1st (2) (1/4 +31%)Tiptoptim |
1/4(+31%) | (2) Tiptoptim 1/4, From a yard that won this race last year. Ran second, beaten 1 1/4l, in a 2m maiden hurdle at Uttoxeter on good ground last time. Effective over 2m and should improve over further on hurdling form, as suggested by point-to-point efforts. Point/bumper winner; clear second to a subsequent Chelteham winner on hurdle debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (13/2 -30%)Freshers Week |
13/2(-30%) | (1) Freshers Week 13/2, Produced a very promising debut when winning a novice hurdle at Market Rasen by 3/4l, benefitting from a decent test. Effective over 2 1/2m and likely to progress, with the step up in trip expected to suit. Won tactical, four-runner Market Rasen novice on recent hurdle debut; carries penalty here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (11/2 +0%)Hopeless Dancer |
11/2(+0%) | (3) Hopeless Dancer 11/2, Raced a bit freely but ran to form when second, beaten 3l, in an Amateurs' bumper over 2m at Ffos Las last time. Needs to find plenty more. Placed in all three bumpers and ought to give another good account on hurdle debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

With a small field tactics could be key here, and that points the way to HOPELESS DANCER, who may get an easy time on the front. Freshers Week arrives unbeaten after winning a point-to-point and making a successful debut over hurdles, but his jumping needs improvement and he has to give weight away to all of his rivals. Tiptoptim also has claims if his stamina holds out over this trip.

With the form of last month's Uttoxeter second having worked out very well in the meantime, TIPTOPTIM gets the nod.

1st (3) (7/4 -27%)Ocean Conquest |
7/4(-27%) | (3) Ocean Conquest 7/4, Outpaced but rallied and ran to form when benefiting from a drop in grade to win a novice hurdle here over 2m by a neck last time. Effective at 2m, acts on good ground but is suited by some cut, and should stay further. Won recent 2m novice here; needs a bigger effort today but may still have potential. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (11/2 -22%)Diplomatie |
11/2(-22%) | (1) Diplomatie 11/2, Never travelled and had no obvious excuse when well beaten in a handicap hurdle over 2m4f at Bangor-on-Dee last time. Cheekpieces are applied for the first time. The trainer is in form and she's effective at 2½m, acting on good to firm, good and good to soft ground. Consistent until that latest effort. Close second over C&D last month but well held since; recent rain a worry. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (25/1 -25%)Collingham |
25/1(-25%) | (4) Collingham 25/1, Pulled up in a handicap chase over 2m4f at Worcester last time after a short break. Could be competitive if back to form. Not at best for current stable since the summer; reverts to hurdling with a point to prove. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (28/1 -12%)Cotton End |
28/1(-12%) | (6) Cotton End 28/1, Fell in a novice event over 3m at Cothelstone last time and was regressive when last seen under rules Has poor completion rate in points since last rules run in spring 2024; too risky. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (13/2 -8%)Sam's Amour |
13/2(-8%) | (2) Sam's Amour 13/2, Never threatened and ran slightly below form when well beaten in a handicap hurdle over 2m7f at Worcester last time. May have more to offer at 3m. Gave good account when second at Newton Abbot in July and is versatile ground-wise. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|RR| (5) (5/4 +55%)Melton Mossy |
5/4(+55%) | (5) Melton Mossy 5/4, Won this race last year. Had too much to do behind an all-the-way winner when down in trip, conceding race fitness and beaten 3¼l off 104 over 2m4f at Ffos Las last time. Usually held up, effective between 2½m and 3m, and could build on that reappearance. Won this in 2024 and returns here after pleasing seasonal debut three weeks ago. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Collingham returns to hurdles after pulling up over fences at Worcester in August, but he has a good record over hurdles and enters the equation off his current mark. Cotton End intrigues returning from the point-to-point field and could surprise a few, but OCEAN CONQUEST is preferred. Upped in trip after winning by a neck here last month, the four-year-old can only improve for his first start in seven months.

Last year's winner MELTON MOSSY (nap) made an encouraging seasonal reappearance last month and remains on a workable mark.

