HARLINGTON bounced back to form when filling second place over 1m4f at Southwell a week ago and the five-year-old could go one better here. Hawaiian King has shown promise on both handicap starts to date and he should not be underestimated, while similar comments apply to Rogue Identity. Recent C&D second Pride Of Nepal is another with valid form claims.

The vote goes to HARLINGTON who was second on his stable debut at Southwell last Saturday and is a big player if he can back that up.

An ideal type for this assignment, having performed creditably in C&D events this term.

Record of 122 switched to fences this term for new yard; form has substance; solid.

Won at Kempton on Boxing Day; this low-mileage 7yo looks likely to improve further.

Effective from 2m to 2m4f and handles soft ground. Fairly treated on best French form but unreliable. French mare who seems more exposed than most of these British rivals.

A contest that has proven to be an invaluable source for finding Cheltenham Festival winners, with four of the last seven scorers going on to complete the double. Anthony Honeyball boasts a strong hand with two progressive types in Jordans Cross and KDEUX SAINT FRAY. The former recovered from falling at the last here when scoring at Doncaster and he remains with significant potential after a 4lb rise. However, the vote goes to his stable companion, who won the aforementioned November contest before filling the runner-up spot at Aintree behind a rival who scored at Windsor last week. The six-year-old would likely need to win well to guarantee his spot at the Festival and this fourth run over fences gives him the chance to run in open handicaps. Barlovento improved from his chasing bow at Exeter to win at Kempton and has to be respected with the likelihood of more to come. Others to note are Califet En Vol and Push The Button.

This looks the perfect next step for CALIFET EN VOL (nap), who is first choice ahead of Barlovento.

Second to Highland Crystal at Newbury; 5lb better off here but improvement still needed.

Proven up to 12f on the all-weather but still to demonstrate stamina for hurdles and hard to fancy here. Modest maiden on the Flat and tailed off at Warwick last month on sole hurdle start.

HIGHLAND CRYSTAL confirmed the promise of her impressive debut success when readily beating Tralee Girl in a similar event to this at Newbury in November. With the prospect of further improvement to come, Gordon Elliott's filly could be hard to beat. Manlaga won her only start in France and has to be respected on her debut for top connections. The aforementioned Tralee Girl and Manganese are the pick of the remainder.

Manlaga is certainly of interest but preference is for HIGHLAND CRYSTAL, who impressed in November when winning her first two races.

Sprint-bred and can only do better than on that terrible debut. Well-bred filly but was tailed off on her Southwell debut last month.

STAR OF ALBION has progressed with each start and he was only beaten a neck into second over C&D on his most recent outing. The first-time application of blinkers may bring about the required improvement to see him get off the mark. Lovethiswayagain could be a big threat if returning at her best, while Somebody is the clear pick of the remainder.

Preference is for STAR OF ALBION, who has a progressive profile and was only narrowly denied over C&D on his last run in September.

Maestro Conti looked a smart prospect on his UK debut when following up his Moulins success with an impressive display at Kempton over Christmas. Prominent in the Triumph Hurdle betting, he commands the utmost respect but having to give 3lb to MINELLA YOGA could be a tough task. Bought for 360,000 pounds after winning at Fairyhouse in November, he managed to get the better of the well-regarded Act Of Innocence (runs 4:10) at Newbury when in receipt of a hefty weight-for-age allowance and that piece of form may be the strongest on offer. The admirable One Horse Town's winning run came to an end here, but he is entitled to be in the mix along with Finale winner Tenter Le Tout.

Minella Yoga and Maestro Conti are clearly promising but Leopardstown maiden winner HARDY STUFF is improving.

KENZOKO produced his best effort so far when runner-up on his handicap debut over C&D and the handicapper has left him on the same mark. He has further assistance with Lewis Saunders taking 3lb off and this appears to be a winnable contest on paper. Lexie's Moon bounced back to form when second at Fontwell and she is capable of being in the mix. El Jefe completes the shortlist.

