(3) Lets Go To Vegas 15/2, Course winner who was let down by her jumping when third of 4 in handicap chase at Wincanton (20.2f, soft) 14 days ago. Not discounted now reverted to hurdles.

(4) Mary 22/1, Showed plenty of promise when placed in bumpers at Warwick and Cheltenham last spring and when third in 2 hurdles since. Beat only one on her handicap debut at Newbury (16.3f, soft) 10 days ago though so needs to bounce back.
Flopped at Newbury ten days ago but her previous run there brings her into it.
LTO Selection:

13:10 Market Rasen Handicap Hurdle (Class 4) 17f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

AUTUMN RETURN justified strong support in the betting when she won a similar race over the extended 2m4f circuit at Musselburgh last November and a 4lb higher mark might not be enough to prevent her staging a repeat success if she copes with the drop back down in trip. Similar comments apply to Lets Go To Vegas, who can make a fist of things if dropping back in distance doesn't inconvenience her. Holly knows how to win a race and is feared most from the remainder.

AUTUMN RETURN can boast a C&D win and Ruth Jefferson's likeable mare looks very much the way to go on the back of her recent Musselburgh victory. Lets Go To Vegas could emerge as the chief threat now she reverts to this sphere having been let down by her jumping over fences with Belles Benefit appealing as the pick of the rest for minor honours.

Most of these have questions to answer at the minute but not AUTUMN RETURN (nap) who is putting a progressive profile together.

LTO Selection:

13:40 Market Rasen Maiden Hurdle (Class 4) 21f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

A winner of point-to-point before making a successful debut under Rules in a bumper at Warwick last April, CHECK THE SCORE is an intriguing contender for Fergal O'Brien to go to war with this season. This looks a good starting point over hurdles for the son of Mahler, who heads the shortlist based on potential. Grand Albert has a similar background and is likely to be wiser after last month's introduction under Rules in a NH Flat race at Bangor, while Zain Nights warrants consideration having already hinted at ability in this discipline.

The market should reveal plenty but Fergal O'Brien's winning pointer/bumper scorer CHECK THE SCORE gets the vote now starting out in this sphere with this immediate step up in trip looking a plus for this son of Mahler. Grand Albert also merits plenty of respect on his hurdling debut with useful Flat stayer Zain Nights not discounted either along with Dan Skelton's new recruit G A Henty.

Point/bumper winner CHECK THE SCORE can score on his hurdles debut. Grand Albert and G A Henty are two others to consider.

Form somewhat patchy since but got right back on track on first start for current yard (had breathing op) when landing 9-runner handicap at Carlisle (26.2f) 23 days ago. Respected up 5 lb.

(5) Lagonda 10/3, Dual point winner who went close on chase debut at Exeter in February before finishing fifth of 15 in a mares' listed handicap hurdle at Newbury. Shade disappointing on second start in this sphere at Warwick but ran well when second at Chepstow (23.6f) since.

(3) Peejaybee 11/4, Successful 3 times at up to 2m4f over hurdles but failed to meet expectations in trio of starts over fences around last term. Probably needed the run returning in a first-time tongue strap after 10 months off when fourth here (21.4f) in November. Has since left Richard Spencer.
Bumper/hurdles winner; yet to win over fences; quite interesting up in trip on yard debut.

4/1(-33%)
(1) Moon Hunter 4/1, Winning pointer who landed his first 2 starts over hurdles. Looked rusty when fourth at Cheltenham on seasonal/chasing debut in October but produced a laboured effort when down the field at Exeter (24.2f) last time.
Winning pointer; has potential but best rules form is at shorter and soft going not ideal.
LTO Selection:

14:10 Market Rasen Handicap Chase (Class 3) 24f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

ANGLERS CRAG made a successful debut for the Brian Ellison yard when he landed a class 4 handicap chase at Carlisle last month and, while this is more demanding, he displayed a willingness to battle that day and could be difficult to overhaul with a similar display of determination here. Lagonda is feared most on the back of a solid effort at Chepstow last time, while Moon Hunter can also go well, despite the burden of carrying top-weight.

ANGLERS CRAG overcame mistakes to beat a couple of lightly-raced chasers on his first start for his new yard at Carlisle last month so a 5 lb rise could well prove manageable. Lagonda shouldn't be long in winning over fences judged on her latest effort at Chepstow, with First Lord de Cuet capable of making his presence felt if bouncing back from a poor run at Bangor.

Conditions should be ideal for LAGONDA, whose stable is in such good form and who was a good second at Chepstow last time.

(1) Grey Skies 10/3, Dual winner last spring and wasn't beaten far back from a break at Carlisle (21f, soft). Ultimately promised more than he delivered that day but this drop back in trip looks a potentially good move and he's on a workable mark.

