Could Be Trouble

15/2(-50%)
(1) Could Be Trouble 15/2, Hurdles/chase winner who was placed on first 3 starts of this season, including when second in a 7-runner 25.3f handicap hurdle here in November. Below par last time but can be excused that (race may have come too soon) and she's a live each-way candidate.
Not the force of old but was second off 3lb higher here in November; can't rule out.

Bridgetjoans

28/1(+44%)
(7) Bridgetjoans 28/1, Showed a bit in 3 qualifying runs before Christmas but she's hard to warm to based on her handicap debut display at Newcastle. Visor applied.
Soundly beaten (albeit on heavy ground) when 66-1 for handicap debut; visor now added.

3rd (3) Zwicky (6/1 -50%)
Zwicky

6/1(-50%)
(3) Zwicky 6/1, Perfect start to this season, bagging back-to-back handicaps at Sedgefield and Carlisle before finishing a solid third of 15 off this mark at Doncaster. Ran no sort of a race tried over 3m last time but likely to be in the thick of things if on-song back down in trip here.
Ran as though something was amiss last time but can resume earlier progress if all is well.

Misty Mani

14/1(-40%)
(10) Misty Mani 14/1, Won 3 on the bounce in 2022 and returned to form following a string of underwhelming efforts when going close at Market Rasen in September then finishing third over this C&D. Lesser effort last time, though, and should could do with the ground drying out.
Placed over C&D in December; a possible if the ground dries out.

Feach Amach

12/1(+14%)
(13) Feach Amach 12/1, Fair maiden on the Flat for Jim Bolger and improved plenty on opening hurdles exploits when landing a Sedgefield juvenile in November. Hasn't built on that in 2 subsequent starts, though, and others make more appeal.
Just a respectable third in Sedgefield handicap last month and effectively 1lb higher here.
6th
6th (8) Lifetime Legend (15/2 +25%)
Lifetime Legend

15/2(+25%)
(8) Lifetime Legend 15/2, Below par since winning this race 12 months ago but he's been given a real chance by the handicapper (11 lb lower in the weights this time round) and perhaps the return to this venue will do the trick. Needs considering.
Won this race off 1lb higher a year ago but not firing on all cylinders this season.
7th
7th (9) Belle Na Bann (15/2 -25%)
Belle Na Bann

15/2(-25%)
(9) Belle Na Bann 15/2, Dual winner for Neil Mulholland in summer 2022 and back on track for Micky Hammond when scoring at Newcastle in December and over 15.7f here on New Year's Day. Below par last time but she's on a similar mark to that off which she was runner-up in this race last year, so there's cause for optimism.
Dual winner this winter; not at best last time, though, and probably needs a career best.
8th
8th (5) Out Of Focus (2/1 +47%)
Out Of Focus

2/1(+47%)
(5) Out Of Focus 2/1, Bumper winner who has finished in the money on each of is 3 starts since switched to handicaps, most recently finishing third at Chepstow (19.4f, heavy) where he weakened in the closing stages after holding every chance 2 out. This sharper track may well aid his cause.
Made the frame in first three handicaps and is a likely contender again.
9th
9th (4) Gustoso (13/2 +59%)
Gustoso

13/2(+59%)
(4) Gustoso 13/2, Well beaten sole outing in bumpers but did offer promise on second of 3 starts in maiden/novice company when fourth at Wetherby in November. However, latest effort at Ludlow was uninspiring and sizeable step forward needed now pitched into a handicap.
Pulled up last time but his first two hurdle runs were encouraging; handicap debut today.

(6) The Vollan 22/1, Veteran who was safely held on his first run over hurdles for the best part of 2 years at Newcastle in January.

14:20 Catterick Handicap Hurdle (Class 5) 19f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Belle Na Bann and Zwicky are both on recovery missions after running below-par on their latest outings, but either would prove dangerous is bouncing back to form. Out Of Focus also enters calculations having posted several creditable efforts in defeat and the six-year-old should be in the mix once more. Nevertheless, Henry Daly has his string in fine fettle and there is a sneaking suspicion that handicap debutant GUSTOSO could be ahead of his mark.

