14:30 Musselburgh (Class 4) 7f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Supreme Clarets and Born A Star both qualify for handicap marks after this and wouldn't go up in the rating by much were either to be successful. However, SPIRIT OF THE WOOD's third-placed finish over C&D on his debut was a promising start and that experience of this venue could give the Iain Jardine-trained colt a valuable edge back here. Suddenly I See and Yorkshire Queen are interesting newcomers to monitor in the betting.

Having had just one race arguably gives SPIRIT OF THE WOOD more scope for improvement than the twice-raced Supreme Clarets.

15:00 Musselburgh (Class 6) 5f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

TWIST OR STICK has posted her best efforts when racing on the front end and she can use her early speed to capitalise on a lowly rating for her third start in a nursery. Havin A Flyer has course experience and wouldn't need to find much to be thereabouts in this company. Tenor's Inn's recent fourth at Beverley also reads well in the context of this race, especially as he was well on top of Dinamo (ninth) at the line.

Preference is for TWIST OR STICK, who has shown clear promise with her two front-running efforts in nurseries.

15:30 Musselburgh (Class 6) 8f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

SHIELAS WELL found herself stretched by racing over 1m4f at Ripon most recently and looks well worth another chance cutting back in distance. A previous course winner off 1lb lower, Grant Tuer's filly could have a big impact on these terms and may provide a bit of value in a wide-open race. Redcar winner Marry The Night is an obvious danger off just 2lb higher, while Amidst The Chaos is unexposed in handicaps and notably drops in class after his surprise win at Doncaster.

Ready preference is for AMIDST THE CHAOS (nap) who raised his game to win his handicap debut recently and is probably still learning.

16:00 Musselburgh (Class 4) 18f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Although track winner Simple Star merits respect in his follow-up bid, he has yet to convince with his stamina over this far. With that in mind, LUNAR POWER may eclipse his rivals. The seven-year-old arrives on the back of a C&D second and a 1lb nudge up in the ratings looks workable. Paper Doll regained the winning thread at Carlisle recently and may give the selection most to think about.

Competitive, with the complicating factor that a sound pace cannot be guaranteed. TROJAN SUN is preferred to Stand Strong.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

Having landed a gamble at Redcar in June, there could be more to come from FRONT GUNNER. This looks a suitable opportunity for the four-year-old to go in again and he's taken to take a 2lb rise in his stride. Keep Me Stable was denied in her bid for a fourth win in succession when finishing third at Ayr earlier this month, but must enter calculations in his current vein of form, with Monhammer also of interest.

Linda Perratt's two runners may be the principals, with KEEP ME STABLE slightly preferred to Monhammer.

17:05 Musselburgh (Class 6) 5f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

A drop back in distance proved just the trick for recent Hamilton winner Thunderstorm Katie and she must enter the reckoning. However, a 5lb penalty does demand another career best from Jim Goldie's filly and MATCH PLAY may have her measure. This represents a drop in class for the five-year-old and a repeat of his latest second at Yarmouth may prove sufficient. Royal Duke and Zuffolo are others to consider.

This provides a slightly different test but THUNDERSTORM KATIE is on a roll and may make this her fourth win in five her last starts.
