This looks to rest between the two Flat winners, Dark Note and Shajak. The former won a Ballinrobe claimer for Joseph O'Brien last summer and was runner-up in a Bellewstown handicap off 72 for present connections. Gradually progressive in four starts over hurdles, his Wexford second was a decent effort, with the winner having shown up well in a couple of strong winter maidens. SHAJAK, though, is rated the best part of 20lb better on the level and was a useful middle-distance performer for Johnny Murtagh last term. He beat smart hurdler My Mate Mozzie in a Tipperary maiden and was third in a Listed race at Leopardstown. Fifth on hurdles debut at Killarney, Jack Kennedy's mount should have learned enough from that to score here. Say It So, not beaten that far on hurdling debut at Roscommon, has a chance of minor honours.

There's seemingly little depth to this maiden and it would appear to represent an ideal opportunity for useful Flat performer SHAJAK to build on his quite encouraging opening hurdle run at Killarney in May. Dark Note is the obvious one to follow him home. Newcomer Suile Ban has quite a good pedigree and is one to monitor in the betting.

A major eyecatcher on his debut at Windsor when meeting trouble before finishing fast for second, INSANITY can gain compensation in the hands of William Buick. A taking winner on his introduction at Newcastle last October, Intinso disappointed in the Feilden Stakes at Newmarket on his return and this will be far easier. Lady Boba and Real Gain are expected to be thereabouts as well.

The fact that INTINSO went off at only 5/1 in a Newmarket listed race on his second outing would suggest that the Gosden stable thinks quite a bit of him and he can take his record to 2-3 with his sights lowered. The William Buick-ridden Insanity made a pleasing start to his career when runner-up at Windsor last month and is second choice ahead of Real Gain, who had some useful sorts in behind when winning on his Kempton debut last autumn.

A hot novice event. Real Gain and Intinso have to give weight to INSANITY and Lady Boba.

Pileup has adapted well to racing in a visor and, having placed over C&D in his last two starts, the six-year-old has leading claims off just 1lb higher than his latest near-miss. Black Lightning was only a length and three quarters back in third that day and also enters calculations off the same mark. However, MINELLA YOUNGY has more scope over this trip and, given he was placed in a deeper looking race last time, he shades preference today.

With a visor applied, PILEUP has returned to form with placed efforts at this C&D on his last 2 starts, so he could be ready to open his account having only just failed here 16 days ago. Minella Youngy has finished runner-up on his last 2 outings and could be the main danger, while Black Lightning can also give another good account.

After returning from a layoff with pleasing effort last month, NASTASIYA might have untapped potential over today's longer trip.

Narrowly denied over C&D last time out, ONE LAST HUG can gain compensation and notch up a third Ayr victory already this season. Jim Goldie's eight-year-old remains on a fair mark and can see off the well-handicapped Ben Macdui and Soul Seeker, who has been knocking on the door of late. Showalong may have disappointed over track and trip on his latest run, but he is a player based on the pick of his form.

SHOWALONG was better than the result here last time and has a bit of class for this level having largely plied his trade in higher grades. Soul Seeker is another very capable in 0-70 company and is second choice ahead of Ben Macdui.

Ayr specialist One Last Hug is a tempting option but preference is for BEN MACDUI who was a promising fourth at Newcastle recently.

BUKHILL may be able to provide his young rider with a first winner. The half-brother to useful hurdler Mount Windsor was a beaten favourite in two bumper starts for Willie Mullins but ran to a fair level in the context of this race, and there was plenty of encouragement to be derived from his hurdling debut fourth at Punchestown on his first start for Peter Fahey. The Mass Path, fitted with headgear and dropping back in trip, has run reasonably well in a trio of stronger maidens. His mark of 102 makes him one of the main contenders. Mac's Xpress is rated just 2lb lower and was running a decent race when coming down at the last in a Tipperary handicap. He disappointed a few days later at Punchestown but has a chance in a maiden of this standard. The selection's stablemate Artemis Angel was a beaten favourite at this track last time but has place claims on overall form and is now tried in cheekpieces.

BUKHILL made a sound start to his hurdle career for new trainer Peter Fahey at Punchestown last month and looks the way to go here with improvement on the cards. Jessica Harrington's Mac's Xpress has been given a short break since a lesser run in May and can bounce back and provide the chief threat ahead of the selection's stablemate Artemis Angel.

