WEST HILL VERDE has improved with each run over hurdles, chasing home some useful rivals, and arrives following an encouraging third at Ascot. Despite a drop in trip, Seamus Mullins' gelding has a solid opportunity to shed the maiden tag. Hardly Surprising caught the eye at Bangor in November and has to be of interest, while Kiwi Rush was inconvenienced by stumbling badly at Cheltenham and is worth another chance.

The standard is set by WEST HILL VERDE who had Dig Deep behind when third in a good-looking maiden at Ascot.

APACHE GREEN has bounced back to form on his last couple of starts, filling the runner-up spot here before forcing a dead-heat at Kempton on Monday. Sean Woods' gelding was subsequently placed second due to interference, but makes plenty of appeal with the handicapper unable to reassess until next week. Magic Runner is 2lb well-in after winning an apprentices' contest over C&D and has to enter calculations along with Dingwall.

Preference is for dual C&D winner MAGIC RUNNER, who escapes a penalty for her win here last week. Apache Green is the main danger.

Diamond Jim has to be respected following his Haydock success last month, but he may struggle to give 7lb to FEEL GUT. Nicky Henderson's gelding was second on his only start in France and could make up into a top performer in this sphere. Enya and Dream's Ka both showed some ability on their respective debuts and are likely to be in the mix.

Triumph entrant FEEL GUT runs here in preference to a Grade 2 at Cheltenham on Saturday and the chances are he's above average.

One Big Bang has taken well to chasing, with a runner-up effort at Cheltenham backed up by success in a match at Southwell. However, the drop in trip may not benefit the eight-year-old and WESTERN KNIGHT is preferred. Joe Tizzard's gelding took a decent step forward to win at Haydock and the application of a tongue-tie might further aid his cause. Chasing newcomer Roadlesstravelled and Lario head the remainder.

Having shown strong form on both chase starts, ONE BIG BANG earns the vote ahead of Grade 2 novice hurdle winner Roadlesstravelled.

R P MCMURPHY has held his form well since beginning life in handicap company and arrives following his second C&D success last week. The four-year-old may have more to offer and gets the vote, despite being 1lb wrong under a penalty. The veteran Repertoire won on his penultimate start at Lingfield and has since finished a close third at the same venue. Others to note include Forest Caper and Eupator.

This is competitive but the vote goes to the progressive R P MCMURPHY, who made it 2-3 over C&D with his comfortable win 11 days ago.

It was a fine training performance from Sam Allwood to get Irandando Has to make a successful return from over three years off the track at Southwell. The form has been boosted by reopposing fifth Minstrel Knight, who scored at Wetherby, but the vote goes to MINELLA JURY. The grey made a winning debut over hurdles at Uttoxeter and appears capable of further improvement. Legal Weapon's second at Newbury gives him every chance of being in the mix too.

Bumper winner LEGAL WEAPON was a clear second behind an odds-on winner at Newbury last month and is taken to go one better.

OBJECTOR ran out a comfortable winner on his racecourse debut over C&D and connections have found a simple opportunity for him to gain more experience. His opponents all have plenty to find, with Hunterian looking the most likely to chase him home after his second here earlier in the month. A wind operation may see Extraterrestrial in a better light and he could get the better of Al Bowlly in the battle for third.

Having created a favourable impression on debut, OBJECTOR can maintain his unbeaten record. Hunterian can chase him home.

With most of these having questions to answer, it is hard to oppose JOUR D'EVASION. Henry Daly's gelding has won his last two starts very impressively and even a 10lb rise for the latest of those victories may not be enough to stop him in this company. Excelero disappointed when favourite at Ascot last time but is a player based on his previous C&D win, while Cobbler's Boy is next best.

The one with least to prove is JOUR D'EVASION, who ended last year in excellent form and is taken to complete a hat-trick.

Having tasted success in three out of his last four starts, Fingal's Hill has to be respected on his return to action but the one who appeals most is SMOKERINGINTHEDARK. The Nicky Richards-trained six-year-old only found subsequent Lanzarote fourth Fasol too good at Musselburgh on New Year's Day and competes off an unchanged rating. Guard Duty is another to note.

Having been placed in competitive handicaps on his two starts this season, GUARD DUTY (nap) can return to winning ways.

LOQUELLA made the perfect start to her career at Newcastle and although a penalty could leave her vulnerable, the daughter of No Nay Never looks sure to take a step forward. Preferred shaped with real promise when fourth at Chelmsford on debut and appears capable of making a race of it, while Fair Y Isle was third over 7f here and appeals most of the remainder.

This looks tricky but FAIR Y ISLE is open to more progress on this drop in trip and she gets the vote ahead of Loquella.

JAMAICAINE has proven a different proposition the last twice, justifying favouritism in comfortable style at Hereford on both occasions, and the seven-year-old is progressing at a rapid rate of knots. This looks another good opportunity and she can continue on her upward curve. Vanilla Dancer produced an improved display when making the frame at Catterick and is one to keep an eye on, along with Newcastle third Joto.

The thriving JAMAICAINE should be very tough to beat in her hat-trick bid. She again had plenty in hand at Hereford last week.

