33/1(-32%) | (1) Eco Pete 33/1, Found the ground too testing when finishing down the field in a maiden hurdle at Clonmel last time. Effective over 2m2f, just about stays 2m5f and prefers good ground. An inconsistent maiden over hurdles who goes well at Downpatrick so this track could suit. Poor on heavy at Clonmel; better ground will suit but vulnerable to less exposed rivals. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

150/1(-200%) | (12) Awaywith The Mixer 150/1, Westerner mare and half-sister to Diverse Beauty, a modest performer at 16f. Faces a tough enough task on debut. Dam 2m/2m4f hurdle winner, sister to bumper/2m5f hurdle winner Pure Anticipation; watch. |

Returns from a short break, effective at 2m on good ground, and needs to recapture bumper form to get involved. Third in Clonmel bumper; never a factor on hurdles bow at Wexford on return in October. |

Despite being well held on both occasions, ARSLAN has displayed plenty of promise on both starts under Rules and Willie Mullins' gelding could be very hard to stop in a race of this nature. The main danger is likely to be Stede Bonnet following his second at Ayr a month ago, while Only For Our Man should not be underestimated on his hurdling debut.

Gordon Elliott rang in the new year with the bragging rights and Stede Bonnet is the chief danger to likely winner ARSLAN (nap)

17/2(+15%) | (4) Jupiter Du Gite 17/2, Pulled up in a handicap chase at Sandown last time; well treated on old UK chase form; acts with cut; big ask on stable debut. Form regressed for the Moores last season; makes Irish/stable debut after layoff; watch. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(1) (9/1 0%)Icare D'aubrelle |
9/1(0%) | (1) Icare D'aubrelle 9/1, Travelled and ran to form but made his move too soon off a strong pace when fourth, beaten 16l, in a Conditions Hurdle at Punchestown last time. Wears cheekpieces for the first time, effective at 2m on soft ground but inconsistent early in his career. Bumper/maiden hurdle winner; best form on soft or heavy; in poor form; handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(5) (11/1 -38%)Fighting Fit |
11/1(-38%) | (5) Fighting Fit 11/1, May not have stayed on testing ground when finishing down the field in a handicap hurdle at Navan most recently. Effective up to 2m5f and acts on yielding or good going. Drop back in trip should help and looks well treated on chase form. Weakened at Navan on latest (2m5f, heavy) but well treated relative to chase mark of 135. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(8) (12/1 +40%)My Gaffer |
12/1(+40%) | (8) My Gaffer 12/1, Paid the price for trying to go with the winner when well beaten in a handicap hurdle at Thurles last time. Likes to make the running and effective from 2m to 2½m on decent ground. Form has declined since a summer chase win, and conditions may not suit. (10) (25/1 -56%)Duke Otto |
25/1(-56%) | (10) Duke Otto 25/1, Finished fourth, beaten 7l, in a handicap at Dundalk last time. Effective at 2m and a generally consistent type, though now well exposed to the handicapper. All three wins over hurdles; not ruled out back over timber; never won off mark this high. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(6) (40/1 -150%)Black Soul |
40/1(-150%) | (6) Black Soul 40/1, Disappointing on his flat return when down the field in a handicap at Navan last time. Returns from a short break, effective at 2m, but his opening mark looks demanding. Point/maiden hurdle winner; rookie trainer had gamble foiled at Leopardstown on Monday. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(9) (80/1 -142%)Toofareastiswest |
80/1(-142%) | (9) Toofareastiswest 80/1, Pulled up in a handicap chase at Limerick last time and returns from a long layoff. Unexposed in this sphere and fairly treated on chase form but unreliable. Pulled up at both Leopardstown and Limerick last March; best form is over much further. |

KENTUCKY BEACH arrives here on the back of two seconds in recent months and even a 3lb rise for the latest of those efforts may not be enough to stop him from going one better on this occasion. Captain Ryan Matt bumped into two well-handicapped rivals at Punchestown last time and is likely to be in the mix once again. Others to note are Icare D'aubrelle, Luminous Light and Ellaat.

Producing a career-best when landing a C&D maiden hurdle in August, a return to this venue can see CAPTAIN RYAN MATT win again

Has had his issues but the form of his last two hurdle starts looks strong; big player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

2/1(-14%) | (1) St Lawrence's Well 2/1, Fell in a novice hurdle at Thurles last time when beaten; effective from 2 1/2m to 3m and acts on good ground. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(2) (3/1 +67%)American Jukebox |
3/1(+67%) | (2) American Jukebox 3/1, From a yard that won this race last year; needed the run on hurdle debut and ran well to a point when well beaten in a maiden hurdle at Punchestown last time. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(6) (250/1 -279%)River Kingdom |
250/1(-279%) | (6) River Kingdom 250/1, Outpaced but showed minor promise on debut when well beaten in a bumper at Clonmel on sole start. Returns from a short break and looks difficult to fancy on hurdle debut. Never a factor on bumper debut at Clonmel in November; hard to recommend on hurdles bow. |

DID I ASK YOU THAT was still in with a big chance when he slipped up before three out in a Punchestown maiden hurdle in November. The eight-year-old had been off the track for a year prior to that, but could prove to be a class above this field on the pick of his form. Pookie Holler's fourth last time suggests that he is next best, ahead of St Lawrence's Well.

The promise of drying ground and first-time cheekpieces can see AMERICAN JUKEBOX gain a first victory for red-hot Gordon Elliott

(16) (100/1 -100%)Glorious Singer |
100/1(-100%) | (16) Glorious Singer 100/1, Never involved when down the field in a Cork handicap hurdle most recently; blinkers first time; effective at 2 1/2m; regressive maiden. Still a maiden after 40 attempts under rules; makes no appeal; blinkers. |

PLEASUREOFPRESSURE could be the one in this competitive handicap hurdle, as he might not need much improvement on his latest course second in order to go one place better. Maciver likes it here and ought to go well back over timber following a lacklustre fencing display at Thurles. It is also worth keeping a close eye on Aclass and Pebble Bleu.

