In an open event, a chance can be taken on FREE AS A BIRD, who should appreciate a drop in trip after weakening late on over 6f at Kempton. A 3lb ease in the handicap might underestimate the daughter of Showcasing because she showed ability in novice/maiden company. The Liegeman defeated a subsequent winner at Lingfield three weeks ago so a 7lb rise looks more than fair. Others to note include Miss Anya and It's Showtime.

A tight-knit nursery in which marginal preference is for HOT FRONT who shaped well on her debut for David Evans when a C&D fourth and can now capitalise on a 2 lb lower mark. Lingfield-scorer The Liegeman arrives on the up and seems sure to be in the mix while C&D second Miss Anya and Tony Carroll's new recruits Wrestling Revenue and Interestnpenalties need factoring in too.

The well-related THE LIEGEMAN can defy a 7lb rise and confirm recent form with Relentless Warrior. Mart is another with claims.

Sports Coach was a comfortable winner at Newcastle but while he has to be respected, he might struggle to concede 4lb to INFLUENCE. George Boughey's charge bumped into a useful prospect over 6f here on his debut and natural improvement could make him a tough nut to crack. Jenni, who sets the standard with an official rating of 85, ought to be more than capable of getting involved on her first start for the David O'Meara team.

George Boughey took this prize 12 months ago and looks to have another likely sort in INFLUENCE who shaped well when second on his recent debut here and can go one better with improvement very much on the cards. Karl Burke's Newcastle-scorer Sports Coach rates the obvious threat, although David O'Meara's new recruit Jenni has the form to play a part if fully tuned up after a seven-month absence.

This likely boils down to Newcastle winner Sports Coach and INFLUENCE, with the latter preferred in receipt of 4lb.

SISTERS IN THE SKY went close to exploiting a sliding handicap mark when filling the runner-up spot here last week and, eased a further 2lb in the ratings, he is fancied to go one better. Van Zant continues to run well in defeat and he's unlikely to be far away, while Dodgy Bob and Written Broadcast are just two others to consider.

SISTERS IN THE SKY turned in his best effort since joining Grace Harris when finishing runner-up up over 6f here last week, and with the third that day winning at Southwell on Friday, he gets the nod from a career-low mark. Voltaic should be suited by a return to this trip so he can give the selection most to think about, with Brave Display and Written Broadcast taken to fight out third.

Sisters In The Sky is shortlisted but the vote goes to VOLTAIC, who's always liked it here and will be happier back up in trip.

TIME PATROL made the frame over this distance at Kempton earlier in the month and his mark remains unchanged. The three-year-old also competes in the same grade and could be the one to beat. The main threat might be Outreach, who filled the runner-up spot over C&D last time and now has George Bass claiming 3lb off the same rating. Hawajes is worth a second look in a first-time tongue-tie.

A chance is taken that SWISS ROWE will bounce back returned to this track and he can prove too good for the unexposed Time Patrol and the consistent Pop Favorite. .

Rebel Redemption can go well from the front but BROTHER DAVE hinted at better when meeting trouble at Southwell last time.

Intervention continued his cracking form by proving his versatility to go in over 6f at Lingfield and while in this sort of form, he will be hard to keep out of the finish off a 4lb higher mark. However, marginal preference is for MOUNT ATHOS, who had Lord Of The Lodge well beaten when successful at Kempton and followed that up with a second at Listed level in France. The top-weight steps back into handicap company and looks the one to beat. Soar Above completes the shortlist.

MOUNT ATHOS has got firmly back on track having been gelded, successful over this trip at Kempton prior to a solid second in a French listed contest 23 days ago. He can concede weight all round and come out on top. Intervention is thriving and can't be discounted in his bid to land the 4-timer. First-time cheekpieces may put an extra edge on Misty Grey who is steadily easing in the weights.

Intervention is thriving but MOUNT ATHOS has a fine record on AW and he can take another step up the ladder and defy top weight.

LIGHT SPEED is unbeaten in his last three starts, including when striking by just over two lengths on his handicap debut at Lingfield last time. The son of Mehmas was put up 7lb for that success, which is unlikely to prevent him from going in again, especially given the likelihood of more to come. King's Code had to settle for second when sent off favourite at Chelmsford but can go well off the same rating, while last-time-out C&D winner Civil Law is another to note.

LIGHT SPEED's theme of race-by-race progress continued as he brought up the hat-trick at Lingfield 3 weeks ago and, with the likelihood of more to come, he can make another bold bid on the front end. Civil Law landed this race 12 months ago and looked as good as ever when successful over C&D recently so he's feared. Felix and King's Code complete the shortlist.

Light Speed will rightly be popular but CIVIL LAW (nap) can win this race for the second year in succession.

DISTINCTION was an impressive winner over C&D last week and is hard to oppose on the back of that performance, despite carrying a 5lb penalty. Aeroplane Mode has made the frame on his last couple of starts and is likely to be in the mix once again, while Prince Hector is another recent track-and-trip winner who has to be of interest.

AEROPLANE MODE would have finished closer than third with a clear run at Lingfield a fortnight ago and that performance suggests he's ready to strike. Distinction is wisely turned out under a 5 lb penalty having routed the opposition over C&D last week and he has to be feared, along with Have You A Minute.

Calcutta Dream remains of interest on AW but AEROPLANE MODE has been threatening to make the breakthrough in recent starts.

AMAZING put in a career best when second over 1m2f on the Lingfield turf back in June and she merits the utmost respect on her return to action, especially with the benefit of a first-time hood. Recent C&D winner Sea Of Charm has to be of interest but can be unpredictable, while Western Stars and Suffrajet are others with strong form claims.

Plenty are in with a shout. SUFFRAJET made light of an absence when going in at Kempton and with that form working out well then Charlie Johnston's low-mileage daughter of Golden Horn is fancied to strike again. Western Stars arrives at the top of his game and is feared most, although a solid case can also be made for C&D winner Percy Willis and the returning Amazing.

Western Stars has to be high on the list but SUFFRAJET kept on well to win at Kempton and can defy a small rise in the weights.
Ths is the racecard key.
