Gushing Gold was not disgraced in the Albany at Royal Ascot last time and Andrew Balding's filly merits the utmost respect back down in grade here. That said, a chance can be taken with BOURGEOISIE, who caught the eye when fifth on debut in a valuable maiden at Newmarket last week. The daughter of Siyouni may improve significantly for that experience and she should not be underestimated. Betties Bay and Eleftheria are others with valid form claims, while Pannonica and Raqiya look to be best of the newcomers.

GUSHING GOLD has a lot less on her plate than when in midfield in the Albany so looks the way to go unless one of the newcomers proves well above average. Raqiya and Pannonica appeal most of those starting out here and could emerge as the main threats to Andrew Balding's fairly useful filly in that order.

After a perfectly respectable ninth at Royal Ascot last month, GUSHING GOLD can now deliver on her debut promise.

Those with previous form don't make that much appeal and it may be worth taking a chance on REEL HER IN making a successful debut. The Highland Reel filly is out of Jer's Girl who won two Grade 1 hurdles for the same connections and it will be interesting to see how strong she is the market. There isn't much to choose between Sparkit and Thats Jet on running behind Spinning Web in the opening juvenile hurdle of the season at Tipperary, where Show No Fear dropped away in the straight to finish eight lengths back in sixth. Kyogo was runner-up twice in maidens last year for Michael Bell.

SPARKIT took well to hurdling at the first attempt when third at Tipperary just over a fortnight ago so he's fancied to put that experience to good use with first-time headgear enlisted. Kyogo represents top trainer Gordon Elliott, so he has to be feared on hurdling debut, with Thats Jet and Reel Her In another couple to consider in a tricky opener to solve.

SOUTHWOLD did well on AW over the winter and this looks a decent opportunity for him to make a winning start to his turf career. The front-running Tele Red can bounce back from a lesser run at Newbury and give him most to do.

NEVER SO BRAVE made a promising start to his racing career when finishing in second over 7f at Newmarket last month. A half-brother to Group 2 (6f) winner Barraquero, he could take advantage of a shorter stamina test and looks capable of breaking his maiden at the second time of asking. Vandeek's price increased from 42,000 guineas as a yearling to 625,000 guineas as a two-year-old and the newcomer must warrant a market check based on that, while Mitwaa is another to consider after a respectable introduction at Newbury.

VANDEEK fetched 625,000 guineas at the Breeze-Ups and his trainer has done well in the past with similar types, particularly first time out, so he's worth chancing to get the better of Never So Brave, who arrives on the back of an encouraging start. Alaskan Gold is another one to consider in what could prove to be a strong maiden.

The vote goes to Sir Michael Stoute's NEVER SO BRAVE, who sets a good standard on his debut second behind a smart rival at Newmarket.

MAXIMUM DIVIDEND was only denied by a nose when a fast-finishing second on his racecourse debut at Sandown a couple of weeks ago. Richard Hannon's colt should only improve for that experience and he could prove tough to beat if doing so. There are plenty of well-bred newcomers in this field, but Trafalgar Square is arguably the most noteworthy being a 600,000gns half-brother to the recent Jersey winner Age Of Kings. Boiling Point and King Of Luck, who was also an expensive purchase at 325,000gns, are others who make the shortlist.

MAXIMUM DIVIDEND has to be the call on the back of his promising debut second at Sandown a couple of weeks ago but there are a number of likely types among the newcomers. Trafalgar Square, King of Luck and Boiling Point are perhaps the most interesting of those debutants but the betting will provide more clues.

Maximum Dividend is the form horse, while BOILING POINT and Trafalgar Square are particularly interesting among the newcomers.

EMILY IN PARIS has filled the runner-up spot on her latest three starts and can gain a deserved winning turn. The daughter of Champs Elysees has shown stamina is her strong suit and was again putting in her best work at the finish last time when beating all bar Walk In Time over three miles at Tipperary. Bumper winner Brianna Lily was no match for the long odds-on The Big Doyen at Tipperary earlier this month but she won't face anything of that calibre here, while Jumping Susie showed promise last year and shaped well after a lengthy break when runner-up to Miss Fourie over 2m4f at Bellewstown. Artemis Angel and What An Ocean are others to consider.

EMILY IN PARIS is going the right way and, having found only one too good in a 17-runner handicap at Tipperary recently, she's taken to go one better in this slightly less competitive scenario. Jumping Susie is a big player, while Brianna Lily has scope for further improvement based on her bumper exploits, so she's also considered.

