Cephalus

5/2(+9%)
(1) Cephalus 5/2, Landed a gamble over C&D in December and has remained in good form since, going in again at Kempton (beat Taravara) and Southwell (both 1m) in recent weeks. A 5 lb penalty is unlikely to prevent him making a bold bid for the hat-trick.
Back in the groove this winter; penalty for latest win shouldn't prevent another big run.

13:12 Lingfield Handicap (Class 5) 8f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Having won three of his last five starts, CEPHALUS heads the shortlist despite picking up a 5lb penalty for his most recent success. The Gary Moore-trained gelding was treated for stomach ulcers before his upturn in form began over this course and distance in December, and he hasn't looked back. Taravara (second) was just a head behind the selection at Kempton last month and rates the chief danger with a 6lb pull at the weights. Eddie Temple is the pick of the rest.

TARAVARA is 6 lb better off with Cephalus for a narrow defeat at Kempton last month so might be able to turn the tables on Gary Moore's thriving 5-y-o. Eddie Temple shaped quite well when third on his recent Chelmsford return and also makes the shortlist.

Taravara and Cephalus are high on the list but there was sufficient promise in EDDIE TEMPLE's latest run to earn him the vote.

13:42 Lingfield Handicap (Class 6) 6f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

SUNBLOCK has been a well-backed favourite in each of her last two starts and, following a winning start for the George Boughey yard at Wolverhampton, she was unlucky in running when attempting to follow up at Newcastle 15 days ago. Off the same mark, the lightly-raced daughter of Too Darn Hot is worth another chance. Gogo Yubari (winner) and Unavailable (second) are closely matched based on their encounter over 5f here in January and are suggested as the pick of the remainder.

There was a possible excuse for SUNBLOCK last time and she's well worth another chance to show she's still on a good mark. The consistent Unavailable and the unexposed Southbank head the dangers.

Sunblock and Southbank are better than they showed last time but this could be the day for FALMOUTH BOY to break his duck.

14:00 Newbury Hunter Chase (Class 5) 23f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

TIGERBYTHETAIL unshipped Gina Andrews at the last with the race at his mercy at Fakenham, with Secret Investor picking up the pieces, but if the lightly-raced eight-year-old can produce a clean round of jumping, he can make amends. Secret Investor has five wins from six starts in this sphere, with his only mishap coming when he fell at the Cheltenham Festival last year, and he rates the main threat. Regatta De Blanc is far from out of it either.

REGATTA DE BLANC enhanced his excellent strike rate (from points) when making a winning start in hunters at Taunton 74 days ago and, having dead-heated between the flags since, she's fancied to get the better of Secret Investor and Tigerbythetail who have admittedly achieved a bit more to this point under Rules.

Regatta De Blanc is the dark one but TIGERBYTHETAIL would have won comfortably at Fakenham but for his late departure.

14:12 Lingfield Maiden (Class 4) 6f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

DUBAI HILLS holds an edge over most of these in terms of both experience and match-fitness. A respectable third in handicap at Newcastle earlier in the month, which was his first race since being gelded, this son of Adaay has to be of interest back in a maiden and, with that run under his belt, this could be the time to catch Amy Murphy's charge. Ethandun sets the standard based on last year's turf form, while the unexposed No Half Measures is also respected.

NO HALF MEASURES ran to a fair level first time up when second at Wolverhampton 20 days ago and, with improvement on the cards, is fancied to get the better of the more exposed Dubai Hills and Enthandun.

No Half Measures ran well on debut and should be involved but BONAVENTURE is given another chance to confirm his debut promise.

14:20 Hexham Maiden Hurdle (Class 4) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Runner-up to a subsequent hurdles winner in a bumper here a year ago, FOX'S FANCY appears to have been handed a golden opportunity. Lucinda Russell's mare, who is closely related to three winners, most notably Grand National hero One For Arthur, ought to relish the switch to timber and she gets the vote. Point-to-point winner Galunggung hasn't been seen since finishing second at Kelso in January 2023, but he is the main danger. That One needs to improve, but previous hurdling experience will stand him in good stead.

