1st (2) (4/6 +47%)Fortification |
4/6(+47%) | (2) Fortification 4/6, Improved on debut, clear of the rest when second, beaten 1 1/4l in a novice at Ripon last time. Cheekpieces applied for the first time. Effective at 5f and could take plenty of beating in this headgear. £350,000 breeze-up buy; placed twice in first half of year; retains potential. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (11/1 +0%)Havana Jag |
11/1(+0%) | (7) Havana Jag 11/1, Ran to debut level when beaten 4l in a novice at Southwell last time. Effective at 5/6f and acts on the all-weather; may do better when handicapping. Signs of ability at Brighton and Southwell; open to further progress; each-way claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (8) (6/4 +8%)Palmeira |
6/4(+8%) | (8) Palmeira 6/4, Bit below form when beaten 7l in the Bosra Sham Fillies' Stakes (Listed) over 6f at Newmarket last time. Trainer in good form. Effective at 5f and acts on the all-weather; exposed but sets the standard. 0-9 but went close in 5f Listed race at Newbury in August; seems sure to be thereabouts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (80/1 -186%)Al Najashi |
80/1(-186%) | (1) Al Najashi 80/1, Improved on debut when fourth, beaten 7l in a maiden here last time. Wears a hood for the first time and has a wide draw. Effective at 5f and acts on the all-weather; should progress further. Showed more than on debut when fourth of five over C&D but will need another leap forward. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (150/1 -200%)Power Cut |
150/1(-200%) | (5) Power Cut 150/1, Moderate debut when beaten 9l in a novice at Lingfield on debut. Likely to need further than 6f and faces a tough task here. Went off 50-1 and trailed throughout at Lingfield last month; difficult to recommend. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (28/1 -12%)Hardstyle |
28/1(-12%) | (3) Hardstyle 28/1, Moderate debut, needed experience when beaten 8 1/2l in a novice at Southwell on debut. Bred to sprint and should improve with experience. Drifted in the market, slowly away and always in rear on debut at Southwell. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (25/1 -108%)Lieutenant Sir |
25/1(-108%) | (4) Lieutenant Sir 25/1, 20 Apr; 5,000gns Mayson colt; half-brother to Ibn Aldar, fair from 6f to 7f; dam very useful at 5f at 2yo; stable has a stronger candidate. Not ruled out on pedigree; worth a market check with yard also running Fortification. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (6) (33/1 -200%)Exhibition Match |
33/1(-200%) | (6) Exhibition Match 33/1, 1 Mar; 50,000gns Showcasing filly; full-sister to Glamour Show, smart at 6f; dam very useful at 6f at 2yo; probably best watched on debut. 50,000gns yearling; plausible newcomer on paper; one of two runners for Ollie Sangster. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Palmeira boasts plenty of experience and black type, having placed in a Listed contest at Newbury, but there is every chance she might prove vulnerable returning to novice company. Therefore, the vote goes to FORTIFICATION. The son of Mehmas has been gelded since his runner-up effort at Ripon in June and the application of cheekpieces might further aid his cause. Exhibition Match and Lieutenant Sir appeal most of the remainder.

Palmeira has the best form but FORTIFICATION has some potential, and Archie Watson's gelding can notch his first win.

1st (5) (9/1 -50%)Charlotte Corday |
9/1(-50%) | (5) Charlotte Corday 9/1, Ran to form on handicap debut when beaten 2l off 67 over 8f at Redcar last time. Effective at 8f and handles the all-weather. Has more to come in handicaps. 2l third of five on 1m Redcar nursery debut; bit more needed now switching to AW. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (7/2 +53%)Phantom Watch |
7/2(+53%) | (4) Phantom Watch 7/2, Ran to form in cheekpieces when beaten 3 1/4l off 72 over 7f at Kempton last time. Wears a visor for the first time. Effective at 6/7f and handles the all-weather but needs more up in trip. Only fifth in two AW nurseries; new visor (replacing cheekpieces) needs to help. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (13/8 -18%)Lavender Gold |
13/8(-18%) | (3) Lavender Gold 13/8, Ran to form when second beaten 2 1/4l in a maiden over 7f at Ffos Las last time. Effective at 7/8f and acts on the all-weather. Likely to progress now handicapping. Promise in his three qualifying runs and should be more to come in nurseries. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

