VALENCIA kept good company on all three starts last year and her second to Swelter here over a mile has been well advertised since. The Joseph O'Brien-trained filly was subsequently fourth behind better-fancied stablemate Apples And Bananas in the Goffs Million and should be well up to winning a maiden. Knockmark came home well over this trip at Dundalk and should progress, while Monkstown needs to step up on the form of his two placed efforts to take a hand. Esherann and Scarlet Raider are two newcomers to keep an eye on in the market.

This looks like an ideal opportunity for VALENCIA to deliver on the promise of a second placing gained at this venue last July.

DAY TRADER won twice on the Flat in his native France and showed nice hurdling ability at Down Royal on Monday. Ground-versatile, the selection won twice in April 2024 and also competed well at some of the leading French venues. At Down Royal, he shaped quite well and finished between two more experienced jumpers. Autumn Twist ran well at Clonmel last month considering his saddle slipped and his rider thus lost irons for most of the race. He seems dependable but is vulnerable to a progressive type. Young Churchill returns wearing a tongue-tie on his first run since January.

Not much went right for AUTUMN TWIST when second at Clonmel last month and he can get his head in front if getting a smoother passage

LOMBARDI TROPHY had fellow newcomers Jr Mahon and Roosevelt behind when making a bright start over 1m2f here last month and should benefit from the experience. The son of Galileo kept on into fourth behind Stay True to suggest he will be effective over this longer trip. Vorfreude is an obvious threat having filled the runner-up spot on both outings this year over Navan's stiff 1m2f. Dabashan gave plenty of encouragement on debut when keeping on strongly in the closing stages to take third over an extended 1m2f at Dundalk in March. Kasgani should step forward from his introduction at Cork.

The most progressive of these may be LOMBARDI TROPHY, a Galileo colt who made a satisfactory debut over 1m2f here a month ago

Ask Peter was well held in fifth on her first start over hurdles at Fontwell in March, but could take a step forward after undergoing a wind operation. Even so, MACHETE BEACH looks the more appealing option. Jamie Snowden's four-year-old is two from four on the Flat and was sent off favourite off a mark of 84 at Newcastle when last seen, possibly suggesting he may show a lot at home. Sean Bowen is booked for Bohemian Breeze and he has to be respected as well.

The most interesting runner is hurdling debutant MACHETE BEACH, who looked useful during his four-race Flat career for Harry Charlton.

WESTMINSTER MOON is a smart hurdling recruit and might have sufficient ability to score on jumps debut. Group 1-placed at Munich last July, he has won four times in Poland and once in Germany and was placed at Group 3 and 2 levels respectively only last October. He made his Irish debut at Cork wearing a tongue-tie and while well held, performed to a useful level from a rating of 108. Grey Fable has a hurdle rating of 109 and has scored twice on the Flat, albeit at a much lower level. He showed ability at Gowran last October but will struggle to beat an on-song selection. Romany Brown is consistent and also makes the shortlist.

The safest option looks to be ROMANY BROWN who may have needed his last run. A repeat of his Clonmel second may be enough to take this.

LTO Selection:hiden content, hiden content,

Things haven't quite worked out for Shanagh Bob over fences so far, but the Grade 2-winning novice hurdler has time to do better and is entitled to go close should his jumping hold up. BALLINTUBBER BOY is fancied to come out on top in this match, though. The eight-year-old went agonisingly close over C&D on his chasing bow in October and natural improvement may well suffice.

Shanagh Bob is capable of running well but preference is for BALLINTUBBER BOY, who was short-headed over C&D last October.

She made a pleasing reappearance when second to Lady With The Lamp (won again since) over 6f at Cork and is probably best suited by this trip. Fiery Lucy progressed well last term and finished up with an excellent fourth to Lake Victoria in the Breeder's Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf at Del Mar. Chantez won the Listed Ingabelle Stakes here last autumn and hopefully will benefit from her comeback at the Curragh on Monday.

