There were 35 Races on Thursday 17th April 2025 across 5 meetings. There was 8 races at Newmarket, 7 races at Cheltenham, 7 races at Ripon, 7 races at Ffos Las, 6 races at Clonmel, no doubt Tomform helped you find a winner.
The data in the racecards below is for the past year. View the racecard key.
Class & Speed Card

Exclamation shaped with considerable promise when finishing third in the Brocklesby recently and although respected, MILITARY CODE gets the vote. Charlie Appleby has an excellent record with his youngsters on the Rowley Mile and the son of Wootton Bassett could enhance that further. Moonfall, a half-brother to stablemate Soprano, has plenty to recommend him on paper and must enter calculations, while This Guy is worth considering too.

The shortlist comprises interesting newcomers MOONFALL, This Guy and Military Code in that order of preference.
Class & Speed Card

Having struggled in a couple of Grade 1's, most recently the Triumph here last month, SAINTE LUCIE looks fairly treated from a mark of 131 now sent handicapping and it would come as no surprise were Willie Mullins' filly to bounce back. Fellow title chaser Dan Skelton is represented by Doncaster winner Our Lil, who, from the foot of the handicap, looks capable of further improvement. Others to note include Maxios Prime and Matwana.

Willie Mullins' filly SAINTE LUCIE travelled well for a long way in last month's Triumph and could have too much class for this field.
Class & Speed Card

Raafedd did plenty wrong but caught the eye when staying on into sixth on his racecourse bow at Chelmsford in November and the son of Teofilo, picked up for 370,000gns as a yearling, should improve for that initial experience. Similar comments apply to Nakeeb, who has previous track craft on his side, while Kaleido, Indian Springs and Competizione are a few others to consider. However, Andrew Balding has enjoyed a fine start to the new turf season and it might be worth taking a chance on his debutant TIME ALLOWED, whose half-brother Topanga didn't waste much time opening his account.

A handful of these showed significant promise on debut last year, with Mishriff's bother KALEIDO possibly the pick of them.
Class & Speed Card

THE QUIET GENT can give weight and a beating to his rivals on his seasonal bow. He posted two solid efforts on the all-weather towards the back end of last year, building on his Wolverhampton debut second when making all at Kempton, and is likely to be an even better three-year-old. Miss Yorkshire met trouble in running when runner-up on her debut over 7f at Newcastle and must enter calculations, while the upped-in-trip Marajito also holds solid claims. Kennedys Pass makes most appeal of the newcomers.

The sole previous winner, THE QUIET GENT, is taken to defy his penalty, although he's up against three newcomers.
Class & Speed Card

SAINTE DOCTOR made it five from 14 over the larger obstacles when completing her hat-trick at Ludlow recently and although 6lb higher today, Neil Mulholland's mare has shown no signs of relenting and might be up to the task. Front runner Moviddy made all to win at Wincanton last time out. A prominent style of racing can often benefit around here so she merits respect, along with stablemates Lady Jago and Coco Mademoiselle, neither of whom should be far away for team Skelton.

Topweight COCO MADEMOISELLE shaped very much as though she'll benefit from today's return to a staying trip when second last month.
Class & Speed Card

BYBLOS went close on a couple of occasions last season, most recently when filling the runner-up spot over C&D in October. The Frankel colt, a half-brother to the classy Siskin who was arguably a better three-year-old than he was a juvenile, might not be of a similar echelon, but an opening mark of 84 looks workable and he could step forward now. Yabher was unsuited by testing conditions at Haydock when last seen but he ought to fare better on better ground, while Hugo Palmer, who sprung a surprise to win this 12 months ago with a 33/1 shot , looks to have a solid chance with King Casper.

Most of the runners remain unexposed. BYBLOS looks particularly interesting and he's first choice ahead of Present Times.
Class & Speed Card

Middle Ages was green when eighth on his debut over 7f at Sandown in July last year and he may have improved during his time away from the track. However, it could be worth focusing on a couple of newcomers, namely EMERALD ISLAND and Gravitas. The latter is a full-brother to Group 3 winner River Of Stars and will likely know his job, but David Menuisier's Galiway colt edges the vote as he is certainly bred to have plenty of ability.