Preference is for the Peter Fahey-trained BUKHILL who ran well for this rider at Punchestown last time and can come on for that

EASTERN CHARM could not have won any easier at Yarmouth last time out and returning to handicap company should not inconvenience her as she attempts to follow up. William Haggas' filly should have too much for White Mist and Coloane, who has been running with credit of late without getting her head in front. Don't What Me Boy is not to be underestimated either.

EASTERN CHARM had plenty in hand when doubling her tally at Yarmouth last time and, with further progress on the cards, she's an obvious choice to go in again. Coloane shaped better than the bare result at Nottingham, so strikes as the main danger ahead of White Mist.

It is rather by default but EASTERN CHARM is selected to win for the third time from four outings this season.

Expectations could be high for previous point-to-point winner ROSE IN THE PARK after she made all to win a bumper at Bangor on her Rules debut last month. The natural ability she showed as that race unfolded underpinned her trainer's post-race assertion that 'she could be a bit special' and a bold effort may be forthcoming on her hurdling bow. The consistent Ma Belle Noire is feared most, with Moon Lady and Noonie others to consider.

There was plenty to like about ROSE IN THE PARK's successful bumper debut at Bangor and Shark Hanlon's mare is fancied to take her record under Rules to 2-2 now hurdling. Ma Belle Noire sets a clear standard of those with hurdles experience and should ensure the selection doesn't have it all her own way. You Say Its Over is a modest pick for third.

Shark Hanlon was highly complimentary about ROSE IN THE PARK after she made all at Bangor and this looks very winnable.

Either side of being beaten a neck into second here and at Goodwood, Sennockian was an honest third in a warm contest at the latter venue. He should be bang there again but a chance is taken on DINGWALL, who was only fourth on his debut here but the winner almost landed the Coventry, with the runner-up going one better next time. Vantheman surpassed market expectations on his Haydock introduction, while Master Franca should be on the premises too.

VANTHEMAN shaped with encouragement at Haydock first time out and he can find enough improvement to get the better of Sennockian, who sets the standard. Master Franca is another to consider.

A chance is taken on DINGWALL, an 85,000gns yearling whose debut fourth of six over C&D came in a race that has worked out very well.

WE GOT THIS recorded a 100/1 shock on debut in a mares maiden hurdle at Navan in March and the form looks quite solid with the first four pulling clear. The runner-up Broomfield Bijou has won both outings since including a handicap at the Punchestown Festival off a mark of 118 so this initial rating seems fair with the prospect of further improvement to come. The locally-trained Red Ball Of Fire won twice over C&D in 2021 and made a promising return when finishing strongly here on the Flat in May. She was fitted with blinkers for the first time when runner-up at Listowel last time and the booking of Michael O'Sullivan is significant. Nodoubtaboutthat has been lightly raced since winning at the Galway Festival in 2021 and gave some encouragement in two outings last month. Purse Price and Angelsworknovrtime have both been frustrating to follow.

Plenty in with a squeak but NODOUBTABOUTTHAT confirmed the promise of her reappearance when third at Downpatrick 3 weeks ago and having eased a shade further in the weights, Shane Crawley's 8-y-o gets the nod to notch career victory number 3. Eve Moneypenny caused a 50/1 shock when making a successful start to life under Rules at Punchestown recently, so she's put forward as the main danger, ahead of Red Ball of Fire and We Got This.

Preference is for RED BALL OF FIRE(nap) who always runs well here and comes here on the back of a good second at Listowel last month

A return to this C&D can work a treat for OWL ISLAND, who struck here on debut in May, and he can maintain his unbeaten record on the all-weather. The Crisfords' three-year-old may have too much for fellow course scorer War In Heaven, as well as Secret Moment, who got up over 6f at Wolverhampton. His stablemate Open Mind is another who will appreciate going back up in trip.

Cases can be made for several, but SECRET MOMENT resumed winning ways to prove himself as good as ever on return at Wolverhampton recently and nudged up just 3 lb, Saeed bin Suroor's 6-y-o is fancied to follow up returned to this longer trip. War In Heaven notched a fifth success of the campaign over 1m here recently and he could be the one to give the selection most to think about, ahead of Toimy Son and Chola Empire.