It could be worth chancing LIFETIME LEGEND, who hasn't been firing on all cylinders of late but he's now 11 lb below the mark off which he beat Belle Na Bann in convincing fashion in this race last season. Zwicky needs to bounce back following a shocker at Southwell but he was in good order prior to that and is second choice ahead of Out of Focus and Misty Mani. If Molto Bene were to line up she would warrant serious consideration but she is due to run at Plumpton on Monday.

Another chance is given to ZWICKY, has now been a beaten favourite three consecutive times but may still resume his earlier progress.

14:35 Leicester Handicap Chase (Class 4) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

HATOS followed up his Ffos Las triumph with another cosy success at Wincanton 10 days ago and, despite a further 6lb hike in the ratings, Anthony Honeyball's charge looks well placed to complete the hat-trick. Wewillgowithplanb ought to give another good account of himself, while Nambiti hasn't been seen since being pulled up in a Pertemps Qualifier at Sandown in December 2022 but he is worth a market check on his return.

HATOS is going the right way over fences and can complete the hat-trick. Wewillgowithplanb looks the safest option for the forecast.

The proven ability of HATOS on heavy ground swings things in his favour but Wewillgowithplanb is unlikely to be a pushover.

(4) Carrigeen Castle 4/1, Maiden over hurdles but, having won an Irish point before joining Micky Hammond, showed much-improved form to land back-to-back handicap chase contests at around this trip in recent months. Hit with 10 lb rise for latest success but unlikely he's reached his limit just yet.
Hiked up in grade after two Class 5 wins but still respected in current mood.

14:50 Catterick Handicap Chase (Class 3) 19f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

Carrigeen Castle has really hit his stride since being campaigned over fences, as evidenced when completing a double at Wetherby earlier this month. However, a 10lb rise for that latest victory does demand more and it could be worth taking a punt on the downgraded PRAIRIE WOLF. Sue Smith's gelding was far from disgraced when fourth in class 2 company at Cheltenham and he has enjoyed success on the hurdles course at this venue. Blue Fin should appreciate this stiffer test and is also noted.

Having won impressively on his penultimate start at Doncaster, PRAIRIE WOLF acquitted himself with plenty of credit when fourth in the Timeform Novices' Handicap Chase at Cheltenham 31 days ago, tiring late on having pressed an upwardly-mobile sort from the off. He's well worth another chance given the strength of that race. Carrigeen Castle is progressing at a rate of knots himself and is feared in his hat-trick bid. Blue Fin completes the shortlist.

The pick is PRAIRIE WOLF, who followed his comfortable Doncaster win with a creditable fourth in a hot Cheltenham handicap last month.

15:05 Leicester Handicap Chase (Class 5) 23f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Although NATTY NIGHT struggled at Hereford last time, he was comfortably clear of Martalmix'jac (second) when the pair met over 2m4f here last month, and a 3lb swing might not be enough to see the latter reverse that form. Jack Doyen is now 9lb lower than when winning at Warwick in March last year and he should not be underestimated.

FLEMEN'S TIPPLE (declared 15.55 Plumpton Monday) made a positive start over hurdles when fourth at Market Rasen and shades the vote over Natty Night, who didn't have things go right for him from an early stage at Hereford 2 weeks ago. Martalmix'jac was a good second to Natty Night over C&D 5 weeks ago and is another to consider.

Little between NATTY NIGHT and Martalmix'jac on their 2m4f form here in January but the former was the one who found the most.

15:20 Catterick Handicap Chase (Class 5) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

TREATY BOY proved a different proposition when scoring with ease on his chase bow over C&D earlier this month. The seven-year-old is now under the tutelage of Stuart Coltherd and a 7lb rise in the ratings may not be enough to prevent him from following up. A subsequent wind operation following Chase A Fortune's third over hurdles here in January makes him of some interest on his first foray over fences. The Cannock Chase gelding is feared most ahead of Upagainstit.