Midnight Call is favoured on these terms, but it might instead pay to side with PIPERSTOWN. Kevin Frost's charge showed promise over C&D last month before taking a further step forward to break his losing sequence. The drop into classified company is no bad thing and he is fancied to complete a double. Superior Council didn't see out 7f at Newcastle on Tuesday, but he ought to fare better back sprinting.

Mintana and Piperstown are high on the list but SUPERIOR COUNCIL (nap) could take some pegging back from a handy draw.

The step up in trip might have been the key to that and he's given another chance. Just Four Fame has an absence to overcome but did go well when last sighted here, albeit over much further. Keep Midnight View in mind too.

Tim Vaughan's mare CONNIEMAK took a big step forward when placed at Hereford last month and might be the answer here.

JUKEBOX D'EDDY arrives on the back of two victories last month and even an 8lb rise for the latest of those wins may not be enough to stop him from rounding out the hat-trick. Kalhandrion made a successful chasing debut at Huntingdon before a decent Uttoxeter third and is the logical threat. Finn Lough is the pick of the remainder.

Most of these can be given a chance but THE LONG POINT is likely to come good over fences sooner or later. His yard is in form.

BEAUZON let favourite-backers down over C&D earlier this month, but wasted little time in compensating them at Lingfield six days later. Most of his rivals have a little to prove, as can often be expected in these types of contest, so he should be too strong under a 4lb penalty. Eldeyaar could fare better dropped in class, and Bossy Parker is more than capable too.

Beauzon is greatly respected but MY BOY JACK has headgear back on over his optimum C&D and Billy Loughnane is booked.

HOUSE OF HABSBURG could be a really smart staying chaser on the evidence of his last-start Uttoxeter success. Unexposed over fences and over these type of trips, Christian Williams' charge ran a blinder in defeat here last month and confirmed that promise at the Midlands venue before Christmas, leaving a lasting impression. He's taken to prove too strong for He Knows Better and Kalista Love.

AN LAOCHMOR ran nicely on his yard debut last week and remains unexposed on the all-weather. The five-year-old is a 15-race maiden, but he has shown form on turf and his rating has fallen 13lb in just under a year to a manageable level. He has raced just twice previously on this surface and should be suited by dropping back down in distance. Hero Of The Hour is a seven-time winner who ran well over C&D last month, although he is 3lb higher and is also without his last-start rider's 10lb claim. Ballysax Lil' Mick has won just once from 25 starts, but is able at this level.

AN LAOCHMOR caught the eye on his first run for Danny Murphy and further improvement is likely from a better draw

PASSING PLEASURE landed the odds with the minimum of fuss over fences at Catterick and that followed a hurdling success at Musselburgh. The six-year-old is clearly progressing well and could defy a 9lb rise in the ratings. Romeo Brown and Mask Of Zorro are obvious threats as they also arrive on the back of multiple victories. The unexposed The Two Harrys should not be discounted, while Milan Park merits each-way consideration.

A good few with chances. Moving up to this trip could prove a significant benefit to THE TWO HARRYS who is making his handicap debut.

Unbeaten in his last three outings, Lazzar is bound to attract plenty of support, but the value may lie with EL BUFALO. Thomas Faulkner's charge went in by half a length over track and trip on Boxing Day and the assessor only put him up 2lb for that victory. If in similar form, he could be the one to beat. Street Life isn't ruled out either.

Lazzar is the obvious starting point but his wins have come over 6f and EL BUFALO is a viable alternative over today's trip.

Golden Son hasn't been seen since finishing third at Newbury last March but commands respect at this level, while Slipway is another to note.

Seemingly in career-best form when winning a Leicester handicap by over 9l last month, JET PLANE looks the one to beat.

JAWHARY ended a four-year losing spell last month and followed up last week. Rated 77 at his peak in 2022, he likes the surface and while cutting back in trip isn't ideal, he is worth sticking with. Aingeal Dorcha has only recently tried the all-weather, but has some good form of late and should figure under his usual 7lb claimer. Porsche Lad scored over C&D in November, but was well enough held here recently. Four-time track-and-trip winner Autocrat ran well over 2m here a week ago, but has top weight.

It's hard to get away from HACKNEY DIAMONDS, who regained the winning thread in good fashion at Southwell recently. With Ryan Kavanagh negating her 5lb penalty courtesy of his claim, she could prove a tough nut to crack. Nivelle's Magic has filled the runner-up spot in each of her last three outings and may have to settle for a supporting role again, while Cardinal Point is another to watch out for.

Nivelle's Magic and Cardinal Point are respected but slight preference is for recent Southwell winner HACKNEY DIAMONDS.

IMOLA had the measure of Amarachi (second) over C&D before pushing an in-form rival all the way at Wolverhampton under a penalty. The daughter of Calyx is actually 4lb well-in and while on good terms with herself, she appears to have another excellent chance. Coramento was unable to land the hat-trick at Newcastle, but he did get the better of Imola there in November and should not be underestimated.

An open race but a chance is taken that the return to Southwell can see QUITE SWEET belatedly build on her cosy C&D win in November.

