(1) (13/8 -30%)Spirits Bay |
13/8(-30%) | (1) Spirits Bay 13/8, Won cosily when outclassing rivals after dropping in grade and benefiting from the reduced trip, landing a handicap by 1 1/2l off 122 over 2m1f at Newton Abbot last time; the pick on balance of form off lenient mark starting out over fences. Won over hurdles on last month's return; bred for fences and he's a player on chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(2) (7/4 +50%)Excelero |
7/4(+50%) | (2) Excelero 7/4, Too free and went clear, making too much use of himself when fourth, beaten 15l in a beginners' chase over 2m4f at Worcester latest; trainer in form; enjoys making the running; effective 2–2 1/4m; must settle better over fences. Shaped encouragingly on last month's chase debut; should build on that and this is easier. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(3) (2/1 -33%)Mister Cessna |
2/1(-33%) | (3) Mister Cessna 2/1, Did it readily and looked well treated on hurdle form, improving back over fences to win a handicap by 5l off 120 at Uttoxeter last time; effective at 2m and handles any ground; progressing for new yard but this demands more. Ready winner on chase debut despite jumping a little to his right; big claims up 5lb. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

It's hard to oppose MISTER CESSNA. Fergal O'Brien's charge made a strong impression when a five-length victor at Uttoxeter last month and the handicapper might have been kind to only put him up 5lb. With a similar performance, the four-year-old will prove very tough to beat. Spirits Bay struck over the smaller obstacles at Newton Abbot last time and has to be of interest on his chasing bow. Excelero looks booked for third.

All three have solid claims but EXCELERO shaped encouragingly on his chase debut at Worcester last month and gets the nod.

(1) (11/4 +61%)Oh My Johnny |
11/4(+61%) | (1) Oh My Johnny 11/4, Yard won this race last year; below form up in grade when well beaten in a handicap hurdle at Newbury last time. Effective from 2m to 2½m and acts on soft and good to soft ground; was in form until latest effort. Won Hereford h'cap off 4lb lower in February; chance if tuned up for this reappearance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(3) (11/4 +21%)Onewaywest |
11/4(+21%) | (3) Onewaywest 11/4, Ran to form appreciating a return to a longer trip when second, beaten 4½l, in a 2m4f handicap hurdle at Ffos Las last time. Effective over 2½m and acts on soft and good to soft ground, though can be inconsistent. Blew hot and cold in four starts last term; mark okay for return; look for market support. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(4) (4/1 -60%)Diamond Geezer |
4/1(-60%) | (4) Diamond Geezer 4/1, Improved in first-time cheekpieces to win a 2m4f handicap at Perth by ¾l off a mark of 102 last time. The trainer is in form; effective from 2m to 2½m and handles soft and good to soft ground. Progressive with strong recent form. Cheeekpieces on when opening his account at Perth (2m4f, soft) last time; player up 6lb. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(5) (9/2 -64%)Codetalker |
9/2(-64%) | (5) Codetalker 9/2, Showed a willing attitude and improved from debut when second, beaten ¾l, in a 2m maiden hurdle at Fakenham last time. Effective at 2m and should improve for stepping up in trip. Promise in both hurdle starts; step up in trip can suit on h'cap debut; interesting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(6) (9/2 +36%)Sweet Magic |
9/2(+36%) | (6) Sweet Magic 9/2, Ran to form when second, beaten 5l, in a handicap hurdle here last time, looking in need of a slightly stiffer test. Returning from a long layoff; effective over 2½m and acts on soft and good to soft ground; a maiden in fair form. 0-10 over hurdles but good efforts all three starts over C&D; contender on reappearance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(2) (33/1 -230%)Vocito |
33/1(-230%) | (2) Vocito 33/1, A bit below form when comfortably held in a 2m handicap hurdle at Newbury last time. The trainer is in form, and he enjoys making the running. Effective at 2m and suited by a sound surface; generally consistent since joining this yard. Exposed hurdler; won in cheekpieces in July but that aid continues to be absent. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Despite not jumping with fluency, DIAMOND GEEZER justified favouritism in first-time cheekpieces at Perth last month and could improve again on just his fourth start in a handicap. Codetalker showed more when second over 2m at Fakenham and is of interest on his handicap bow, with the step up in distance a possible source of improvement. Onewaywest looks best of the rest.

