1st (4) (9/4 +55%)Upepo |
9/4(+55%) | (4) Upepo 9/4, Well below form when down the field in a Southwell handicap most recently; effective 12-16f and acts on the all-weather. The step back up in trip may help. Down in weights and returns to a more suitable trip; a revival could be imminent. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (8) (20/1 -43%)Queen Sansa |
20/1(-43%) | (8) Queen Sansa 20/1, Again ran to a poor level when beaten 10l in a handicap at Chelmsford last time. Effective 7-11f and acts on the all-weather; needs to bounce back. Not at her best of late and she will need to settle better upped in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (11/2 +50%)Voix De Bocelli |
11/2(+50%) | (2) Voix De Bocelli 11/2, Ran to form when fourth, beaten 17l, in a handicap hurdle at Plumpton last time. Effective at 10f and acts on the all-weather; the return to the Flat may suit. Two Brighton wins earlier in the year; gone off the boil (Flat and hurdles) more recently. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (12/1 +0%)Come To Pass |
12/1(+0%) | (7) Come To Pass 12/1, Below form when comfortably held in a handicap hurdle at Stratford last time; effective around 10f and acts on the all-weather. Absent for a very lengthy period and others appear likelier. Two course wins in late 2022; absent 547 days and likely best watched. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (25/1 -79%)High Favour |
25/1(-79%) | (5) High Favour 25/1, Bit below form when well beaten in a maiden at Galway last time; absent for a very lengthy period. Effective at 7f and acts on the all-weather but hard to fancy on stable debut. Unplaced in three 7f maidens for Jim Bolger last summer; 506-day absence to defy. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (3/1 +54%)Extrication |
3/1(+54%) | (1) Extrication 3/1, Produced his best work late when beaten 5 1/4l in a handicap at Chelmsford last time; hood on for the first time after a short break. Effective 7-10f on the all-weather but unreliable, with stamina still to prove. Exposed maiden; new stable trying a new trip and with a hood fitted. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (6) (12/1 -380%)Foinix |
12/1(-380%) | (6) Foinix 12/1, Again ran to a poor level when comfortably held in a maiden hurdle at Plumpton last time; effective 10-16f, suited by fast ground, acts on AW; considered on return to Flat. In good form on the Flat in the summer; subsequent hurdle runs easy to forgive; e-w shout. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (3) (7/2 -17%)Seventy |
7/2(-17%) | (3) Seventy 7/2, Bit below form, made too much use of when well beaten in a handicap at Kempton latest; off a short-break; suited by 12f, acts on AW; could bounce back on stable debut. Went close at Kempton in August (1m4f); sold 12,000gns in October; interesting candidate. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

FOINIX has struggled over timber recently, but he was in good form on the level in the autumn and whilst a few of these arrive with something to prove, he looks the safest option. Seventy failed to reward favourite backers at Kempton latest but does still have scope for further improvement, and connections will be hopeful that the application of a first-time hood can help stable debutant Extrication.

Foinix will be happier back on the Flat but SEVENTY isn't fully exposed just yet and can make a winning stable debut.

7/2(+65%) | (4) Intervention 7/2, Bit keen but took a step back in the right direction when dropped in grade, beaten 5 1/4l in a seller at Southwell last time. Effective over 6f and 7f and acts on the all-weather; now below his last winning mark. Prolific winner but not at best twice last month and will face competition for the lead. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (3/1 +50%)Valley Ofthe Kings |
3/1(+50%) | (3) Valley Ofthe Kings 3/1, Scored by a length off 80 at Chelmsford penultimate start; bit below best last time; effective 5-7f, acts on sound surface; down 1lb and can go well. 2-4 since blinkers went on; not at his best last time and needs to hit new heights today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (15/2 -15%)Tiger Crusade |
15/2(-15%) | (2) Tiger Crusade 15/2, Ran to form, strong at finish in landing a handicap by a neck off 72 at Brighton last time; best at 7f, acts on GF, AW; returning off much higher AW mark. Class 5 turf win when last seen in June; returns to action off a tough AW mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (7/2 -17%)Counsel |
7/2(-17%) | (5) Counsel 7/2, Showed improved form, his best since 2022, when landing a handicap by 1 1/4l off 77 here last time. Effective at 5f and 6f and acts on the all-weather; considered under a penalty. Impressive from the front over C&D last week; solid claims under a penalty. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (17/2 -55%)Mc Loven |
17/2(-55%) | (6) Mc Loven 17/2, Again below form when beaten 3 1/4l off 72 here last time. Enjoys making the running; best at 5f but stays 6f and acts on the all-weather; needs to bounce back. Trailblazer who lurks on a dangerous mark; has 6f form but happier at 5f. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (18/5 -31%)Society Man |
18/5(-31%) | (1) Society Man 18/5, Scored by a neck off 85 at Kempton on his penultimate start and ran to form off a slightly higher mark last time. Effective over 7f and 8f, and goes well on the all-weather; can go well again. Not beaten far over 7f here two weeks ago; having a rare 6f run; still on a handy mark. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Tiger Crusade was able to exploit a lower turf mark to score at Brighton in June and is respected following a break, as is Society Man, who should benefit from a strong pace likely to be set by Mc Loven. Intervention should not be underestimated, but stable companion COUNSEL gets the nod. Mick Appleby's gelding won in comfortable fashion over C&D recently and a 4lb penalty is unlikely to stop him.