1st (3) (10/11 +60%)Treasure Planet |
10/11(+60%) | (3) Treasure Planet 10/11, Raced a bit too freely but ran well to a point when fourth, beaten 13l in a juvenile hurdle at Chepstow on debut; stays 12f on the Flat and acts on yielding and good ground; should progress over hurdles for a leading yard. Displayed clear promise on both Irish Flat starts and when fourth on stable/hurdle debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (1/1 -125%)Mojito Des Mottes |
1/1(-125%) | (1) Mojito Des Mottes 1/1, Made a promising debut when winning by 3/4l in a juvenile hurdle over 2m2f at Moulins; trainer in good form. Wears a tongue-tie for the first time. Effective at around 2m1f and handles cut; joined top connections after that French success, potentially useful. Drew clear of the others with a subsequent Listed chase winner on debut in France. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (33/1 -175%)Modern Style |
33/1(-175%) | (2) Modern Style 33/1, Showed greenness and was well beaten in a novice over 10f at Kempton on sole start; has plenty to prove starting out over hurdles. Bred to be a smart Flat racer; offloaded by Godolphin after very disappointing debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (4) (50/1 +0%)Rosso Levanto |
50/1(+0%) | (4) Rosso Levanto 50/1, Stopped quickly and was comfortably held in a handicap over 1m6f at Southwell last time; difficult to fancy on that evidence. Out of sorts in low-grade Flat handicaps lately; switches to hurdling with lots to prove. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

MOJITO DES MOTTES won his only start in France at Moulins and debuts for Ben Pauling after being purchased by J P McManus. That form has been franked with the runner-up winning his next three starts by wide margins, and he could prove to be an astute purchase. Treasure Planet represents Paul Nicholls, whose horses are beginning to hit top form, and he could prove a danger in receipt of 7lb, leaving the ex-Godolphin owned Modern Style as next best.

Ben Pauling's new recruit MOJITO DES MOTTES beat a rival who has quickly developed into a useful chaser when winning in France.

EASY BUCKS, who was hampered by a faller when he unseated at Listowel before enduring further misfortune with a relatively soft fall at Hexham last time, could be the answer if negotiating a trouble-free run this time. The small field can help the selection and he can make the most receiving 10lb from his likely main rival, Minniemum. The betting market can guide regarding Concetto, who is a four-time chase winner on his first start after wind surgery.

Back over a far more suitable trip than on her reappearance at Chepstow, MINNIEMUM can make it 3-5 over fences.

PARK PRINCESS looked a bright prospect when she was the ready winner of a Newbury bumper in December 2023 before notching a creditable fourth in a Listed race at Market Rasen. Last seen when tilted at the 2024 Nickel Coin bumper at Aintree, this well-bred mare is an intriguing contender resuming from a break on her hurdles debut. Mighty Fleur and Lady Kara are the pick of those with jumping experience but could prove vulnerable if the selection starts to fulfil her potential.

If PARK PRINCESS is sufficiently straight to do herself justice then this useful bumper performer could be too smart for these.

Most of these fail to inspire confidence with only a speculative vote going the way of L'EMPIRE VERT. Sheila Lewis' charge finished a close second over hurdles at Ffos Las in March and is likely to prove competitive if producing a similar effort back over the larger obstacles. Formel Park has placed off higher marks over timber and makes more appeal than Outback Frontiers on her chasing bow.

Most of the runners have lots to prove and this looks difficult but OUTBACK FRONTIERS gets the vote ahead of Formel Park.

This contest looks to be between the Huntingdon winner BANKATARY and the runner-up Crack Ops. The former is penalised for that debut success, but gave the strong impression there was plenty more left in the locker, and James Owen's charge is taken to go in again. Faithful Guardian's dam is related to a winning hurdler among others and, with Alan King's yard in such fine form, he makes more appeal than fellow newcomer Captain Mainwaring.

Even with the penalty there's a good chance that BANKATARY can confirm Huntingdon places with runner-up Crack Ops.
Ths is the racecard key.
