Dual hurdles winner JOHN THE DIVA has a preference for right-handed tracks and is better judged on his seasonal-debut second at Gowran than his unplaced effort in a Navan handicap last time. The nine-year-old goes well on testing ground so if the forecast rain arrives before this opening contest, it will enhance his prospects. Brucejack was a long way behind the selection at Gowran and would prefer a longer trip, but he is a very experienced handicapper over fences and has to be respected. Additional Time is a point-to-point and hurdles winner and has to enter calculations on his first chase start, while well-bred point winner Banter At The Bar is another to note.

Despite a slightly tame effort in a handicap last time, JOHN THE DIVA has the credentials to win a race of this standard.

Impressive rated novice win here last month; yard won this with Spillane's Tower.

None of these can be ruled out in a tightly-knit affair, with the powerhouse stables of Mullins and Elliott both doubly represented. Slight preference is for the Jimmy Mangan-trained PURE STEEL, who improved from his seasonal debut at Naas, where he finished behind subsequent Fairyhouse winner Jacob's Ladder, to win readily over the extended 2m at this venue. The Yeats gelding was a point-to-point winner at four and may be suited by this step up in trip. Dual course winner Predators Gold, preferred to Kappa Jy Pyke by Paul Townend, was the best of these over hurdles and won on his chase debut over a longer trip at Navan, while The Enabler readily beat more experienced rivals at Fairyhouse.

Effective at around 2m1f on good to soft. Plenty more needed to feature now switching to hurdles. From a good family but has severe limitations judged on his bumper form.

MANIGOD has found one too good at Plumpton on both hurdle starts so far and if he can brush up on his jumping, the five-year-old shapes as though there is certainly a race of this nature within his compass. The penalised runners are also very interesting, although Leicester scorer The Cistercian struggled to concede the extra weight at Haydock last time when only third. With that in mind, Ffos Las winner Legendary Luke could be the main danger.

Interesting rules debutant MR FINCH gets the vote. Legendary Luke, The Cistercian and Manigod bring the best hurdles form.

HAKENSACK has been placed on his last two starts over flights and goes straight into handicap company, off his hurdles mark, on his first chase outing. The seven-year-old ran well in a couple of point-to-points and is ridden by a leading conditional. Duce Bigalow showed much improved form on his second start over fences when runner-up over 2m at Naas and also has the assistance of a talented and in-form rider. Diamond Dollar has shown improvement over hurdles recently and has to enter calculations on chase debut, while three-time hurdles winner Baltinglass Hill is another to consider.

Recent chase form is thin on the ground here, so the race looks ripe for a debutant with HAKENSACK preferred to Diamond Dollar

Record High is the only C&D winner in the field and that is sure to stand him in good stead, but it's still difficult to get away from the progressive ROE AND CO. Jamie Snowden's charge, who is on a four-timer, has improved markedly for going chasing and should appreciate the rise in distance judged on his latest Leicester triumph. Keep an eye on Inedit De Mee too.

The 10yo ANIMAL probably has a better chance than his recent form figures imply with Charlie Deutsch taking over from an amateur.

SIR RODNEYREDBLOOD ran out a decisive winner over 6f here recently and another bold bid is on the cards. The veteran's 4lb penalty is effectively negated by Liam Wright's 5lb claim and a return to 5f shouldn't hamper his bid. Forest Gunner wasn't beaten all that far when finishing sixth at Southwell and is feared most in a first-time visor, ahead of What What What.

The 9yo course specialist SIR RODNEYREDBLOOD won with plenty in hand here on Thursday and is taken to defy a 4lb penalty.

GRINGO D'AUBRELLE looks nicely treated back over fences. The 10-year-old was a good winner on his last outing off a rating of 124 over timber at Navan. He races off 113 over the larger obstacles and Josh Halford takes a useful 7lb off his back. Showurappreciation ran well on his first outing in handicap company over fences when third at Navan. He looks open to further improvement and Derek O'Connor is a positive booking. Nine Graces won this last year, but hasn't shown the same form since. Krabat comes here in winning form and Adam Ryan offsets the 5lb rise he got for that Limerick success.

The 10-year-old GRINGO D'AUBRELLE (nap) does not have much mileage on the clock and is potentially well treated as a chaser

QUEEN'S THEATRE signed off a two-race bumper career with a Plumpton triumph and picked up where she left off on her hurdling debut with a comprehensive victory here. She was always prominent so the slight drop in trip isn't a concern and she can successfully concede weight to Limerick Lass, who went agonisingly close on her own timber bow at Wincanton. Aj's Diamond was out of her depth in Listed company at Huntingdon, but now goes jumping at a more realistic level.

Queen's Theatre has to concede weight to LIMERICK LASS who posted the higher RPR on their hurdling debuts.

Having overcome a troubled passage to score over C&D, a 1lb higher mark looks more than workable for EM FOUR. The four-year-old ticks plenty of the right boxes remaining in a 0-75 contest and he edges the vote over Lady Wingalong. David Evans' mare has been knocking on the door of late and should give another good account of herself. Ziggy's Condor and Ziggy's Queen are feasible alternatives.

Having done well to win an apprentice event here last time, EM FOUR is taken to follow up off just 1lb higher.