He may not be able to boss this field from the front but COUNSEL (nap) still makes plenty of appeal as he bids to defy a penalty.

9/2(-80%) | (5) Blue Nguru 9/2, Too free early up in trip and didn't get home when fourth beaten 5l in a nursery here latest; suited by 6f, didn't stay 7f. This drop back in trip looks in order. She isn't progressing but still brings solid form claims; drop to 5f could suit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (8) (9/1 0%)Pilgrim's Progress |
9/1(0%) | (8) Pilgrim's Progress 9/1, Too keen but still improved on a poor debut when fourth beaten 6l in a maiden at Newbury latest; off a short break. Bred to be effective over 6-8f and likely to do better in handicaps. Second run was better than her debut and she is bred to do better still; each-way shout. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (13/8 +68%)Chhota Saab |
13/8(+68%) | (1) Chhota Saab 13/8, Bit below form when beaten 7 1/2l in a nursery at Chelmsford last time, not staying the trip; had been in good form prior. Blinkers go on for the first time; trainer in form. Effective at 6f, drop in trip may help but looks vulnerable in this novice. Failed to fire on nursery debut three weeks ago (7f); drops in trip with blinkers added. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (14/1 -115%)Evenepoel |
14/1(-115%) | (2) Evenepoel 14/1, 18 Jan; £22,000 Elzaam gelding; half-brother to King's Crown, smart at 6f; dam very useful at 7f at 2yo; could have a say in a weak race on debut. £22,000 half-brother to two winners; dam a 7f AW winner; stable run three here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (2/1 +11%)Cryingintherain |
2/1(+11%) | (6) Cryingintherain 2/1, Modest debut after early interference when beaten 8l in a novice at Southwell; off a short break. Should be effective at 6/7f but improvement is required. Didn't live up to market billing on Southwell debut eight weeks ago (6f); can do better. |

20/1(-43%) | (3) Hardstyle 20/1, Improved on a modest debut when beaten 10l in a novice at Wolverhampton last time; bred to sprint and needs to show more. Modest form in two Tapeta maidens last month; handicaps should be more suitable after this. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (80/1 -344%)Lieutenant Sir |
80/1(-344%) | (4) Lieutenant Sir 80/1, Too far back to land a blow in a fast-run race when beaten 7 1/4l in a novice at Wolverhampton last time; should be effective at 5/6f but yet to show any reliable form. Big prices and well beaten in two Wolverhampton runs, the latest on Saturday; no appeal. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (7) (150/1 -436%)Dawn Melody |
150/1(-436%) | (7) Dawn Melody 150/1, Produced a better effort down in trip when beaten 8l in a novice at Windsor last time; returning from a break. Yet to find ideal conditions and hard to fancy. Poor form in her five turf starts; no appeal on AW debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

This isn't the deepest novice race that will take place over the winter period and it presents a fine opportunity to BLUE NGURU. The daughter of Blue Point has produced a consistent level of form across her four career starts and dropping to the minimum trip could be the making of her. Chhota Saab arrives with a chance, while market support for newcomer Evenepoel would be noteworthy.

Pilgrim's Progress and CRYINGINTHRAIN appeal as potential improvers and the selection can leave her debut run well behind her.

Improved effort when 3rd of 12 over C&D two weeks ago; open to further progress; contender. |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

4/1(+33%) | (1) Al Bowlly 4/1, 7 Mar; 40,000gns A'Ali colt; half-brother to Jojo Rabbit, useful over 5f including at 2yo; good yard but probably best watched on debut. 40,000gns half-brother to winning sprinter Jojo Rabbit; market can guide. |

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

It was a costly defeat for supporters of ONLY IN MANILA at Kempton a fortnight ago but the son of Victor Ludorum sets a fair standard nonetheless. The youngster might improve for the addition of first-time cheekpieces too and, if doing so, he can reward those who keep the faith. Spirit Of Athene hit the frame over C&D latest and commands respect in receipt of the fillies' allowance, whilst Chelio appeals most of the remainder.

This looks a good opportunity for ONLY IN MANILA to get off the mark. Spirit Of Athene is feared most.

