Richard Hannon won this with a newcomer last season and his Persian Spring, who has the benefit of a run, must be of interest. Kevin Ryan saddles two, of which 350,000gns purchase Sir Sirius might be the pick, but preference is for ROCK STEADY BEAT. Karl Burke's youngsters arguably haven't started as quickly as they usually do so far this term, but the Minzaal colt is a half-brother to the smart Happy Romance and looks worth chancing. Clash Of Hearts merits close inspection, and don't rule out The Ginger Kid either.

Before any betting clues are known ROCK STEADY BEAT is preferred to Kevin Ryan pair Sir Sirius and Statten Island.

Kibris has bits and pieces of form over hurdles that give him leading claims, a runner-up effort at Cork in mid-October being the highlight. However, he does have something to prove on his first appearance for Stuart Crawford and preference is for the lightly-raced LEXINGTON WOOD. Olly Murphy's charge was thrown in at the deep end on his hurdling bow when eighth in the Dovecote and should have learned plenty from that experience. Way Maker is a feasible alternative.

This is significantly easier than the Grade 2 LEXINGTON WOOD tackled on his hurdle debut and he's preferred to Way Maker.

MUMAYAZ only needed pushing out to score in comfortable fashion at Leicester last Saturday, which augurs well for him in a race of this nature. Tony Carroll's gelding is 3lb well-in under a penalty and he should take all the beating, especially given the likely strong pace. Safari Dream won here 12 months ago and is respected, and it would come as no great surprise were top-weight Arabian Cobra to leave an underwhelming seasonal reappearance behind him.

The return to this track could suit Safari Dream but MUMAYAZ (nap) won well at Leicester five days ago and looks the one to beat.

Only a tentative vote can go to STURLASSON given the competitive nature of this sprint, in which many will fancy their chances. The son of Invincible Army has found real progress since joining John Ryan, including a creditable second at Bath latest. The likely strong pace will suit and with Oisin Murphy back in the saddle, he might be the value. Corolla Point finished third to Air Force One at Beverley but is now 2lb better off, while popular veteran Copper Knight bids to record a remarkable eighth success on the Knavesmire and his third victory in this race. Hammer The Hammer, Brazen Bolt and Bergerac complete an extensive shortlist.

The drop back to 5f could be ideal for topweight HAMMER THE HAMMER and he is taken to make a winning reappearance.

Having stayed on stoutly to score over C&D, Inis Oirr merits respect in his follow-up bid. That said, consistency isn't the nine-year-old's forte, with LARGY FORCE rating as the one to beat. Olly Murphy's mare found only a subsequent winner too strong at Uttoxeter and she looks to have more to come over 3m. Busty Boy is likely to run his race and is the pick of the remainder.

This looks a good opportunity for LARGY FORCE (nap) to land a third win since joining Olly Murphy.

It can often be worth following Clive Cox at this venue and it is ORTHODOX who gets the nod. American Psycho is another who makes considerable appeal on paper and although Mobadir might want a bit further in time, he still merits respect given his connections.

A tentative vote in a field of newcomers goes to ORTHODOX but the betting should provide a big piece of the puzzle.

SEE THE FIRE only won by a neck on her reappearance at Nottingham, but it would be no surprise to see her take a big step forward on her return to the Knavesmire. A 12-length winner of this contest last year, the five-year-old was not disgraced when fourth in the Juddmonte International over C&D in August. On that evidence, Andrew Balding's mare could take some stopping. Fallen Angel would be a threat if transferring her best mile form to this distance and she wasn't beaten far on her only previous start over 1m2f. All of the remainder have claims, but Diamond Rain is the pick of them.

It's possible last year's winner SEE THE FIRE will have a fitness edge over reappearing pair Fallen Angel and Dancing Rain.

Olly Murphy holds a strong hand with last-time-out winners Atlantic City and KADO SACREE, and the latter makes most appeal. The six-year-old got off the mark over timber when justifying favouritism on his handicap debut at Carlisle and a 3lb higher mark shouldn't halt his progress. Lets Mingle still held every chance when unseating her rider at the final hurdle over C&D and cannot be ruled out, for all that a 4lb rise in the ratings demands more.