TREATY BOY proved a different model fitted with a tongue strap and sent chasing on handicap debut when value double the winning margin over C&D last month and can defy a 7 lb rise starting out for a new yard. Chase A Fortune took a step back in the right direction over hurdles here last time and has the size to make a chaser, so is next best ahead of the returning Getaway Jewel.

The most obvious answer is lightly raced 7yo TREATY BOY, who won in pretty good style over C&D on his recent chase/handicap debut.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

While a few of these arrive with something to prove, it is hard to oppose LINCOLN LYN. A 5lb rise for her recent Wetherby triumph looks more than fair and she is taken to repeat the dose. Point winner Bobbi's Beauty hit the woodwork over hurdles last time and she must be of interest now sent chasing, while Penny Mallow heads the remainder.

Having finished runner-up to a subsequent winner on her penultimate start, LINCOLN LYN ran out an authoritative winner at Wetherby 33 days ago and a 5 lb higher mark shouldn't prevent another bold showing. Chase-debutantes Desert Fortune and Bobbi's Beauty may emerge as the chief threats.

Lincoln Lyn is in good heart but winning Irish pointer DESERT FORTUNE goes chasing at a modest level for her new yard.

15:50 Catterick Maiden Hurdle (Class 4) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

STAY IF U WANT TO displayed a tough attitude when taking a Market Rasen bumper in November on his third career start. The experience gained from his first couple of outings likely aided his cause and he could take advantage of what appears to be a winnable opportunity on his hurdling debut. Wolfburg is entitled to step forward from his Kelso fourth in December, while Isholo Du Vivien appeals most of the remainder.

STAY IF YOU WANT TO showed fairly useful form when making it third time lucky in bumpers at Market Rasen in November and, it's fair to assume, he'll prove hard to beat if running to a similar level on this switch to hurdling. Wolfburg and Isholo du Vivien are feared most in that order.

Jonjo O'Neill's STAY IF YOU WANT TO won a modest bumper at Market Rasen but he showed plenty of spirit to prevail.

16:05 Leicester Handicap Chase (Class 4) 23f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

A step up in trip over fences brought out a much-improved performance from Uttoxeter scorer HERE COMES MCCOY last month. An 8lb rise appears to be workable for the nine-year-old and he looks to have been found a suitable opportunity to follow up. Hauraki Gulf could only muster a third-placed finish at Exeter on his latest outing, but a return to this level should see him prove more competitive, with last-time-out winner No Tackle completing the shortlist.

HERE COMES MCCOY was a most decisive winner on his second start over fences at Uttoxeter last month so is taken to defy an 8 lb rise. Hauraki Gulf rates the biggest threat back down in class ahead of No Tackle, who scored over C&D 5 weeks ago.

No Tackle is a promising chaser but he may have to give best to HERE COMES McCOY (nap) who won in good style at Uttoxeter.

16:20 Catterick Handicap Chase (Class 4) 25f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

TWOSHOTSOFTEQUILA was fancied to give a decent account in the Great Yorkshire at Doncaster but never landed a blow on that occasion when finishing down the field. The seven-year-old had been running well in defeat prior to that effort and the drop in class gives him solid claims. Dr Kananga took a step back in the right direction when runner-up at Fontwell and a change of headgear to blinkers may yield some improvement. Others to consider are East Street and Mister Bells.

DR KANANGA took a big step back in the right direction from a tumbling mark when second in first-time headgear at Fontwell 2 weeks ago and shades the vote over Mister Bells, who was value for double the winning margin in a veterans event over C&D 5 weeks ago. Everyday Champagne is another to consider back down in class.

Despite his big weight TWOSHOTSOFTEQUILA (nap) has leading claims. His penultimate piece of form was franked at the weekend.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

DAVID'S DIVA rounded off her hat-trick with a narrow Wolverhampton success 10 days ago. Rod Millman's filly is just 2lb higher and, with a return to further likely to suit, she can continue the winning trend. Plumette has dropped to an appealing mark and she might offer some value to those looking to take on the selection, while Intoxicata, who hit the frame at Lingfield four days ago, is respected too.

