13:55 Catterick Handicap (Class 6) 5f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

Stroxx held on to make all in a classified stakes at Chelmsford on his latest outing and he has to be considered on his return to the handicap ranks. However, the vote goes to ZOOM STAR, who failed to justify favouritism over C&D in October, but she was far from disgraced in fourth that day. Bryan Smart's mare is 1lb lower and can make a winning return to action. Rockley Point completes the shortlist after his narrow Newcastle defeat.

A tight-knit handicap in which veteran ROCKLEY POINT edges the vote on the back of his good recent Newcastle second. Fellow C&D scorer Captain Corcoran could emerge as the main danger if, as expected, building on his reappearance seventh in the same race. Golden Gal is another who could have a say if back on her A-game.

Two-time course winner GOLDEN GAL has dropped back down to her last winning mark and could improve for last month's reappearance run.

14:25 Catterick Handicap (Class 6) 5f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

Sergeant Mayer filled the runner-up spot on each of his last three starts back in August and September, and he remains on the same rating so is likely to be thereabouts. However, preference is for CRACK THE KODE, who struck by a short head over track and trip in October. Kevin Ryan's gelding is 3lb higher, but can continue his upward curve on his return to the fray and make it three wins out of his last four. Handicap debutant Big Blue Boy warrants a market check in a first-time tongue-tie.

WICHAHPI enjoyed a good first season and is taken to start 2024 in style with the form of her closing Newcastle second looking strong. Stash The Cash appeals as a likely improver now going handicapping so is next on the list ahead of the handily-weighted Ninety Nine.

Wichahpi is greatly respected but the class-dropping NINETY NINE is interesting on her peak 2yo efforts.

14:55 Catterick Handicap (Class 6) 12f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

BONNE VITESSE has failed to fire in three spins over timber since hitting the crossbar in a class 5 event over 2m2f at Pontefract in October. Micky Hammond's mare is only 1lb higher on her return to the Flat and should relish conditions so she gets the nod. The main threat might be Heatherdown Hero, who won and finished second in two starts at Newcastle last month and he has to be respected on his return to the turf. Carlton is another to note.

SUGARPIEHONEYBUNCH revels under these underfoot conditions and is fancied to bounce back to form in style from a winning mark and follow up her success in this event a year ago. Newcastle runner-up Heatherdown Hero appeals as the one to give Simon West's mare most to do, although a solid case can also be made for in-form pair Carlton and Lexington Hero.

A pretty useful hurdler, CLEAR WHITE LIGHT hasn't had many chances on the Flat and he ran well in a handicap here last April.

15:25 Catterick Stakes (Class 5) 7f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Unlucky not to get his head in front towards the back end of last season, EYE OF DUBAI is likely to relish the step up in trip and this looks like an ideal opportunity to get his three-year-old campaign off to the perfect start. Elemental Eye wasn't far away on his handicap debut at Ayr, while newcomer Moon Solitaire is a half-sister to Abbaye winner Wizz Kid so must be monitored for market support.

EYE OF DUBAI shaped with a good deal of promise when finishing runner-up on each of his 2 starts as a juvenile during the autumn and, gelded ahead of his return, he looks a big player with further progress anticipated. Moon Solitaire makes plenty of appeal for a yard adept at readying a newcomer and is respected, with Elemental Eye completing the shortlist.

This can go to the newly gelded EYE OF DUBAI, who has shown enough in two starts to suggest he has a race of this nature in him.

AL MUQDAD may have only had the one start on turf, for previous connections, but he is a half-brother to a Listed winner on the surface and there should be more to come after recently breaking the maiden at Newcastle. A winner of three of his last four C&D starts, Mutanaaseq can follow the selection home, with others to note including Beauty Choice, Camacho Star and Sir Maxi.

A competitive contest and it could just be worth chancing bottom-weight LANGHOLM. Runner-up on his return over C&D 12 months ago, he comes here operating from a handy mark and conditions will hold no fears for Michael Dods's 8-y-o. Camacho Star, back on turf, and Eight Mile are others to consider, with Al Muqdad and Beauty Choice others entering the reckoning.