Fast ground looked a serious issue for OWL ISLAND last time and he can show his true colours now back on the AW.

Sisterandbrother is capable in this discipline and makes the shortlist along with Simply Red, who should go well if she is raring to go on her first start since last October. However, this can go to last-time-out Southwell winner ALLBETSOFF, who looks the most upwardly mobile and a 4lb higher mark might not stop him going in again. Pateen has won on this card the last two years off slightly higher marks and also enters calculations, with Saturday Song another to consider.

ALLBETSOFF arrives on the back of a career-best success at Southwell and with that form working out well he is fancied to follow up. In-form Saturday Song and Sisterandbrother appeal as the pair to give Mark Walford's 7-y-o most to do and can chase him home in that order.

Alan King's SATURDAY SONG was denied his breakthrough win right on the line at Huntingdon and he can make amends.

Jim Goldie has his string in good order and a bold bid from Banner Road is expected following a fine effort in defeat at Musselburgh, while Far From A Ruby has winning C&D form in the book from last year and is the joint-highest rated in the field along with OUR DICKIE. Iain Jardine's gelding boasts arguably the best form this year, with a victory and a close second at Hamilton to his name, and he receives a tentative vote in a tricky contest for punters to solve. Irish raider Reverberation and Navy Wren are also worth a second look.

OUR DICKIE ran well in this grade when second at Hamilton on his penultimate outing, so he could be worth forgiving his latest run at Newcastle where he helped to set a sound gallop. The 4-y-o is taken to gain a second success for this current yard, though Far From A Ruby could bounce back to form returned to this course. Reverberation completes the shortlist.

C&D winner FAR FROM A RUBY has a good record at Ayr and earns the vote now back here after two lacklustre performances at Musselburgh.

WARM IN GOREY has been in good form this year and opened his account in a lady riders handicap at Punchestown last time. A 5lb rise for that success seems fair enough and the Philip Rothwell-trained gelding appears quite versatile ground wise. Staging Post won a bumper here and, having won a Wexford maiden hurdle, has dropped down to a competitive mark. He filled the runner-up spot in a similar event here last month and is a threat with Michael O'Sullivan taking the ride. The Big Chap has progressed well over the past 14 months scoring twice but ran too bad to be true at Roscommon last month, while Bigz Belief won a claiming hurdle at this venue last month but has since disappointed on the Flat at Limerick.

WARM IN GOREY upped his game to run out a cosy winner at Punchestown last time and he's worth a chance to follow up at the possible expense of Staging Post, who arrives on the back of a good second. Pont Audemer is another one to consider.

White Moonlight beat Heredia in a similar event at Musselburgh but a 3lb swing in the weights could see the latter reverse that form. However, marginal preference is for POTAPOVA, who has not been at her very best so far this season but she wasn't disgraced in the Duke Of Cambridge at Royal Ascot and a repeat of that level of form would give her a big chance. Others to consider are Queen Aminatu and Internationalangel.

QUEEN AMINATU was mid-field in the Duke of Cambridge at Royal Ascot last time but essentially has a more solid profile on artificial surfaces and she's fancied to land a third listed success. Heredia is undoubtedly capable of winning a race at this level and shaped as if in good form at Musselburgh, whilst Potapova remains tricky to discount in this grade given last season's Group 3-winning form.

Several possibles but QUEEN AMINATU has an excellent record on AW and she can gain her third Listed success.

Rocambolas gained a second success of the season when winning with something to spare at Southwell on Monday and a 7lb penalty is unlikely to prevent another bold bid. Preference, however, is for HONNEUR DE SIVOLA. The Clare Hobson-trained six-year-old posted another solid effort in defeat when runner-up over C&D in June and he may be able to shrug off a 5lb rise in the ratings. We'll Go Again is still unexposed as a chaser and also enters calculations off a tumbling mark.

HONNEUR DE SIVOLA has taken well to fences and looks to have been found a good opportunity to get off the mark on the back of his good C&D second. Mutual Respect is weighted to have a big say in his bid to gain a belated first success while chasing debutant Heros de Moutiers needs considering too.

He carries a 7lb penalty for his Southwell win on Monday but ROCAMBOLAS (nap) was given a pretty confident ride before asserting there.