Bint Havana Grey shaped promisingly on her debut at Newbury last month and seems sure to improve, while Princess Alex should have learnt from her opening effort at Hamilton and may prove best of the rest.

Cubanista looks the best of the rest.

WADI BANI was strong in the betting prior to finishing a creditable sixth (not beaten far) at Newbury last time, so he's worth a chance to capitalise on a drop in grade. Shallow Hal arrives on the back of success at Carlisle and remains well treated on old form, so he's regarded as the main danger ahead of Northern Spirit.

Preference is for SHALLOW HAL (nap), who finished well when scoring off a reduced mark at Carlisle and is only 2lb higher here.

The son of Mehmas should have no problem seeing out the extra furlong here and he looks to have a bright future. Thyer shares his page with some top-class performers and it would be no surprise to see him go well, despite his lack of race experience. Mai Dubai was a 200,000-pound purchase last year and has to be of some interest as a result, while Grand Karat and Maxim De Winter both require market inspections.

WARM SPELL is in good hands and made a pleasing start at Goodwood, so he's the obvious answer to what should be an informative novice. Allegorical makes plenty of appeal on pedigree and Thyer strikes as another interesting newcomer for a top stable.

The second division of a traditionally smart novice event. WARM SPELL is first choice ahead of newcomer Thyer.

There should be plenty of pace on here with a number of confirmed front-runners and perhaps the race will set up well for PRINCE ZALTAR who has progressed well this year. He won a 26-runner 2m4f handicap at Navan and was again successful over that trip here in May. The tongue strap fitted on that occasion is reapplied. Dartan has appreciated a change of tactics to score at the Curragh on Derby weekend and again set the pace in a three-mile handicap hurdle at Bellewstown. Miss Tempo also likes to dictate and is on a hat-trick following wins at Naas and when upped in trip at Tipperary, although a cumulative rise of 19lb will make life more difficult.

MISS TEMPO boasts a progressive profile and had something to spare when scoring at Tipperary 78 days ago. With further improvement on the cards she's fancied to complete the hat-trick at the likely expense of Dartan, who scored at Bellewstown recently. Uhtred is also considered on debut for Gordon Elliott.

HOUR BY HOUR didn't quite kick on as expected from his return display when runner-up at Pontefract in April, having not appeared to get home over 7f at Leicester before disappointing at Hamilton. That said, he returns from two months off the track and is capable of bouncing back on this occasion. Cold Stare has been running consistently well this season and is likely to enter calculations, while Asadjumeirah and Danzart are others who are capable of a decent showing.

DANZART has had an excellent time of things since being refitted with a hood and would have been right in the mix but for ending up with so much to do here 2 weeks ago, so he remains one to be interested in. Asadjumeirah is proving a bit expensive to follow but should take advantage of his reduced mark before long, with Cold Stare also feared.

If over his Hamilton disappointment, HOUR BY HOUR can account for comparative veterans Cold Stare and Asadjumeirah.

However, a shorter stamina test looks set to suit OBAMA ARMY, who was headed inside the final furlong over 1m2f at Epsom earlier this month. Now rated 4lb above his last winning mark, which came over a similar distance at Bath in May, he can bounce back to winning ways. The unexposed Sea Of Elegance is another to bear in mind on her handicap bow.

SEA OF ELEGANCE looks the type who'll do better in handicaps so this Sea The Stars filly can defy an opening mark of 65. Lucidity and Obama Army can place again.

The vote goes to LUCIDITY, who has finished placed behind major improvers in both her handicaps and is still unexposed.

Fox Journey finished a decent fourth in deeper waters at Pontefract on his most recent outing and must enter calculations if building on that run, even though he loses Harry Davies' 3lb claim here. However, it could be worth taking a chance on the fellow class-dropping ENOCHDHU. Jonathan Portman's three-year-old has dropped to 4lb above his last winning mark, which came over an extended 1m3f at Windsor in May, and is fancied to bounce back from a disappointing showing at Salisbury last month. The unexposed Brave Knight is another to consider.

There is probably better to come from DASHO LENNIE over this trip and he gets the nod ahead of Fox Journey. The selection chased home a rapid-improver in Fairbanks (winner again since) off this mark on his first attempt at 1½m at Leicester where he had a few of these rivals behind. Fox Journey also acquitted himself well upped to this trip for the first time at Pontefract and is likely to offer stern resistance, while Open Champion and Temporize both make each-way appeal.

Another chance can be given to FOX JOURNEY, who was shuffled back to a poor position before staying on well for fourth at Pontefract.