Six times placed in black-type races, she attained a Grade 1-placing competing against high-class geldings at the Dublin Racing Festival in February and while she steps out of novice company for the first time, should take all the beating. Royal Eagle has been placed in two Listed hurdles and while rated 1lb higher than the selection, isn't open to as much progression and makes her seasonal reappearance. BIRDMAN BOB occupied the runer-up berth over C&D prior to being pulled up at Wincanton last time, but is easily excused for that effort after he was reported to have bled. The eight-year-old is taken to bounce back and regain the winning thread. Walkinthewoods was well beaten into fourth at Ffos Las last month, but a 2lb drop in the weights may help. McGrath From Clune can beat Clondaw Robin home for third.

This modest chase might go to BIRDMAN BOB, who is well handicapped on hurdling form and ran well in a C&D chase two starts ago.

LAST KINGDOM can defy a 13lb rise following an effortless debut handicap win at the Fairyhouse Easter Festival. A debut French bumper winner last August, his initial three hurdle efforts were dull but at Fairyhouse was far more encouraging, scoring at his leisure and in the manner of a progressive four-year-old. The runner-up Stuntman Steve again ran well the following day and while 13lb better off with the selection, he is open to less progression. Top-weight Batman Girac is respected as well.

This represents a drop in class for BATMAN GIRAC who didn't run at all badly in the Scottish Champion Hurdle.

LTO Selection:hiden content, hiden content, hiden content,

Imperial Jade came up just short when bidding for a hat-trick over hurdles at Carlisle but is likely to be involved should a switch to fences suit, while the largely consistent Regal Renaissance is entitled to go close having struck the woodwork over C&D twice in recent months. However, the vote goes to LADY JAGO. On target at Wincanton in March and Warwick the following month, she struggled against the boys at Plumpton but will appreciate being back against her own sex.

Regal Renaissance may have to settle for second once again, as IMPERIAL JADE could prove hot to handle if taking to fences.

Cockalorum has won over this trip six times off higher marks and although a poor sixth at Ripon last month, he warrants consideration. Free Speech won twice last season and may do better after her Chelmsford sixth, but a chance is taken on Harry Charlton's MIGHTY QUIET. She pulled off a 25/1 shock at Bath when winning easily on her last start as a three-year-old and a new mark of 71 may still underestimate her ability.

From an in-form yard, MIGHTY QUIET stands out in terms of potential following the revelatory win last October in her first handicap.

DELACROIX was a smart juvenile, winning a Group 3 at Newmarket before he was narrowly denied in the Group 1 Futurity Trophy at Doncaster. The Dubawi colt made an impressive reappearance in the Ballysax over C&D, beating Lambourn, and that form received a timely boost at Chester during the week. Tennessee Stud looks the chief threat having filled the runner-up spot behind Hotazhell in the Group 2 Beresford Stakes at the Curragh before going one better in the Group 1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud over this trip. Purview takes a big step up in class after justifying favouritism on his debut over a mile at Dundalk back in November.

The Ballysax winner DELACROIX can enhance his Derby claims, given a collateral boost this week at Chester by stablemate Lambourn

PIED PIPER ended a long losing spell last month and retains nice ability. Runner-up in an English Cesarewitch and placed in two County Hurdles, the selection has also been placed twice at Grade 1 level over hurdles and scored easily on chase debut. He steps up to this distance for the first time but has proven stamina for Flat racing, so should be fine. Will The Wise was never in contention racing over an inadequate distance on his recent chase debut but will be better suited by this distance. Just Three looks booked for third.

AUNTIE MAGGIE justified favouritism in ready fashion at Fakenham and a 9lb rise may underestimate the authority she showed that day. CRISTO has to carry a 6lb penalty for his recent Chelmsford victory, but he powered home that day and was comfortably on top at the line. Joe Leavy claims 3lb back from the saddle, and he could land a hat-trick. Gunship ran on late into third at Sandown and may hit the places again here, while One Eye Jack looks interesting in first-time cheekpieces for a stable in among the winners this week.

There may still be even better to come from course winner and Irish Derby entry GUNSHIP, who earns the vote.