Preference is for well-handicapped class-dropper EL JEFE (nap), who kept on strongly for second at Haydock just before Christmas.

THEDEVILUNO has proven to be a consistent performer and arrives here on the back of a second in Grade 2 company over 2m4f at Navan. The seven-year-old may improve for this step up in trip and should not be underestimated. Rocking Man beat Carlenrig when they met in a Chepstow maiden hurdle in November, but the runner-up went on to win at this level at Cheltenham. With that in mind, Dan Skelton's charge may be able to reverse the form, despite a 5lb penalty.

There are interesting contenders aplenty in a deep-looking River Don. KICOUR LA and Country Code are particularly appealing.

Recent Chelmsford maiden winner Cool Molly has to be noted now switched to handicap company, while the consistent Mad Unicorn edges out Filly Foden and Nebrook Star to be the pick of the remainder.

This can go to FAR TOO FIZZY (nap), who was an easy winner here on Wednesday and looks well treated under a penalty.

JAGWAR was hugely progressive in his first season over fences, which culminated in him winning the Plate over C&D at the Festival. His jumping left a lot to be desired on that occasion, and again when third on his return in the December Gold Cup, but connections still believe he is capable of reaching a higher level and victory here may lead him towards a Ryanair tilt. Booster Bob was a remarkable winner of the Greatwood Gold Cup at Newbury last March and looked a more straightforward ride when returning to the same venue in November. Despite going up 9lb, he remains capable of further improvement. The shortlist is completed by Triple Trade and Prairie Wolf.

Jagwar will be a tough nut to crack but JAVERT ALLEN is an interesting alternative in receipt of lumps of weight.

Halftheworldaway placed at Wetherby on Boxing Day and the drop in trip may see her in a better light. Others to note are hurdling newcomer Jet Steel and Up To Trix.

That said, preference is for FEET OF A DANCER, who won a Listed event at Punchestown in November and only found the high-class Wodhooh too good at Leopardstown over Christmas. Dream On Baby was third on the latter occasion and could make the frame once again.

Sam's Xpress made all to score impressively over C&D before following up in similar fashion at Wolverhampton. A 5lb rise for that latest success looks fair, but he won't have things all his own way given the early speed of Mick's Spirit, which could give the ideal setup to TOOLATETONEGOTIATE. Daisy Hitchins' filly followed up a track-and-trip triumph with two solid efforts, although it is a drop in class that could be key.

Top of the list is SAM'S XPRESS, who is 4-8 for his current yard and hit a personal best when making all at Wolverhampton last time.

J'ARRIVE DE L'EST posted a solid effort on his debut for current connections with an encouraging second to Final Orders over C&D last month. That was his first start outside of France and came after a 264-day break. Sure to be wiser to the demands of this course, he can gain his revenge on the reopposing winner. Favori De Champdou was still in contention when he fell in that race, before springing a shock in the Paddy Power at Leopardstown over Christmas, and can go close.

David Cottin's PLACENET was stalking the leaders before his bad jumping error here last month and gets the vote.

Sunnyvilla improved from his return at Haydock when finishing second at the same venue last month and he is likely to be competitive along with Xcitations.

Having continued his upward trajectory when landing Ascot's Silver Cup, Deep Cave merits the utmost respect in his quest for a four-timer. A 2lb higher mark is unlikely to halt his progress, but unexposed stayer GRAND GESTE may prove to be slightly better treated. The Joel Parkinson & Sue Smith-trained gelding was impressive when landing the Tommy Whittle and a 10lb hike looks surmountable. Last year's winner Docpickedme and Josh The Boss are others of interest.

The 7yo GRAND GESTE (nap) is the latest staying chase success story for the Parkinson/Smith yard, and he can follow up his Haydock win.