Those with form don't convince but the newcomers Emerald Island and GRAVITAS make appeal on paper and the latter is the pick.
Class & Speed Card

This is competitive and only a tentative vote can go to BETHPAGE, who showed the benefit of recent wind surgery when on target at Wincanton last month. Emma Lavelle's charge has scope for further improvement and she does not look overburdened by a subsequent 3lb rise, while conditions ought to favour the mare too. Batwomen picked up well to score at Fontwell last Friday having travelled strongly into contention and she is a leading player under a 6lb penalty. Half a length separated Greyval (winner) and Shantwopointfive (second) at Chepstow last time and the pair should be closely matched once again on revised terms.

This might go to progressive SHANTWOPOINTFIVE (nap) who posted a good effort last month and should be aided by a stronger gallop here.
Class & Speed Card

Bullet Point held off the late challenge of Tribal Chief when successful on the soft going here in November. The latter reopposes on slightly better terms with Ryan Moore taking over the reins and may well turn the tables. Harper's Ferry could have a say in proceedings representing last year's winning trainer, but a chance is taken on SKUKUZA. The latter has been off the track since finishing a fine second in the Britannia at Royal Ascot last summer and the son of Blue Point has the potential to rate even higher this season.

A really good race featuring a few 4yos who should have more to offer. Top of that list is HARPER'S FERRY after his Doncaster win.
Class & Speed Card

GREEN PURSUIT ran out an impressive winner on his seasonal/stable debut at Catterick last Wednesday and, with the promise of more to come, he is fancied to follow up under a 6lb penalty. Lord Roxby showed plenty as a juvenile and is likely to be better at three, while the top-rated Cairdeas may improve having undergone a gelding operation. Far Above The Law and American Style are others to keep an eye on.

Marginal preference is for CAIRDEAS, who might have more to offer, over recent winner Green Pursuit.
Class & Speed Card

Willie Mullins continues his assault on the trainers' championship with both A Penny A Hundred and Judicieuse Allen entered here, though neither look particularly well handicapped and they may struggle to give the weight away to Henry Daly's PARTY VIBES. A winner last time out at Leicester over a fraction shorter, the manner of that performance suggests an added 3lb from the handicapper may not be enough to stop her. Theatre Native is also of interest stepping up in trip and may not have reached her ceiling of ability over fences.

In a tight race preference is for THEATRE NATIVE who has jumped well so far over fences and Cheltenham should suit her.
Class & Speed Card

ANNO DOMINI lost his unbeaten record upped in class for the Group 1 Futurity at Doncaster. The son of New Bay still finished a respectable fifth on that occasion and the Irish 2000 Guineas entry can resume winning ways here en route to better things. Tiger Mask is more exposed, though sets a decent standard having finished fourth in the Group 2 Vintage Stakes at Goodwood last summer, while the course and distance winner Treble Tee is entered in next month's 2000 Guineas and is also worthy of respect.

Anno Domini looks sure to go well but preference is for TREBLE TEE, with the form of his comfortable C&D debut success boosted.
Class & Speed Card

FORTAMOUR counts the 2022 and 2024 editions of this race among his six previous C&D victories and is weighted to be a key player from just 1lb higher than his latest winning mark. The selections's lack of a recent run is a potential stumbling block and creates some hope for last year's third, Danzan, who could have a big say from 5lb lower this time. Wobwobwob, Rock Opera and Cairn Gorm are others to keep a close eye on in the betting market.

Plenty to consider and WOBWOBWOB (nap) may be the pick. Cairn Gorm and Aberama Gold are others to look at.
Class & Speed Card

Metkayina was not disgraced when a 50/1 fifth in the Ryanair Mares' Novices' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival last month and the step up in trip here is expected to suit. La Pinsonniere was unlucky at Newbury to be beaten half a length, despite being badly hampered by a faller at the second. However, Irish raider SAINTE TARTARE hacked up to take her maiden at Limerick and, with the runner-up winning equally impressively next time out, the form looks solid. The step up in class is unlikely to be a barrier to success.

