Somespring Special

10/1(-67%)
(1) Somespring Special 10/1, Won twice over hurdles last spring but pulled up in 2 chases at Wincanton towards the end of 2023. Connections persevere over fences back from 4 months off but can only watch.
Possible excuses for two pull-ups over fences; twice successful as a hurdler; may feature.

2nd (4) Magistrato (17/2 -42%)
Magistrato

17/2(-42%)
(4) Magistrato 17/2, Won novices' handicap chase at Warwick (2m) last May on final start for Paul Nicholls. Mostly creditable efforts for new yard (second at Huntingdon latest) but he can look awkward under pressure.
Quirky but if getting loose on the lead around here he'd probably go close.

3rd (5) Fame And Fun (9/4 -29%)
Fame And Fun

9/4(-29%)
(5) Fame And Fun 9/4, Dual 19f hurdles scorer last season and left first 2 efforts over fences behind when back from a break to win over C&D a fortnight ago. Has the potential for better now he's up and running over fences.
Best chase form yet when scoring narrowly over C&D two weeks ago; big shout.

4th (2) Godot (4/1 +11%)
Godot

4/1(+11%)
(2) Godot 4/1, Dual hurdles winner who showed the benefit of his chase debut spin when narrow winner over C&D in January. Also runner-up back here in March and he shaped better than a well-held seventh might suggest at Ascot 3 weeks ago. Respected back here.
Goes particularly well here; struggled last time but in a fairly decent handicap at Ascot.

Abingworth

6/4(+33%)
(3) Abingworth 6/4, Course hurdle winner and progressive over fences, gaining win number 2 at Wincanton (2½m, heavy) 18 days ago. Only nudged up 2 lb for that and another bold show is likely.
Has his own way of jumping but has finished first or second in five of his six chases.

13:30 Plumpton Handicap Chase (Class 4) 20f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

ABINGWORTH gained his second victory over fences at Wincanton on his latest start and the six-year-old, who was raised 2lb by the handicapper, appears capable of having more to offer. Fame And Fun improved to score over C&D a fortnight ago and is likely to be the strongest threat to the selection, while the return to a left-handed track will benefit the cause of Magistrato.

FAME AND FUN could kick on from his recent C&D success and is taken to make light of a 4 lb rise, perhaps at the main expense of Gary Moore's Abingworth. Godot's good recent C&D record suggests he can also be competitive.

None of the five can be dismissed with confidence but FAME AND FUN ran his best race yet over fences to win over C&D two weeks ago.

(3) Fiston De Becon 6/5, Dual-winning hurdler who has made a promising start over fences this season, getting off the mark over fences in straightforward fashion at Southwell (15.8f, heavy) last month. He should remain competitive from a 4 lb higher mark.
Justified favouritism at Southwell last month; may build on that win; respected.
2
2nd (4) Toothless (6/4 +40%)
Toothless

6/4(+40%)
(4) Toothless 6/4, Dual 2m hurdles winner last season who got back on track switched to chasing when second in handicap at Wincanton in February. Backed that up when filling the same spot at Plumpton since (behind El Muchacho) and shouldn't be long in opening his account over fences.
Back in better form since switched to fences; remains attractively handicapped.

3rd (2) Chanceux (7/2 +0%)
Chanceux

7/2(+0%)
(2) Chanceux 7/2, Dual novice hurdle winner who opened chase account over C&D in December and narrowly followed up at Doncaster later that month. Very disappointing on his last 2 starts however, so will need to bounce back. Hood left off.

13:47 Hereford Handicap Chase (Class 4) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

FISTON DE BECON clearly benefited from the step back to 2m when scoring with the minimum of fuss at Southwell and, nudged up 4lb, he can bring up a double for the in-form Olly Murphy team. Toothless is the likely pace angle into the race but after hitting the woodwork on his last couple of starts, the suspicion is that the handicapper remains in control. Chanceux ran with credit when third in a higher grade over C&D last month and with his sights lowered, he is not discounted.

