HAPPY HELEN produced her best effort to date when fourth at Thirsk in August and an opening mark of 56 appears to be more than workable based on that performance. Alextrician has been running with credit on the all-weather and may well be a threat on his first outing on turf. Others capable of taking a step forward include Alice's Impact and Lady Of Time.

ALEXTRICIAN is the only one with reasonable recent form and is worth siding with in the hope that he's as effective on turf as AW. Happy Helen is bred to be better than a mark of 56 and worthy of interest first time in a handicap, while Lady of Time also has potential.

The filly HAPPY HELEN ran her best race of last season on her final start and she should improve for this longer distance.

INTERTWINED made a promising enough start when third at Newbury just under a fortnight ago when displaying signs of inexperience. With that outing under her belt, that piece of form arguably sets the standard and she wouldn't need to improve much to get off the mark. Bellasio is best judged on his debut second at Newcastle, having disappointed at the same venue on his only outing since, while Paborus completes the shortlist after his fourth on debut at Thirsk in August.

INTERTWINED showed more than enough on her recent debut at Newbury to suggest that a race of this nature will be within her reach. Having shaped well on his sole outing at 2 yrs, Paborus gets the nod ahead of the penalised pair Diligent Resdev and Roberto Caro for forecast purposes.

The race in which INTERTWINED shaped so well at Newbury was won in a good time by 1,000 Guineas contender Star Style.

NOT REAL was just denied on her racecourse debut at Kempton last month, having been outpaced at a crucial point, and the daughter of Kodiac has been found an excellent opportunity to open her account. Pendlebury Lane makes her first appearance since September 2022 and it seems notable that connections have kept her in training. She appears to be the likely main threat, with newcomer Highfield Heiress appealing most of the remainder.

NOT REAL shaped well having attracted strong support when runner-up at Kempton on debut and, provided the ground doesn't scupper her, she's fully expected to get off the mark at the second attempt provided Highfield Heiress isn't anything out of the ordinary first time out. Pendlebury Lane has a big absence to overcome but should do better at some point.

This weak race looks at the mercy of Kempton runner-up NOT REAL provided she copes okay with the conditions.

A highly-encouraging second on his return from a long break at Yarmouth last week, EXCEED should be open to plenty of improvement and a mark of 59 may underestimate this consistent four-year-old. A winner of three of his last four starts, King Of The Jungle is likely to be thereabouts, along with Showalong, who ran his best race for some time at Pontefract recently and should enjoy this ground.

SHOWALONG ran well in a better handicap than this when second at Pontefract last time and he's already tasted course success, so he's a solid option ahead of the improving King of The Jungle. Exceed also makes plenty of appeal.

Others are potentially better-in but SHOWALONG (nap) has his optimum conditions and arrives here after running well in a higher grade.

HOPEFUL looked a filly to keep on side when easily seeing off a subsequent winner at Newcastle in January, although she blotted her copybook over the same track and trip last time. A well-bred daughter of Make Believe, Andrew Balding's filly is intriguing on her handicap debut and stepping up in trip could bring about some improvement. Making his return after ending last season with a highly-creditable second at Kempton, No Surrender looks to be the main danger, while Never Ending is one to watch on her first start for a new yard.

NEVER ENDING was going the right way prior to an excusable final run for John & Thady Gosden and she still looks well treated, so she's worth taking a chance on debuting for another excellent stable. No Surrender set a good platform last year, so he's a danger and Hopeful is worth bearing in mind with few miles on the clock.

If forgiven her latest failure at Newcastle then HOPEFUL is appealingly handicapped on the form she showed there in January.

A taking winner at Newcastle on his penultimate outing and a respectable second since, CHIEFMAN sets the standard and soft ground shouldn't be an issue for this son of Cracksman. Between Me And U hasn't set the world alight since joining Alice Haynes but remains a capable sort on his day and he looks a bigger threat to the selection than Kaaress.

It's hard to look beyond CHIEFMAN, who did the job well on his handicap debut in March prior to bumping into a progressive type at Lingfield. He could have more to offer back on turf. Between Me And U is nominated as the likely main danger.

The solid play is CHIEFMAN. He seemed to handle soft ground last season and this campaign has started well.
Ths is the racecard key.