Assuming GALUNGGUNG is raring to go following a 14-month absence, he will take plenty of stopping. The horse he chased home on his Rules debut at Kelso is a pretty useful type and it's unlikely that there's anything of a similar calibre lurking amongst his five rivals in this contest. Fox's Fancy is the clear pick for forecast purposes given what she showed in bumpers last season, while That One may well pick up minor place money before presumably making the switch to handicaps.

Lightly raced 8yo GALUNGGUNG has been off since his promising second at Ayr in January 2023 but that form sets a clear standard here.

14:30 Newbury Handicap Chase (Class 3) 23f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

Neon Moon has failed to show a great deal on each of his last four starts, but he continues to drop in the weights and could get a lot closer now that he competes off his last winning mark. ARE U WISE TO THAT still looks the way to go, though, after scoring off a 5lb lower rating at Cheltenham in December. Jonjo O'Neill's seven-year-old has only had the three starts over fences so should have plenty of improvement in him. Atlanta Brave has occupied the runner-up berth the last twice and is another to note.

Cases can be made for the majority of the seven due to go to post, with ATLANTA BRAVE shading preference on the back of a fine effort in defeat here at the end of December. The 6-y-o probably has more to offer in this sphere, a remark which also applies Abuffalosoldier, who delivered a good round of jumping when scoring by a wide margin here last time and is feared most ahead of Deeper Blue.

One of two to dart clear of the others when second here in December, ATLANTA BRAVE can overcome a subsequent 6lb rise.

14:42 Lingfield Handicap (Class 6) 10f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

The class-dropping BRADMAN went close to making all over 1m4f at Newcastle last week and, off an unchanged mark easing in trip, he holds standout claims to make every yard a winning one from a handy draw. Jailbird shaped with some promise on her handicap debut over an extended 1m1f at Wolverhampton last month, running on into fourth place late on, and, upped in distance, she can give the selection most to think about. Night Safari can also get involved.

Richard Hughes has his team in good nick and CRACKER STAR appeals as one who could take a step forward now handicapping. Bradman has been consistent in similar races this year and is second choice, ahead of Jailbird, who didn't have things go ideally on her recent handicap debut.

Preference is for JAILBIRD, ahead of Bradman. The three handicap newcomers are open to improvement.

14:50 Hexham Handicap Hurdle (Class 5) 20f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Not the strongest of contests, in which a chance can be taken on BOWLER JACK. The six-year-old hasn't shown much so far but, with cheekpieces applied for the first time ahead of his handicap debut, it would come as no surprise were he to step forward. Huit Reflets posted a couple of promising efforts when trained in Ireland and the market can guide as he debuts for a new yard, while Brian's Jet might prove to be best of the remainder.

WALK MY WAY took a small step forward while leaving the impression there's more to come when a staying-on sixth at Wetherby last time, so he could be the answer to a tricky low-grade event. Brian's Jet has been given a chance by the handicapper, so he's of interest after a break, and Huit Reflets is worth close monitoring in the market on debut for a new yard.

The suggestion is KINGSTON ROCK, who has performed fairly well in his first three handicaps and ought to cope with today's ground.

15:00 Newbury Novices Hurdle (Class 3) 20f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

THE NEWEST ONE very much sets the standard after reaching the frame in the River Don at Doncaster, and he is rated 6lb superior to his nearest rival in this contest. The nine-year-old has Sam Twiston-Davies back on board and he should have no issues with the drop in distance. Ballybentragh finished miles clear of the third when beaten by a potentially nice type over C&D earlier in the month. He looks the main danger, with Classic King next best after his half-length second at Taunton.

THE NEWEST ONE holds a clear edge on form and with his sights lowered after a very good third in Doncaster's River Don Hurdle he is fancied to resume winning ways. Classic King should ensure Nigel Twiston-Davies' fairly useful sort doesn't have things all his own way though, with in-form pair Ballybentragh and Risk de Pluie both also worthy of consideration.

A compeitive race in which BALLYBENTRAGH gets the vote ahead of The Newest One and Classic King.