Continuing a common theme, Olly Murphy holds the key with both Atlantic City and KADO SACREE bidding to make it 2-2 in handicaps.

WAREETH was a 14-length winner on his debut at Newcastle in March and he was then not disgraced, given his lack of experience, when sixth in the Feilden at Newmarket. A reproduction of either of those efforts would make Archie Watson's colt hard to beat in this company. Ancestor cost 200,000gns as a yearling and any market support for him would have to be noted, while Pacific Storm also made six figures and is another to keep an eye on.

200,000gns yearling Ancestor is interesting on his debut but Archie Watson's WAREETH sets a good standard and is the choice.

Christmas Day showed a good attitude when winning the Ballysax at Leopardstown and has to be respected on the back of that performance. However, marginal preference is for MORSHDI, who looked an exciting prospect when taking the Feilden at Newmarket. With the prospect of more improvement likely, the son of Dubawi just gets the vote. Wise Prince was keen when third in the Classic Trial, a place behind Al Zanati, and could make his presence felt if settling better. Action, a disappointing fourth at Sandown, and the unbeaten Item are others to consider.

The O'Brien first string is CHRISTMAS DAY, whose Ballysax win earns him narrow preference over Morshdi and Item.

Flying Childers winner Revival Power wasn't disgraced shouldering a penalty in the Cornwallis last season and must enter the reckoning. That said, Tim Easterby's filly does lack a recent run, which could sway things into ASPECT ISLAND's favour. The Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint third, who was a head of Revival Power when occupying the same position at Newmarket previously, shaped with encouragement on his seventh-placed seasonal bow in the Abernant and that should have blown away any cobwebs. Debut Doncaster scorer Manatee Mehmas is also of interest.

Tempting to side with C&D and Group 2 winner REVIVAL POWER (nap), who is treading a similar path to her Nunthorpe-winning sister.

After a spin in a charity race at Punchestown, LIGHTKEEPER ought to be ready for his seasonal reappearance. The last time he competed over hurdles, he was runner-up in a claimer over a similar trip at Bellewstown last summer. Since then, he won over fences at Perth on his penultimate start. This is Circus Act's trip and ground and she is a solid contender, while Jerandme could go well on his return to action. Solly Attwell would probably prefer more of a test of stamina, but can get involved. Rocky's Howya enjoys this grade, but his recent winning form is on slower ground.

The suggestion is LIGHTKEEPER who is rated 128 over fences but was second in this grade at Bellewstown last year when last over hurdles

Springhill Warrior, who sets the standard with a mark of 118, filled the runner-up berth at Punchestown and Fairyhouse last season. On the forecast going, he may improve with a tongue-tie/cheekpieces combination tried. Nevertheless, MINELLA DIAMOND might be worth chancing. Although he has something to find on official ratings, the low-mileage eight-year-old has shown ability on better ground, including when winning a bumper at Killarney. Additionally, he has two runner-up finishes over hurdles to advertise his chance. Tolka Row is respected after being placed in two point-to-points.

Runner-up on all three hurdle starts in testing ground, SPRINGHILL WARRIOR should take this once handling the faster surface.

SEA TEMPEST displayed plenty of promise when beaten just a length into third on his racecourse bow at Southwell in February. With the benefit of that experience, Tom Lacey's gelding could prove hard to beat here. Hold The Throw was second on his only start between the flags and has to be noted on his Rules debut, while Killygowan and Saint Cunning complete the shortlist.

The vote goes to SEA TEMPEST on the back of a promising debut, with Hold The Throw a likely threat if the betting vibes are strong.

Gordon Elliott does well with his recruits from Britain and ITAINTMEBABE should be monitored very closely in the market. He won over a similar trip at Fakenham in October and could be on a decent mark for his Irish debut with James Smith's 5lb claim factored in. Sarah's Express kept on for fourth at both Clonmel and Kilbeggan recently, but could finish higher in this company, while Kilbarry Ce Ce wasn't beaten far when fourth over a shorter trip at Tramore and has her chance under a capable claimer. The Sugarhill Lady is another pitching for prize money, while first reserve Carlas Big Jim wouldn't be out of it if getting a run.

