The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

HARBOUR ISLAND won two bumpers last season before chasing home the exciting Mydaddypaddy on his hurdling debut at Carlisle earlier in the month. Based on that evidence, Olly Murphy's gelding appears to be the safest pick in a competitive event. Act Of Innocence was fourth in a Listed bumper here in February and won at Taunton the following month. He has to be noted on his debut for Nicky Henderson, while Sinnatra completes the shortlist.

An interesting race in which recent C&D runner-up SINNATRA gets the vote ahead of Harbour Island and Act Of Innocence.

First past the post over hurdles here last term; switch to fences could prompt improvement. |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (11/2 -22%)Palacio |
11/2(-22%) | (3) Palacio 11/2, Did it cosily and proved well treated on hurdle form, improving on chase debut when winning a handicap by 8 1/2l off 119 at Chepstow last time; trainer in form; effective at 2m and on soft or good ground; more to come over fences. Impressive on chase debut at Chepstow; 8lb rise might not stop him if he can back that up. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

MAMBONUMBERFIVE created a big impression when making a winning debut over fences at Aintree three weeks ago and Ben Pauling's four-year-old can defy a 5lb higher mark on this occasion. Palacio bolted up on his fencing bow at Chepstow and he should not be underestimated. Most of the remainder also have claims, but Secret Des Dieux and Captain Bellamy are the pick of them.

The 4yo MAMBONUMBERFIVE created a good impression on his Aintree chase debut and this sizeable sort could have plenty more in the tank.

Returns from a short break and looks difficult to fancy starting out over hurdles. Runner-up in AW seller on sole Flat run; probably best watched in hot race on hurdle debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.

HIGHLAND CRYSTAL could hardly have been more impressive when winning on her racecourse bow at Punchestown a couple of weeks ago and Gordon Elliott's filly may be hard to stop, despite this step up in grade. Kate O'Riley was not disgraced when third against geldings in a Grade 2 at Cheltenham recently and she is likely to be in the mix once again. Others to consider are Tralee Girl, Sopelana and Wonderfulwonderful.

Gordon Elliott won this in 2023 with recent Ascot Hurdle winner Wodhooh and his HIGHLAND CRYSTAL is a highly likeable prospect.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.

Wendigo may have been pipped by Wade Out on his chasing debut at Worcester, but that form looks better in hindsight thanks to the winner following up in Listed company. The smart six-year-old was ahead of REGENT'S STROLL when beating all bar The New Lion in last year's Challow, but Paul Nicholls' expensive purchase improved as the season went on and was only just denied in Grade 1 company at Aintree. Better is expected of him now he tackles fences and the stable won this with a chasing newcomer two years ago. Kingston Pride is another force to be reckoned with.

Grade 1 novice hurdle runner-up REGENT'S STROLL gets the nod on his chase debut, while Kingston Pride could be the main danger.

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (11/4 +45%)Heltenham |
11/4(+45%) | (4) Heltenham 11/4, Yard has won two of the last ten renewals; ran to form when 7¼l third in a handicap chase over 2m3f at Wetherby on latest start; effective around 2m4f, acts on good to soft and good; on winning mark, goes well at Newbury and could step up again. Easily completed four-timer at Ffos Las; much tougher task today but he's clearly thriving. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (10/1 +17%)Western General |
10/1(+17%) | (5) Western General 10/1, Outpaced and needed the run when well beaten in a Premier Handicap Chase over 2m1f at Ascot last time; trainer in form; effective at 2m, best with cut; could be ready to step back up in trip but mark looks stiff. May have needed his reappearance run and he's not ruled out with yard in excellent form. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.

Filanderer picked up where he left off last term when strolling away from his Ffos Las rivals, but he faces a different calibre of opponent and must compete from out of the handicap. Telepathique is 20lb higher than when last seen in handicap company, while American Mike hasn't lived up to the expectations set by beating Fact To File two years ago, although the switch to Olly Murphy could help rejuvenate him. Heltenham showed more at Wetherby and has had wind surgery since, but TWINJETS had him 12 lengths back in third when making a successful comeback at Fontwell and can go in again.

Course specialist HELTENHAM (nap) returns to action following a wind op and is the selection ahead of Filanderer.

6th (3) (18/1 +10%)Ahoy Senor |
18/1(+10%) | (3) Ahoy Senor 18/1, A dual Grade 1 winner who needed the run when comfortably held in the Old Roan Limited Handicap Chase (Grade 2) over 2m4f at Aintree last time. Enjoys making the running and looks a value selection on overall form. Big shout if transferring best chase form but this 10yo is winless since January 2023. |

|F| (4) (14/1 +58%)Botox Has |
14/1(+58%) | (4) Botox Has 14/1, Ran below form with no obvious excuse when well beaten in a Grade 2 hurdle over 2m6f at Auteuil last time. Effective at 3m and prefers plenty of cut, but not as good as he was and looks vulnerable at this level. Two Grade 2 wins in 2023-24 campaign but not at his best last season; others preferred. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.

Strong Leader made a successful return to action in this last year and has a run under his belt this time after his Wetherby win. He had to dig deep to deny Take No Chances, though, and Doddiethegreat wasn't that far behind them. IMPOSE TOI could be an exciting new addition to the staying hurdling division because he handled the step up to an extended 3m with aplomb at Aintree. Last season's Coral Cup runner-up could have even more to offer and gets a handy 6lb from Strong Leader.

Last year's winner Strong Leader holds strong claims once more but concedes 6lb to rising star IMPOSE TOI, who can capitalise.

Stays well on the Flat and this step up in trip is well worth exploring; respected. |

|PU| (5) (4/1 +20%)Diamond Ri |
4/1(+20%) | (5) Diamond Ri 4/1, Ran to form when second beaten 2¼l in a novice hurdle over 2m4f at Cheltenham. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (12/1 -33%)Thunder Rock |
12/1(-33%) | (2) Thunder Rock 12/1, Below form when well beaten in a handicap hurdle over 2m5f at Ayr, having made too much use of a chasing stablemate. The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

Harry Cobden has struck up a good partnership with J J Moon and the six-year-old made a successful handicap debut at Newton Abbot, but BLUE CARPET is the one who steps outside of maiden/novice company now and has any amount for scope for improvement. He hardly broke sweat to land the odds at Wetherby and an initial mark of 118 seems generous. Diamond Ri remains a smart prospect and returns from the sidelines for an in-form stable, while Thunder Rock is well treated in this sphere and can go well fresh.

This could go to topweight CLASSIC KING, who may well have untapped potential over staying trips. Diamond Ri is a danger.
Ths is the racecard key.