FISTON DE BECON got off the mark over fences in straightforward fashion at Southwell last month and a 4 lb rise may not be enough to prevent Olly Murphy's 9-y-o from following up. Toothless has hit the crossbar on both starts over the larger obstacles and he may have to settle for another silver medal, while El Muchacho (third of 5 at Fakenham on Friday) completes the shortlist.

Toothless is respected off his current mark but FISTON DE BECON is taken to follow up his Southwell win.

13:55 Down Royal Maiden Hurdle 20f Race Speed Rating Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.

MILANAWAY posted an encouraging fourth behind subsequent Grade 1 runner-up Spindleberry at Fairyhouse in January and a reproduction of that performance may suffice in these calmer waters. Cooltubrid Eva was somewhat underwhelming when a well-beaten sixth at Punchestown last time out, but the five-year-old's close-up second at Limerick in December gives her a chance. Spice Diva will find this easier than the Listed event she contested at Doncaster last month and is also noted.

The step back up in trip should suit PALLAS ATHENE and she gets the nod in an open-looking maiden. Cooltubrid Eva and Milanaway head the list of dangers.

Down in class COOLTUBRID EVA gets the vote to confirm Limerick form with Pallas Athene, who seems to have lost her way

14:05 Plumpton Handicap Hurdle (Class 5) 25f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

TOWNHILL had excuses when finishing fourth at Sedgefield last time and Tom Lacey's gelding is expected to take advantage of dropping back a couple of furlongs in distance. Fortune Forever stepped forward when runner-up at Taunton at the end of last month and has to be a key player based on that performance. Others for the shortlist include Kick Up A Storm, who sports cheekpieces for the first time, and Masterdream.

KICK UP A STORM could easily take a step forward now handicapping after a break so he's the suggestion, with confidence in his chance increased should the betting vibes be strong. Fortune Forever and Townhill have both made positive starts to their handicap careers and are the obvious dangers in a contest where it's hard to make a compelling case for many.

The pick is TOWNHILL, who was slightly disappointing when favourite last time but can still build upon his earlier win.

14:22 Hereford Novices Hurdle (Class 4) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

INSURRECTION finished a creditable third behind two classy types at Taunton before finding Listed company too hot at Exeter. Pitched back into calmer waters, this looks an ideal opportunity for him to return to winning ways. Maasai Mara comfortably accounted for a subsequent dual winner on his second start over timber at Catterick and he may emerge as the main danger, although Jour D'Evasion was progressive prior to pulling up over an extended 2m4f at Huntingdon and it would be no surprise to see him bounce back.

INSURRECTION has been given a bit of time since his slightly disappointing run at Exeter in February and can bounce back to form and prove too strong for Catterick juvenile winner Maasai Mara. Jour d'Evasion may prove best of the remainder.

Back down in grade, useful INSURRECTION is the form pick. Promising hurdler Maasai Mara is feared most.

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.

GAMIGIN is versatile regarding the trip and, with ground conditions not expected to cause any issues, there are solid reasons to expect another big run form Noel Kelly's six-year-old. Jacenry finished sixth behind the selection over the extended two miles here at the Christmas fixture but, having returned to win over this course and distance last month, he rates a strong contender with his stamina now proven. Perfect Pupil and Portnacoo are a couple of others with solid each-way claims.

There's likely more to come from last month's course scorer JACENRY so a 7 lb rise may not prevent him following up. Noel Kelly's Gamagin is another who has tasted success here this winter and is second choice ahead of Stockdale and Spatman de Cerisy, a potential improver in handicaps for Paul Nolan.

