GAELIC ROVER has a likeable pedigree and his two previous starts over hurdles were highly encouraging. Those efforts suggest he has banished the memory of a couple of falls in point-to-points and further progression could see the son of Walk In The Park get off the mark here. Who's Glen commands respect, cutting back in trip after a promising hurdles over 2m4f at Musselburgh. However, a bigger danger could be the Haydock bumper winner, So Proud, who could be anything now he tackles obstacles for the first time.

Having run well to be placed on both hurdle starts, GAELIC ROVER is taken to get off the mark. So Proud is the stand-out danger.

CORAL RIVER squeezes into today's race with a hurdling rating of 120 and has good chase form. Placed third in a series final at Punchestown last April, the selection bounced back with two useful chase runs at that course in recent months and has plenty in his favour. Union Station ran well at Leopardstown over Christmas but drops markedly in distance, while Torquay Road ran well at Down Royal but would prefer a sounder surface. Seven months separated Strutter's two most recent wins and the seven-year-old now has a 384-day absence to overcome on chase debut.

Current form, trip, ground and a touch of class over the others should see CORAL RIVER gain a first win over fences at the 3rd attempt

GOLAN LOOP shaped with real promise on his chasing debut, finishing second, and he made no mistake at Hereford next time. Warren Greatrex's charge has had little exposure to the larger obstacles and, with that in mind, he's fancied to follow up off 6lb higher. Clotilda has occupied the runner-up spot on each of her last two starts, most recently over 2m4f here, and she could find progress at this longer trip. Class-dropper Major Fortune enters calculations, and don't rule out Mombasa, who will attempt to get back on track having endured an interrupted career so far.

Preference is for MAJOR FORTUNE who ran well at Cheltenham before struggling in the face of a stiff task last time.

IS THIS FOR REAL won quite a decent bumper at Kelso last term and built on his hurdling-debut fourth when filling the same position but finishing much closer to the winner at Taunton. He can make it third-time lucky over timber, with Freddie Steady Go feared most on his first crack at obstacles. Madame La Papillon ran a stormer for second when 80/1 at Wetherby, but she needs to back that performance up.

Preference is for MADAME LA PAPILLON, who chased home a useful prospect at Wetherby and sets the standard on that eyecatching effort.

MIDLETON RARE debuts over fences but has plenty of jumping experience and scored here on New Year's Day. Despite an 8lb rise from the handicapper, he might progress some more. Ag Obair Go Crua has improved in recent months and can enter calculations following his win at Tramore last time. One And Only's sole success came over hurdles in 2024 but he ran well at Limerick over Christmas and could build on that display.

MIDLETON RARE landed a gamble here over hurdles on New Year's Day and he will be hard to beat if he can transfer that form to fences

WALKINTHEWOODS stepped forward from his fourth at Hereford when runner-up here over hurdles at the start of last month and the switch to fences gives him every chance of returning to winning ways. Evan Williams' gelding was last seen winning for the first time over fences at Plumpton in May and his rider's claim further aids his cause. Staff Sergeant Len had every chance when unseating at Wincanton on Boxing Day and is respected along with Shot Boii.

Assuming their jumping holds up better late this time than at Wincanton, STAFF SERGEANT LEN and Anytrixwilldo can fight this out.

The Kool Kompany gelding finished second on his first two starts over timber and didn't appear to stay an extended 2m5f at Ascot next time. He sets a decent standard dropped in trip though and is expected to be too strong for Unknown Entity and One Island.

Unknown Entity ran a nice race at Ludlow but he'll need to take a significant step forward if he's to trouble GAELIC PRIDE.

FAT HARRY, a winner at Sedgefield in November before landing a similar event over C&D winner on his penultimate start, was narrowly denied registering a hat-trick by an in-form rival at Haydock most recently. Well clear of the rest in that race, a 6lb higher mark may not be enough to anchor the improving chaser at this stage of his development. His stablemate, top-weight Glen Road, gives the Joel Parkinson & Sue Smith team a good chance of domination here. Moon Phases and Powerofjet complete the shortlist.

The selection's initial form was ordinary but last season showed progression in handicaps and scored at today's venue in November. He was well enough held in third at Punchestown on his latest start but he is capable of further improvement. Coyote Spirit ran well on handicap debut at Leopardstown over Christmas and commands plenty of respect. Heron's Butler appears best of the remainder following his second at Thurles in November.

CATCHINTSAVO clearly needed his first run over hurdles at Cheltenham and left that well behind when runner-up at Hereford in December. Anthony Honeyball has been in fine fettle of late with his novice hurdlers and the six-year-old can continue that vein of form. Not At That Price placed in a Uttoxeter bumper in October and is likely to enter calculations on hurdling debut, while Last Round and Idaho Fire head the remainder.