Most of these can be fancied but CODETALKER looks interesting on his handicap debut, with the step up in trip likely to suit.

(4) (5/6 +49%)Dig Deep |
5/6(+49%) | (4) Dig Deep 5/6, Showed promise on debut when runner-up, beaten 1 1/2l in a 2m4f maiden hurdle at Ffos Las; trainer in form, effective at this trip and on soft ground; strong contender on that form. Promising second behind good sort on debut at Ffos Las 22 days ago; sets a solid standard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(1) (7/2 +13%)Jackpot Cauveliere |
7/2(+13%) | (1) Jackpot Cauveliere 7/2, Made a promising debut when a 20l winner in a maiden over 3m at Lingstown; needs to improve to follow up in this stronger contest on rules debut. Wide-margin winner of Irish point; bought for £100,000 six days later; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(6) (4/1 -129%)Sallyville Lady |
4/1(-129%) | (6) Sallyville Lady 4/1, Made a promising debut when scoring by 10l in a 3m maiden at Ballycrystal; back from a long break but looks a feasible threat if fit for rules debut. Odds-on and won by 10l in sole Irish point (3m, good to yielding); fascinating contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(3) (15/2 +6%)Sogna In Grande |
15/2(+6%) | (3) Sogna In Grande 15/2, Built on debut effort to win a maiden at Ston Easton over 2m4f by 8l last time; back from a long layoff and will need to progress further. Bought for £75,000 after British point win (2m4f, good to firm) in March; likely contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(5) (40/1 -43%)Might As Well |
40/1(-43%) | (5) Might As Well 40/1, 14,000 euros Mahler gelding; half-brother to Noah And The Ark, a very useful performer at 16f. 14,000euros foal by Mahler; family of Moorcroft Boy; worth a market check on debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(2) (50/1 -79%)Paul Manate |
50/1(-79%) | (2) Paul Manate 50/1, Ran below form when fourth, beaten 28l in a 3m conditions race at Kimble last time; returns after a lengthy absence and looks hard to fancy. 1-4 in British points; best watched on stable/rules debut after nearly 600 days away. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Point-to-point winner Sallyville Lady is a half-sister to bumper/hurdles winner Pollypockett and needs to be monitored in the market for the in-form Skelton team. However, DIG DEEP finished over two lengths clear of the third when second at Ffos Las and is likely to progress from that display, with the extra furlong not expected to pose him any problems. Any market confidence behind Jackpot Cauveliere would be interesting.

Some interesting newcomers but DIG DEEP recorded an encouraging introduction at Ffos Las last month and sets a solid standard to aim at.

(3) (11/10 +45%)Chuggy |
11/10(+45%) | (3) Chuggy 11/10, Improved when dropped in trip and back from a break on chase debut, landing a handicap by 2 1/4l off a mark of 100 over 2m at Uttoxeter; effective from 2m to 2m5f, suited by good ground; more to come over fences for a top yard. Scored on chase debut/reappearance last month; unexposed and step up in trip can suit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(6) (7/2 +13%)Another Folly |
7/2(+13%) | (6) Another Folly 7/2, Jumped well and ran to form when landing a handicap by 2l off a mark of 100 over 2m7f at Stratford last time; effective from 2 1/2m to 3m and in fine form but conditions a concern. Off the mark over fences latest; drops in trip but should make another bold bid up 5lb. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(5) (6/1 +63%)Thruthelookinglass |
6/1(+63%) | (5) Thruthelookinglass 6/1, Probably needed the race when fourth, beaten 13l in a handicap hurdle over 3m1f at Wincanton last time; returning from a long layoff and needs to improve. Lightly raced 8yo who makes chase debut after another break; market may help. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(4) (7/1 -75%)Dunskay |
7/1(-75%) | (4) Dunskay 7/1, Below form when 42l third in a maiden hurdle over 2m at Southwell on latest start; trainer in good form; wears a tongue-tie for the first time and looks a value selection on balance of form. Good mark on bumper form; underwhelming over hurdles; h'cap/chse debut; heed market clues. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(1) (11/1 +0%)Duhallow Tommy |
11/1(+0%) | (1) Duhallow Tommy 11/1, Well held by less exposed rivals when comfortably beaten in a handicap chase over 2m1f at Worcester last time; effective from 2m to 2 1/2m, acts on good to soft and good ground; generally consistent before latest run. Hasn't added to early hat-trick over fences and beaten a long way latest; down the list. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(2) (18/1 -125%)Icare Colombe |
18/1(-125%) | (2) Icare Colombe 18/1, Below form when well beaten in a maiden hurdle over 2m3f at Doncaster last time; returning from a long layoff and has a bit to find on recent efforts starting out over fences. Fair form in 2 of 3 hurdle starts; handicap/chase debut and bred to do better over fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(7) (22/1 -300%)Mavis Pike |
22/1(-300%) | (7) Mavis Pike 22/1, Fell when still in contention in a handicap chase over 2m5f at Fakenham last time; effective at 2m, well treated up 1lb, and progressing over fences. Running much better until falling at the final fence last time; contender after 1lb nudge. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