John Ryan is well represented with three runners and THE DARA MAN may repeat his win of 12 months ago. The Stowaway gelding needs to bounce back after a disappointing display at Tipperary but was previously in good form when going close twice last month at Punchestown and Kilbeggan. The Dasher Conway won twice over hurdles and made most of the running when scoring in fine style on his first completed start in a handicap chase at Tramore last month. Sole Pretender uncharacteristically refused to race last time but has been a good money spinner for connections both over hurdles and fences, while Pats Choice was a fortunate winner at Wexford last month.

THE DASHER CONWAY showed improved form to open his account over fences at Tramore 7 weeks ago, relishing the return to front-running tactics, and can make another bold bid. Pats Choice was fortunate to win at Wexford when left clear at the last but he still beat the rest easily so rates the main threat.

Carrigillihy gained a second success of the season at Pontefract last Tuesday and is feared most off a 5lb penalty here, while Mothill is another to note on this return to the Flat, having recorded a career-best performance over hurdles at Uttoxeter last month.

PRINCE ALEX has been lightly raced in recent years, but he showed that he retains his ability when fourth at Newmarket on his second run for his current yard in May. The 6-y-o is now 4 lb below his last winning mark and can get the better of Ravenscraig Castle, who has returned to form on his last 2 starts. Quantum Leap also merits consideration.

The top two make the most appeal. PRINCE ALEX has the winning form over 1m6f with cut, and is preferred to Ravenscraig Castle.

MISS DOLLY ROCKER has been a model of consistency in her career to date and this looks a nice opportunity to get her head in front. Roger Teal's runner was just touched off over 1m2f at Bath on her previous outing, beaten just a neck, and a repeat of that effort could see her shed her maiden tag today. Pourquoi appears to be the biggest danger after making a pleasing start to her career and her connections will be hoping that things fall right for her today after being hampered late on at Chelmsford last time, while Sonnet Star heads the remainder.

This looks between MISS DOLLY ROCKER and Pourquoi. If the ground remains on the slow side Roger Teal's charge will be taking a step into the unknown, as her reappearance/turf debut near-miss at Bath was on fast ground, whereas Pourquoi's debut second at Windsor was on heavy, so the forecast conditions won't be a problem where she's concerned. Still, the form of Miss Dolly Rocker's Bath effort looks solid and she will take some stopping if handling conditions. Sonnet Star is best of the rest.

Spring Fever and Secret Shadow are others to consider.

SPRING FEVER is going the right way and can defy a 10 lb rise for her comfortable Newmarket victory. Flower of Dubai and Alba Longa head the list of dangers.

This looks between the most progressive contenders in the field, namely FLOWER OF DUBAI, Spring Fever and Night Sparkle.

HERCULE DU SEUIL was a useful novice over hurdles winning three times last season including a Grade 2 at Fairyhouse. The Willie Mullins-trained gelding is a keen running sort and opened his account over fences at Ballinrobe when taking command in the straight to beat Ballyadam. The latter's trainer is now represented by Watch House Cross, who has won his latest two starts over fences both at Wexford and readily accounted for Saldier over 2m4f last time. Solness has taken really well to fences, although he did jump a shade right when again making all at Tipperary last time.

HERCULE DU SEUIL matched his smart hurdles form on just his second start over fences when winning in effortless fashion at Ballinrobe in May and, with that form proving strong, he's difficult to oppose. Watch House Cross is getting the hang of chasing now and is feared most on the back of an improved performance at Wexford.

It isn't easy to oppose HERCULE DU SEUIL(nap) after an impressive win on his second chase start at Ballinrobe.

Although UTILIS has something to prove after an underwhelming reappearance on the all-weather earlier in the month, Brian Ellison's charge holds strong claims on last season's turf efforts and may bounce back to form in what looks a weak affair. Dark Desire was pulled up on her debut here last year but better can be expected, while newcomer Inca Queen is a potential fly in the ointment and is worth a second look in the betting.

This could go to one of the two newcomers, with INCA QUEEN chanced over Crown Dreams before market clues. Dark Desire needs keeping an eye on in the market as she was prominent in the betting when pulling up lame on her course debut last summer. Utilis sets the standard and this is easier than the 0-105 Newcastle handicap he ran poorly in on his return.

Utilis is respected but INCA QUEEN looks the part on paper and is an interesting alternative.

