Jim Goldie is on for one of his best ever seasons as a trainer and his placement here of AYR POET looks ideal as he bids to defy a 4lb rise to follow up his Musselburgh success 15 days ago. Having been placed on three of his six previous runs at this course, reverting to Tapeta shouldn't be an issue and another bold showing can be expected. Previous course winners Prince Achille and Urban Road can give the selection plenty of think about.

AYR POET landed a gamble at Musselburgh a fortnight ago and can follow up. Prince Achille can show more now back at Newcastle and is feared, as is Deauville, who wasn't subjected to a hard time returning from a long absence recently. Glasses Up also makes some appeal.

The vote goes to PRINCE ACHILLE who is 3-6 over C&D and is 2lb lower than when third in a better race here in May.

Although purchased cheaply, there is enough to like about the pedigree of ALWAYS ETERNAL to put her forward as a notable contender for this maiden on debut. A half-sister to Bulldog Drummond, who won over this C&D as a juvenile, this could be a good starting point for the Twilight Son filly, whose yard has done well with juveniles this season. Mu Mu Land appeals most of those with experience, ahead of Run To My Side.

MU MU LAND made a promising start at Beverley 6 weeks ago and has a good shout in this line-up with improvement on the way. He's preferred to Run To My Side, an eye-catcher first time up at Leicester, and newcomer Always Eternal.

Preference is for MU MU LAND who shaped as though this extra furlong would suit when a promising second at Beverley last month.

Last-time-out winners Jachin, Al Waseela and MINI MAC boast compelling claims. The former scored cosily over this trip in a Catterick maiden 10 days ago and is respected. However, the latter showed a very game attitude when getting off the mark under a calm ride from Billy Loughnane at Brighton and could have plenty more to give with cheekpieces added. Al Waseela is more exposed but cannot be ruled out.

MINI MAC opened his account at the second attempt at Brighton recently and can improve again now handicapping up in trip. He gets the vote over Yarmouth winner Al Waseela, Sherlock and Jachin in a competitive nursery.

The choice is AL WASEELA who seems to be progressing steadily and won in good style at Yarmouth a fortnight ago.

JEZ BOMB, now two from three on the all-weather following his recent Wolverhampton success, might be one to follow over the winter months and he's fancied to defy a further 3lb rise in the weights. Little Ted struck the woodwork over C&D earlier this month and must enter calculations, along with Barleybrown, who shoulders a penalty having cruised to victory over track and trip last Tuesday.

The trio that stand out here are MIDNIGHT'S DREAM, Barleybrown and Jez Bomb, in that order of preference. The first-named produced his best effort yet when a strong-finishing fifth in a steadily-run race at Kempton recently and, granted a decent pace to aim at here, this unexposed colt could be the answer. Barleybrown is feared most on the back of notching C&D win number four in good style last week.

This can go to BARLEYBROWN who is taken to record his fifth win over C&D this year. Billy Loughnane is 2-2 aboard him.

King's School lost out to an unexposed rival on his latest outing and a first career success doesn't look far away. BARNABY has improved tenfold since being switched to the all-weather, though, winning two on the bounce over C&D, and a 6lb penalty might not prevent him from completing the hat-trick. Beale Street is noted, as is Front Gunner, who steps up in class.

This looks a strong race for the grade, with MERESIDE MADNESS taken to record his third C&D win from 4 outings here having shaped well in a race that wasn't run to suit. Barnaby was a decisive scorer last week and he chases a quick-fire Newcastle hat-trick so he must be a danger, along with Beale Street.

A chance is taken with ARANTES NASCIMENTO who suggested a return to form here last time, shaping as though the return to 7f might suit.

MY CLOUD, a beaten odds-on favourite on each of his starts to date, will not get a better opportunity than this and the son of Blue Point can go in at the third time of asking. That said, George Boughey is no stranger to success with his debutants and Kingman gelding Tancredi makes more than enough appeal on paper to suggest he can be involved. Beautiful Girl can chase the pair home.

MY CLOUD has shown plenty to work on when runner-up on both of his starts 8 months apart and will struggle to find a better opportunity than this. Well-bred newcomer Tancredi looks the only realistic threat.

Newcomer Tancredi has the pedigree and it will be interesting to see how he goes in the betting but MY CLOUD ought to be too good.

Kitaab found himself with too much to do when a never-nearer third at Kempton last time out. Philip Kirby's gelding warrants respect in his current mood, but a 6lb higher rating could see him falling short of victory once again. With that in mind, last month's C&D third GOLDEN DUKE makes slightly more appeal. The son of Galileo Gold races off an unchanged mark and an overdue triumph may beckon. Buzz Box and Indivar are others to consider.

The in-form KITAAB should have followed up his C&D win at Kempton 18 days ago (left with too much to do) and is fancied to make amends. Low-mileage 3-y-o Buzz Box shaped encouragingly after 8 months off when fourth at Southwell and may emerge as the biggest threat ahead of Golden Duke.

The vote goes to KITAAB (nap) who won well over C&D at the start of the month and who did well to go so close at Kempton a week later.

TICKETS justified strong support in the market when making all over 7f here last week. A 5lb penalty and return to 6f shouldn't inconvenience Ben Haslam's inmate and a quick-fire double could be on the cards. The biggest threat may emerge from My Boy Jack, who has filled the runner-up berth on his last three outings. Shark Two One and Ana Emaraaty have the form to figure too.

MY BOY JACK is going through a good spell, just held only by a course specialist here last week, and gets the nod off the same mark. Ana Emaraaty was a good ¾-length second to Tickets over 7f here last week and may emerge as the biggest threat being 5 lb better off with the penalised Tickets this time.

This is very open but TICKETS has found form back on the AW for his new yard and can prove he is still well treated despite the penalty.

The introduction of a first-time hood with cheekpieces proved just the tonic for recent track-and-trip scorer QUERCUS. The son of Nayef scored a shade cosily and he looks capable of following up off a 4lb higher mark. Fellow in-form rival Gunnerside returns to the all-weather after some creditable efforts in defeat on the turf of late. Grant Tuer's seven-year-old may serve the most resistance to the selection, ahead of Noble Captain.

QUERCUS pulled clear with the runner-up when making all over C&D 2 weeks ago so is taken to defy a 4 lb rise. Gunnerside is edging back down the weights and is next best ahead of Noble Captain, who is working his way back.

Although QUERCUS won only narrowly over C&D last time he did look comfortable on the surface and fitting a hood seems to have helped.
Ths is the racecard key.