The further CHUGGY went at Uttoxeter, the stronger he looked. That was his fencing bow and a 6lb rise should be no barrier to further success, nor should the different conditions given that his siblings, most notably leading Champion Hurdle fancy The New Lion, have handled soft ground. Dan Skelton's charge is expected to prove too strong for Stratford victor Another Folly and Dunskay, who tries fences for the first time.

The vote goes to CHUGGY, who appeals as the sort to progress again over this longer trip.

(6) (3/1 +33%)Murphy's Milan |
3/1(+33%) | (6) Murphy's Milan 3/1, Ran to form back from a break when beaten 6l in a handicap hurdle over 2m3f at Chepstow last time; in good form prior; hood on for the first time; effective at 2½m but may ideally want 3m; consistent in a short career. Mid-division both handicaps but unexposed and suspicion he's capable of better; hooded now. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(7) (10/3 +52%)Gwennie May Star |
10/3(+52%) | (7) Gwennie May Star 10/3, From a yard that won this last year; outpaced and jumped poorly when needing the run after a wind operation, comfortably held in a handicap chase over 2m4f at Bangor-on-Dee last time; trainer in form; second run after wind op following a short break. Left Dan Skelton after some poor efforts; watch the market on this stable debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(5) (13/2 -117%)Getaway Theatre |
13/2(-117%) | (5) Getaway Theatre 13/2, Landed a handicap by 1¼l off 107 over 3m at Chepstow last time when returning from a long layoff; effective from 2½m to 3m and suited by plenty of cut; still looks on a generous mark and could follow up. Won in February (3m, soft); considered off 3lb higher on her reappearance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(8) (7/1 +13%)Catch Catchfire |
7/1(+13%) | (8) Catch Catchfire 7/1, Fell when beaten in a handicap chase over 2m4f at Carlisle last time when returning from a long layoff; has a bit to find to feature back over hurdles. Improved once handicapping over fences; unexposed in this sphere; interesting on return. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(4) (11/1 -10%)Kiss My Face |
11/1(-10%) | (4) Kiss My Face 11/1, Scored by 1½l off 105 over 3m at Wetherby on his penultimate start; outpaced and had too much to do when third, beaten 4l off 111 last time; suited by 3m on a sound surface; inconsistent veteran in form. Solid efforts of late include Wetherby win (3m, good); acts on soft and warrants respect. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(2) (11/1 -300%)Thankyourluckystar |
11/1(-300%) | (2) Thankyourluckystar 11/1, Went clear with ease and improved for a stiffer track when landing a handicap by 15l off 106 over 2m7f at Worcester last time; effective from 2½m to 3m on good ground; recent form strong. Wide-margin win under Harry Skelton in May; handicapper's had a say, but still respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(9) (11/1 +31%)Flash In The Pan |
11/1(+31%) | (9) Flash In The Pan 11/1, Scored by ½l off 92 over 3m2f at Hereford on his penultimate start; ran to form when third beaten 4½l off 95 last time; effective up to 3m2f on good ground; in form and has scope for further progress as a stayer. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(3) (14/1 -17%)I'm A Starman |
14/1(-17%) | (3) I'm A Starman 14/1, Had every chance but ran below form when well beaten in a handicap hurdle over 2m7f at Exeter latest; effective at 3m on good ground; handicapper may have caught up. 4-timer included C&D win in May; back down the weights but was tailed off last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(1) (22/1 -38%)Sporting Ace |
22/1(-38%) | (1) Sporting Ace 22/1, Outpaced and failed to travel when down the field in a handicap chase at Ffos Las most recently; fair mark on chase form and may contend if sharper. Surrey National winner last term over fences; market support would help for hurdles return. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Thankyourluckystar bolted up at Worcester in May and must be treated with the utmost respect given that he remains unexposed over staying trips, but an 11lb rise will demand more of him and GETAWAY THEATRE could be the value. Stuart Edmunds' mare signed off last season with a win at Chepstow and remains well treated from 3lb higher. She, too, is open to improvement at this distance and so is Murphy's Milan, who could fare better in a first-time hood.