Not too many appeal here and perhaps an opportunity for the still unexposed JACENRY to follow up on last month's C&D success

RAMENSKY showed ability on the Flat for William Haggas and was purchased for 23,000 pounds following his victory in a Goodwood seller in August. Now in the care of Emma Lavelle, he has been found an excellent opportunity to make a winning start in this new discipline. A wind operation is likely to bring about improvement from Davidoc, while Sanitiser and Let's Sail Away are others who warrant a place on the shortlist.

Expect DAVIDOC to have plenty of use made of him back down in trip around here and he could be hard to peg back. Gary Moore's Sanitiser, who caught the eye in a Kempton handicap when last seen, looks set to go well. Ramensky is worth a look now starting out over hurdles.

Sanitiser is much respected but DAVIDOC has ability and he might show even more this time now getting away from deep ground.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

SPRING GALE showed a lot more promise on her second start since undergoing a breathing operation when runner-up over an extended 2m3f at Chepstow and pitched into a handicap for the first time off what looks a workable mark, she edges preference for her in-form stable. Huntingdon winner Politacus appears to be the main danger, even though a 7lb rise asks a question of her. Another summer jumping campaign looks to await River Of Joy and she warrants respect off what may prove to be a feasible mark judging by the pick of her novice form.

Impossible to rule out any of these but preference is for POLITACUS, who produced a performance more in keeping with her fairly useful bumper form when getting off the mark at Huntingdon last month and a 7 lb rise may not be enough to stop her from following up (runner-up that day a wide-margin winner since). Mistral Milly is open to improvement now handicapping, so she can chase the selection home, ahead of Queshi Bridge.

There is no temptation to oppose POLITACUS, who needed only to be pushed out to fend off a next-time-out winner last month.

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.

Dgalwaygallivantor has picked up minor money twice since breaking through at Cork and should run his race once more. PIPERS BOREEN has been much improved since going handicapping and teaming up with Conor McNamara, though, and Shane Nolan's mare could still have more to offer judging by her Leopardstown second. Annaghbeg is interesting now he steps out of maiden/novice company for the first time, with similar remarks applying to Squire Ohara.

PIPERS BOREEN is going the right way over hurdles and can register her second success. Dgalwaygallivantor and San Martino should also go well.

The proven stamina of PIPERS BOREEN can prove decisive and she is just 1lb higher than when a running on second at Leopardstown.

15:15 Plumpton Handicap Hurdle (Class 3) 25f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

NORTON HILL had little difficulty in completing a double when romping home at Hereford in December. A further 7lb rise in the ratings looks far from insurmountable for Anthony Honeyball's charge and a hat-trick could be on the cards. The biggest threat may emerge from the reappearing Broomfields Cave, who regained the winning thread at Uttoxeter in October. Although Moka De Vassy isn't the most consistent, he lurks on an attractive mark and first-time blinkers could see the six-year-old get involved.

An open-looking staying handicap with TRANSMISSION selected to come out on top back down in grade. Neil Mulholland's low-mileage 7-y-o was successful on his sole visit to this track in January and he can get the better of Norton Hill, who has been steadily progressive since joining his current yard and arrives chasing a hat-trick. San Pedro arrives in form so he can edge out For Gina for the bronze medal.

Plenty with chances in an open handicap but one who could stage a revival now back on drying ground is ROYAL PRETENDER.

GLANCE FROM CLOVER was a five-length victor over C&D and he still held every chance when falling with four to jump at Warwick in a class 3 event subsequently. Alastair Ralph's nine-year-old remains on the same mark and he looks worth sticking with. Mortens Leam hit the line well to finish third over 2m7f at Taunton on his latest outing and he won't mind this extra distance off the same rating. Newcastle winner Has Troke holds an obvious chance too.

GLANCE FROM CLOVER was in the process of running well in a stronger race at Warwick last month when falling 4 out and can return to winning ways. Has Troke and Mortens Leam rate the principal dangers.

The Hereford factor brings GLANCE FROM CLOVER, Pilot Show and Family Pot to the forefront of calculations.

15:40 Down Royal Handicap Hurdle 22f Race Speed Rating Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.