OLD SMOKE was not at his very best at Musselburgh last time but he was only beaten two lengths in a very good renewal of the London Gold Cup prior to that. The application of first-time cheekpieces could help Richard Fahey's three-year-old bounce back to that level of form here and he will be tough to beat if doing so. Unexposed hat-trick seeker Chriszoff is an obvious threat to the selection, while Dubai Souq is the pick of the remainder.

Unexposed 3-y-o CHRISZOFF can complete the hat-trick on his handicap bow. Dubai Souq made a satisfactory comeback at Windsor after 11 months off and is entitled to be sharper here, while Venetian and Old Smoke are also players if shrugging off their latest efforts.

3yos have won the last five runnings and OLD SMOKE, whose sixth in the London Gold Cup reads extremely well, is taken to score.

MACS LADY was worryingly pulled up recently but had previously run well in a useful May handicap. Other than her Limerick run, her profile is poor but the winner of that race was well handicapped, the third and sixth won subsequently, while the fourth, fifth and seventh were each placed next time out. Corkbeg himself disappointed in that Limerick race but won previously and is suited by this distance. Leish Oscars Son was an April point-to-point winner and has place claims, while Bidentime is a 14-race maiden but suffered some interference at the start at Punchestown recently and wasn't beaten too far. In-form Natural Breeze has won just once from 19 runs.

This race lacks depth and BIDENTIME made a positive start for his new yard when fourth at Punchestown, so he gets the nod over Natural Breeze, who arrives on the back of a solid effort at Downpatrick. Attitash is another one to consider.

Having run a creditable race on return at Downpatrick last time, NATURAL BREEZE should have improved enough to score.

CAPTAIN WENTWORTH only found one too good over course and distance a month ago and the John Butler-trained colt is arguably the one to beat based on that evidence, despite a 2lb rise in the ratings. One Hart also hit the crossbar on his most recent outing and he edges out Ben Hamrash and My Mate Mike to be the pick of the remaining field.

MONAADHIL is very interesting back at Chelmsford and is chanced. Captain Wentworth and Ben Hamrash head up a strong 3-y-o challenge.

Captain Wentworth is respected but Ed Walker's team are flying along at present and BEN HAMRASH is taken to get off the mark.

Shetland Bus wasn't disgraced when second to a last-time-out winner at Southwell on Monday and the veteran could emerge as the chief threat with Brian Hughes now booked to ride. Hidden Commander is only 1lb higher than his last winning mark and is another to consider.

COURTLAND has revived in recent months and looks up to completing the hat-trick. Hidden Commander is feared most.

Peter Bowen's COURTLAND has shot back up the weights but he remains feasibly treated on old form and can bring up the hat-trick.

SPARKS FLY is one of the most progressive handicappers in training at present, starting her turf career off a mark of 59 at Windsor in April and she now competes off 93 after five wins on the bounce. She didn't look to be nearing the ceiling of her ability at Chester last time and must be stuck with. Young Fire and Gincident have both won three times already in 2023, while Power Of Gold got off the mark at Doncaster. Shahbaz is just one other to consider.

SPARKS FLY has proved a revelation since being switched to the turf and, having readily seen off a well-backed handicap debutante from a top yard at Chester 9 days ago, David Loughnane's 3-y-o gets the nod to bring up a remarkable 6-timer. Young Fire got back to winning ways at Haydock recently and may emerge as the main threat remaining with handicapping scope judged on last year's form. Irish-raider Royal Pippen and Power of Gold can fight out third spot.

The prolific filly SPARKS FLY (nap) is taken to make it six wins in a row, having again had something to spare when scoring at Chester.

IRIDESCENT won a handicap on his fencing debut last month and reverts to hurdles. He has won just twice from 21 hurdle runs but relishes staying distances, competes over his longest trip to date here, and his timber rating is now 8lb below his chase mark. Mister Twist has been running well in handicaps and while 4lb higher than on his last handicap appearance, won a recent maiden hurdle and likes staying distances. Six-time winner Gotthenod is suited by good ground and staying distances but while she was a recent Wexford winner, has yet to win or be placed from today's revised rating. Another recent winner Ballyglass Beauty also stays well but competes from a career-high rating, while Goodnightngodbless hasn't run over hurdles since August 2021. Spring Street was beaten 75 lengths on his latest run but had previously run well in April and steps up in trip in a first-time tongue-tie.