Plenty need considering but CATCH CATCHFIRE is unexposed in this sphere and can make a winning reappearance.

(2) (13/8 +59%)Dromlac Jury |
13/8(+59%) | (2) Dromlac Jury 13/8, Travelled well and ran to form when finishing 6l third in a handicap chase over 2m1f at Worcester on her return from a break; effective at 2m and acts on soft and good ground; consistent over fences. Pretty solid in four of five starts over fences; latest form was franked; this is winnable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(5) (11/4 +39%)Superstylin |
11/4(+39%) | (5) Superstylin 11/4, Won by 6l off 87 over 2m1f at Worcester three starts back and was second, beaten 3l off 89, last time; effective at 2m on good ground; generally in good form. Won on stable debut but he's unreliable and flopped next time; second over hurdles latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(7) (4/1 +47%)Stick With Me Sam |
4/1(+47%) | (7) Stick With Me Sam 4/1, Unseated rider in a handicap chase over 2m1f at Bangor-on-Dee last time; usually held up; effective at 2m and handles ground with cut; generally in good form. Capable but jumping isn't the best; hood added for this return after wind surgery. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(4) (4/1 -14%)Bobbi's Beauty |
4/1(-14%) | (4) Bobbi's Beauty 4/1, Travelled smoothly and returned to her best when allowed to dominate at a sharp track, landing a handicap by 3¼l off 91 at Taunton last time; effective from 2m to 2½m; capable when getting an easy lead but inconsistent. Won in March when last seen; 5lb higher but one of the more likely ones if ready to go. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(1) (7/1 -180%)Kykorock |
7/1(-180%) | (1) Kykorock 7/1, Never put into the race on his final qualifying run but improved when stepped up in trip, finishing 11l third in a novice hurdle over 2m3f here on his most recent start; a potential threat with more to come over fences. Low-key stuff under rules but this point winner may do better now handicapping over fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(3) (18/1 -64%)King Of Brazil |
18/1(-64%) | (3) King Of Brazil 18/1, Pulled up in a handicap chase at Ffos Las last time; wears blinkers for the first time; effective over 2m to 2½m and suited by plenty of cut; inconsistent performer. Pulled up on reappearance; needs to take a big step forward in a new headgear combination. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(8) (28/1 0%)Chief O'hara |
28/1(0%) | (8) Chief O'hara 28/1, Made mistakes and produced a poor chase debut when well beaten in a handicap chase over 3m1f at Hereford last time; trainer in form but yet to show any ability. Poor form under rules; easily opposed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(6) (50/1 -178%)Boom Boom |
50/1(-178%) | (6) Boom Boom 50/1, Found little when well beaten in a handicap chase over 2m3f at Stratford last time; effective from 2m to 2m3f and prefers a sound surface; on a stiff mark and saves his best for Stratford. Dual chase winner but big defeat last time; soft ground would raise a concern too. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

KYKOROCK made little impact in three novice hurdle runs but the Skeltons have wasted little time in sending him over fences, which could be a tip in itself. The point-to-point winner doesn't look too harshly treated from an opening mark of 100 and the team does well here. Bobbi's Beauty is three from seven over the larger obstacles and looks a real threat, as does Superstylin, who should benefit from a return to chasing.

Most of these have some sort of question to answer and in the circumstances DROMLAC JURY (nap) looks the safest play.
Ths is the racecard key.