SONNERIE POWER was overlooked in the betting at Kempton following a 10-month absence and a change of yard, but that didn't stop him from recording a cosy success. The seven-year-old won't mind returning to further and given that he remains extremely well treated from 5lb higher, a similar level of performance should be more than good enough. Jack Langley continues to find steady improvement, while Hebridean Nomad and The Bay Warrior are a couple of others to consider.

The way SONNERIE POWER cruised through most of the race at Kempton recently suggests this one-time useful 7yo can cope with a 5lb rise.

With last year's winner L'Homme Presse potentially gearing up for a tilt at the Grand National and Spillane's Tower having options open to him at the Festival back here, bold showings can be expected from both high-calibre chasers. However, GREY DAWNING is a model of consistency and his return to winning ways in the Betfair at Haydock was a statement performance. This trip seems ideal for Dan Skelton's admirable grey these days and he could be tough to overhaul. Dual Stayers' Hurdle hero Flooring Porter won over fences on the Old Course here as a novice, but he faces a mammoth task on his first run since landing the Kerry National in September 2024.

Last year's winner L'Homme Presse is respected but won't find it easy with GREY DAWNING who won the Betfair with plenty in hand.

KARUMA GREY bounced back to form when filling second place at Ffos Las earlier in the month and a repeat of that level of form would give him a big chance here. My Noble Lord is capable of going well in a race of this nature and may benefit from the reapplication of cheekpieces. Master Breffni and Abbeydale are others to note.

None of these are entirely convincing. MY NOBLE LORD has the cheekpieces back on and he should go close if seeing out the trip.

Noble Park's less-than-fluent jumping may have been the reason for his failed hat-trick bid at Kempton and it is too soon to be writing him off. Nicky Henderson's inmate is feared most, ahead of Newton Tornado.

My Boy Harry, who defeated Kondratiev Wave at Chelmsford, and Jackson Street are likely to prove popular, but a chance can be taken on ALYARA. The daughter of Cable Bay was travelling strongly in behind the leaders when meeting all sorts of trouble over C&D. There was plenty of encouragement to be taken from that effort and it was her first outing in three months. She hasn't been the easiest to win with previously, but that could present some value.

As events are unfolding, the unbeaten SIR GINO has the potential to rule the roost in the two-mile hurdle division for quite some time and he is very difficult to see beyond. The Nicky Henderson-trained star returned from a well-documented training setback with an exemplary display in the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton. His cruising speed and jumping efficiency will mean only outstanding performances from The New Lion and Nemean Lion will suffice if he is to be toppled here. Brentford Hope is rated 25lb inferior to Sir Gino and would be a surprise winner.

This race features a highly fascinating clash between SIR GINO and The New Lion who head the Champion Hurdle betting.

The 10-year-old made the frame at Haydock on his return and he is entitled to improve significantly for that outing. In The Age is likely to be popular on his handicap debut after his Catterick win, while Orderoftheday completes the shortlist.

Although WARRIORS DESTINY was well held when third in a Warwick maiden last time, that form is working out positively.

Donald McCain's charge is a previous C&D winner and it would be no surprise to see him go in again. Mighty Bandit boasts an appealing profile after scoring on his second chase outing at Newbury and he is likely to have more to offer. Of the remainder, Milan Tino makes the most appeal.

Having got the better of Strong Leader on his last two outings, IMPOSE TOI makes plenty of appeal. The eight-year-old has scored with something in hand in Newbury's Long Distance Hurdle and the Long Walk at Ascot and he's difficult to oppose. Ma Shantou has progressed through the handicap ranks this season and shouldn't be underestimated given that he has won on his last two visits to Cheltenham. Emma Lavelle's charge receives 6lb from the selection and is feared most.

Point-to-point winner Elderflower Tonic changed hands for 80,000 pounds in November and would be of interest if the market speaks in her favour. However, HOBBSON'S DAY shaped with promise when second on his introduction at Newton Abbot and would have learned a great deal from that experience. If the six-year-old takes a step forward, he could prove hard to beat. Twenties Icon is another to keep an eye on.