5/1(+38%) | (1) Swift Winds 5/1, Ran to form when third beaten 5l in a nursery over 8f at Newcastle on her latest outing. Effective at 7/8f and acts on the all-weather. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (7/1 -133%)Urgent Call |
7/1(-133%) | (2) Urgent Call 7/1, Too keen but ran to form in cheekpieces when landing a 7f Newcastle handicap by 1/2l off 71 last time. Effective at 7/8f and handles the all-weather. A big colt who could do better still. Reacted well to cheekpieces (retained) when winning at Newcastle latest; respected up 4lb. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (5/1 +64%)Kanes A Lott |
5/1(+64%) | (6) Kanes A Lott 5/1, Below form after a slow start when down the field in a 6f novice at Windsor last time. Trainer in form. Tongue-tie first time, newly gelded and stepping up in trip; bred for sprinting. Worth betting check upped in trip for nursery debut (gelded); also tongue-tie first time. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

The drop to 7f seemed to help Urgent Call get off the mark at Newcastle, so it is a concern that he steps back up in trip when both runs over a mile have seen him weaken inside the final furlong. With that in mind, CHARLOTTE CORDAY gets the vote. Ed Walker's filly kept on for third at Redcar and the extra yardage looks sure to bring about improvement. Lavender Gold has to enter calculations on his nursery debut after a couple of solid efforts in defeat.

Newcastle winner Urgent Call should go well again but preference is for handicap newcomer \bLAVENDER GOLDp.

4/1(+0%) | (6) Diamondinthedark 4/1, Promising debut when runner-up beaten 3/4l in a maiden at Southwell on only start; effective at 6f; improvement likely. 22-1 but always in touch when second of eight in maiden at Southwell (6f, Tapeta) on debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (9/4 +25%)Queen Sana |
9/4(+25%) | (4) Queen Sana 9/4, Improved on debut when second beaten 1 1/4l in a novice here last time; effective at 6f; should improve further. Second in a C&D novice is not the best form but she looks one of the leading players. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (16/1 -60%)Mollstar |
16/1(-60%) | (3) Mollstar 16/1, Ran to debut level when fourth beaten 9 1/2l in a maiden at Doncaster last time; effective at 6f; more to offer. Latest run was on heavy and she could be worth another chance to build on debut promise. |

22/1(+56%) | (9) Ya Habibti 22/1, Moderate debut when well beaten in a novice at Leicester on only start; bred to be effective at 7/8f; major improvement needed. 10l Leicester defeat (6f, soft; 25-1) was low-level form but she showed promise to 2f out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

18/1(-80%) | (7) Tabby Kat 18/1, 22 Feb; Bobby's Kitten filly; dam fair over 6f including at 2yo including at 2yo; likely up against it on debut. By Bobby's Kitten; first foal; dam 6f AW winner (RPR 67); market may guide on debut. |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (5) (33/1 -230%)Zoustellar |
33/1(-230%) | (5) Zoustellar 33/1, Moderate debut when beaten 5 1/4l in a maiden at Southwell on debut; bred to be effective at 6/7f; improvement needed. Needs a second look, even though Diamondinthedark was 4.5l ahead at Southwell on debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (8) (66/1 -100%)Sweet Echo |
66/1(-100%) | (8) Sweet Echo 66/1, Ran as though something was amiss when down the field in a maiden at Newcastle most recently; wide draw; effective at 6f; needs to bounce back. 150-1 fourth at Windsor in August but tailed off at Newcastle (6f, Tapeta) in September. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

QUEEN SANA proved her Southwell fourth at a massive price wasn't a fluke when runner-up over C&D earlier in the month. Ollie Sangster's filly wouldn't need to improve much to get off the mark. Adalida showed some decent form earlier in the year and has to be of interest on her debut for Stuart Williams, while Diamondinthedark is a player judged on her narrow defeat at Southwell.

Second at Southwell where she showed plenty of dash, DIAMONDINTHEDARK may be able to build on that performance to go one better.

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (2/1 -7%)Mersea Island |
2/1(-7%) | (6) Mersea Island 2/1, Improved, won with loads in hand when landing a handicap by 5l off 73 over 12f at Southwell last time; effective 10-12f on all-weather; more to come at this trip. Progressive profile on AW, including easy win last time; 6lb rise looks fair. |

4th (1) (25/1 -150%)Arqoob |
25/1(-150%) | (1) Arqoob 25/1, Below form with no obvious excuse when fourth beaten 35l in a handicap hurdle over 2m5f at Plumpton last time; effective up to 1m6f and on all-weather; more needed off this mark. Two Flat wins this year but needs to shrug off a below-par run over hurdles last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (9/1 +18%)Great Bedwyn |
9/1(+18%) | (2) Great Bedwyn 9/1, Below form, found little when well beaten in a handicap over 12f at Southwell last time; off a short break; effective 12-14f on all-weather; needs to bounce back. Well held in warm race at Southwell latest but second at Kempton prior to that. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (8/1 +20%)Dream Harder |
8/1(+20%) | (5) Dream Harder 8/1, Ran to recent level when beaten 4 1/4l in a handicap over 10f at Newcastle last time; effective 10-12f on all-weather; below his best of late. Not at best lately but well treated again and Loughnane does well for yard. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