DAVID'S DIVA did well to overcome the widest stall at Wolverhampton 10 days ago and, on that evidence, a 2 lb rise doesn't look enough to prevent the 4-timer. Plumette is interesting from her current mark and has been shaping up well of late, with Aim For The Moon another not to take lightly.

Back up to 1m DAVID'S DIVA could well continue her progress and complete a four-timer. Aim For The Moon is second choice.

16:35 Leicester Hunter Chase (Class 3) 23f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

Although CAT TIGER comes with risks attached having ran out at the eighth fence at Hereford last month, the veteran has some smart form in the book. The Diamond Boy gelding will prove tough to beat if running to his best and he edges the verdict over Percussion. Representing the Laura Morgan yard, the nine-year-old posted a respectable fifth in the Classic Chase at Warwick in January. Espoir De Teillee makes most appeal of the remainder.

PERCUSSION is of strong interest on his first start in a hunter and he is marginally preferred to last year's winner of this race, Espoir de Teillee, who should be spot-on for a repeat bid on the back of his success between the flags. Bennys King should also have a part to play, but while Cat Tiger would be a big threat if at his best, he arrives here with a bit to prove.

Percussion looks sure to go well but the 2021 winner CAT TIGER is preferred, despite having ducked out at Hereford recently.

SHANTOU MOON was just denied when attempting for back-to-back C&D victories at the start of the month having potentially hit the front sooner than ideal. If able to be produced later, a 4lb rise for that neck defeat is unlikely to make too much of a difference. Burrows Hall brings a consistent level of form to the table and may benefit from stepping up in trip, while Lincoln Burrows and Accidental Legend can fight it out for the minor honours.

SHANTOU MOON has upped his game here in recent starts and gets the nod in a tricky-looking handicap. Lincoln Burrows and Burrows Hall rate the principal dangers.

A few with chances. ACCIDENTAL LEGEND is Fergal O'Brien's only runner on the card and looks ready for today's stiffer test of stamina.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

This looks to be a golden opportunity for INGLEBY ARCHIE, who produced a consistent level of form on the turf last year. He has a 148-day absence to overcome but, with the opposition requiring improvement, that is unlikely to stop the son of James Garfield. Bingley Crocker, who drops in class, is the main danger, for all that he must concede weight all round. Big Blue Boy appeals most of the remainder.

It's pretty much impossible to oppose INGLEBY ARCHIE on these terms. He made the frame all five starts in maiden/novice company as a juvenile and while he is unproven on the all-weather, the fact that his dam was successful on synthetics augurs well. Bingley Crocker gets the nod ahead of Please Please Me for forecast purposes.

This looks a good opportunity for the consistent INGLEBY ARCHIE to get off the mark. Big Blue Boy is second choice.

17:30 Southwell Stakes (Class 6) 5f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

A chance can be taken on MUTABAAHY, who hit the woodwork in a similar contest at Newcastle a week ago. He would not need to find much more to go one better, though stablemate Another Angel, who also occupied the runner-up spot at Gosforth Park last Tuesday, should throw down a stern challenge. Street Life defeated the aforementioned pair under Jack Enright earlier this month and must be taken seriously too.

SIR BENEDICT is in better heart than his recent form figures suggest and could be worth chancing to end his losing run. Veteran stablemates Mutabaahy and Another Angel head the dangers.

The percentage call goes to STREET LIFE, who has a good strike-rate at Southwell. Trulie Good is second choice.

18:00 Southwell Handicap (Class 4) 11f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

MAJED benefited from first-time cheekpieces when getting off the mark at Wolverhampton in November and the step up in trip on handicap debut promises to unlock further improvement, especially based on the dam's side of his pedigree. Dunstan (first) got the better of Bradman (second) at Wolverhampton earlier in the month and they are expected to be in the mix once again.

The one with the most striking potential is MAJED, who beat next-time-out winner Bold Style in decisive fashion at Wolverhampton when last seen in November and he should have plenty more to offer now faced with a stiffer test on this handicap debut. Hat-trick seeker Dunstan got the better of Bradman in a three-runner affair recently and is taken to master that rival once again, and emerge as the main danger to Majed.