A weak affair, with VALSOPRESA the stand-out name. A brother to Presenting Percy, he was a beaten favourite at Down Royal last month but can be forgiven for that performance after his saddle slipped early on. Third on debut in a stronger contest at Naas in February, a reproduction of that effort should see him hard to beat. Third on recent outings at Wexford and Listowel respectively, Johnny M is capable of making his presence felt, while it'll be interesting to see how Kiss My Lucky Egg fares on his first start for Peter McCreery. Successful on debut in a bumper at Newton Abbot, he since proved disappointing in four starts for Emmet Mullins. A dual winner on the level, Blackcastle Storm has definite claims with Keith Donoghue aboard, while others of interest are Qatar Spirit, Edge Of My Seat and Il Silenzio.

VALSORPRESA has some fairly useful form to his name and didn't enjoy the rub of the green when fourth at Down Royal last time so can open his account here. Edge Of My Seat appeals as the one to chase home Gordon Elliott's 5-y-o ahead of hurdling newcomer Blackcastle Storm who was fairly useful on the level.

This looks a very weak maiden and VALSORPRESA won't get a better opportunity

BRABUSACH is taken to deservedly get his head in front having found just one too good on each of his last four starts. He didn't appear to have any problems with the slow surface at Salisbury last time and deserves a change of luck. Ice Shadow and Lincoln Rockstar can do battle for minor honours.

The vote goes to BRABUSACH, who has finished second in his last four starts, including behind a handicap blot at Salisbury last week.

Balon D'or is likely to ask the most questions after a decent fourth in a Group 3 at Chantilly, while Markakol should also be thereabouts.

ASADNA failed to meet expectations in the Coventry at Royal Ascot but is worth another chance to confirm debut promise down in class. Shagraan looked good when winning at Windsor so rates the main threat ahead of Markakol, who should continue to progress.

Gondor filled the runner-up spot three times over hurdles last year including over 2m6f at Navan and, following a six-month break, made a bright return over fences when third to Glen Ava over this trip at Limerick. Agirlcalledchloe and Chainofconsequence filled the places behind Search For A Myth at Tipperary, while Kingston Kid and Early Arrival are others to consider.

GONDOR matched his hurdles form in this sphere when third at Limerick in May and could be the answer with further improvement possible. Norwigi isn't one to write off from a slipping mark, while Chainofconsequence and Shantou Sisu are others with claims.

After making a decent start in handicap chase company when third at Limerick on return, GONDOR can improve enough to score.

Streaky Bay defied market expectation when holding on to triumph at Yarmouth recently and a 2lb rise shouldn't prevent Jane Chapple-Hyam's filly from going close once more. Princess Naomi was too bad to be true at Salisbury in mid-June and the three-year-old could also have a say.

The Gavin Cromwell-trained five-year-old ran a fine race on just his second start in handicap company at Bellewstown recently and he is open to further improvement. Maggie Walsh is out of Akatara, who was a bit of a course specialist, winning three times at Kilbeggan. A dual winner in her own right, the Dylan Thomas bay is capable of making her presence felt. Cathys Quest is a half-sister to Sole Pretender and it'll be interesting to see how she fares in first time cheekpieces, while others for the shortlist are Jinxs Link, the Philip Rothwell-trained Prince Of Air and UK import Black Tonic, who makes his debut for Richard O'Brien.

Gavin Cromwell's ON MY BIKE was an encouraging fourth at Bellewstown on his return from a break 13 days ago and a lightly-raced profile gives him the potential to build on that. The Virginian is second choice on the back of his good fourth at Roscommon last month. Jinxs Link and Maggie Walsh also make the shortlist.

Christine Dunnett's charge wasn't as effective off her new mark when slowly away over 6f at that same venue on Wednesday, but the return 5f will suit and she is fancied to bounce back to form. Lady Celia is feared most off a plummeting handicap mark, while Kyber Crystal could also get involved.

It could be worth chancing ACLAIM TO FAME, who's on a good mark if able to reproduce the form of her Redcar second. Lady Celia could be the danger.

This looks trappy but LADY CELIA gets the vote ahead of Kyber Crystal.

OUTGUN was the best of those that came up the centre when third in a C&D handicap last month and, if more goes his way, this progressive gelding might well be able to open his account. Vegas Jack shaped well behind Racing Demon (who re-opposes) at Salisbury last time, so he's a danger, while Isle of Jura is a notable handicap debutant.

Top of the list is OUTGUN, who posted a good effort when placed over C&D on his seasonal/handicap debut and may well improve further.

