk, back from a break, Fen Tiger and Red Derek head up the dangers, with Liberated Lad another to consider.

Although winless since taking this two years ago, FEN TIGER has been running well and being proven on the ground ticks a big box.

BE AN ANGEL was beaten only a neck over C&D on debut, despite showing signs of inexperience. Rod Millman's filly handled the testing going perfectly well on that occasion and can open her account with normal improvement. Ann Terry put a couple of lesser efforts behind her when finishing a solid second at Pontefract last month and she makes more appeal than the penalised Fleetwater and Impatiently.

BE AN ANGEL produced a promising first effort amid greenness when just touched off in a C&D novice 2 weeks ago and with conditions holding no fears, she's fancied to go one place better with progress anticipated. Fleetwater is narrowly preferred to Ann Terry for the forecast.

Fleetwater edges Ann Terry for second preference but BE AN ANGEL went close on her debut here when the ground was heavy.

The prevailing heavy going will help the cause of ZADKIEL. The son of Dark Angel finished a respectable third over 6f here last time, when also giving the impression today's extra furlong will prove well within his compass, and he looks one to keep on the right side of. Unex Friendly just had the measure of Laurens Dream when runner-up at Yarmouth and has to enter calculations on that form, while Borderline Madness is worth a second glance returning to 7f for her nursery debut.

LAURENS DREAM shaped well and was noted finishing to good effect having been forced to delay her challenge when third at Yarmouth (7f) 2 weeks ago. Up to defying this sort of mark on that evidence, she gets the nod to confirm the promise of that run. Zadkiel under Rossa Ryan and Unex Friendly look next best.

Stepping up to 7f looks sure to suit the well-bred ZADKIEL (nap) who ran his best race yet here last time on heavy ground.

Runner-up at Newbury before occupying the same position at York, Belgrave sets the standard with an official rating of 81 and he looks set to go close once more. Ralph Beckett's colt may have to settle for silver again, though, as ONE MORE gets the vote. Too keen to quite see out 7f behind the subsequent Horris Hill winner at Newbury last month, a drop in trip could play to his strengths. Lexington Rocket shaped with considerable promise at Yarmouth after missing the break and he should know more this time around.

BELGRAVE has stepped forward with each run so far and sets a good standard after his recent York second, though all 3 in opposition do strike as likely improvers, with One More rating as the likeliest danger ahead of Lexington Rocket.

The suggestion is BELGRAVE who probably ran into a good one at York, though the same was definitely true of One More at Newbury.

ALZAHIR trounced Blufferonthebus (second) in a seller over C&D recently and although 12lb worse off with that rival, it is difficult to see the form being reversed. The latter, admittedly, looks the most likely to serve it up to the selection. That said, Beau Gars shares an identical rating and might provide some additional resistance in receipt of a further 3lb.

ALZAHIR had a couple of these behind when winning a C&D seller earlier in the month and he's an obvious pick to successfully concede weight all round. Blufferonthebus can chase the selection home again, with Liberty Mountain a modest pick for third.

As the best horse in the race and now proven in the mud, it's difficult to get away from recent course winner ALZAHIR.

EQUION built on some pleasing efforts in defeat when ploughing through the mud over C&D a couple of weeks ago and conditions are in his favour again as he attempts to defy a 5lb higher mark. Marsh Benham is thriving on his racing and justified favouritism at Brighton just two days after running behind the selection here. Run For The Sun chased home a couple of subsequent winners at Ffos Las, with another right behind her, and Turn Up The Heat warrants consideration too.

Both winners under testing conditions recently, EQUION and Marsh Benham can be expected to come to the fore once again. There isn't much to choose between them, with marginal preference for the former who did the job well over this C&D recently and he remains on a winning mark up 5 lb. Marsh Benham has two ways of running but he will be a serious threat if able to reproduce the form of his career-best display at Brighton 11 days ago. Turn Up The Heat is third choice ahead of Run For The Sun.

It might pay to take a chance on TURN UP THE HEAT whose best effort to date came on heavy and on the back of a similar absence.

MISTER BLUEBIRD's return to form has coincided with the ground going testing and he gave favourite-backers few concerns at Bath. Heather Main's grey has a 5lb penalty to contend with, but he might be able to dictate matters in this small field and is fancied to follow up. Marching Mac is a major threat, though, because he has won three times in just over a month and laughed at his rivals at Nottingham. Brooklyn Nine Nine and Batal Zabeel both drop in class so can't be dismissed lightly.

MARCHING MAC is thriving at present and strongly fancied to bag a fourth win of the autumn on the back of his facile Nottingham victory last week. Recent Bath scorer Mister Bluebird appeals as the one to chase home Phil McEntee's 3-y-o ahead of Brooklyn Nine Nine.

Any of the four could win but BROOKLYN NINE NINE is accustomed to stronger races than this.
Ths is the racecard key.