Tankardstown Diva beat Ballycairn (sixth) when denied by the smallest of margins over 2m4f here last month and the extra distance could unlock further improvement, so she ought to go close. However, preference is for A GREAT BUZZ, who is only 1lb higher than when an encouraging third at Cork. Robert Tyner's five-year-old makes only her third handicap start and she could progress to shed her maiden tag. Doonbeg Don and Mahler Appeal are others to watch out for.

A GREAT BUZZ shaped well back from a break at Cork last month and there's a race in her from a mark in the 90s on that evidence. There should be more to come from Henry de Bromhead's Doonbeg Don in handicaps so he's second choice ahead of Mahler Appeal and Tankardstown Diva.

The well-bred A GREAT BUZZ looks to be getting the hang of things now handicapping and she can improve on her third place at Cork.

15:50 Plumpton Handicap Chase (Class 4) 26f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Last-time-out Hereford scorer Crystal Moon got the better of a subsequent winner and he likely has more to come over fences. However, a 12lb rise for that victory may be enough to thwart the seven-year-old in his bid to land a double, with December C&D victor MILAN BRIDGE edging the vote. Sarah Humphrey's charge proved strong at the finish that day and he looks the better handicapped of the pair racing off only 5lb more. The hat-trick seeking Born At Midnight is sure to have his supporters too.

CRYSTAL MOON was a ready winner at Hereford last time and remains relatively unexposed over fences. He can score again. Plumpton-regular I See You Well has dropped to a handy mark and is feared most, whilst Pedley Wood and Born At Midnight are also much respected.

Provided he settles better, DELGANY MONARCH (nap) may well reverse recent course form with Born At Midnight.

16:07 Hereford Maiden Hurdle (Class 4) 20f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

This looks like a golden opportunity for the standard-setting MONTECAM. Nicky Henderson's five-year-old only found stablemate Bhaloo too good on his debut over hurdles at Doncaster before making the frame over the same C&D next time. He is likely to prove difficult to beat, with his main danger possibly Native Moon, who showed a lot more ability when fourth at Taunton in December. The booking of Sean Bowen for League Clash makes him the most appealing of the rest.

A good opportunity for MONTECAM to get off the mark for Nicky Henderson. He's made a good start over hurdles in 2 races at Doncaster and this looks easier returning from a break. Native Moon can do better, while Scotch On Da Rocks, who was well backed when disappointing at Doncaster first time up, is probably worth another chance.

The clear pick on hurdles form is MONTECAM. Second choice is Valentia.

16:15 Down Royal Maiden Chase 20f Race Speed Rating Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.

NOW IS THE HOUR found a decent amount of improvement earlier in the year, getting off the mark over hurdles at Fairyhouse before following up in a Grade 2 at Haydock. The seven-year-old has since made his chasing debut, finishing second over an inadequate 2m at Cork, and stepping back up in trip is likely to see him go one better. Duffle Coat enters calculations based on his runner-up displays at Punchestown and Gowran, while others capable of being in the mix include Extrapolation and Dreal Deal.

NOW IS THE HOUR is the pick on hurdling form and shaped encouragingly when second at Cork on chasing debut. With the return to this trip in his favour, he's preferred to Duffle Coat, with Dreal Dreal a potential player if he can return to form back over fences.

Grade 2-winning novice hurdle winner NOW IS THE HOUR (nap) should be able to go one better than on chasing debut at Cork.

16:25 Plumpton Handicap Hurdle (Class 5) 20f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Narrowly denied on his sole previous start here over 2m last December, TELLMESOMETHINGOOD has not shown much in the interim. That said, he has dropped back to that previous mark of 98, which could spark a revival. A consistent sort for most of last summer, Shandancer is one to note on his return for a new yard, while Highway One O Five has the potential to improve going further up in trip.