LTO Selection:

14:40 Market Rasen Handicap Chase (Class 4) 19f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

SCENE ONE didn't appreciate testing conditions when pulled up on his latest start at Fakenham as he arrived in search of a hat-trick of victories. The eight-year-old is capable of bouncing back from that display, especially with first-time cheekpieces being applied, and he can land this if finding top gear again. William Cody has been the bridesmaid on all three starts this campaign and he is expected to play a similar role once again, while Grey Skies is respected off just 2lb above his last winning mark.

WILLIAM CODY is taken to deservedly get his head back in front having found just one too good on each of his 3 starts since returning to action in November. He perhaps found 21.2f on deep ground too much of a test at Fakenham last time and the drop back in trip/better ground here will be helpful. Similar remarks apply to Scene One, who was pulled up in the same Fakenham race but he remains of interest nonetheless. Maninsane is third choice ahead of Grey Skies.

A trappy race can go to GREY SKIES who ran a solid race after a break when fourth at Carlisle last time. William Cody is next best.

Ex-French; fair form over hurdles and fences; perhaps best watched on British/stable debut.
LTO Selection:

15:10 Market Rasen Handicap Hurdle (Class 4) 21f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

CHARLES ST improved for stepping up in distance when gaining a first success in this sphere over C&D in November and the five-year-old could prove tough to beat, despite a 5lb rise from the handicapper. Homme D'Un Soir shaped well on his first start for new connections when third over a trip shorter than ideal at Doncaster. He commands respect, while the consistent Our Bill's Aunt is expected to be in the mix.

HOMME D'UN SOIR put in a good shift back hurdling on debut for Billy Aprahamian at Doncaster and, down another 1 lb and back up in trip here, he could be the answer to this trappy-looking contest. It remains to be seen if Charles St will reproduce the form of his C&D success last time but he'll certainly be a threat if able to do so, while cases can also be made for Haafapiece and Our Bill's Aunt.

The choice is HOMME D'UN SOIR, who ran well after a spell hunter chasing and pointing when third over 2m at Doncaster last time.

LTO Selection:

15:45 Market Rasen Handicap Chase (Class 5) 17f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

YELLOW JACKET may have just needed his first run of the season when ultimately proving no match for an easy winner at Bangor last month. The seven-year-old remains open to improvement on just his fourth outing over the larger obstacles and this may prove to be the ideal opportunity to shed the maiden tag. Cokytho and Hokelami appeal most of the remainder.

YELLOW JACKET didn't have much chance with the winner at Bangor on return but his superiority over the others was greater than the margin implies so makes the most appeal up against some out of form rivals. Cokytho at least took a small step back in the right direction starting out for this yard here on return last month so is feared most.

Brian Hughes takes the mount aboard YELLOW JACKET for the first time and, in a weak contest, this lightly raced chaser should go close.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

EL HIBRI had a little in hand when winning over this course and distance on Saturday and appeals for a quick follow up under a 5lb penalty. Mumayaz has held his form well of late and is feared most with the drop back to this trip not expected to be an issue, while Mokaatil has gone well on synthetic surfaces elsewhere and is an interesting one to note in the betting on his debut run at this venue.

A few of these arrive with question marks against them so this looks a good opportunity for the in-form MUMAYAZ to gain a deserved success and end a lengthy losing run. Recent C&D winner El Hibri is feared most, although a solid case can also be made for Sparkle In His Eye and Captain Vallo.

El Hibri and Mumayaz should be thereabouts but MR SQUIRES receives the vote after shaping encouragingly last time.

LTO Selection:

17:30 Southwell Handicap (Class 5) 12f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

ASSAIL stepped up markedly from his debut to score with a little more in hand than the winning margin suggests when landing a maiden at Wolverhampton last November. An opening handicap mark of 75 is not insurmountable and another big run could be on the cards. Sagauteur got off the mark for his current yard with comfortable success at Newcastle last month and is feared most off just 4lb higher. Skye Breeze and Royal Dream are also considered.

SAGAUTEUR scored in ready fashion at Newcastle last month so can defy a 4 lb rise over a trip which he remains unexposed at. Royal Dream is worth another go at this distance given how he shaped at Kempton and is next best ahead of Skye Breeze, who should step up on his comeback returned to AW.

Royal Dream and PAGE THREE were set a lot to do before running on well in the same Kempton race last month. The latter gets the nod

LTO Selection:

18:00 Southwell Handicap (Class 5) 12f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

BRINGBACKMEMORIES took advantage of a drop in class when he won a seller at Hamilton on his penultimate start and, having also gone well when second back in this grade at Newcastle 12 days ago, there is a lot to like about his chance here. Morlaix hinted at a revival last time out and poses a big threat to the selection, while the relatively unexposed Luna Effect can also be fancied to be on the premises at the business end.