Very open, a tentative selection going to SARAH'S EXPRESS following an encouraging comeback run

Last-time-out winners Oakley and Motazzen are heading in the right direction and are likely to prove popular given their current heart. However, they will need to produce a career-best performance to follow up and it could be worth chancing the lightly-raced BEL OMBRE. This is only the six-year-old's third outing in handicap company and he wasn't disgraced when second to a progressive novice at Perth last month.

There is more to come from newly hooded 6yo BEL OMBRE, who won with an indeterminate amount left in the tank on his handicap debut.

LOI DES JEUX is less exposed than some of these. He ran well on his second handicap outing at Limerick when third to Cooltubrid Eva, just fading a touch late on in testing conditions having led before the second-last. There may be a bit more to come now on better ground. Tedworth was a winner on his return at Tramore last month and has to be respected. A 6lb rise for that victory doesn't look harsh. Old Kenmare ran well for a long way here last time and is another who has to come into the mix in a moderate enough contest.

As wide open as the first division, a chance taken on LOIS DES JEUX improving on this better ground

Although Ballyfinn gained a first career victory over 3m2f here recently, this marked drop back in distance is an obvious concern. The eight-year-old could prove vulnerable under a 7lb penalty, with MISTERODDSOCKS fancied to take advantage. Ben Case's charge looked a different proposition when scoring over C&D last month and a 5lb higher mark seems workable. Exeter third Thickthorn Tom is a feasible alternative.

Ballyfinn and MISTERODDSOCKS (nap) won at this track last time out and the latter gets the nod having done it over this trip.

NED IN THE PARK came good in fine style at this venue and can bag a follow-up win. The Walk In The Park gelding had been a touch frustrating having shown some good form early on, and a 5lb rise for his cosy victory doesn't look harsh. Le Diablo was a big price when winning at the same meeting here last month and is another to consider, although he got a 9lb hike and it makes life a bit tougher. With most of these having questions to answer, it is hard to oppose JAGER TIME. The seven-year-old put two close seconds behind him when getting off the mark over 3m1f at Huntingdon in November. The lack of a recent run and a 6lb rise are slight concerns, but Fergal O'Brien's gelding remains the one to beat. Hurst Hill edges out Nelson Gate to be best of the rest.

Having run better than the bare form suggests last month, after a long layoff, the veteran COUNTERACT might be worth chancing.

NIRISQUE can get off the mark on her third outing for Henry de Bromhead. The French import was a touch disappointing on her first start for the yard, but ran a solid race last time when chasing home Crohan Lady at Tramore. Her mark of 107 sets the standard. The handicapper has Jumbos Jet on 98 after three runs over timber, but she looks a danger after a good effort to chase home Catchabird at Wexford. The 97-rated Chautuaqua unseated at the first in the Tramore race in which the selection was runner-up. She can be given a chance on the pick of her previous form.

Providing she handles these quicker conditions then NIRISQUE can go one better than at Tramore recently

CHANCEAWETMORNING can make it two from two since joining Gordon Elliott. An impressive winner at Kilbeggan last month, the gelding was subsequently raised 9lb. However, with Josh Williamson taking a valuable 5lb off, he still looks nicely treated. With a number of confirmed pacesetters in the field, the six-year-old can sit in and get a nice tow into the race before being produced late. Well backed when second on his recent handicap debut, Sense Of Occasion is sure to make a bold bid to recover those losses. C&D winners Expound and Tingarran Express also warrant respect in a competitive affair for the grade.

With Josh Williamson taking off 5lb CHANCEOFAWETMORNING (nap) can add to the win gained when favourite at Kilbeggan on stable debut

In a race where those who have previously run failed to shine, a chance is taken on the Henry de Bromhead-trained newcomer LIRAKALI. A son of Voiladenuo out of a French hurdles winner, the five-year-old wouldn't need to be anything out of the ordinary to make a winning debut. His stable struck with a similar type at the Punchestown Festival and any market support here should be noted. A promising fourth on his introduction at Fairyhouse last November, Martymill failed to build on that effort back at the same track. A reproduction of his earlier form would see the son of Getaway hold claims. It's All Clear has enough previous experience to also get involved.

Not much substance to the form here, and it will be no surprise if Henry de Bromhead's LIRAKALI proves equal to the task on his debut.