Plenty of late money was rewarded for PEBBLE BLEU backers here last time and she's well equipped to see off the 4lb rise

(4) (11/2 +45%)Ile Atlantique |
11/2(+45%) | (4) Ile Atlantique 11/2, Also from last year's winning yard. Didn't find much after a bad error and needed the run when 17l third in the Barberstown Castle Chase at Naas. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(3) (14/1 +0%)Classic Getaway |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(6) (14/1 -75%)Gentleman De Mee |
14/1(-75%) | (6) Gentleman De Mee 14/1, A dual Grade 1 winner from last year's winning stable. Fourth, beaten 42l, in the Clonmel Oil Chase last time after a short break. Effective over 2–2½m and prefers decent ground; should improve but often struggles on winter going. Dual Grade 1 winner won the Topham at Aintree last term; poor at Clonmel but can do better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(8) (20/1 +0%)Perceval Legallois |
20/1(+0%) | (8) Perceval Legallois 20/1, Pulled up in the Coral Gold Cup Handicap Chase at Newbury last time. Stays 3m and prefers decent ground. Was progressive over fences before his Grand National run but remains prone to jumping errors. Was pulled up in the Coral Gold Cup at Newbury on return; has questions to answer now. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.

HEART WOOD was no match for the subsequent King George third Gaelic Warrior when fourth in the Grade 1 John Durkan at Punchestown in November, but he won a similar race to this at the same track in October and ought to go well now his sights are lowered. Champ Kiely slipped up after clipping heels in the Savills Chase at Leopardstown four days ago and would have a chance if none the worse for that mishap. Keep Croke Park in mind too for the in-form Gordon Elliott yard.

CHAMP KIELY can land this. His return at Naas over an inadequate 2m was a superb effort and Leopardstown four days ago was a non-event

(3) (5/2 -33%)Cowper Hall |
5/2(-33%) | (3) Cowper Hall 5/2, Went clear with ease and improved up in trip when winning a handicap hurdle at Fairyhouse by 13l last time; a potential threat with promise of more to come now starting out over fences. (8) (17/2 -113%)Rockbrook |

66/1(-32%) | (6) Little Mixup 66/1, Pulled up in a handicap chase at Limerick last time; effective over 2m and suited by cut, but has been out of form over hurdles and fences for some time. Not a lot of encouragement in six chase starts so others are preferred. |

(7) (100/1 -400%)Ossifer Hops |
100/1(-400%) | (7) Ossifer Hops 100/1, Made mistakes, found the ground too testing and did too much too soon when comfortably held in a handicap chase at Fairyhouse last time; returns from a short break, effective up to 3m but unreliable. Below form last two starts for Gordon Elliott; others preferred on debut for a local yard. |

BLUE HOP won over hurdles for Ben Brookhouse but the nine-year-old has moved to Henry De Bromhead and returns to fences despite failing to get to grips with them so far. If he takes to them now, there may be improvement to come after only 13 career starts. Femme Magnifique was a good third at Clonmel last month and a repeat of that would see her challenge, although Cowper Hall impressed over further at Fairyhouse in December and may be the bigger danger.

Brought down early at Clonmel last time, CAPPUCINO ran a fine race at Punchestown prior to that and can take this

7/2(+13%) | (1) Ag Obair Go Crua 7/2, Scored by 1 1/2l off a 6lb lower mark at Gowran Park on his penultimate start, then ran to form when fourth beaten 6l off 90 on chase debut last time; effective at 2 1/2m and showing steady progress. 18/1(-80%) | (10) Fox Le Bel 18/1, Refused in a handicap chase here last time; effective at 3m and acts with cut; previously consistent before a layoff but a maiden with questionable temperament. Longstanding maiden; refused to race at this venue last time; best to look elsewhere. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(2) (18/1 -50%)Castle Croiuil |
18/1(-50%) | (2) Castle Croiuil 18/1, Returned to form up in trip back over hurdles when second beaten 15l in a maiden hurdle at Limerick last time; a former pointer who likely needs further than 2m. Modest second in a Limerick maiden hurdle last time; has to jump better back over fences. |

(7) (28/1 -27%)Mahler Appeal |
28/1(-27%) | (7) Mahler Appeal 28/1, Pulled up in a handicap chase here last time; effective at 3m and acts with cut but currently out of form. A record of 1-11 over fences but has been pulled up the last twice and isn't easy to fancy. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(4) (33/1 -136%)College Causeway |
33/1(-136%) | (4) College Causeway 33/1, Pulled up in a handicap chase at Hexham last time; effective at 3m on good ground but inconsistent in profile. Pulled up when last seen but had been runner-up twice prior to that; a squeak if ready. |

(13) (40/1 -150%)Wild As Fire |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(6) (50/1 -52%)Ardaghs Choice |
50/1(-52%) | (6) Ardaghs Choice 50/1, Outpaced and needed the run when well beaten in a handicap chase at Punchestown last time; returns from a short break; effective at 3m but has had injury issues and must prove ability remains. Well beaten on second comeback run at Punchestown last time but can come on from that. |

Toor Moon wears first-time cheekpieces as connections look to break a run of four second places in a row. Likable Chancer has won here twice, with the latest off 1lb higher in August, and he warrants plenty of respect, but DUFFYS HODEY is preferred. A triple winning hurdler, he won over fences for the first time at Limerick readily enough on Monday and he might well follow up.

Though he is reappearing soon enough after his Limerick win in testing ground, it is difficult to oppose DUFFYS HODEY
Ths is the racecard key.