Her run here at the Festival was disappointing but JUBILEE ALPHA is better than that and remains a smart prospect.
Class & Speed Card

FAIR WIND blotted his copybook when refusing to race at Goodwood last summer. A chance is taken that was one-off, as Owen Burrows' sprinter had shown progressive form before that culminating in a victory at Ascot, and he returns to the fray only 4lb higher. The X O ended last season with creditable second in a competitive affair at Doncaster and Ryan Moore's presence takes the eye on stable debut for Robert Cowell, while Rosario is match fit from competing on the all-weather and he could have a say in the outcome.

Fair Wind refused to race last July but he still has potential. THE X O is interesting on the drop to 5f for his new yard.
Class & Speed Card

EY UP ITS THE BOSS is already a dual C&D winner and, having finished a creditable third off this mark in a similarly competitive handicap when last seen, there is a lot to like about the six-year-old's chances of making a winning seasonal debut. Lord Protector is feared most resuming off 10lb below his last winning rating, although Financer and Wintercrack are others with solid place claims in this company.

In an open-looking handicap LORD PROTECTOR is given a chance to build on a promising reappearance second on AW last month.
Class & Speed Card

SOMESPRING SPECIAL has switched to Philip Hobbs and Johnson White' yard since landing this contest last year. She beat a subsequent winner with the minimum of fuss at Wincanton on her reappearance and appears primed to make another bold bid on the strength of that form. Lime Drop is a tough and consistent chaser and can feature again raised 4lb for beating the reopposing Ostrava Du Berlais (second) at Warwick, while Shakeyatailfeather posted her best effort over fences to date when finding one too good at Leicester and she looks to have more to offer.

This drop back to 2m could work in favour of SHAKEYATAILFEATHER who is belatedly reunited with Harry Skelton.
Class & Speed Card

Filanderer has adapted well to chasing and commands respect after wins at Market Rasen and Wincanton. The switch to a left-handed circuit should assist Hughie Morrison's improving gelding and he is readily fancied to confirm his superiority over Bertie Wooster, who was well held in third in that latter event. However, FAY CE QUE VOUDRAS is handily treated in comparison to her hurdles rating and, on her first start after wind surgery, this could be a good time to catch the unexposed nine-year-old.

The recent C&D winner Princess Keri is a threat but this can go to the hat-trick seeking FILANDERER.
Class & Speed Card

Letsbeatsepsis has been gelded since last season and with the Moore team in good heart, he is worth a market watch off a fairly lenient mark for his handicap debut. Cavolo Nero won on his debut at Southwell and was a solid second on his only other start with the promise of more to come. The vote, though, goes to POWER FIZZ. Unplaced last year, he returned from a wind operation with an eased down victory in a Newcastle maiden and may gain an advantage on the front end.

Judged on breeding there should be further improvement to come from POWER FIZZ. Second choice is Cavolo Nero.
Class & Speed Card

The Outlaw has won both starts since being stepped up to a mile but he is yet to place on the turf despite three attempts, which has to be a concern for his supporters. Flagon Dry progressed nicely as a two-year-old, with a fifth and a second at Wolverhampton before a narrow win at Southwell, and he could have more to offer this season, but LAST SHAMARDAL may have their measure. Another making his turf debut, an added 3lb might not be enough to stop him completing the hat-trick.

The Outlaw, FLAGON DRY & Last Shamardal are last-time-out AW winners. Turf is an unknown for them, but Flagon Dry tempts most.
Class & Speed Card

EMPIRE SUCCES stands out having already finished first past the post in a maiden hurdle last October. Runner-up in a four-year-old point-to-point last May, he beat the now 116-rated Rue Taylor to score at Wexford in October but was later disqualified due to a failed test. He was well enough held at Tipperary in November but if he returns to his point-to-point or Wexford form, the five-year-old should take all the beating. Is Charlie Around ran well here in February and has a rating of 108 but has yet to race on good ground. Kates Choice ran well at Wexford last month in a contest which is working out quite well.

