1st (4) (11/8 +59%)Hell Hound |
11/8(+59%) | (4) Hell Hound 11/8, Pulled up in a handicap chase at Taunton latest where couldn't go gallop and needed run; effective 2 1/2m, acts on good to soft; point winner could leave debut effort behind back on better ground. Course hurdle winner; heavy ground possibly didn't suit when pulled up on chase debut. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (7/2 +36%)Always Busy |
7/2(+36%) | (3) Always Busy 7/2, Pulled up in a handicap chase at Chepstow latest where failed to handle soft; effective up to 3m, best on a sound surface; inconsistent, worth a go over marathon trips but threat if getting stiff test here back on better ground. Recent efforts not great but he did win over C&D on good off this mark last spring. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (10/3 -105%)Fern Hill |
10/3(-105%) | (1) Fern Hill 10/3, Back to form on slightly better ground, did plenty early chasing strong pace beaten a length off a 5lb lower mark at Chepstow last time; effective 2m4f-3m, not convinced over further, best on sound surface; in good form this term. ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (11/2 -57%)Queens Wish |
11/2(-57%) | (5) Queens Wish 11/2, Never threatened, no obvious excuse 44l third in a handicap chase at Market Rasen most recent run; C&D winner in autumn; usually held up; effective 2-3m, acts on good to soft and good; good mark on form for old yard over hurdles. C&D win in November but well below that level when twice third since. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (17/2 +39%)Noche Negra |
17/2(+39%) | (2) Noche Negra 17/2, Pulled up in a handicap chase at Stratford latest where failed to convince with stamina; effective around 2m4f, acts on heavy, soft; stiff mark after lay off and stamina concerns once more. Won on yard debut in late 2024 but hasn't shown much in just three runs since. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

FERN HILL returned to form when second at Chepstow and the 11-year-old has every chance of going one better in a contest that lacks much depth on paper. Queens Wish won over C&D in November and would be a threat if returning to that kind of form, while Hell Hound is worth another chance after pulling up on his fencing bow at Taunton.

Hell Hound could leave his chase debut behind but the only one who arrives on the back of a good run is Chepstow second FERN HILL.

12/1(-60%) | (1) Kayce Dutton 12/1, Scored by 3l off a 3lb lower mark at Market Rasen three starts back; travelled but didn't find as much as looked likely fifth beaten 31l off 110 last time, 1lb lower here; effective over 2 1/2-3m, acts on soft and good; inconsistent. |PU| (5) (13/2 +41%)Boston Boy |
13/2(+41%) | (5) Boston Boy 13/2, Pulled up in a handicap chase at Sedgefield latest; blinkers first time; off a short-break; effective 2m, acts on good to soft, good; yet to take to chasing. No show in three chases this winter, pulling up in cheekpieces latest; blinkers on now. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Big Boy Barney ran out a comfortable winner at Huntingdon and Fergal O'Brien's charge has to be respected after a 5lb rise from the handicapper. However, the vote goes to INTENZO. The five-year-old showed plenty of promise on his chase debut at Sedgefield and the switch to a flatter track may yield some improvement. Gilbertina's third at Newcastle gives her every chance of a decent showing.

Although BIG BOY BARNEY probably didn't beat much at Huntingdon he looked to do it with a bit in hand and can make it 2-3 over fences.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

QUEENS CHARM won on her point-to-point debut in November and the daughter of Crystal Ocean, who is related to a couple of bumper winners including Listed hurdles winner Park Princess, is in the right hands to make a successful transition to this sphere. No More Teardrops is out of Mares' Hurdle winner Black Tears and has to be on the shortlist. Aunt Gallie and Frost Moon complete the shortlist.

Ben Pauling won this last year so the vote goes to his point recruit QUEENS CHARM.

7th (2) (150/1 -50%)Lou Des Bordes |

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

ROAD TO WEMBLEY was no slouch on the level and took well to hurdling on his stable debut at Warwick, despite finding one too strong. Olly Murphy's new recruit should be all the wiser for that experience and natural improvement could suffice. Novelista is another who displayed a useful level of ability on the Flat and ought to find this less taxing than the Ascot juvenile event he contested on his hurdling bow. Top Coeur, who has an official rating of 116, should also be involved.

This could be a good chance for ROAD TO WEMBLEY to go one place better than on last month's hurdle debut.

A confident vote goes to PASSING PLEASURE, who won over hurdles at Musselburgh before following up over the larger obstacles at Catterick. The six-year-old went down by a narrow margin at Newcastle last time, but that came after a short break and he is expected to resume his progress now. El Galactico failed to complete at Doncaster, but may bounce back now down in class. Campaign Trail is another to consider.

Although PASSING PLEASURE (nap) lost his unbeaten record for this yard last time it was another improved effort and he can go in again.

10/3(-33%) | (3) Princesse Milania 10/3, No match for winner but ran to form up in class when second beaten 17l in a handicap hurdle at Newcastle latest; effective 2m5f-3m, acts on soft, good; consistent. Hasn't really built on yard debut win in October, beaten 17l when second latest. |

18/1(-125%) | (1) Rosa Diaz 18/1, Mistakes, taken on up front and did plenty early well beaten in a handicap hurdle at Huntingdon latest; effective 2m5f; point winner may improve for step up in trip. Yet to build on hurdle debut, including in a handicap. |

Consistent in defeat in handicaps this season and likely to be on the premises again. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (33/1 -175%)Venturevango |
33/1(-175%) | (4) Venturevango 33/1, Pulled up in a handicap hurdle at Sedgefield latest where never threatened; likely to need more time, yet to show anything. No form of worth, including pulling up on recent yard debut; could only consider if backed. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Briery Butterfly and Princesse Milania have been running creditably in defeat of late and can be expected to make their presence felt, but a chance is taken on MYA DU CLOS. Christian Williams' charge has yet to shine, but she steps up markedly in trip for this handicap bow and it's quite possible that she'll take a big leap forward.

Perhaps this is the day when BRIERY BUTTERFLY gets off the mark. Belladinotte could be a big threat if fully primed after a break.
Ths is the racecard key.

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.
There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.
The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.
Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.
Overall, horse racing is an integral part of British culture and a major contributor to the country's economy. It is a thrilling and exciting sport that continues to attract a loyal following and generate significant interest from spectators and bettors around the world.