Smart Flat performer SOBER looks the pick of the two Willie Mullins-trained runners and should prove the one to beat. The Camelot gelding was last seen winning in fine style at Royal Ascot last summer and struck on his sole outing over timber at Killarney prior to that. This relatively nice ground should suit. Stablemate Free Spirit was successful over hurdles in his native France in June and is an interesting rival. Road Exile battled back to win his maiden hurdle at Navan last month and may want further than this in time.

There are reservations about Sober at this trip. Preference is for ROAD EXILE, a big-field maiden winner at Navan last month

Cushendall joined the Alan King team after making a successful start to her career at Kelso, although the form is nothing to write home about and she lacks the experience and recent match practice of PARK PRINCESS. Anthony Honeyball's six-year-old returned from the sidelines to strike at Ludlow before going down by the narrowest of margins in a Listed event at Haydock. Onefournine was an expensive recruit from the pointing field and can build on her Leicester second.

Back down in class, PARK PRINCESS is the clear form choice. Onefournine and Cushendall are open to progress.

However, this drop in distance may prove a barrier to success for him, which might leave the door open for SERAPHIC. The six-year-old was narrowly denied at Wolverhampton and compensation could be imminent. Twilight Guest is also worth a second look.

With his latest effort boosted when the winner followed up four days later, SERAPHIC gets the vote. Enthused is second pick.

SPRINGHILL WARRIOR may be able to give Gordon Elliott another winner here. The five-year-old ran a big race on his sole outing at Navan back in March when chasing home Positive Energy. That was a solid enough race and, with natural improvement, he could prove the one to beat. Riskabahia is capable of better than she showed first time up over jumps at Navan. The French Flat winner was hampered early on and made little impression at the business end. Smart Flat performer Tyson Fury was a promising fourth on his hurdling debut at Leopardstown over Christmas and is another to consider.

This is a good opportunity for I STARTED A JOKE who has been keeping decent company. He was not beaten far at Limerick last time

HAPPY RETURNS had been finding her feet following a lengthy absence before winning impressively at Wincanton. An 8lb rise makes things tougher, but Neil Mulholland's mare has few miles on the clock for one her age and may well be up to the task. Handicap debutant Mr Griffiths needs to be monitored closely in the market, and Hereford runner-up Woodythewoodpecker should have more to offer over this type of trip.

A chance is taken on WILLIAM PHILO who ran his best race when second on his reappearance last season and is now 10lb lower.

KNIGHT OF MAGIC bolted up in a similar event over 1m3f at Southwell earlier in the week and James Owen's gelding is hard to oppose as a result, despite a 4lb penalty. Sunset In Paris showed more when third in handicap company at Lingfield last time and should not be discounted, while Spaceage Love Song and Prince Hector are the pick of the remainder.

Having belatedly got off the mark in a classified at Southwell on Tuesday, KNIGHT OF MAGIC can follow up that clearcut win.

SAN HILARIO has been knocking on the door and might be able to make the breakthrough, despite creeping up a few pounds. The Gordon Elliott-trained gelding got caught in a bit of a pocket early in the straight at Punchestown last time and finished off strongly on the run-in when chasing home Linden Arden. Going up a bit in trip should help. Plunkett Street was a good winner on his last outing at Thurles and could be a danger, despite his 7lb rise. Happy Dreams has been in fine form and is another who has to be given respect.

ALRIGHT DAI showed his versatility with regards to ground and trip when winning over 3m at Taunton, an effort for which he was raised 4lb. He completed a quickfire double just over 12 months ago, over a similar distance, and it might be that this is the best time to catch him. He has yet to run over fences and that lack of experience could benefit Sanitiser, who has time to do better, despite a couple of below-par chasing efforts. Summer In Milan has proven consistent in both disciplines and can once again be in the thick of things.

Alright Dai is respected on his chase debut but preference is for EVERYONESACRITIC who did so well over fences last term.

As a result, preference is for GAIETY MUSICAL, who has run very well in defeat off this mark the last twice and this could be her day. Diamondonthehill edges out Benacre and Monsieur Kodi to be best of the rest.

With the form of his final effort for George Boughey franked, NORTH VIEW may be the answer. Commander Of Life is second choice.

Paul Nicholls' charge has been given some time off since that latest effort and a return to further, coupled with a switch to handicaps, could see him back in the winning groove. Cast's Tasha went agonisingly close at Leicester so must be respected, along with the likes of last-start winners Bradman and Calshot Spit, who defeated the reopposing Bridge here last month.

Having posted a solid effort switched to handicap level last time, KOOL KID (nap) may well be the answer. Activist is second pick.

KONDRATIEV WAVE has been knocking on the door on his latest starts, with a brace of placed efforts at Lingfield. The most recent of those saw him beaten a head into third over this distance and Tony Carroll's gelding has a solid opportunity to strike. Despite finishing fifth, Strobelight was beaten less than a length at Newcastle last time and a repeat of that would see him enter calculations. Diligent Henry heads the remainder.

Top of the list is the resurgent SECRET ROAD (nap) who made it 2-4 for James Owen when completing a double at Lingfield on Saturday.

GALAXY WONDER was joined on the line to share the spoils at Wolverhampton on Boxing Day and is entitled to have further improvement to come on only his third start for Tony Carroll. Al Waqidi was a beaten favourite over C&D last week, but is capable of a decent showing off the same mark. Others for the shortlist include Brinton and Tam Lin.

Al Waqidi has to be respected after his good C&D run but preference is for GALAXY WONDER who has improvement in him on the AW.