This can go the way of IS CHARLIE AROUND who is improving with each outing and wasn't beaten far here last time
Class & Speed Card

Placed in point-to-points in Ireland, QUEENS ABBEY made an encouraging debut under Rules when finishing third in a competitive bumper at Newbury. Ben Pauling's inmate can launch a serious challenge with improvement expected. Taktique Gagnante is going the right way based on her third at Cork in January. She debuts for new connections with a shout if building on that promising effort, while Sheezer Dancer is a half-sister to a smart hurdle/chase winner in France and is newcomer to note for the Skelton team.

There's good reason to believe that QUEENS ABBEY can step up on her Newbury form, which reads well anyway.
Class & Speed Card

Earth Cry has held his form well over hurdles and should play a big part if he transfers that ability to chasing, while Fantastikas, Balkardy and Cap Du Nord can have an impact in a race of this nature. However, PEDLEY WOOD is surely better than he managed last time out and, having won his two previous starts in a convincing manner, it would be no surprise to see the Joe Tizzard-trained gelding bounce back.

A tough puzzle. It is worth chancing HOWAYA NOW, who is bred to stay well and is having only his second chase start.
Class & Speed Card

Valsharah caught the eye with a promising third despite pulling too hard on his return at Kempton last month and the son of Dark Angel may step forward. White Crown Star was all out to win narrowly at Kempton in late March but is hard to ignore with the Andrew Balding yard firing in plenty of winners, but a chance is take on SIMPLY BLUE. Two good places last season suggest an opening mark of 76 may prove to be lenient.

The vote goes to interesting NOBLE GUEST (nap), who is favourably treated on his best 2yo effort. White Crown Star is feared most.
Class & Speed Card

Ellie-May Croot won this in 2023 on Dogged and she could go close once more aboard Bowood, a C&D winner who ought to be better suited by a return to turf after failing to register a victory on the all-weather. Dutch Decoy's latest win was off 5lb higher back in 2023. He has been competing in better races and could make the most of this drop in class, but he may struggle to cope with GARDEN OASIS, who has won here six times and placed on six other occasions.

There's not a lot of worthwhile recent form on offer but BOWOOD, a C&D winner, makes some appeal.
Class & Speed Card

Course bumper winner FAD EADRAINN has good hurdles form and can carry his 8lb penalty and win. A ground-versatile and consistent performer, he was beaten by a Grade 1-placed winner last month and notably finished ahead of two subsequent maiden hurdle winners at Navan, which suggests he is better than his 120 rating. Consistent Hello Jack is the top adjusted-rated runner and is suited by good ground. Frankel-sired Polemon is a three-time Flat winner who needs to show improvement on his hurdles form to win, but faster ground would greatly help his chances.

Runner-up in a strong Navan maiden hurdle last time, FAD EADRAINN(nap) should be able to go one better even carrying an 8lb penalty.
Class & Speed Card

The consistent DRASH ON RUBY was yet to be asked a serious question when she fell three out at Wincanton last month and this presents the nine-year-old with a good chance of bouncing straight back. With several others struggling to find their form, perhaps the handicap debutant Delgany Deadline could be the chief danger to the selection from a workable first mark. Les's Jersey Royal and Iron Heart are others for the shortlist.

She ran poorly two starts back but TUSCAN ROSE has otherwise been running well this season and is preferred over Drash On Ruby.
Class & Speed Card

RAYDAMANN has run well in two recent maiden hurdles and might turn Christmas form with today's rival Autumn Twist, who is also rated 1lb higher. The selection was an able Flat performer last year and while 15 lengths behind Autumn Twist at Leopardstown, had valid excuses for that performance. His improved subsequent runs are thus encouraging and he also holds Shaboozee on recent Limerick form.

Though Autumn Twist is 1lb above RAYDAMANN on official ratings, preference is for the latter, who is more ground versatile
Class & Speed Card

All Well And Good has some decent bumper form to his name, including a win at Worcester, but failed to take to hurdles at Wetherby and he will need to brush up his jumping to have a say here. Ronnies Rules is another to consider after winning a point-to-point and three bumpers before unseating on both starts over hurdles, but JACKSTELL is narrowly preferred. Second at Ascot on his first start after wind surgery, if the six-year-old improves for that he may be good enough under Gavin Sheehan.

