|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (14/1 -17%)Watamu |
14/1(-17%) | (9) Watamu 14/1, Made a promising debut when flattening out late after racing freely and finishing fourth, beaten 9l in a novice hurdle here; effective at 2m on good to soft ground and should improve if settling better with experience. 1-1 in bumpers; shaped nicely on hurdling debut; completely unexposed and should do better. |

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.

Kingston Queen denied Charisma Cat by a neck when landing Listed honours in a Market Rasen bumper and stretched that superiority when third in Grade 2 company at Aintree. She beat a subsequent winner on her hurdling debut at Chepstow, but so did LA CONQUIERE on her jumping bow at Uttoxeter and Jamie Snowden's mare was actually in front of Kingston Queen at the Grand National meeting. Whimsy has picked up minor money behind geldings in a couple of Irish Grade 3 contests, while a special mention must go to Clondaw Park, who cost 320,000 pounds after landing an Irish point.

Top of the list is KINGSTON QUEEN who was impressive on her hurdling debut at Chepstow. La Conquiere is feared most.

|PU| (7) (6/1 +33%)Brave Kingdom |
6/1(+33%) | (7) Brave Kingdom 6/1, Yard has won two of the last ten runnings of this race. Pulled up in a handicap chase over 3m at Uttoxeter last time and returns from a long layoff. Enjoys making the running and looks a value selection on balance of form having dropped in the weights. 9yo who is very lightly raced but has had five wins; good record fresh and at this track. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (12/1 -200%)Scarface |
12/1(-200%) | (3) Scarface 12/1, Travelled well but flattened out late up in trip back from a break, probably not staying when second beaten 9½l in the Badger Beers Handicap Chase over 3m1f at Wincanton last time. The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.

BOOSTER BOB didn't do too much wrong during his first chasing campaign and signed off with a victory in the Greatwood Gold Cup here. The runner-up filled the same position in the Paddy Power Gold Cup, while the third has won twice since and finished second in the Haldon Gold Cup, so the form is strong. Scarface got closest to the all-the-way winner of the Badger Beers, while Wiseguy's form tapered off after landing this prize 12 months ago but returns on just a 2lb higher figure. Hunter Legend, Eyed and Leader In The Park are also worth a look.

King's Threshold is second choice behind EYED, who made great advances last term as a chaser and could be set for better still.

Effective at 2m–2m1f and acts on good to soft; carries a penalty but may have more to offer if turned out again quickly. 22/1(-83%) | (4) Grand Garcon 22/1, From a yard that has won three of the last five runnings of this race. Green and needed the run when third, beaten 26l, in a 2m maiden hurdle at Chepstow most recently. Effective at 2m; should improve with experience, and the longer trip may suit. Placed at Chepstow in bumper and maiden hurdle, remote 3rd in latter to exciting prospect. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

Kalkbrenner had Klimt Madrik back in fourth when making a successful timber debut at Ffos Las but, as is the case with Fontwell scorer Kocktail Bleu, he has to give weight to some useful prospects. Grand Garcon made the frame behind the exciting Sober Glory at Chepstow, while hurdling newcomers Walk Tall and Kiwi Rush have to enter the equation. BUDDY HOLLY also tackles hurdles for the first time and has joined Nicky Henderson since a decent effort at the Punchestown Festival - a move which could help inspire the necessary improvement.

Assessing the degrees of promise is tricky but KLIMT MADRIK might just spring a surprise from under the radar.

100/1(-150%) | (12) Benign Dictator 100/1, Showed improved effort off a break, possibly idled late, and handled the ground here when beaten ¾l off 122 over 2m4f at Uttoxeter last time. The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.

FRENCH SHIP showed no ill effects from a fall at Chepstow when scoring in fine style at Cheltenham last month. Open to further improvement, the five-year-old remains of interest, despite an 8lb rise. Lud'or romped home at Bangor when making a winning handicap debut. He should prove competitive in this tougher contest, while Personal Ambition looks fairly treated off his current mark and East India Express could bounce back to form representing last year's winning yard.

Having been thoroughly dominant at Bangor on his handicap debut, LUD'OR is preferred. French Ship is second pick.

50/1(0%) | (4) Col Du Pre' 50/1, Ran to form when fourth, beaten 14l, in a juvenile hurdle over 2m2f at Auteuil last time. Returning from a long layoff; effective at 2m and with cut; French hurdles winner who has more to come for this yard but needs to defy a demanding mark. Ex-French 4yo; hard to assess on British debut but market support would be significant. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.

Indemnity's second at Ascot to subsequent Greatwood hero Alexei looks better in hindsight. He's worthy of serious consideration, along with last month's Cheltenham winner Give It To Me Oj, but LIVE CONTI makes most appeal. Dan Skelton's charge coped well when upped to Grade 1 company at Aintree in April, finishing a creditable second in the Anniversary 4-Y-O Juvenile Hurdle. That augurs well for his first start in a handicap and he could prove better than his opening mark.

Indemnity's Ascot form looks strong but slight preference is for INDEEVAR BLEU who cruised home on his handicap debut.

Despite a 15lb hike for a runaway success in the Ultima at Cheltenham, there is every chance MYRETOWN could still be a step ahead of the handicapper. Lucinda Russell hasn't hidden her belief that the eight-year-old may be one of the best she has trained, even talking of a potential Gold Cup bid if all goes well here. There were plenty of positives to take from Resplendent Grey's reappearance success in the Colin Parker at Carlisle. He travelled a lot sweeter through that contest than had been the case on a few occasions last season, especially over a trip shorter than ideal, and the bet365 Gold Cup hero seems to have had the perfect preparation. The Changing Man bids to continue the excellent run of Joe Tizzard's stable, with first-time cheekpieces potentially aiding his cause. Others to note in a highly-competitive renewal include Gold Cup fourth Monty's Star, Hyland and Gorgeous Tom.

This may well prove a carbon copy of the Ultima, with MYRETOWN (nap) taken to confirm placings with The Changing Man.

Wide-margin winner at Perth in April; will need a career best to defy top weight. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (10) (12/1 +52%)Abingworth |
12/1(+52%) | (10) Abingworth 12/1, Made mistakes, raced keenly and needed the run when fourth beaten 23l in a handicap chase over 2m4f at Wincanton last time; effective at around 2½m on good ground; had a productive spring but errors have crept back in. 5-18 over fences but often let down by jumping; well held last time and this is warmer. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

Last year's winner GENERAL MEDRANO seems to have been laid out for this contest once again. Emma Lavelle's charge made a pleasing reappearance when fourth in a good handicap at Ascot and a 1lb drop appears to be fair. Rare Edition bumped into a very well-handicapped rival at Kelso who has since won twice, including the Haldon Gold Cup. Conditions are definitely in his favour and he commands the utmost respect. Similar comments apply to Rath Gaul Hill, who is 2-2 over C&D and has gone well fresh.

Last year's winner General Medrano arrives after a similar preparation but even more persuasive is the unexposed RATH GAUL HILL.
Ths is the racecard key.