15:12 Lingfield Handicap (Class 5) 10f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

MARION'S BOY scored a shade cosily over 1m2f at Chelmsford last month under this rider, and the suspicion is that a 3lb rise may not be enough to stop him following up in what looks a winnable contest on paper. Tribal Wisdom has run solid races in defeat on his last two outings, both over C&D, but he is a habitual keen-racer and comes with risks attached. Semser is capable and, 1lb below his last winning mark, he looks weighted to strike if on a going day.

MARION'S BOY was value for extra in coming from the rear in a steadily-run race at Chelmsford last time and a 3 lb rise may not be enough to prevent the follow up on that evidence. Tribal Wisdom wasn't seen to best effect on his most recent outing and remains of interest, while Royal Dream appeals as the type to bounce back quickly from a rare poor effort at Southwell.

Marion's Boy still has some handicapping scope but the class-dropping TRIBAL WISDOM (nap) is selected to take another step forward.

15:20 Hexham Handicap Chase (Class 4) 24f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

A quick turnaround proved to be no problem for Heritier De Sivola, who was on target at Newcastle last weekend, having cruised to victory over C&D just two days earlier. The seven-year-old might find things tougher under a double penalty, though, and CAMP BELAN is preferred. He defeated Heritier De Sivola when making most from 5lb lower at Ayr last month and he can repeat the dose under similar tactics. Keep Wondering can chase the pair home.

HERITIER DE SIVOLA has thrived since the cheekpieces were reached for, supplementing his facile C&D success in good style at Newcastle 6 days ago and he could just be up to defying a double penalty. Camp Belan, who beat the selection at Ayr when last seen 38 days ago, is also expected to play a lead role. Don Brocco rates best of the other quartet.

Thriving 7yo HERITIER DE SIVOLA has a big penalty but is still ahead of the handicapper and can complete a quickfire hat-trick.

Dan Skelton had an excellent Cheltenham Festival and his Doyen Quest, who struck the woodwork on his handicap bow at Taunton, must be respected because his 6lb hike doesn't come into effect yet. Others to note include Imperial Saint, Steel Ally and David's Well.

DOYEN QUEST is turned out a day before his 6 lb rise for last week's Taunton handicap debut second kicks in and can provide in-form Dan Skelton with another winner. Unexposed handicap newcomers David's Well and Imperial Saint head the dangers, while Takeit Easy was third in the very competitive Swinton at Haydock off an identical mark when last seen in May so could also have a say if primed for his return to action.

An interesting race in which the vote goes to DOYEN QUEST, who is well treated off the same mark as for his clear second at Taunton.

15:45 Lingfield Handicap (Class 5) 6f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Northcliff has to be of interest having finally got off the mark at Wolverhampton last month, but a 5lb rise will make life tougher for him here. With that in mind, preference is for DARLO PRIDE, who has made the frame in both starts since winning over 5f also at Wolverhampton in February. Others to note are Alafdhal, Come On Girl and Harb.

DARLO PRIDE arrives in top form and was unlucky not to finish closer at Southwell last time, so he's worth a chance to get back to winning ways in what looks quite a thin race on paper. Northcliff is respected on the back of success at Wolverhampton and Harb could feature if he gets a reasonable position from stall 11.

Darlo Pride is greatly respected but MARTINI NIGHTS might be worth chancing on her stable debut.

15:55 Hexham Handicap Hurdle (Class 5) 23f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Rumble B struck in good fashion over 3m3f at Sedgefield last month and it would be no surprise to see him go very close again off only a 4lb higher rating. However, a chance can be taken on WAL BUCK'S, who had to settle for a well-beaten fourth on his handicap bow at Sandown, but it's way too soon to give up on him. Lucinda Russell's five-year-old takes a step up in distance and could prove a different proposition off a 2lb lower mark. Lucky So And So could also have a say after his second at Lingfield.

RUMBLE B made it twenty-seventh time lucky over hurdles when scoring at Sedgefield 4 weeks ago and while a horse with his profile would usually be one to take on next time, Justin Landy has seemingly found an equally weak contest for his 10-y-o to follow up in. This extra distance should suit Wal Buck's, so he can provide most resistance to the selection, with Lucky So And So rounding off the shortlist.