Mersea Island readily took care of his nearest rival by just under five lengths at Southwell and may improve for this step up in trip. Even so, BAHADUR looks the way to go. The son of Make Believe made a winning handicap debut over an extended 1m4f at Newcastle, shaping as if he would relish this extra distance. This looks another good opportunity and he can remain unbeaten on the all-weather. Great Bedwyn is best of the rest.

It may pay to focus on the two 3yos, with easy Southwell winner MERSEA ISLAND preferred to \bBahadur.

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

7/2(+36%) | (2) Em Jay Kay 7/2, Scored by a nose off 59 at Newcastle on his penultimate start and ran to form when third last time. Trainer is in form. Effective at 5/6f and handles all-weather surfaces. In form and respected. Two good runs at Newcastle in the last nine days; should be involved once again. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (12) (40/1 -100%)Forever Noah |

15/2(+63%) | (5) Lastchancezouloon 15/2, Below form and failed to get home when down the field in a 7f handicap at Beverley most recently. Returning from a break. Effective at 6/7f and handles all-weather. Drop in trip not certain to suit. Lightly raced filly; one run that gives her claims but sharp 6f a query on stable debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (4) (50/1 -317%)Horus |
50/1(-317%) | (4) Horus 50/1, Slowly away and below form when beaten 7 1/4l in a handicap over 5f at Newbury last time. Returning from a break. Effective at 5/6f and acts on all-weather. Out of form lately. Chance on last winter' best form but starts out for new stable after a five-month absence. |

Generally consistent but mark looks about right. Needs things to fall just right for her and she would be of more interest over 5f. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

SAM'S HOPE scored over the minimum trip at Southwell last week. She's now won three times since September and, given the first two of those victories came over over C&D, Martin Dunne's in-form sprinter looks worth sticking with. Woodhay Whisper makes a quick reappearance after going in here on Tuesday. She warrants respect, as does Sovereign Class, who is taken to reverse recent running with Newcastle winner Em Jay Kay.

A wide draw and a 6lb rise may well not be enough to prevent the thriving SAM'S HOPE (nap) from winning again.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Electric Avenue completed a brace at Newcastle with Monday's success and she will be hard to keep out of the finish. The latter comment also applies to Chifa, who has gone close on his last couple of outings, but the unexposed BALOO'S BLUES makes most appeal. A respectable second at Salisbury on his handicap debut, the son of Havana Grey could well prove better than his current mark on his return to the fray.

Lightly raced 3yo Baloo's Blues is interesting but he's been off a while and the percentage call is CHIFA.

14/1(-17%) | (5) Fools Rush In 14/1, Again below form and found little when well beaten in a handicap here latest. Effective at 7f, suited by all-weather surfaces, but a major bounce back is needed. Well treated again but needs to step up a good deal on his two comeback runs this autumn. |

Liberty Bird went close over a mile at Southwell last month and could feature now debuting for her new yard, but STRAIGHT A is taken to edge affairs. Beaten only a neck over C&D back in March, he returns to this venue for the first time since and Mick Appleby's charge looks worth chancing off his current mark. Enpassant and Zu Run are others with a shout if rediscovering their best.

In a contest where few arrive with pressing claims it might be worth chancing STRAIGHT A, who has a bit of class for this grade.

Hint Of Humour was first past the post but lost her hat-trick in the stewards' room when placed fourth over track and trip last month and needs considering in her current mood. GOOD POINT finished fifth behind Popular Dream at Southwell, but raced close to a strong pace and is now 3lb better off with the winner. With a good draw in stall one, he might be the one to side with.

Good Point would seem likely to run a big race but HINT OF HUMOUR is thriving at present and can make amends for last month's DQ.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

SO ALEX was upped to 1m3f at Southwell for his recent handicap debut and was beaten only a neck into second. This additional furlong could bring further improvement from the son of Sottsass and another bold bid is anticipated. Hackney Diamonds looks worth another try over this far after finishing a close fifth over the extended 1m1f here, while Electric Bass is usually in the mix at this level.

Most of these are fully exposed but SO ALEX is an exception, and he can go one better than when beaten a neck at Southwell last Friday.
Ths is the racecard key.