Having produced a much better effort when second at Hereford last time, CATCHINTSAVO is the pick. Not At That Price is feared most.

Multiple point winner Wolf Walker has done well since switching to hurdles, finishing second on both occasions, and can be expected to go close once again. However, it is SINCHI ROCA that shades preference. Syd Hosie's charge fetched 70,000 pounds at the sales and has been thrown in at the deep end in bumpers this term. He makes his hurdling debut in only a moderate event and it would come as no surprise were he to prove good enough. Liam Mera Kai can take home some more minor money.

That said, Lewisham Grove has been knocking on the door of late and should not be discounted, while similar comments apply to Timefortom. Any market support for Bathara would have to be noted.

Point winner TIMEFORTOM has finished runner-up on both hurdle starts and is selected to get off the mark under rules this afternoon.

Puma's Dream showed promise on his second start at Naas last month, while Premier Rouge can benefit from his jumps debut at Thurles.

He appears likely to be the main threat, while Kara Sacre and Plains Drifter complete the shortlist.

After justifying favouritism to complete a double at Uttoxeter, Postponed Legacy is sure to attract support. However, a 10lb rise asks for more and that might open the door for UGO BINGO, who finished fourth in a warmer event over C&D on Boxing Day and was dropped 2lb. The seven-year-old was just touched off into second when last seen at this level at Exeter in October and he looks the one to side with. No Guarantee completes the shortlist.

This is competitive but the forecast rain tips the scales in favour of MORNING MAYHEM, who excelled on heavy ground two starts ago.

The forecast better ground may well be a boost for JAMESIECONN (nap) on his second yard start. He's the pick ahead of Mighty Fleur.

NOEMIE DE LA VIS can make a winning start for Willie Mullins. The French-bred filly was runner-up on her sole start at Compiegne last April. The winner has since placed in Listed company, while she also had a Listed winner back in fourth that day. Point-to-point winner Sound Judgement ran a solid race when third on her Rules debut at Punchestown and should benefit from stepping up in trip. Dee's Lady may improve from her comeback run and is a player on the pick of her form last season.

A winner at Stratford in October, the seven-year-old finished second on his only subsequent start the following month and may improve for a wind operation since that outing. The Grey Man showed more when fourth at Ffos Las most recently and edges out Zoeman to be the pick of the remainder.

Third over 2m in his first two chases, ZOEMAN (nap) has shaped as though this longer trip will suit and he gets the nod.

KING OF THE ROAD's second-placed finish at Kempton on Boxing Day reads well and this ease in class gives him a good chance of brushing a side a 4lb rise. Going right-handed suits the selection, while the forecast going should be very much to his liking. The last-time-out winners One Eye On Vegas and Light Fandango command obvious respect based on recent form, while Meatloaf is a previous course winner that could also have a big say.

An open race may go to KING OF THE ROAD who was clear of the rest when pushing an improver all the way at Kempton.

DROP KICK has made the frame on both starts since winning at Carlisle in November and, given the lack of depth in this contest, it would be no surprise to see him return to winning ways on this occasion. Sugar Road has not shown much over hurdles yet, but may find significant improvement now switched to handicap company. Others to consider are Cher Monsieur and Leader Wing.

It might be worth taking a chance with LUMINARIES, who is 3-3 over C&D and is well handicapped if he can revive back in trip.

PAT'S LEGACY has run with credit in a couple of strong maiden hurdles and looks up to scoring at this level. The Walk In The Park gelding finished fifth behind Murat at Leopardstown over Christmas and this looks a much easier opportunity. Needs Must has a mark of 108 after three runs in better contests and he should be a big player in this company. Point-to-point winner Somersby Roost is another to consider.

Only a few of these make any appeal and PAT'S LEGACY will be hard to beat, seeing that he held his own in a strong maiden last time

Demoiselle Kap has to be respected on her return to action, but her lack of a recent run may just give the edge to IP UP. The eight-year-old has been running consistently well in defeat of late and those efforts suggest that she can be successful off her current mark. Others to note are Jammy Jay, Tour Ovalie and Railway Bell.

Having caught the eye last time, UFOURIA might be worth chancing on handicap debut, though Demoiselle Kap isn't passed over lightly.

TURNDLIGHTSDOWNLOW was a close second to an upwardly mobile rival at Sandown last month. Given that effort came on the back of a couple of facile handicap wins at Kempton, the progressive six-year-old is hard to ignore, despite a 7lb rise. The low-mileage A Perfect Day has also adapted well to handicaps, with his Lingfield win creating the hope of plenty more to come. David Pipe trained the winner of this race 12 months ago and his Punta Del Este is another interesting option.