LUNA EFFECT took a step back in the right direction when third here last month, finishing well having been set plenty to do down in trip, so gets the vote off the same mark back up in distance. Bringbackmemories shaped well on his AW debut when second at Newcastle recently and rates a big threat, while Orange N Blue is the potential improver now switched to handicaps.

The choice is FOX FLAME who has won and been narrowly beaten in her two starts over C&D and is back off her last winning mark.

LTO Selection:

18:30 Southwell Stakes (Class 4) 11f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

JACQUES CARTIER showed ability on debut when he finished behind a couple of horses with stacks of potential in a novice at Wolverhampton last month. The son of Sea The Stars could be hard to beat with a step forward here. Turing's latest start at Kempton has a solid look which puts him in the picture, while Mach Ten was a couple of places behind the selection in that aforementioned race but could get closer with the step up in trip likely to suit.

JACQUES CARTIER produced a promising first effort amidst signs of inexperience when third in novice company at Wolverhampton 31 days ago and he's expected to build on that and come out on top upped in trip. Mach Ten and Turing can give him most to think about.

This can go to JACQUES CARTIER who finished a promising third on his Wolverhampton debut. The longer trip is likely to suit him.

GREATGADIAN benefited from a drop back in trip when runner-up at Newcastle on his most recent start and he makes plenty of appeal with his rider's 3lb claim enhancing his chances further. Excel Power went close to getting his head back in front at Chelmsford last month and warrants plenty of respect. Doctor Khan Junior seeks a hat-trick of victories and completes the shortlist, along with Intervention and Lord Of The Lodge.

DOCTOR KHAN JUNIOR made it four wins from his last six starts with a stylish success at Wolverhampton last month and, with further progress possible, he could take this step up in class and 9 lb higher mark in his stride. Greatgadian, like the selection, boasts a good strike rate on the all-weather and he is feared most on the back of a solid effort at Newcastle. Gulliver is lurking on a dangerous mark and is another to consider, along with the in-form Intervention and Misty Grey.

Four of these met at Wolverhampton on Boxing Day. The runner-up FOLLOW YOUR HEART can come out best this time from his favourable draw.

STORYMAKER hasn't looked back since getting off the mark at Wolverhampton last month, with subsequent victories at Lingfield a week later and at Southwell on Saturday. A 5lb penalty doesn't appear likely to stop George Boughey's filly in her current vein of form. Enola Grey arrives having scored on her last couple of starts at Newcastle and she is likely to enter calculations, while recent Lingfield scorer Maysan isn't one to discount lightly.

The hat-trick beckons for ENOLA GREY, who has hit the target in handicaps at Newcastle the last twice and has gone close on both previous visits to this course. Gemma Tutty's charge remains on a feasible mark and is taken to get the better of fellow recent winners Storymaker and Maysan.

The vote goes to ENOLA GREY (nap) who is taken to complete the hat-trick and make it 3-3 under Ethan Jones.

20:00 Southwell Stakes (Class 6) 8f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

GYPSY WHISPER has been knocking on the door recently, having finished less than a length behind the winner on four of his last five starts, and this appears to be a solid opportunity for the seven-year-old to gain a deserved victory. Big Narstie has plummeted down the handicap in recent months and the application of blinkers for the first time might spark a revival. Twistaline and Broughtons Flare are both capable of a decent showing.

A 3-time winner on all-weather this time last year, BROUGHTONS FLARE took a step back in the right direction when fourth at Wolverhampton recently and in a race lacking depth, he gets the vote to build on that here. Gypsy Whisper arrives in good nick and she's feared, ahead of Coconut Bay. The lightly-raced Button Bay is also worth monitoring in the market faced with her easiest assignment to date.

Mark Loughnane's BROUGHTONS FLARE scored three times in January last year and shaped well when fourth at Wolverhampton last week.

20:30 Southwell Handicap (Class 6) 5f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

BLAZING HOT went close on several occasions at the back end of last season, including when just denied on his penultimate start at Pontefract. He remains on the same mark as his latest effort, when finishing third at Newcastle, and gets the vote in what appears to be a winnable contest on paper. The application of cheekpieces might yield some improvement from Resilience, with Yaahobby and Coley's Koko others to note.

NOT TOO REAL BAD didn't enjoy the rub of the green when eighth at Newcastle last time and this fair ex-Irish scorer can resume winning ways for the excellent Mick Appleby team. Resilience arrives on a long losing run but is still feared most ahead of in-form Yaahobby and the returning Crocodile Power.

The selection is BLAZING HOT who is still 3lb lower than when gaining his latest success over C&D at the end of 2022.
