SOL CAYO, who won a nursery off this mark on his final start as a juvenile in November 2022, was a comfortable winner over C&D last month and can give another bold showing in his attempt to follow up off a 7lb higher mark. Although on paper this is a step up in class, today's opposition doesn't appear to be any deeper and he could be up to giving weight and a beating to these rivals. Lerwick is feared most, with the C&D hat-trick seeking Midnight Lion respected despite stepping up in grade.

SOL CAYO scored in convincing fashion here last time and isn't handicapped out of it off his reassessed mark, so he gets the nod ahead of Alpine Sierra, who wasn't seen to best effect behind Midnight Lion on New Year's Day. Midnight Lion is a definite player if allowed another soft lead.

Top of the list is SOL CAYO, who has form figures of 2121 in Tapeta handicaps and was an emphatic winner over C&D last time.

DASH GORDON, who has had a wind surgery since winning over C&D in October, still has plenty of scope for progression and could be hard to beat in this classified stakes if he picks up where he left off last season. A fellow track-and-trip winner, Ballyare is dangerous to rule out on these terms, while Doon The Glen runs for an in-form yard/jockey combination and can also figure if he settles better now he has some experience of racing with blinkers added.

LADY OF THE GARR is consistent and should be sharper for her latest effort, so she gets the narrow vote over Dash Gordon, who makes his debut for Mick Appleby after scoring on his final outing for Alex French. Blackcurrent isn't without hope.

Preference is for the lightly raced 4yo DASH GORDON, who won over C&D in October and is open to more progress for his new connections.

There is a lot to like about the chance held by STUDIOUS, who overcame an awkward start to win going away over the extended mile at Wolverhampton 12 days ago. The three-year-old was in full fight when he hit the furlong marker on that occasion, which bodes well for him revering to today's trip off and a 6lb rise may not halt him. Sweet Cicely belied her long odds when second at Wolverhampton latest and is another to note on just her second start in a handicap. Cuban Lynx and Penelope Valentine complete the shortlist.

This can go the way of STUDIOUS who created a good impression when going in at Wolverhampton after a gelding operation and can make light of a 6 lb rise. Sweet Cicely appeals as the one to chase him home on the back of his excellent Wolverhampton second, with Cuban Lynx and Penelope Valentine also in the mix.

Preference is for SWEET CICELY (nap) who improved for the step up to 7f when runner-up on nursery debut at Wolverhampton last month.

ARANTES NASCIMENTO showed much more on his first start following wind surgery last month, when finishing a narrow second over this C&D. A 2lb rise in the handicap should be no barrier to success based on his past exploits and, from a handy draw, he is taken to go one place better. Lahab couldn't quite reel in the leaders over 6f recently but a return to further should benefit him, while Streak Lightning was second to a progressive sort last time out and is also noted.

Lots with chances but the vote goes to ARANTES NASCIMENTO who took a step forward on the back of a wind operation when a very good second over C&D and can go one better here. Bobby Joe Leg is weighted to have a big say and next on the list ahead of in-form duo Streak Lightning and Lahab.

Several have possibilities but ARANTES NASCIMENTO looked unlucky over C&D last time and he gets the vote ahead of Streak Lightning.

Pacifist (second) had the measure of BAIKAL (fifth) when the pair met at Kempton last month, but the latter saw sustained market support and was sent off as favourite that day. Sir Mark Prescott's filly ought to have learnt plenty from that debut experience, so it would come as no surprise were she able to reverse the form. Lechuga Lad, who was also unable to justify favouritism on his debut, must now concede a weight-for-age allowance to all his rivals and Charlie Johnston's newcomer Wadacre Moriarty might be the bigger threat.

BAIKAL was caught further back than ideal when fifth on her Kempton debut last month and will have learnt plenty from that. She can get off the mark. Pacifist looks the obvious danger.

Another chance is given to LECHUGA LAD who was sent off a warm favourite when well held on his debut over C&D last month.

NOVAK accounted for a few of these when scoring over C&D 10 days ago and the six-year-old could be hard to stop once again, despite a 4lb rise. Wee Fat Mac was third on that occasion and it would be no surprise to see him in the mix, while Beale Street edges out Showtime Mahomes to be best of the rest.

BEALE STREET boasts a good record at this course and still looks on a workable mark. He gets the nod in a tricky-looking contest. Showtime Mahomes and Novak are feared most.

Another chance is given to SHOWTIME MAHOMES who may have had an excuse here last time and looked unfortunate the time before.

In a race where plenty have questions to answer, it is hard to oppose the recent C&D winner BRAZILIAN ROSE. The four-year-old remains unexposed and a 5lb rise may underestimate the daughter of Calyx. Dazy Mazy has not been beaten far in two starts here in recent months and could prove to be the main threat, ahead of Miami Hills and Giselles Izzy.

This could be messy with not much pace on paper. The lightly-raced BRAZILIAN ROSE is the most interesting runner having won well over C&D 9 days ago. She can follow up that victory at the expense of Emily Post, who wasn't ideally placed when disappointing last time, and Giselles Izzy, who was too keen when finishing fourth at this track last week.

The unexposed BRAZILIAN ROSE did it nicely when winning over C&D nine days ago and she can defy a 5lb rise.
Ths is the racecard key.