There is more to come from unexposed 5yo WAL BUCK'S, who moves up in trip and down in grade after a very respectable handicap debut.

16:08 Newbury Handicap Hurdle (Class 3) 24f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

The vote goes to COQUELICOT, who was no match for an impressive winner in a Listed contest at Haydock last month. Back in a handicap and upped in trip, conditions will be optimal and she looks to hold solid claims. Madaket has been raised 12lb after cruising to victory at Wincanton 15 days ago. He's open to further improvement, though, so that increase does not look insurmountable. Gyenyame is another to consider.

MADAKET won an uncompetitive handicap in good style at Wincanton 15 days ago and undoubtedly has much more on his plate from a 12 lb higher mark, but he remains unexposed at staying trips and could prove up to the task. Take No Chances shaped much better than being pulled up suggests in a C&D handicap last month and must enter calculations for a yard going great guns at present, with likeable veteran Jatiluwih completing the shortlist.

Plenty with chances in an open handicap. ZAIN NIGHTS (nap) has the potential to raise his game several notches now he steps up to 3m.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

REVOLUCION hit the crossbar on his most recent outing and he could prove tough to beat with a repeat performance. His supporters will be pleased to see that Rossa Ryan keeps the ride and perhaps there is a bit more to come in these refitted cheekpieces. Intoxicata and Twilight Dancer are the dangers, with the former feared most given she's 2-3 over C&D.

REVOLUCION is on a fair mark and worth taking a chance on to gain a second career success on the back of a good second over C&D. Intoxicata also arrives in form and merits respect despite a wide draw.

Easily the most appealing contenders based on last-time-out form and other factors are REVOLUCION and Intoxicata.

16:30 Hexham Handicap Chase (Class 5) 20f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Nights In Venice got his head in front at the 16th attempt when scoring by just under a length in a class 4 event at Ayr, and he would be foolish to dismiss off a 3lb higher mark. However, the vote goes to CUDGEL, who has found only one too strong on each of his last two appearances, and he could be the one to beat off an unchanged rating. Return Fire is 1lb lower than for his well-beaten fourth at Musselburgh and completes the shortlist.

NIGHTS IN VENICE proved better than ever to shed his maiden tag at Ayr last month and, given his lack of miles on the clock as a chaser, is fancied to follow up. Cudgel has a fine course record and arrives in good nick, so clearly rates as the biggest threat, with Return Fire making most appeal of the remaining trio.

Lucinda Russell's RETURN FIRE ought to find this easier than his latest assignment and is taken to collect his second C&D win.

16:43 Newbury Handicap Chase (Class 4) 22f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Captain Quint appeared to benefit from the application of cheekpieces (worn again today) when scoring at Musselburgh and he should remain competitive off a 5lb higher mark, but preference is for fellow last-start winner PEEJAYBEE. The form of his Doncaster success looks stronger and a 2lb rise is kind. Add to that, title-chasing jockey Sean Bowen takes over the reins so another bold bid looks assured. Maclaine had excuses for his latest display (reportedly bled) and could be dangerous to dismiss, especially as he posted a solid placed effort on his penultimate outing.

PEEJAYBEE was quick to make his mark over fences for his new yard and can defy a 2 lb rise in the weights at the chief expense of Musselburgh-scorer Captain Quint. Both Maclaine and Kepagge figure on handy marks and must enter calculations too in this open handicap.

Several have possibilities but it might be worth siding with SCENE ONE, who is is 2-4 over fences and had an excuse at 3m last time.

16:55 Lingfield Handicap (Class 6) 7f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

NO TURNING BACK made an encouraging return from a 131-day break when third over 7f at Kempton recently and she could be hard to stop with the benefit of that outing. Kitaab failed to fire last time but can be given another chance based on his two previous performances, while Bell Shot edges out So Chic to be best of the rest.