Dermot Weld, who has his string in good form, can add another success courtesy of ETAWA. An Irish Oaks entrant, the daughter of Kingman made a very pleasing racecourse debut when keeping on nicely to finish third over C&D last month. Having run green once coming off the bridle, she should know a lot more about what is required. Butterfly Wings, who finished a place behind the selection in that race, should again be involved. Aidan O'Brien's Justify filly sets the standard with an official rating of 83 but, having already had three career runs, she may not be open to as much improvement. Dundalk second Lady McC also holds claims.

Given her lack of experience, ETAWA did well to finish in front of Butterfly Wings here a month ago. She should uphold that form

HECOULDBETHEONE may be appropriately named with two C&D wins, the latest in April off 1lb lower. The track certainly plays to his front-running style and if he can slip this field early, he could come home alone. Broderick is a model of consistency with five top three finishes in a row including a win at Newcastle, and he can mount a challenge, leaving Flimsy Nosebag as the pick for third.

The suggestion is HECOULDBETHEONE, a C&D winner last month who contested a deeper race last time at Warwick.

This looks a good opportunity for BIRDIE OR BUST to record a first win over fences. A Listed winner who also finished third in the Grade 2 Mares' Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham, she should have a class edge over this opposition. Although yet to reach the frame in three runs over the larger obstacles, these smaller fences around Killarney will make her task that bit easier. It will be disappointing for connections if she can't avail of this opening. Three times a winner over flights, the Gavin Cromwell-trained Me Wee Bonnie Lass has to be of interest on her chasing debut. Out For A Stroll is another to consider, especially in receipt of weight from her elders.

This might be a good opportunity for smart hurdler BIRDIE OR BUST to finally make her mark over fences.

A progressive handicapper last season, CLOUD SEEKER can register his first success of the new campaign. The Andrew Slattery-trained gelding took a few runs before getting his head in front last term, so should be all the better for a recent reappearance at Tipperary. Dropped 1lb for that outing, the four-year-old could be capable of further improvement. A course winner who is adaptable in terms of trip, he will almost certainly be ridden prominently over this 10 furlongs. A dual winner over this sort of distance last year, Masoun is another who should come on from a recent run and Joseph O'Brien's son of Too Darn Hot will appreciate stepping back up in distance. Navan maiden winner Sidiza also merits consideration.

The dark horse is SIDIZA who all things considered did well to win her maiden at Navan and the mark may underestimate her.

A step up in trip enabled a career-best performance from SMUGGLERS HAVEN when regaining the winning thread over hurdles at Chepstow last month. The daughter of Elusive Pimpernel was a winner on her sole point-to-point outing and looks just the type to excel over fences. Sea Invasion also enjoyed the emphasis on stamina when landing the spoils over C&D 20 days ago and the seven-year-old is feared most, ahead of Black Gerry.

The mare SMUGGLERS HAVEN is another success story for the Bradstock yard and she's potentially the best handicapped of these.

Having run his best race over fences to date when fourth in the Ulster National, BRAZIL could be ready to exploit a lenient chase mark. A three-time winner over hurdles, including at the 2022 Cheltenham Festival, the gelding can race off 17lb lower in this discipline. Although slow to show the same aptitude for fences that he did hurdles, the Padraig Roche-trained seven-year-old has gradually been finding his feet and a reproduction of that latest effort at Downpatrick would make him a leading contender. Top-weight Panda Boy is nicely handicapped once taking the 5lb claim of John Shinnick into account. Paggane has to be given serious consideration given that she is the sole Willie Mullins representative in the race.

BRAZIL travelled well for a long way in the Ulster National last time, Walsh keeps the faith and he is taken to get his first chase win

Casting Aspersions took a significant step forward from his first start for the Fergal O'Brien yard to strike by a neck at Huntingdon and holds an obvious chance, despite a 3lb higher mark. However, LUNA RUN made every yard for a facile success at Taunton and the assessor may have been kind to only put her up 5lb. The six-year-old retains the cheekpieces that were applied for the first time in that romp and looks the one to beat. Galway Reel is another to keep an eye on.

Having stayed on well to win over an extended 2m4f on his second run for Fergal O'Brien, CASTING ASPERSIONS is taken to follow up.

