CARLTON lost his unbeaten record for the James Owen yard when hitting the crossbar in this grade over C&D last month, but that was still a good effort. The five-year-old is only 3lb higher and even a repeat of that display might be good enough to continue his rise through the ranks. Alright Sunshine was behind the selection at Chelmsford prior to finishing fourth in a stronger event at Lingfield last time and could have a say. Night Bear is another to consider.

This can go the way of CARLTON who is fancied to resume winning ways on the back of his very good recent C&D third. For Pleasure appeals as the main danger on the back of his Haydock hurdling success with Night Bear also in the picture.

Although CARLTON had his winning run ended when second over C&D, he was 7l clear of the third and can show he's still on a good mark.

Bazball produced a better display in first-time cheekpieces when a respectable fourth at Newcastle on her most recent start and could go well off a 1lb lower rating. However, the vote goes to STARSONG, who attempted to make every yard of the running before fading into fourth at Wolverhampton last month. The six-year-old is a previous C&D winner and can capitalise on her appealing mark. The Real McKay is next best.

BIPLANE scored in good style at Newcastle on Tuesday and has obvious claims if turned out quickly under a penalty. Bazball took a step back in the right direction starting out for this yard when fourth at Newcastle so is feared most ahead of Lady Wingalong.

A chance is taken with BAZBALL who showed a lot more when fourth on stable debut last time and is 11lb below her last winning mark.

Quickly showed ability when reaching the frame on his debut over track and trip in December and he should mount a bold bid. However, TRANSPARENT gets the nod as he took a step forward from his debut second to justify short odds in good style at Kempton last month and could have plenty more to offer. Bouboule was fourth over C&D last time and he isn't ruled out either.

TRANSPARENT has made a promising start to his career, landing the odds in a Kempton novice a month ago, and with the step up in trip likely to suit he can score again. Francis Drake makes plenty of appeal on paper and could be a contender on debut, while Quickly is open to improvement following the encouragement he showed first time up.

The manner of TRANSPARENT's Kempton success suggests the step up to 1m is sure to suit and he looks up to defying a penalty.

NORTHERN CRACKSMAN took advantage of a sliding mark when scoring over this trip at Newcastle last month and, upped 5lb, a repeat of that effort should put him bang there for his in-form stable. Runner-up over an extended 1m1f at Wolverhampton most recently, I Can't Believe is of renewed interest stepping back in trip off the same mark. Retraction is becoming attractively handicapped and he can also make his presence felt.

I CAN'T BELIEVE has been going the right way since the application of a visor, getting off the mark at Wolverhampton before bumping into a thriving rival at the same course 9 days ago, so he is taken to continue his good spell and resume winning ways. Northern Cracksman also arrives in form and is respected, with Retraction another who is capable of getting involved.

Northern Cracksman is much respected on the back of his breakthrough Newcastle win but narrow preference is for I CAN'T BELIEVE.

FRANKIES DREAM has only finished out of the first two once in six attempts since being fitted with a hood (retained). He looks the most solid proposition having readily showed his rivals a clean pair of heels over 6f at Newcastle on Saturday. He can make light of a 6lb penalty at the chief expense of Sunny Time, who was turned over at short odds at Chelmsford last month but he could bounce back off the same mark. Until Dawn is also respected.

FRANKIES DREAM comes here at the top of his game so is taken to make light of a 6 lb penalty for his ready Newcastle victory and complete a hat-trick. Until Dawn is feared most on the back of his own Newcastle success with Sunny Time also in the mix.

A relatively weak contest and, although a 6lb penalty might make it tougher, FRANKIES DREAM (nap) is taken to complete a hat-trick.

DASH GORDON finished third over this trip at Lingfield last time out but was in winning form over this C&D prior to that and a prominent showing looks likely. If allowed his own way out in front, Stroxx could prove difficult to peg back having performed well off this mark when third in a similar event at Newcastle recently. Starshot is also noteworthy.

STROXX is clearly in good heart and is appealing off the same mark as when a close third at Newcastle on Saturday. He earns the vote ahead of Starshot, who put in a good shift in a minor event at Lingfield recently and he is just about second choice ahead of Dash Gordon.

Although DASH GORDON was behind Starshot at last time, it might be a different story back at the scene of his win last month.

The recent Kempton scorer Stella Hogan appeals on overall form. However, her limitations were exposed when she failed to justify odds-on favouritism off this mark over 1m at the same venue most recently. Having never previously raced at Southwell, she could be worth taking on. EMBARKED, a C&D winner off 8lb higher, may represent a bit of value after hinting at a revival when cheekpieces were added here last week. Autumn Angel is also noted.

This looks ripe for STELLA HOGAN, who made it third time lucky for this yard at Kempton last month and looked unlucky not to follow up back there five days later. She may have most to fear from Billy McGarry, while Autumn Angel is best of the rest.

The suggestion is STELLA HOGAN, who wasn't best suited by how her latest Kempton start was run. She may be capable of better.

Recent form points towards another bold showing from PORTORO, who wasn't beaten far over C&D a fortnight ago and can make amends for that narrow defeat in a race that lacks strength in depth. Fistral Beach is closely matched with the selection based on their encounter over track and trip last month and is feared. Stoic Syd and Vixey are others to note.

PORTORO has had a consistent spell since last spring and this looks a decent opportunity for him to get his head back in front. Fistral Beach is quite closely matched with the selection on C&D form last month and should go well again, while Devasboy is down to a mark he really ought to be competitive from.

With not much strength in depth, preference is for PORTORO who has been consistent of late and may be capable of seeing off this field.
Ths is the racecard key.