SO CHIC has been shaping up well and, if she gets the strong pace that suits, she could get the better of Bell Shot, who looks an interesting newcomer for an in-form yard. Seattle Time is also likely to be on the premises.

This looks more open than the first division. The suggestion is BELL SHOT, with So Chic second choice.

17:00 Dundalk Handicap 5f Race Speed Rating Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.

PHIL'S DREAM won over C&D in January and has been placed twice since over an extra furlong. The selection finished a half-length behind Hezahunk when the pair filled the placings behind Jazzy Dancer here last Friday, but the minimum trip tips the balance in favour of the John McConnell-trained gelding. Havana Notion dropped away in the final furlong in that race last Friday but has won over five furlongs and was also successful here earlier this year. My Girl Sioux is still a maiden after 22 starts but has filled the runner-up spot here on her two most recent starts, including when just denied by Winemaker over C&D a fortnight ago.

MY GIRL SIOUX has been knocking on the door here lately and might be up to landing a first success. Hezahunk is another who arrives on the back of a couple of near misses here and is respected for Ado McGuinness. January's course scorer Phil's Dream completes the shortlist.

A chance is taken that SAM'S XPRESS could score back down to a winnable mark after an okay run over 6f here last time

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

TWO AULD PALS has produced three solid efforts in novice hurdles, including when finishing third at Ayr last time, and the second that day has won subsequently. The Lucinda Russell-trained six-year-old makes his handicap debut off a mark of 106, which looks workable. Paddy The Horse, who hit the frame in this grade at Newcastle last month, also has to be considered off a 1lb lower rating. Wotyoudunnow Buddy is another to note in first-time cheekpieces.

PADDY THE HORSE is a dual course winner who took a big step back in the right direction when third at Newcastle last month and is well enough handicapped to strike if building on that effort. Pavlik seems to be working his way back to full fitness and is feared most ahead of Two Auld Pals.

Well-handicapped 9yo PADDY THE HORSE (nap) signalled a return to form when placed last month, and is very well suited by this track.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

EVA ROSIE arrives here on the back of two seconds over a mile at this venue in recent weeks and the step up in trip could help the four-year-old to go one better. Wheres The Crumpet filled the runner-up spot when last seen over this C&D two starts ago and she has to be of interest, while Mr Coco Bean completes the shortlist.

A deserved first taste of success beckons for EVA ROSIE, who has put in good shifts on each of her three starts since returning from a break in January and she is worth another chance at this trip judged on her recent near miss over a mile here. Tiberio Force ran poorly at Wolverhampton when last seen in November but he was knocking on the door prior to that and should be in the mix if fully tuned-up for this, while Wheres The Crumpet also enters calculations.

Although back in trip following a layoff, this can go to RED BIRD, who makes her yard debut and is bred to be better than this grade

17:20 Newbury Handicap Hurdle (Class 4) 24f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

REPUBLICAN justified strong market support on his stable debut for Harry Derham at Musselburgh on New Year's Day and, given plenty of time to recover from that first outing since April last year, he could be worth chancing off a 5lb higher mark. Haas Boy arrives on the back of a couple of solid placed efforts and although continuing to creep up the ratings, he is likely to be in the shake-up again. Sporting Mike has fallen to a workable mark and will appreciate dropping in class, while Mahler Moon also has a squeak representing the red-hot Skelton team.

REPUBLICAN was rated in the mid-120s earlier in his career so retains plenty of handicapping scope up 5 lb for Musselburgh and can make it 2-2 for Harry Derham. Annie Magic is dangerously well handicapped back hurdling and is second choice ahead of Sporting Mike and Mahler Man.

This is open. HAAS BOY was a clear second at Wincanton and may be about to snap a two-year losing run. Sporting Mike is next best.

17:30 Dundalk Handicap 6f Race Speed Rating Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.

This looks a highly competitive handicap and it's difficult to put a line through many of the 12 runners. PRISONER'S DILEMMA gained the latest of his seven career wins off a mark of 103 over 18 months ago but has shown promise on a number of occasions this year, notably dividing Inishmot Prince and Musical Tribute when third to Dream Today over C&D. Inishmot Prince is now a nine-time winner at this venue following a further four successes this winter, while Apache Outlaw and Collective Power are others for the shortlist after winning here last time. The latter didn't enjoy the clearest of passages when beating Musical Tribute by a neck last month.