ABI'S CHAMP filled the runner-up spot on debut at Punchestown on New Year's Eve and made no mistake when readily landing the odds at Downpatrick last month. That probably wasn't the strongest of races but the Willie Mullins-trained mare could not have won any easier. Roedara justified favouritism on debut at Down Royal last month but it's hard to gauge the merit of that performance as the first seven home were all newcomers who haven't raced since. Dark Image also won on debut at Limerick last summer but hasn't added to that success in four outings since, while Derek O'Connor is an interesting booking on the well-bred Feron Lake.

ABI'S CHAMP looked a good prospect when landing the odds in fine style at Downpatrick and can defy a penalty. Fellow-penalised winner Roedora is the obvious threat with Dorset Lady best of the others.

It is difficult to oppose ABI'S CHAMP after her impressive win against some useful geldings at Downpatrick.

A wide-open affair, with CRACKLINROSE the suggestion. Placed three times last summer, the Yeats six-year-old disappointed on her return to action at Tramore but is entitled to come on for that effort. She looks nicely treated off a mark of 80 and with Liam Quinlan claiming 5lb, it'll be disappointing if she is not involved towards the business end. A dual course and distance winner, Beat Of The Sea is given second preference. While it's approaching three years since her most recent success, she did run well to finish fifth on her latest start. Corkbeg has been disappointing since winning at Wexford in May but still warrants respect here as the highest rated runner in the line-up. Kellie's Dream also has a Wexford win to her name and has solid claims after running well to finish fourth on her recent return. Silverstrand is another leading contender, while market support for any of the handicap debutants would be of definite interest.

KELLIE'S DREAM is still relatively low mileage and made a pleasing return to action at Downpatrick last week. She gets the nod. Breagagh and Corkbeg also make the shortlist.

There was plenty to like about both performances but the eye was just drawn slightly more to the latter, who finished off well and is fancied to overturn the placings. Point Of Attack shaped with loads of promise when second at Lingfield on debut and, having been pitched into Listed company here at the start of the month, she cannot be discounted back at this level.

WILD GODDESS finished narrowly behind the reopposing Summit on her debut at Haydock, but was arguably greener and, with significant improvement forecast, is selected to reverse the form and come out on top over this 1f longer trip. Point of Attack remains with potential back in calmer waters, while Poutchek and Faithful Springs are a pair of interesting newcomers.

Despite just five runners lining up here, this still appears to be a very difficult puzzle to solve, with the tentative selection being JONNY CONCRETE. Iain Jardine's charge was just touched off by the narrowest of margins over C&D on his racecourse debut here last month and a repeat of that effort could see him take all the beating. Ballymount Boy rates as the biggest danger after he made a pleasing start to his career when second of eight over 6f at Newmarket and he shouldn't be ruled out, while Gamraan could also be thereabouts.

JONNY CONCRETE split a pair of subsequent winners when just failing to make a successful debut over C&D last month so gets the vote. Greenness prevented Ballymount Boy from scoring first-time up at Newcastle so he's the obvious threat.

Plenty of unraced colts and fillies so the market may provide the best guide to solving this puzzle. However, the form standard appears to be Sleven, who took a big step forward to finish fifth at Doncaster recently. Of the unraced runners, Richard Fahey is double handed with the speedily-bred ZIGGY'S CONDOR appearing the more fancied runner, ahead of Sailthisshipalone, and any market confidence behind him should be noted. Another to note is Royal Zabeel, who is a son of Mastercraftsman and could be ready to roll first time out.

The market should reveal plenty but the vote goes to Richard Fahey's well-related newcomer ZIGGY'S CONDOR. He can edge out the more experienced duo of Alfie Boy and Sleven who have both shown some fair form and look open to further progress. Kevin Ryan's debutant Royal Zabeel is another who needs considering in an open-looking novice.

With a mark of 118, SUNDIAL is the standout name. A son of Galileo and successful on the level when trained by Aidan O'Brien, he has yet to make the breakthrough in five starts over flights. A close-up fourth in the Boodles at the Cheltenham Festival in March, he takes a significant drop-in class now and is difficult to oppose. Padraig Roche trains the selection for JP McManus and the pair are also represented by newcomer Can't Buy Time. Out of a sister to 2016 Irish National winner Rogue Angel, the Getaway bay was purchased for E60,000 as a three-year-old. Placed six times from 17 career starts, Ta Na La is the biggest danger to Sundial, given significant weight differential. Mr Globalist, Mr Dibbs and Sidiriya are likely to be fighting it out for minor honours.