GOODNIGHTNGODBLESS has been in good nick over fences and switches to hurdles on a tempting mark so edges the vote in a highly competitive handicap. Dinoland also figures on a handy-looking weight and rates a big threat, with Menindee another who can have a say back in this sphere.

This is competitive but IRIDESCENT is on a steep upward curve, with chase and hurdle wins on last two starts, so can score again.

AZURE ANGEL shaped as if she could improve for her return when weakening into fourth at Windsor in May and Roger Varian's filly is fancied to regain the winning thread on this switch to Polytrack. Dual C&D winner Shades Of Summer is only 1lb higher than for her April success at this venue and enters calculations, while Premiere Beauty finished an encouraging third on her reappearance at Haydock and should have more to offer.

Roger Varian's AZURE ANGEL made an encouraging return from an absence when fourth at Windsor and this low-mileage filly can resume winning ways at the chief expense of Kempton second Holy Fire. Ormolulu and Cuban Breeze need factoring in too.

Holy Fire has more to come but AZURE ANGEL caught the eye on slow ground on her return and this surface should suit her better.

Croagh Patrick only found one too good off this rating at Hexham last time and that form gives him a big chance, while Marajman and Finalshot are closely matched based on their meeting here in June and they complete the shortlist.

RESTANDBETHANKFUL was a different proposition ridden from the front here last time and can again prove too strong for the reopposing Marajman, who has finished in the first 3 on his last 5 visits here. Croagh Patrick can also hit the frame again.

Top of the list is CROAGH PATRICK, who is still on a workable mark after his clear second at Hexham two weeks ago.

SPIRIT OF ASH shaped as if she had another race in her when meeting trouble in running at Musselburgh on Wednesday and is fancied to put that third-placed effort behind her in this contest to return to winning ways. Rory The Cat proved a different proposition in reapplied headgear when getting up to triumph at Beverley last month and is expected to be involved once more off 4lb higher, while the in-form Stelios and course winner Jaminoz also enter the reckoning.

RORY THE CAT made his second start for Lucinda Russell a winning one at Beverley and he can follow up from a 4 lb higher mark. GIVAGO runs in a tongue-tie on July debut aged five but represents Willie Mullins and is by a sire who the trainer has a good record with and includes State Man and Sharjah. The selection was withdrawn from a French foal sale in 2018, is out of a Grade 2-winning hurdler whose half-brother is smart hunter chaser Vaucelet, and debuts for a leading owner. Arabian Diamond has proven form and while narrowly beaten in Kilbeggan by a Mullins-trained hotpot who had finished fourth at the Punchestown Festival, remains vulnerable to smart newcomers. Mont Beuvray ran well in a useful Curragh winners' bumper last month but might also find a smart type too strong, while Lake Winnipesaukee had bumper form last autumn but needs to improve.

Gordon Elliott's ARABIAN DIAMOND has improved with each of his three runs and is taken to build on his excellent Kilbeggan second and fend off Willie Mullins's newcomer Givago, who rates a big threat. Mont Beuvray appeals as the pick of the remainder for place purposes.

The way Willie Mullins is moppng up in bumpers lately makes it difficult to oppose the well-bred GIVAGO.

THE DEFIANT justified strong support when winning with something in hand over C&D and Daniel Steele's seven-year-old is hard to oppose off 5lb higher. Democracy Dilemma hasn't been disgraced on turf of late and is expected to remain competitive now reverting to the all-weather off 2lb lower. May Sonic could also get involved now dropped into a 0-90 contest and completes the shortlist.

DEMOCRACY DILEMMA produced a career best when scoring at Thirsk in April and, having been in good form on the all-weather previously, he can return to winning ways down in grade. The Defiant won over C&D last time and is feared most ahead of The Thames Boatman.

Rogue Spirit and Twilight Madness are respected but THE THAMES BOATMAN (nap) still appeals as being ahead of his mark.

The rest all have questions to answer but The Wrekin could go well if back to his best.

A good opportunity for THE BOOLA BOSS to complete the hat-trick over fences with all his rivals having something to prove for one reason or another. Herewegohoney is next best.

Their latest starts saw THE BOOLA BOSS win well over 2m7f, shaping as if he would stay further, whereas the others performed moderately.