The market should be monitored for clues but the verdict goes to Peter Niven's POPALOT who shaped nicely when third at Market Rasen.

The vote goes to BETTIES BAY, who returned from just over 14 months off the track when scoring at Wolverhampton at the start of the month and a 3lb rise could underestimate her. Others to consider are Lahina Bay and Invincible Melody.

The four-year-old scored with something in hand and she may make light work of a 3lb higher rating. Noss Mayo arrives on the back of a close-up second at Chelmsford and could serve the most resistance to the selection, ahead of Alpine Sierra.

Alpine Sierra and Noss Mayo are respected but STAR CAST is fancied to defy a 3lb rise for her recent breakthrough success.

Although turned over at 2/7 when a close-up second at Newbury, Act Of Innocence lost little in defeat against a well-weighted juvenile. Nicky Henderson's gelding is a potential improver stepping up in distance and isn't taken lightly, but the unbeaten TAURUS BAY is slightly more compelling at the forecast prices. The five-year-old has impressed on both outings under Rules and he looks ready for this step up in class. Heads Up is also worth a second look.

The unbeaten TAURUS BAY impressed when convincingly accounting for a useful yardstick at Aintree last month and earns the vote.

David Pipe's charge now takes a step back up in distance on his handicap bow and could defy an opening rating of 100. Richardson was last of five on his return at Leicester, but might be worth another chance. Rock On Tommy completes the shortlist.

The veteran RICHARDSON goes well on soft ground and gets the vote ahead of fellow C&D winner Tarbuck.

Having found himself with too much to do when finishing a never-nearer third at Chelmsford recently, BISHOP'S GLORY should appreciate a return to the straight 5f. The six-year-old looks more than capable of scoring at this level and is worth persevering with. Korroor returned to form with a respectable third in handicap company over 6f here and warrants a second look, along with Beneficiary.

Beneficiary can bounce back to form at this level but WEE MARY shaped with some promise last time and this could be her day.

This may be dominated by See That Spark and MILLION GOLD, with the latter open to more improvement. Mick Appleby's colt did plenty wrong when making a winning debut at Kempton last month and he will have learned plenty from the experience. See That Spark posted a solid second on his handicap bow here and should give his running once more, with Nursia the pick of the remainder.

Germanic struck over 6f here on his penultimate start and could get involved if reproducing that level of form, but the vote goes to QUINAULT. Stuart Williams' charge made the frame in the Champions Sprint at Ascot in October and should have too much class for these.

A trappy race in which GERMANIC is given another to chance to prove himself well treated on AW. Carbine Harvester is next best.

Bright returned to winning ways over track and trip and is noted, but a 4lb higher mark might open the door for ZIGGY'S CONDOR. The five-year-old has been thereabouts for a while now, most recently finishing third at Chelmsford, and he could be rewarded for his consistency. True Promise was just denied over track and trip last week, and The Turpinator can't be ruled out either.

Bright is a major player but the return to 6f and fitting of headgear could be the catalyst for ALFA WHITEBURD to return to form.

Ana Emaraaty is versatile regarding distance and is unlikely to be far away. However, he has fallen short when trying to exploit a slight drop in the ratings and could again be vulnerable. A safer option might be WOODRAFFF, who is a C&D winner and took a step back in the right direction with a respectable third in similar company last time out. Pit Boss is another to note.

The strong late run of WOODRAFFF at Southwell three weeks ago suggests he can deal with this mark. Ana Emaraaty can chase him home.

Having backed up two seconds with a pleasing win at Southwell last week, RELEVANT RANGE has done well in similar events since joining Ivan Furtado. A wide draw was punishing for the son of Starspangledbanner when he attempted to follow up at Wolverhampton on Monday and he is well worth another chance given he sets the standard on official ratings. Balqaa is a dual C&D winner with solid claims at this level, while That Lucas Fella shouldn't be taken lightly.

Preference is for RELEVANT RANGE (nap) who has been in really good form since joining Ivan Furtado. Balqaa is second choice.