The 6yo TURNDLIGHTSDOWNLOW smacks of a stayer on the upgrade and his consistency gives him a further edge over some of these.

THE JAD FACTOR signed off last season with a commanding win at Kelso before springing a surprise to score on his return at Wetherby last month. A 5lb rise looks a little harsh given the winning margin but he's still low-mileage for a 10-year-old and the introduction of a visor could eke out a bit more. Tommy Combats was defeated by the reopposing Too Cool Forshrule at Ayr in November but that was his seasonal return and progress is anticipated. Chasing debutant Always A Reason is worth a second look too.

This might go to EMOTIONAL ROLLER, who will presumably be ridden very positively over this shorter trip in first-time blinkers.

BLUE REED wouldn't be winning out of turn here. He bumped into an unexposed type at Punchestown on New Year's Eve and, despite a 4lb rise for that effort, he's capable of going close. Stepping back up in trip now may help as he was runner-up twice over this distance last season. My Good Pal has been knocking on the door and remains on the same mark as when third over course and distance last month. The lowly-rated Yoursimplythebest has also been running consistently and is another that has to be considered.

Similar comments apply to stable companion St Cuthbert's Cave, whilst previous course winner Take All and Java Point are a couple of others to be interested in.

All of these have claims, but marginal preference is for IRON BRIDGE. The 10-year-old was only beaten a neck into second on his seasonal return at Carlisle in November and first-time cheekpieces may help him to defy a 1lb rise here. Last month's Exeter winner Isaac Des Obeaux is an obvious threat to the selection, while the second from that contest Operation Manna is another with strong claims.

Off the lowest weight and having held his own in strong Class 2 handicaps the last twice, RIVERS CORNER (nap) looks sure to run well.

Point winner KILARO won in fine style on his debut under Rules and amateur Paddy Barlow clearly gets on well with him. It's often tough to shoulder a penalty in these types of event but the manner in which he won would suggest there is plenty more under the bonnet. There will be plenty of challengers, though, namely Diamond White, who made an encouraging start at Catterick last month. Lucinda Russell landed the corresponding event 12 months ago, so herself and Michael Scudamore's representative Valtteri Its James must be respected. Ronnie Russet and Caspada are others to consider.

The newcomer FINBARR hails from a family that has made a habit of kicking off careers with success in bumpers.

The Procrastinator made the perfect start to her racing career at Doncaster but this will be tougher under a penalty, and it is STARS ALIGN that gets the vote. Nicky Henderson boasts a 36 percent strike-rate in bumpers at this venue and the filly, his only runner on the card, could enhance that record. That said the market is likely to guide, as it is with the likes of Steal A Glance and L'amandine, and spare a thought for Graceful Glance, who would be deserving of a maiden triumph having finished second on both of her racecourse appearances.

Having cost 110,000 pounds as a store, BEAU SPEED makes plenty of appeal as a half-brother to the useful bumper performer Authorised Speed. Fine Tuning is closely related to the high-class Regent's Stroll and cost 86,000 euros. With that in mind, he merits a market inspection for a yard with a good record in bumpers. Others to note are Murphy's Mate, Shady Knight and Valiant Soldier.

A few of these appeal on paper so this could be a fair bumper. FINE TUNING is a half-brother to the very smart Regent's Stroll.

A half-brother to four winners, he could go one better with the step up to mile likely to draw improvement based on pedigree. The consistent Gennadius boasts an official rating of 70 and may figure prominently in this company. Hengist Pod is related to some useful performers and has to be of interest on racecourse debut.

A chance is taken on HENGIST POD on his debut. The selection has a nice pedigree and is preferred ahead of Variety Act.

Blue Eclipse is unexposed at the trip and having been well supported on his debut for the James Tate yard in a similar handicap at Wolverhampton last month, the son of Oasis Dream warrants close inspection in the betting. However, PITNEY is more proven over a mile and, from 14lb below his last winning mark, Michael Attwater's gelding looks well worth another chance here. Union Island and Lexington Jet, who tries first-time blinkers, complete the shortlist.

Pitney finished ahead of a couple of these at Lingfield last time but BLUE ECLIPSE is the selection after a solid run on yard debut.

However, as a previous C&D winner on a competitive mark, he cannot be ruled out on these terms. Even so, the vote goes to KESSAAR POWER, a three-time course winner who is versatile regarding distance that has won from much higher marks in the past. Tootsie and My Boy Harry are the pick of the rest.

My Boy Harry is interesting in a switch of headgear but TOOTSIE is preferred having ran well here last time despite a wide trip.