Although recent Newcastle scorer AL MUQDAD (nap) is yet to run on testing ground, he has plenty of soft-ground winners in his pedigree.

16:27 Catterick Handicap (Class 5) 6f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

KNICKS capped off his juvenile campaign with a victory over the now 83-rated Eminny at Nottingham in September. Now 4lb higher ahead of his return to action/stable debut, this mark should be well within range and he is expected to mount a stern challenge. A high draw is far from ideal for Artistic Mission, but he might appreciate the switch to turf and first-time blinkers. Others to note include Shelbourne and C&D winner Act Of Violence.

SOUL SINGER needs to prove his effectiveness on this ground but he's been knocking firmly on the door on all-weather in recent weeks and could well be the way to go. Shelbourne, with a reappearance run under his belt, is feared back on turf along with Knicks, who will have no issues with forecast conditions. C&D winner Act of Violence is another who can do better this campaign.

The filly LAST APPLAUSE showed promise last autumn, including when winning a novice here, and she gets the nod on her handicap debut.

16:50 Kempton Maiden (Class 5) 8f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

BRIONI shaped well on his debut when third at Sandown and stepped forward from that display to finish runner-up over C&D. Alan King's colt arguably sets the standard on that form and appeals as the type to have progressed over the winter. Jayyash doesn't look anywhere near the finished article based on his two runs to date, but the extra furlong is likely to bring him into the reckoning. Great Chieftain is entitled to improve from his recent third at Wolverhampton, when making his first appearance since November.

BRIONI looks a useful prospect and should take plenty of stopping on his return to action. Jayyash was beaten at short odds on his Southwell reappearance but that betting strength suggests he's well regarded by the Gosden stable and he's second choice ahead of James Ferguson's Not Me.

Top of the list is BRIONI, who showed plenty of promise in the autumn and sets a clear standard on his close call over C&D last time.

17:00 Catterick Handicap (Class 5) 6f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Impressor was a model of consistency last year, but his record following a break would have to temper enthusiasm slightly. With that in mind, a chance can be taken on MERSEA. The daughter of Born To Sea shaped with more promise than the beaten distance would suggest at Wolverhampton last month and, from a 2lb lower mark, she could take advantage. John Kirkup remains well treated on past exploits and must enter the reckoning, while fellow veteran Redrosezorro loves it around here and is no back number.

TRILBY is still a maiden but he ran well on his final 2 outings last year and is selected to make a winning return. Slainte Mhath could bounce back on her return to action, while Mersea should appreciate this marked drop in grade.

The mare SLAINTE MHATH won three times last year and is taken to continue the good work with another victory on her reappearance.

17:25 Kempton Maiden (Class 5) 8f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

SCREAMING EAGLE left behind his debut performance when almost getting off the mark here over 7f in October and Andrew Balding's colt, whose dam is a half-sister to a Gimcrack hero and a dual Group 3 winner, should have no issue with the return to a mile. Saji warrants the utmost respect on his racecourse bow for top connections, while Mighty Nebula contested the Wood Ditton on his introduction at Newmarket last April and is of interest after being gelded.

This has the makings of an above-average maiden, with several well-bred sorts from top yards, but SAJI might be the newcomer to side with given that he's bred to have more pace than some. Screaming Eagle is an obvious player with the experience edge and Anglepoise is another one with an eye-catching pedigree.

The vote goes to SCREAMING EAGLE who went very close here in October and is open to more progress back up in trip on his return.

Charlie Appleby saddles two very interesting newcomers in WINTER SNOWFALL, a daughter of Galileo who is related to top Godolphin performers including Thunder Snow, and Sahara Snow, a half-sister to Group/Grade 1 winner Wuheida. Preference is for the former, with her being the choice of William Buick. Of those with experience, Juneberry is likely to benefit from a step up in trip following her sixth over a mile at Lingfield back in October.

Godolphin look to hold a strong hand, with preference for JUNEBERRY who showed promise on her first start at Lingfield and can progress from that experience as she goes up in trip. She is taken to get the better of the pair of Charlie Appleby-trained newcomers, with Winter Snowfall next on the list ahead of Sahara Snow.