Shwaimah proved underwhelming on her return when eighth at Southwell 35 days ago and it may pay to concentrate on the two last-time-out winners. Orange Sky supplemented a promising second-placed debut at Newbury when justifying favouritism over C&D last year and George Boughey's filly isn't taken lightly on her seasonal bow. However, the form of LORNA B's triumph over 6f here in March has worked out well and, stepping up in trip, the daughter of Shaman edges the call.

Shwaimah performed moderately on her second start, so the initiative may lie with the penalised winners Orange Sky and LORNA B.

MISTER ADAM could be well treated off a mark of 83. An eyecatching fourth on his debut at the Curragh in November, the son of Too Darn Hot arguably didn't handle the surface when unable to build on that effort at Dundalk next time. However, there was plenty to like about his recent reappearance when a staying-on third back at the Curragh. With the runner-up, who is rated 88, having franked that form subsequently, the Gerard O'Leary-trained top-weight has to be of definite interest. Navan second Palmezzano has strong claims of going one better and Joseph O'Brien's gelded son of Saxon Warrior wouldn't have to improve much to win. Dundalk scorer Drucker shouldn't be ruled out back on turf.

Henry De Bromhead's NUIT showed enough in maidens to believe she'll have a future in handicaps, especially over this longer trip.

A drop in distance worked against ARFURSGAL when finishing a well-beaten third at Fontwell in March. However, Anthony Honeyball's filly had previously posted a good second on her debut over an extended 2m at Newbury and could be worth chancing now faced with a stiffer test of stamina. It will be interesting to see how Queen's Theatre fares in the betting after an opening third at Stratford in October last year, while I'm A Believer is an interesting newcomer.

Anthony Honeyball may hold the key to this and one line of form gives ARFURSGAL the beating of stablemate Queen's Theatre.

GALILEO SAND should take the beating in this finale. Third on his racecourse debut at Thurles in March, the Joseph O'Brien-trained gelding showed up well when fourth in a competitive affair at the recent Punchestown Festival. With the benefit of those previous outings, he sets a fair standard in a race of this nature. John Gleeson, who has been riding exceptionally well of late, is a notable jockey booking. Newcomer Midnight Jet deserves close consideration. Trainer Sam Curling loves to line one up for this particular meeting and Derek O'Connor is a significant choice of rider. Power Of Words, who finished fourth over hurdles on debut, is interesting switched to a bumper by his leading trainer.

CLAUDE makes plenty of appeal on paper with Patrick Mullins booked (5-14 for the yard). He is narrowly preferred over his stablemate.

THUNDER ROAR looked set to record a fifth career victory but for being demoted and placed second in the Spring Mile at Doncaster in March. That marked a return to form for the six-year-old and a 4lb rise may not be enough to prevent him from securing some compensation. Benacre made all over C&D last time and a similar approach should see Charlie Johnston's charge involved once more. United Approach, Skukuza and Local Hero add further spice to the mix.

Harry Charlton is in flying form and GRAND KARAT (nap) earns the vote on account of his two impressive wins at Southwell last term.

OOLONG POOBONG was last seen finishing a narrow second in a warm Doncaster nursery in September and a 4lb rise for that effort looks fair. She'll have no problem returning to the all-weather, being a course winner already, and with the likelihood of more to come this season, she could be underestimated by her current rating. Andalprofit bolted up over 6f here last month and although 12lb higher now, he merits respect. Others to note include Knights Gold and Cairdeas.

A high draw ought to be of benefit to WILLEM TWEE, who was far from disgraced in first-time cheekpieces (retained) over C&D last month. James Fanshawe's gelding is now 3lb lower than when winning at Wolverhampton in August and with the likelihood of a decent pace to aim at, he can go close. Ferrous must enter calculations as he goes in search of a hat-trick following victories at Lingfield and Southwell, as must Strike Red. Sergeant Wilko should not be overlooked despite a low-key return at Leicester last month.

The new track is a question for FERROUS but the stiff test should suit and he gets the vote ahead of Germanic.

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.

There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.

The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.

Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.

In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses.