28/1(+15%) | (4) Wind Summer 28/1, Yet to show any real signs of ability and returns from a short break. Bred for 7f or further and type to do better in handicaps. Poor form in two sprint runs this autumn; should be suited by the longer trip at least. |

1/3(+87%) | (2) Free Your Spirit 1/3, 10 Feb; £40,000 Starman colt; half-brother to several winner, including Cervetto, useful at 7f and Love De Vega, effective 6-8f; one to consider in a weak race on debut. £40,000 half-brother to three winners; starts out in a modest race; interesting newcomer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (33/1 -65%)Living In Hope |
33/1(-65%) | (7) Living In Hope 33/1, Moderate debut when well beaten in a maiden at Kempton on only start. Should be effective at 8f or further but needs much more. 33-1 for last month's debut and always behind after a sluggish start; bred to do better. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

It is far from a daunting standard set by those with experience, so it might pay to side with newcomer FREE YOUR SPIRIT. The Starman colt, who fetched 40,000 pounds as a yearling, is related to a couple of decent milers and would not need to be anything special in order to make an instant impact. Roserunner (fifth) and Cranachan (sixth) were well held at Kempton but could improve.

Newcomer Free Your Spirit appeals on paper but CRANACHAN may leave his recent Kempton debut well behind him.

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (33/1 +18%)Adelaide Bay |

33/1(-50%) | (4) Comedian Leader 33/1, Returned from a break when well below form in a Kempton handicap most recently; had been in good form prior; effective from 6f to 8f and acts on all-weather; more needed off this mark. Two turf wins here in August but she struggled on reappearance at Kempton last week. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

ME TARZAN is a model of consistency and is fancied to go very close having been freshened up following a couple of quick runs in October. He's won over 7f on the turf here before and it won't be long before he's back in the winning groove. Way To Dubai certainly has a race of this nature within his compass and he's noted along with Dashing Donkey.

The vote goes to ENPASSANT who returned to form with a close third at Wolverhampton and is a big player if he can back that up.

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (15/2 +12%)Great Bedwyn |
15/2(+12%) | (1) Great Bedwyn 15/2, Ran to form when beaten 4 1/4l in a handicap at Wolverhampton last time; effective from 12f to 14f and acts on any going except very testing; capable off this mark. On dangerous mark but he's not easy to predict and his last three wins have been on turf. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (80/1 -142%)Extra Beat |
80/1(-142%) | (5) Extra Beat 80/1, Showed little when well beaten from off the pace in a handicap here latest; effective from 10f to 12f; could build on his stable debut. Unexposed 4yo but he's struggled in last two runs and needs to get back on track. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

MERSEA ISLAND must shoulder a 6lb penalty for scoring at Wolverhampton last week, but is very difficult to oppose. The penny has dropped now for Charlie Johnston's charge and the three-year-old is taken to continue on an upward trajectory. If the likely favourite fails to fire, then Brasil Power and Veraison will be there to pounce as they're in decent nick too.

This can go to the progressive MERSEA ISLAND who won by 4l at Wolverhampton last week and looks well treated under a penalty.

18/5(-3%) | (6) My Boy Harry 18/5, Scored by a length off 49 at Kempton in October; late headway down in trip last time; effective 7/8f, acts on GF and AW; respected. The race wasn't run to suit last week and his earlier course second (1m) reads well enough. |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (33/1 +18%)Mighty Ruler |
33/1(+18%) | (5) Mighty Ruler 33/1, Failed to stay when beaten 9 1/4l in a handicap here last time. Effective at 6f and acts on the all-weather. His mark is falling but he needs to show more. Dropped a long way in the weights this year but he hasn't looked like taking advantage. |

9th (8) (4/1 +11%)Chloe's Courage |
4/1(+11%) | (8) Chloe's Courage 4/1, Returned to form in first-time blinkers, winning a Chelmsford handicap by 2 1/2l off 45 with a bit in hand. Effective at 6/8f and acts on the all-weather. A 6lb rise demands more. Blinkers prompted improvement at Chelmsford two weeks ago; respected up 6lb. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

Connections of CHLOE'S COURAGE have found their filly another very winnable opportunity as she bids to confirm the promise of her recent Chelmsford success. Runner-up over C&D three starts ago, the switch to this venue shouldn't be a problem and there might be more improvement in her. Impulse Buy heads the list of dangers from course third Fulford Cross and My Boy Harry.

My Boy Harry and Naval Ensign are high on the list but CHLOE'S COURAGE won decisively last time and can defy the handicapper.

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (6) (40/1 -21%)Saint Terry |
40/1(-21%) | (6) Saint Terry 40/1, Showed little from off the pace when well beaten in a novice at Salisbury latest. Usually held up and yet to find suitable conditions; difficult to fancy despite this being his handicap debut. Unexposed 4yo but he needs a transformation on handicap debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

VILLALOBOS will have plenty of supporters in this handicap finale, and rightly so because he's been in good form at this venue. A C&D winner two starts ago, he's since posted a neck second over the same track and trip so is difficult to get away from. Semser might represent a bit of each-way value and is noted along with Bear To Dream.

It's hard to get away from VILLALOBOS, who was only just caught in his bid for a C&D double last week and is 1lb lower here.
Ths is the racecard key.