TA NA LA has made a promising start over hurdles and is fancied to build on her Tramore second and go one better at the chief expense of Fred Winter-fourth Sundial who rates much the biggest threat. Mr Globalist appeals as the pick of the remainder for place purposes.

The Ed Dunlop-trained Nikki's Girl showed a return to form when third at Wolverhampton last time and a repeat effort would put her bang there.

WEYDAAD shaped well on her seasonal/handicap debut when third at Kempton last month, doing good late work from an unpromising position, so she's taken to open her account as she makes her first start on turf. Nikki's Girl returned to form on her latest outing and is feared most ahead of Strike, who won at this course last summer.

It was a promising first run in handicaps by WEYDAAD and the booking of William Buick heightens interest further.

Similar comments apply to Swift Salian, who also makes his handicap bow after a decent second over 7f at Musselburgh last time and this drop in trip could suit, while Dc Flyer completes the shortlist.

BEYOND BORDERS was only workmanlike when off the mark at the second attempt in a Thirsk novice 16 days ago but he represents a yard that do particularly well with their juveniles, and it would come as no surprise to see him improve more now handicapping. Up The Jazz is feared most over Swift Salian.

Having still looked green when winning at Thirsk this could be a good opportunity for BEYOND BORDERS to win again.

NATURAL LOOK was a convincing winner at Cork a week ago and should be able to follow up with Ray Barron claiming a valuable 7lb. A model of consistency last season, the Ocovango seven-year-old disappointed on her first two starts this term, before comfortably dismissing 14-rivals at Cork. Upped 10lb for that success, she might still be ahead of the handicapper on a career high mark of 110. Thornleigh Frank was also successful last week, landing a gamble on his handicap debut at Downpatrick. An 11lb hike from the handicapper duly followed and it'll be interesting to see how he copes with that rise. Goodie Girl is another last time out winner in the line-up and she is sure to have plenty of supporters after her surprise Downpatrick win. Twice-raced since winning at Roscommon in July of 2021, Spoiled Rotten warrants respect, while other leading contenders here are Betty Dutton, Hot As Pepper and Bold Emperor, with the latter rated 12lb higher over fences.

THORNLEIGH FRANK was so impressive at Downpatrick last week that even an 11 lb rise may not stop him. Natural Look also had plenty in hand when winning on his latest start and is second choice ahead of Dermot McLoughlin's Goodie Girl.

Kiaraad was an impressive winner of a maiden at Beverley but a 5lb penalty makes life tougher, while Jeff Koons failed to live up to market expectations when second at Kempton on debut in April but has been given plenty of time to mature since.

ELNAJMM has hit the crossbar on both outings so far and, having looked an unlucky loser on return at Windsor just under 3 weeks ago, William Haggas' colt is fancied to make it third time lucky. The main danger may emerge from Modesty, who remains with potential having shaped as if better for the run after 8 months off at Doncaster 7 weeks ago. English Oak and Kiaraad are another couple to consider.

A good novice. ELNAJMM is evidently a winner waiting to happen having been held back by his inexperience thus far.

The way ROCK MELODY finished off for third in a big field at Ayr on Monday suggests she still has some mileage in her mark and she can resume winning ways. Khunan took a big step back in the right direction at Haydock recently and is second choice ahead of the thriving Paws For Thought and Illusionist, who was close up in fourth in behind the selection at Ayr on Monday.

KENTUCKY BLUEGRASS remains unbeaten since being gelded last year and, having won at Lingfield in impressive fashion last month, he is likely to prove a tough nut to crack in his search for a hat-trick of victories. Beltane is arguably unlucky not to have won all three starts since moving to Mick Appleby. However, he did manage to get his head in front at Beverley last time and remains open to improvement. Hartswood justified market support to score at Thirsk in May and he is likely to enter the reckoning.

BELTANE has proven a much more reliable proposition this campaign, gaining his second victory this term and his first for Mick Appleby at Beverley 31 days ago, doing well to fend off one who was played later. Only 2 lb higher now, he gets the nod to continue the good work. 3-y-o Kentucky Bluegrass arrives in search of the hat-trick for a stable in very good form and is feared. Vaccine and Devasboy complete the shortlist.