HIGHWAY ONE O FIVE produced one of his better efforts over hurdles when sixth at Market Rasen a fortnight ago and, with this step up in trip promising to suit, he can take a step forward to open his account. Tellmesomethingood bettered his recent efforts when fourth at Fakenham last month and could be the main danger, ahead of Paddy de Pole.

Preference is for OUTSIDE ADESA, who drops in grade after a creditable fourth at Ascot three weeks ago.

16:42 Hereford Handicap Hurdle (Class 4) 20f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

INOUI MACHIN had shown promise in some competitive contests prior to getting off the mark over hurdles over C&D last time. The unexposed six-year-old may have further improvement left to come and merits plenty of respect in this company. Legionar also won on his most recent outing, springing a surprise at Ludlow, and could prove to be the main threat to the selection, although Lemoncello should not be discounted on his UK debut.

PLAYTOGETAWAY shaped encouragingly after an absence when third at this course in January, travelling well for a long way, and he can build on that effort to resume winning ways upped in trip. Lemoncello ran to a fairly useful level in France and is respected as he makes his yard/handicap debut, with Legionar also considered.

With a 2lb rise in his mark looking manageable, INOUI MACHIN (nap) can follow up his solid C&D win. My Monty is second choice.

16:50 Down Royal Handicap Chase 20f Race Speed Rating Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.

The value may lie with TANGENTAL, who went well for a long way over further at Navan before being slightly hampered and carried right three out. The eight-year-old may have weakened into fourth on that occasion, but he was well backed and this could be the day to catch him over a more suitable distance. Twice a winner over the smaller obstacles this season, Don't Talk returns to fences off a 15lb lower mark than his timber figure so must enter calculations, along with recent Limerick scorer He Fitz In.

TANGENTAL offered more over fences at Navan when last seen 3 months ago and could be the way to go in a thin handicap. Hunt Museum is interesting now handicapping for his top owner, while Limerick-winner He Fitz In can go well again.

With a recent hurdles run under his belt it could pay to take a chance on DON'T TALK off a 15lb lower chase mark

17:00 Plumpton NH Flat Race (Class 5) 18f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

An eye-catcher on her debut at Huntingdon, CRAZIERTHANDAISY could not justify strong market support but compensation may await here. Nicky Henderson's charge is preferred to the well-bred newcomer Hello Cello, and Jakana, who only got going late in the piece on her debut at Ludlow last November. Getaways Gift may have been well held first time out at Wincanton, but the form of that race has worked out well in the interim and she is open to improvement.

CRAZIERTHANDAISY showed plenty of ability first time out and has the potential to improve, so she's a straightforward choice for all that Hello Cello is a notable newcomer for a stable with a good record in this sphere. Chocolate Hobbnob also makes appeal.

A chance is taken on JAKANA, who kept on for sixth in a big field at Ludlow that contained some useful horses.

CARO DES FLOS arrives here on the back of two very impressive victories at Market Rasen late last year and the veteran merits the utmost respect as a result, despite the 129-day break. Nine Nine Nine has been running consistently well in recent months and could make the frame once again. Kings Justice edges out Kankin to be best of the rest.

KINGS JUSTICE has been in good order and was in the process of going close when brought down at Catterick last time, so he's fancied to make amends. The hat-trick seeking Caro des Flos is a threat and Nine Nine Nine can't be ruled out.

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.

In open event, marginal preference is for ATACANTER, who was a close second off a 2lb lower mark over an extended 3m at Limerick a few weeks ago. The Abbey ran well when fourth in Listed company at Leopardstown on his most recent outing and that form suggests that he may be the main threat to the selection, although Routine Excellence and Marronstown could also go well.

ATACANTER came clear of the rest when second at Limerick 3 weeks ago and, with a performance of similar merit, he might well be able to go one better. Routine Excellence and The Abbey could pose the main threats.

A C&D winner who ran a cracker on his return at Leopardstown, THE ABBEY can improve enough from that run to score.