Long-absent mare FLIRTATIOUS GIRL ran well when last in action and is selected in the hope she can make up for lost time.
Class & Speed Card

VOLEZ VOUS has taken advantage of the recent drop to Ireland's minimum hurdle rating and is seeking a course hat-trick. Despite being well-bred, her initial form was poor but scored from a rating of just 72 here in February, before following up last month. In top form, she has good ground form and can improve past today's 87 rating. Queenofthelodge's initial hurdles form was also poor but showed nice ability in finishing second twice last October and will be ready on seasonal reappearance. Ex-Nicky Henderson-trained Love Bite, a half-sister to Gold Cup-placed Might Bite, was a fortunate November point-to-point winner.

Hat-trick seeking Volez Vous has a hefty 8lb rise and she's taken on with QUEENOFTHELODGE who was on an upward curve when last seen
Class & Speed Card

STREAM OF STARS appears to have plenty in his favour having won over this trip twice before. Dropped 2lb after his Taunton fourth last time, the 10-year-old is heading towards a mark he has proved he can handle with James Turner's claim a bonus. Indeevar Bleu is interesting returning from a wind operation on his handicap debut and after only four starts he may have more to offer, leaving Klic Boum and Another Fine Mess to battle it out for third spot.

Interesting handicap debutant INDEEVAR BLEU (nap) is preferred. The similarly unexposed Lass De La Blairie is second choice.
Class & Speed Card

PARTY PRESIDENT won a big-field handicap hurdle recently and has an obvious chance again, as he races on similarly good ground. His form as a four-year-old last year was ordinary but might continue to progress for his owner/rider, despite having been raised 7lb for his latest Naas success. Party Dress should be competitive off top weight, having won an ordinary maiden hurdle at Thurles last November. She is an able Flat performer who is well suited by good ground and had a useful reappearance run at the Curragh last month. Three-time winner Duke Otto is only 4lb higher than when winning at Wexford last month.

Unexposed 5yo PARTY DRESS stands out as a nice prospect that may be ahead of her mark and she'll be fit from a recent spin on thte Flat
Class & Speed Card

Harbour Island won in taking fashion on his debut at Wetherby and warrants plenty of respect as he looks to follow up, but NECRONAUT shades the verdict in receipt of 7lb. The form of his debut second at Wincanton was done no harm when the third won next time and he will likely have learnt from that experience. Hereford third Peter's Last Deal and point-to-point scorer Moon Over America are others capable of a decent showing.

Harbour Island looked a good prospect at Wetherby but may struggle to give the weight away to Wincanton second NECRONAUT.
Class & Speed Card

COSMOS D'AINAY was carried out on his racecourse debut here last month and, being a point-to-point winner, has the best form on offer in an average-looking bumper. The selection was bought for 165,000 pounds following his points win at Borris House in December, with that race's runner-up subsequently finishing second in two UK bumpers. Sharp As Glass, who debuts in a hood, is a half-brother to two winners, including useful stayer Panda Boy. Flip Away has a nice Flat pedigree so thus makes a belated career debut in this long-distance bumper, but could be useful.

Gordon Elliott has a cracking strike-rate in bumpers and point winner COSMOS D'AINAY should appreciate this test up in trip
Class & Speed Card

THE BLUE ROOM sets the standard with his solid performances at Aintree and Exeter and he could prove difficult to beat representing a trainer that boasts a healthy strike-rate with his runners at this track. Jaffa Cake was a well-backed favourite on his debut at Doncaster and only found a smart mare too good (since fourth in Grade 2 company at Aintree). Ben Pauling's charge will likely be involved at the finish here, while Eton Mes and Kings Champion are others to keep an eye on.

The trio to concentrate on are THE BLUE ROOM, Jaffa Cake, and the Paul Nicholls-trained newcomer Kings Champion.
Ths is the racecard key.