CHOICE OF WORDS gets the nod over Jungle Prose and Mousey Brown. The selection went down by just half a length here in May and was fancied by some shrewd judges for the Midlands National last week. As second reserve, she ultimately didn't get a run. Given a mark of 121, the eight-year-old should prove hard to beat, representing Punchestown Gold Cup winning connections. Jungle Prose was a revelation over flights late last year, rattling off four wins in a row. Second on her penultimate outing at Wexford, she makes her debut over fences now and should be able to make her presence felt. Mousey Brown has won her last two at Wexford and it'll come as no surprise if she manages to complete the hat-trick. Successful in a point-to-point on debut, the Califet six-year-old is clearly a talented individual. The remaining four contenders look up against it, with Will You Win the best of them.

CHOICE OF WORDS pulled clear of the rest when collared in the dying strides over this C&D when last seen in May and she is taken to go one better this time. Jungle Prose ran no sort of a race in a handicap hurdle at Uttoxeter recently but she will be a serious threat if she puts her best foot forward now switched to fences. Best of the rest is Mousey Brown, who appears to be going the right way judged on her victories over hurdles the last twice and she was a point winner earlier this year.

ROYAL SYMBOL shaped better than the beaten distance suggests when fourth on his belated return to action at Sandown in May, and Charlie Appleby's gelding looks fairly treated on his handicap debut. Like A Tiger was perhaps a little disappointing in a Listed event last time, nevertheless, a 77-day break and return to handicap company may see the three-year-old prove more competitive. Ziryab and Therapist are just but two others to note in a competitive contest.

Kingman colt ZIRYAB had looked firmly on the up until not seen to best effect when fifth at Royal Ascot so is worth another chance to confirm himself a useful colt in the making. Moonlit Cloud is more exposed but arrives at the top of her game and seems sure to have a say, while the handily-weighted Like A Tiger and C&D scorer Therapist need factoring into a highly competitive handicap too.

The 3yo ZIRYAB will need to settle better than he did at Royal Ascot but the potential is there to be the best handicapped of these.

A small but select field for the feature race, in which SALT BAY is taken to open his account for the season. The Ralph Beckett-trained colt failed to handle the undulations of Newmarket on his seasonal debut but has been given plenty of time since and edges the vote. Chesspiece looks the obvious threat having finished a creditable third behind Gregory in the Queen's Vase at Royal Ascot, while Circle of Fire was just over a length back in fourth in that same race and he can't be discounted now dropping in trip.

The Crisfords saddled the winner of this in 2022 and can repeat the dose with CHESSPIECE, who was acquired by Godolphin after winning a York handicap and his subsequent third to a potential star future stayer at Royal Ascot was no backward step. Salt Bay is greatly respected on account of his 2-y-o promise and will be a big threat if putting his disappointing Newmarket reappearance behind him. Circle of Fire wasn't far behind Chesspiece at Royal Ascot and has claims, along with Sea of Roses.

Sea Of Roses can go well back on slower ground but CHESSPIECE is progressing well and can capitalise on this drop in grade.

ELEGANT ERIN has caught the eye in both starts this term and will appreciate this stiffer course. She can resume winning ways. Copper Knight and Mattice are feared most in what looks a competitive contest.

Back over the larger obstacles now and with this trip likely to suit, he should give a good account of himself. Recent course-and-distance winner Pakens Rock is given second preference. The 10-year-old has seven wins to his name and has been consistent in recent starts. Handicap debutants Changing The Rules and Hamundarson are of definite interest, with the former bidding to follow up on a Wexford win. The Walk In The Park bay will have to defy top-weight under Mark Walsh and it'll come as no surprise if he manages to do so. Paul Flynn has his horses in fine form of late and Golden Sandbanks is another leading hope.

There should be more to come from CHANGING THE RULES, who found improvement when scoring at Wexford last month and is still unexposed over fences. He can follow up. Pakens Rock and Where's Bunny can also make their presence felt.

ONE LAST HUG wasn't beaten far when third at Ayr four days ago and with a return to this sharper trip likely to suit, he's fancied to make it win number four so far this season. Honour Your Dreams was a head in front of the selection in that same race but he may have to settle for minor honours again as his best form has come over further. Huddle Up didn't look the easiest of rides at Chester, when he was a respectable third despite the circumstances, and he looks sure to be thereabouts.

A tightly-knit handicap with HUDDLE UP taken to gain reward for his consistency this season. Betweenthesticks and One Last Hug head the opposition.

Huddle Up looks set to go well once again but HONOUR YOUR DREAM could be worth chancing on this drop to 5f.

INTERGALACTICAT appeared to travel with more verve when gaining a breakthrough success in first-time cheekpieces at Doncaster last month and he may have more to offer on this return to handicap company off 2lb higher. Mildyjama came good at the third time of asking in this sphere at Ffos Las earlier in July and is feared most after receiving a 2lb rise in the ratings too. Damascus Steel and Dancing Gypsy are others to note in what appears an open affair.