This will not take much winning and LADY DORA MAE is expected to shed her maiden tag. The daughter of Space Blues was caught on the line when making her stable debut at Lingfield, but that was a step forward from her first start and returning to a mile can unlock even more improvement. Silky Lass hit the woodwork at Newcastle, although an official rating of 63 would suggest she'll need more to land the spoils. Vizija is also noted.

Lady Dora Mae and Silky Lass are major players on form but VIZIJA is an interesting alternative.

ANOTHER DAY DONE easily won an ordinary handicap over C&D and can follow up in this tougher race. A half-brother to a three-time winner, he took time to show form but having found his feet 10 days ago, should continue to progress and has a race-fitness edge over some of his principal rivals. Miami Destination finished fourth at Group 3 level in May before struggling in the Marble Hill a week later and has been absent since. She rises in distance on her first start as a three-year-old and also debuts on the all-weather. Whatchadoin steps up in trip too, but has course form and met some trouble on his latest start.

The Lope De Vega filly remains open to improvement and, from a handy draw, she might find the necessary progression. Mayo County heads the remainder.

A chance is taken that HEART OF ETERNITY will step forward considerably following her yard debut. From a smart Godolphin family, she showed nice ability in three runs in the UK last summer before selling for 10,000gns in October. She started a big outsider on that recent stable bow and while well beaten, she was eased and looks likely to build on that showing in a moderate maiden. Mveve is more reliable, if more limited, while Royal Impact ran satisfactorily here in December. Soldier's Tree showed ability on his belated introduction last month.

Robson De Aguiar is 3-6 at Dundalk this year and REPOSADO has been found a good opportunity on stable debut after a gelding operation

DOWN TO THE KID was a model of consistency for much of the first half of 2025 and has picked up where he left off, going close over a mile here before justifying favouritism over C&D. A 3lb rise isn't exactly harsh and he can follow up, possibly at the chief expense of Golden Pharaoh, who has been denied in tight finishes on his last three appearances. Giorgio M ended a bit of a dry spell at Lingfield just before Christmas and is another to consider.

Being a rock-solid contender who remains unexposed at this trip, DOWN TO THE KID (nap) is taken to follow up his latest course win.

At the age of 10, Eligible has suddenly discovered a new zest for life, although a further 6lb rise may thwart his hat-trick bid. King Of Ithaca also arrives in winning form after registering his fourth track-and-trip triumph shortly before Christmas, but HITCHED is taken to gain a deserved success. David Simcock's six-year-old has made the frame in four of his last five outings and is 1lb well-in following last week's narrow Wolverhampton defeat.

If a break has done him good then FEEL THE NEED might be the answer. Tolstoy is an enigma but could easily run well.

By a leading sire, she has found only one too strong the last twice and was hampered by the winner when narrowly beaten here a fortnight ago. Full Moon Tonight stayed on from off the pace on her debut and while beaten five lengths into third, she should progress at this longer trip. Wayne Lordan is an interesting booking for debutant Life Well Led, with the 80-rated Flanker Jet another to consider.

FORTIFICATION was an expensive breeze-up purchase so it will have been a tough decision to geld him. That probably played a part in helping him break through at Wolverhampton, though, and he can take the necessary step forward to defy an opening mark of 81. Magic Stone had Baker Blue half a length behind when third on his all-weather debut and didn't get the rub of the green so should be able to confirm his superiority. Guernsey Angel beat a subsequent winner over C&D so commands attention too.

Preference is for GUERNSEY ANGEL, who has solid form since racing in AW handicaps. Fortification is second choice.

MY VONNIE is a 14-race maiden who was a beaten joint-favourite here a fortnight ago, but can score in first-time blinkers. She seemed to find some form in recent months and although well held on her latest start, that was when dropping to a mile and she is better suited by this trip. Three-time winner Satono Chevalier was rated 84 at his peak and debuts for a new yard having finished third in an ordinary claimer in November. He has slipped down the weights and can figure. Palmezzano ran well in a recent handicap and goes back up in distance.

Fourth over C&D last time after not getting a clear run, BAILA CONMIGO is still lightly raced and has scope to improve

Tuba was unable to back up his Wolverhampton triumph when third at Lingfield, but that was still a fair effort and he is noted. Edwardtheninth made the frame over C&D last time and is another to consider, but the vote goes to GRAND DUCHESS OLGA. The daughter of Sir Percy was beaten a neck into second in this grade at Wolverhampton last week and a similar performance might suffice.

In-form maiden EDWARDTHENINTH may be able to get off the mark. Tuba is second pick.

KARAKULA DANCER showed a big chunk of improvement when recording his first career success at Lingfield and may have been worth more than the winning margin suggests. With the potential for further improvement, the son of Palace Pier looks the one to side with. First-time cheekpieces brought about a better effort from Reason's Power when a close-up third at Chelmsford and she has to be taken seriously. Grey Sands completes the shortlist.

With cheekpieces added, GREY SANDS could well build on his latest Dundalk effort and go one better. Karakula Dancer is second pick.