This race comprises three interesting handicap debutants and two solid performers. First choice is MAJED, ahead of Torrent.

18:30 Southwell Handicap (Class 6) 7f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

TEES GEORGE may have just needed his return from a break when fourth at Newcastle earlier this month and the four-year-old, who had scored at the same venue the time before, could have more to offer. Captain Cooper has to be respected dropping back a furlong after being well supported when fourth on his first start for new connections recently. Others for the shortlist include My Boy Jack and Midnightattheoasis.

TEES GEORGE is still relatively low mileage and made a pleasing return from a break at Newcastle earlier this month. He is taken to score. Captain Cooper and Midnightattheoasis should also go well.

Kept to 7f TEES GEORGE has particularly solid claims and he remains unexposed at this distance. Captain Cooper is second choice.

19:00 Southwell Handicap (Class 6) 7f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

DAAFY has returned to form at this track recently as a win here in January was followed by a runner-up effort last time. With most of his rivals seemingly out of sorts at present, this appears to be a good opportunity for the seven-year-old to continue in a rich vein of form. Fortuitous Star ran well fresh last year and is capable of a decent showing, while Connected is likely to bounce back from his latest run when a beaten favourite at Lingfield.

BROTHER DAVE posted his best effort yet when putting in good late work to finish second at Newcastle last week and he is taken to get the job done this time. Daafy goes well here and looks set for another prominent role, while Kodebreaker has edged down to a workable mark and is third choice ahead of Spartan Fighter.

Being a course specialist whose 2024 form has substance, DAAFY (nap) holds very strong claims. Kodebreaker is second choice.

19:30 Southwell Handicap (Class 6) 11f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

A breakthrough victory in a classified stakes event should have done VELVET VULCAN's confidence the world of good. A 5lb penalty on this switch to handicap company appears workable given the manner of that triumph and a quick-fire double could be on the cards. Trusty Scout has posted several creditable efforts in defeat at this level of late and Derek Shaw's gelding is feared most, although an improved effort from the distance-dropping Destinado wouldn't be a surprise either.

Preference is for VELVET VULCAN, who won in decisive fashion at Lingfield last week and still looks feasibly treated, despite a 5 lb penalty. Trusty Scout and Destinado head the list of dangers.

In-form VELVET VULCAN is taken to build on his Lingfield success and defy a 5lb penalty. Defence Treaty is second choice.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

Although stable debutant Mintnthat warrants respect in his hat-trick bid, the five-year-old must prove his stamina now upped in distance. With that in mind, it may pay to take chance on BRISTOL HILL. The six-year-old returned to form with a solid third at Newcastle recently and he is sure to be doing his best work at the finish over this shorter trip. The reappearing Tigerten and Prince Hector also warrant a second look.

BRISTOL HILL isn't the easiest of conveyances, but he comes here lurking on a handy mark and with Oisin Murphy an eye-catching booking, he could be ready to strike. Sky Dancer is less exposed than most and rates a threat along with the hat-trick seeking Mintnthat. Bond Spirit is another not out of things.

Bond Spirit has another good run in him on this track but BRISTOL HILL gets the vote with Oisin Murphy up for the first time.

20:30 Southwell Handicap (Class 6) 6f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

Jumira Bridge justified strong support in the market when landing an 11th career victory at Wolverhampton earlier this month. However, a 5lb rise in the handicap may leave the veteran vulnerable and recent C&D scorer MAY REMAIN makes more appeal. The gelded son of Mayson is only 3lb higher than for that victory 12 days ago, which might not be enough to prevent him from following up. Sassy Redhead was behind the selection in second that day and she's likely to be in the mix as well.

IGNAC LAMAR hasn't been the most consistent in recent months but he lines up here having ran well when third from a tumbling mark at Wolverhampton 32 days ago and he could be worth chancing back at the scene of his last success. Toptime, who ran out a good winner over 5f here last time is feared, with Sassy Redhead and May Remain others to consider in what rates a competitive affair.

Ignac Lamar is respected but SPRING ROMANCE retains ability since his absence and the likely strong pace will suit now back at 6f.