A fiendishly competitive sprint with a host of recent winners on show including MOUNT RUAPEHU, who scored on all-weather/yard debut over C&D just over 7 weeks ago and looks capable of defying a 6 lb rise in the weights. Second choice is Prisoner's Dilemma, who was caught a touch further back than ideal over 7f here 3 weeks ago, with Apache Outlaw and Secret Magician another couple worth considering.

Mount Ruapehu is feared but a wide draw could mitigate against him so a chance is taken on the reappearing SECRET MAGICIAN

17:45 Newcastle Maiden (Class 4) 6f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

RUN BOY RUN filled second place in three of his four starts as a juvenile and this appears to be an ideal opportunity for Richard Spencer's gelding to get off the mark. Restless Prince represents a yard that can get one ready first time out and any market support for him would have to be noted. Others to consider are Grandlad and Born To Charm.

RUN BOY RUN holds the clear edge on form and should prove suited by dropping in trip so looks the way to go unless one of the trio of newcomers proves above-average, with Karl Burke's Restless Prince potentially the chief threat.

An uncompetitive maiden could go to RUN BOY RUN, who sets a fair standard and shouldn't be troubled by the drop to 6f

18:00 Dundalk Handicap 7f Race Speed Rating Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.

HERO OF THE HOUR won three times over six furlongs here early last year but may now be better served by this trip. The selection didn't enjoy a clear run on his latest try over seven when keeping on behind Prince Of Abington in January and certainly found five furlongs too sharp last time. The Cola Brasil was only headed close home in that race won by Prince Of Abington and is closely matched with River Derwent having finished a close third to that rival in a claimer last month. The booking of James Ryan catches the eye. Maestro Stick showed much improved form when causing a 66/1 shock in a claimer over six earlier this month.

This looks ultra-competitive and it may pay to take a chance on HERO OF THE HOUR. He needs to shrug off a lesser effort over the minimum trip latest but there have been definite signs his turn isn't far away previously this winter and the fitting of a first-time visor could well put an extra edge on him. The Cola Brasil and Ferrybank are others to consider, with Maestro Stick, a winner in claiming company over 6f here 3 weeks ago another in the mix with a repeat.

The one to beat could well be FERRYBANK who won for this rider here in January and could well appreciate dropping back to this trip

18:15 Newcastle Handicap (Class 6) 8f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

Blacklion has to be of interest having filled second place on his handicap debut at Chelmsford last week, but marginal preference is for TAKEITYOUREMINE. Archie Watson's filly put in a career-best when runner-up in maiden company last month and a mark of 46 should be workable on her handicap bow, especially as she may improve for the application of first-time cheekpieces. Trust Time edges out Loubiere to be best of the rest.

This represents a golden opportunity for BLACKLION, who took a significant step forward on his handicap debut/first run since being gelded when runner-up with a hood enlisted at Chelmsford last week. He is entitled to come on for that run (first start following a 5-month break) and should make a bold bid to go one better if proving equally effective on this surface. This stiffer test promises to suit Ocean Bliss and she is second choice ahead of Takeityouremine.

The one who makes most appeal is Mick Appleby's OCEAN BLISS, who has shaped as though she'll be suited by 1m and she can do better

18:30 Dundalk Maiden 7f Race Speed Rating Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.

SAKTI showed smart form when filling the runner-up spot on all three starts as a juvenile and should prove difficult to beat. The daughter of Caravaggio was narrowly denied by Brilliant on debut at Leopardstown and was highly tried on both subsequent outings including behind Vespertilio in the Group 2 Debutante Stakes at the Curragh. Paddy Twomey wasted no time getting off the mark for the new turf season at the Curragh on Monday and he introduces Cill Mocheallog, a son of Phoenix Of Spain from a speedy family. Aratayvo is another to consider as he was only beaten a length by hot-pot Bright Stripes over this trip at Naas last autumn.