Charlie Appleby has two striking newcomers in the line-up and the vote goes to his Galileo filly WINTER SNOWFALL.

18:30 Kempton Maiden (Class 5) 7f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

As the only two currently with an official handicap mark, Mashadi and Celtic Warrior help set a reasonable standard and each commands respect now they have both had a recent spin. With cheekpieces added, the former may be the pick of the pair at this stage. However, ROGUE ENCORE ran promisingly in two starts over 1m for his former yard and can make a flying start for the Peter Chapple-Hyam stable if dropping a furlong prompts a more sustained effort this time.

CELTIC WARRIOR was much improved when second in a Southwell handicap on reappearance and a repeat of that form could be good enough back in a maiden. Like the selection, Mashadi arrives on the back of a good recent effort in handicap company and is the chief threat on form. Rogue Encore has shown promise on both starts and should also figure, while General Assembly would also enter the reckoning if the betting vibes are strong having switched to George Boughey.

This is a tight call between Mashadi and CELTIC WARRIOR but the vote goes to Andrew Balding's gelding.

19:00 Kempton Handicap (Class 3) 7f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

Already a dual C&D winner, and one who has won when fresh before, HICKORY is still open to improvement and rates an appealing option at this level, despite remaining on a career-high mark. James Fanshawe's six-year-old faced much stiffer tests last season and may well find this is an ideal starting point for his new campaign. Hodler and Zero Carbon are consistent and capable of making an impact, while Kiwano is another to note back here after a spell racing in Bahrain.

HICKORY had some solid form in competitive handicaps last season and he's 2 from 3 at the track, so he's worth a chance to make a winning return at the possible expense of Zero Carbon, who represents a stable that can do no wrong at present. Revolutionise has a fitness edge over that pair and should be respected.

Preference is for James Fanshawe's HICKORY, who is well treated on his best form last season and has a record of 2-3 at this track.

19:30 Kempton Handicap (Class 5) 6f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

A comfortable winner over this trip at Newcastle, there is good reason to expect BELLA KOPELLA will cope with switching to Polytrack and she has a strong chance of following up in this company. Nigel Tinkler's filly does have a 7lb higher mark to deal with, which creates some hope for supporters of seasonal debutant Alpine Girl, who is just 1lb above her last winning figure. Recent Southwell scorer Miss Moonshine also commands respect, despite stepping up in class.

BELLA KOPELLA improved again when a smooth winner on her reappearance and could still be well treated even after a 7 lb rise. White Mist was only narrowly denied the hat-trick at Wolverhampton last month and is feared most ahead of the reliable Miss Moonshine.

White Mist and Miss Moonshine are strongly respected but the vote goes to Nigel Tinkler's progressive 4yo BELLA KOPELLA.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

HIMAWARI met with plenty of trouble in running when fourth on her handicap debut over C&D last time and, off 1lb lower, she could be hard to beat with a clear run in this company. Whiteley Way has shown promise on both starts this year and she may prove to be the main threat to the selection, ahead of Zachary and Dark Dreamer.

DARK DREAMER is bred to be better than a mark of 62 and he's been gelded since last seen, so he's worth chancing for connections who had a well-backed winner with a similar profile recently. Himawari is a big danger and Want Want is another one open to improvement.

Whiteley Way looks booked for another big run but HEARITFORTHEBOYS can capitalise on the return to Class 6 company.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

COCK AND BULL took a big step forward when a neck second over this distance on his handicap debut at Wolverhampton on Saturday and he is hard to oppose off the same mark here, despite the quick turnaround. Cracker Star has a similar profile to the selection and should not be underestimated, while Sun Dancer Girl is the pick of the remainder.

CRACKER STAR still looked in need of the experience when runner-up at Lingfield on his handicap debut 12 days ago, so he can build on that to go one better with his yard continuing in fine form. Cock And Bull is also open to further improvement and is feared most, while Sun Dancer Girl produced her best effort at this C&D on her latest outing.

Topweight CRACKER STAR (nap) was all the rage at Lingfield and was a bit unlucky as the winner got first run on him.

There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.

The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.

Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.

In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses.