Preference is for MILDYJAMA, who upped her game when scoring at Ffos Las earlier this month and remains fairly treated. Damascus Steel and Intergalacticat look the likeliest dangers.

A chance is taken on FOREVER PROUD, who threatens to be well suited by tonight's stiffer test. Intergalacticat is second choice.

Returned at 200/1, DAICHEADACUIG ran a huge race to finish third over the course and distance last month, and a reproduction of that effort would see him hard to beat. Not the most consistent, the Arcadio eight-year-old took minor honours behind Uncle Phil and was just two and three-parts of a length behind subsequent Cork victor Winter Fog. I A Connect was sixth and he also gave the form a boost, winning on his next start at Tipperary. Like the selection, Caridadi has a course win to his name and the 12-year-old is given second preference. A fast-finishing third on his most recent outing at Wexford in March, he should be able to make his presence felt in a contest of this quality. Royal Juniper is a point-to-point winner and would be of definite interest if market support arrives. A case can be made for many others in this weak affair, with Fly De Megaudais, Seskin Flyer and Tick Along all sure to have their supporters.

This looks wide open and it could be worth siding with DAICHEADACUIG, who exceeded market expectations when third in a maiden chase here last month and he returns to handicap company on a potentially workable mark. Tick Along got the better of the re-opposing Hockworthy Flyer at Downpatrick in May and is next on the list ahead of Caridadi, who was a good third off this mark when last seen at Wexford during the spring. Lesssaidthebetter is also worth a second look.

Keith Donoghue's presence for the first time on TICK ALONG is a big plus and maybe he can guide her to a first win over fences

CONQUISTADOR finished a fine third in the Palace of Holyroodhouse at Royal Ascot last month and the son of U S Navy Flag could take some stopping off the same mark in this contest. Eeh Bah Gum made the perfect start for Ivan Furtado at Lingfield earlier in the month and a 3lb rise shouldn't prevent the eight-year-old from being involved once again. Skallywag Bay also arrives in good heart and is likely to be involved in some capacity too.

SKALLYWAG BAY has performed creditably both starts since winning at Lingfield and would've gone closer still last time granted more luck, so with Alec Voikhansky taking a valuable 5 lb off, she's fancied to get the better of last week's C&D second Isle of Lismore. Royal Ascot third Conquistador and Ivan Furtado's new recruit Eeh Bah Gum are also considered in a competitive heat.

This is a marked drop in grade for CONQUISTADOR (nap), who was an excellent third at Royal Ascot, and he can continue his progress.

Jim Goldie landed this race last year and although he's made it harder for punters by running three this time around, it looks like TAFSIR is his main challenger. It looked like she wasn't going to get a clear run at Musselburgh earlier this month but once Paul Mulrennan edged her out to see daylight, she quickened up smartly to score and may still be well treated despite a 4lb rise. The likely dangers appear to be recent Ripon runner-up Blue Antares, who should relish this extra yardage, and Crystal Guard, who hasn't been seen since early March but has gone well when fresh before.

BLUE ANTARES clearly isn't going to live up to his pedigree (half-brother to King's Stand/Diamond Jubilee winner Blue Point) but he comes here having run his best race yet sporting a first-time visor when second at Ripon (12f) 11 days ago and he could be worth siding with to build on that now. Tafsir, a comfortable winner at Musselburgh, is a big threat, along with A Day To Dream.

The fitting of a visor saw BLUE ANTARES take a step forward at Ripon 11 days ago and he can get off the mark at the eighth attempt.

Sir Maxi, a winner over C&D as a juvenile, is likely to prove popular after his latest second over 7f at Haydock. However, 6f these days may prove on the sharp side, with a wide draw unlikely to help too. With that in mind, a chance is taken on LORD ABAMA, who should appreciate a return to this distance having found a drop to 5f against him at Beverley recently. The in-form Patontheback is another viable alternative.

Claims can be made for most, including 3-y-o EL MONTEJEAN who returned to form from out of the blue and fared best of those ridden prominently when fourth at Thirsk 16 days ago and he could just be worth siding with to back that up from a handy draw with his yard amongst the winners. Lord Abama, veteran Round The Island and Corinthia Knight head up the dangers.

Patontheback and Sir Maxi (second choice) are players, but veteran ROUND THE ISLAND is fancied to notch an eighth C&D win.