SAKTI sets a very high standard back in maiden company and ought to prove hard to beat. Aratayvo and newcomer Cill Mocheallog can battle it out for minor honours.

The overall strength of her form from last year makes SAKTI very hard to oppose here on the way to possibly much better things

18:45 Newcastle Handicap (Class 4) 7f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

On just his second start for Grant Tuer, LAHAB finished one and a half lengths behind the in-form Danielsflyer over a mile here earlier this month but a 5lb swing in the weights, coupled with the step back to 7f, can see that form reversed this time around. One More Dream clearly thrives off racing, having already run four times this month, and on the back of an admirable second off a 1lb lower mark last week, the consistent son of Bated Breath holds obvious claims to at least hit the frame once more.

STREAK LIGHTNING didn't enjoy the rub of the green here last time so Ruth Carr's 7-y-o is worth siding with to capitalise on a lenient mark. Fellow C&D scorer Starshiba is also weighted to have a big say, while recent victors One More Dream and Mumayaz command plenty of respect too under their penalties.

A competitive event in which ONE MORE DREAM appeals most. He was just touched off a week ago and he's now reunited with a 5lb claimer

19:00 Dundalk Handicap 8f Race Speed Rating Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.

NATURAL RULER had Hoover Dam three lengths back in third when beating all bar the long odds-on Al Mudhaffar in a maiden over C&D a fortnight ago. The Johnny Murtagh-trained colt showed nice progress compared with his two outings at the Curragh last year and appears reasonably treated on handicap debut. Aisling Oscar twice beat Mary Bagot here earlier this year and the latter franked the form by going one better over a mile earlier this month with Galician Girl about three lengths behind in third, and Blue Soul and Special Angel in fifth and sixth respectively. Fivecromwellplace belied odds of 40/1 when prominent throughout to score on his handicap debut last Friday.

NATURAL RULER came clear with a promising sort when second in a C&D maiden last time, so a mark of 69 is likely to underestimate him. As such, he takes marginal preference over last-time-out winners Aisling Oscar and Mary Bagot in what looks a competitive contest for the grade.

NATURAL RULER (nap), who stayed on well into a clear second over C&D a fortnight ago on handicap debut and has likely more to offer

19:15 Newcastle Handicap (Class 6) 6f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

GLAMOROUS EXPRESS scored with more in hand than the winning margin suggests when coming from off the pace over 6f at Kempton most recently and the suspicion is that a 5lb penalty may not be enough to anchor Tony Carroll's five-year-old. Water Of Leith kept on well when finishing second over 5f at Wolverhampton last week and, stepping up to 6f off an unchanged mark, he commands respect. Sydney Bay is 4lb above his last winning mark but providing a recent wind operation has the desired effect, he can make his presence felt in a race of this nature.

WATER OF LEITH signed off in 2023 by scoring at Southwell and ran at least as well when runner-up at Wolverhampton on his comeback, so he gets the nod from an unchanged mark over the penalised Glamorous Express. Dream Together is well treated on the pick of last season's form and can complete the placings from the bottom of the weights.

This can to go to GLAMOROUS EXPRESS, who won with a bit more in hand than the winning margin suggested at Kempton last time

19:30 Dundalk Handicap 8f Race Speed Rating Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.

Ado McGuinness holds a strong hand here and EXQUISITE ACCLAIM may prove the pick of his trio. The top-weight appears equally effective over seven or a mile and recorded a second win here this winter when beating stablemate Hightimeyouwon last month, with Chavajod and Not Forgotten back in fourth and fifth respectively. The selection has continually progressed over the past six months and there may still be some juice in his current rating. Not Forgotten, Rampage, Shoot To Kill and Rockbury Lad were all only separated by about a length when running behind Super Over over C&D a fortnight ago, while Skontonovski recorded a seventh career win here last November and Colin Keane is an interesting booking.

The vote goes to RAMPAGE, who caught the eye when fourth on his reappearance over this C&D and he wasn't beaten far in a big-field handicap at the Curragh next time. He remains unexposed on the all-weather and is up to winning a race off this sort of mark. It's hard to knock Exquisite Acclaim and he is likely to make another bold bid from the front, with Not Forgotten and Shoot To Kill others to consider in an open-looking contest.

Value could be had in RAMPAGE, unlucky in running when a close fourth over C&D prior to a fair run at the Curragh on Monday

19:45 Newcastle Handicap (Class 6) 5f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

Golden Rainbow is at the top of his game and is attractively weighted for his return to handicap company, despite a 5lb penalty imposed for Monday's cosy success in a classified stakes over this course and distance. However, this is competitive, with the likes of Mumcat, Latin Five (winner) and PHOENIX STAR (second) all boasting solid credentials. The latter in particular captures the imagination and, assuming he breaks sharply, the eight-year-old can turn around recent C&D form with Latin Five on these revised terms.

There wasn't much between LATIN FIVE and Phoenix Star when they met here in September, with the former narrowly prevailing, and they again fought out the finish of another C&D handicap a fortnight ago. Latin Five gained his revenge on that occasion, proving ¾-length too strong for Jessica Macey's charge, and he looks capable of following up off this 4 lb higher mark. Phoenix Star is consistent and should be bang there once again, while Starsong is also accorded respect.

There may be enough of a pace on to play to the strengths of LATIN FIVE (nap), who notched a first AW success over this C&D last time

20:00 Dundalk Handicap 11f Race Speed Rating Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.

TRISHULI RIVER appreciated the step up to a mile when successful here last November and the evidence of her two subsequent starts suggest she could be suited by this longer distance. The Shane Crawley-trained filly was denied a clear run early in the straight before staying on into fourth last time and her pedigree also gives cause for optimism at the trip. Dark Street beat Together Aclaim (won since) over C&D in January and recorded a further course win over 1m4f earlier this month when pegging back Picpoul close home, with Darkened over three lengths back in third. Dylan Browne McMonagle is an eye-catching booking on five-time course winner Power Drive.

Having made the breakthrough over 1m here in December, TRISHULI RIVER has run with credit both starts since and, with this step up in trip worth exploring, she could well be worth siding with to come out on top. Picpoul and Dark Street are another in-form pair fancied to feature, with Darkened another holding each-way claims.

A chance is taken here on TOGETHER ACLAIM, showing progressive form of late and who gets on well with this rider

20:15 Newcastle Stakes (Class 6) 7f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

DRAKEHOLES delivered his challenge a fraction too late when he finished a neck second in a similar race over this course and distance 15 days ago. However, with the third home in that race subsequently boosting the form, there is good reason to give the five-year-old another chance. Copper Mountain rates the chief danger from a handy draw, although Rum Runner cannot be dismissed either.

DRAKEHOLES can boast a C&D success and rates the pick at these weights so gets the verdict in this open classified event. Southwell scorer Headshot appeals as the one to give Alison Hamilton's 5-y-o most to do ahead of course winners Rum Runner and Billy McGarry.

Having posted a good effort here last time, DRAKEHOLES gets the vote. Variety Island is second choice.

20:30 Dundalk Handicap 12f Race Speed Rating Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.

PALACE ROCK can gain a deserved win after a series of solid efforts here this year. The dual-purpose gelding, who won a maiden over C&D back in 2021, had Celtic Revival, Fascinating Shadow and Banana Three all behind in third, fourth and fifth respectively when headed on the line by Nibiru and again shaped well last time in a higher-class handicap when third to Satono Chevalier. How About No justified strong support when landing a maiden over C&D last month and is not an easy one for the handicapper to assess. Squire Danagher and Unterberg both step up in trip after winning over an extended 1m2f last time.

Joseph O'Brien's unexposed C&D winner HOW ABOUT NO has more to come now he steps into handicap company so edges the vote in this competitive handicap. Celtic Renvival is feared most given his superb record round here, although a good case can also be made for Unterberg, Squire Danagher and Banana Three.

How About Now is the dark horse and likely market leader but preference is for another handicap debutant SQUIRE DANAGHER
