Shadow Dance

3/1(+14%)
(6) Shadow Dance 3/1, Displayed fairly useful form when placed in a pair of 10f novices in the spring. Not in same form at Windsor when last seen in June but wasn't ideally placed so can be given another chance on handicap debut.
Open to improvement for his top trainer now up in distance on handicap debut.

Golden Maverick

3.33/1(+17%)
(3) Golden Maverick 3.33/1, Highly progressive this season and typically responded well to pick up his fifth win of the campaign in cosy fashion at Doncaster (10.2f) in July. Ran below form in a much better race at Ascot on most recent outing but he's the type to bounce back quickly.
Hat-trick of 1m2f wins before below par over 1m4f at Ascot, but he's not written off.

Feud

(5) Feud 1.75/1, Found some improvement upped in trip when opening account over C&D in July and has matched that level both outings since, including when third in a more competitive contest at Newbury (12f) on most recent outing. Much respected.

13:30 Haydock Handicap (Class 4) 12f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Having bumped into one who landed a valuable handicap at York on her penultimate outing, DUBAI CRYSTAL then chased home a trio of progressive rivals at Chester. A brief absence ought to have freshened her up, and she is fancied to strike off an unchanged mark. Golden Maverick's winning run came to an end at Ascot but he could resume his progress. Feud and handicap debutant Shadow Dance can also have a say.

GOLDEN MAVERICK wasn't himself for whatever reason upped in trip at Ascot last time, but he's well worth the chance to bounce back from that given his progress this season. Feud and Dubai Crystal head the opposition in a tightly-knit handicap.

The step up in trip could be a positive for the lightly raced filly DUBAI CRYSTAL, whose dam Lady Of Dubai was third in the Oaks.

13:50 Ascot Stakes (Class 3) 6f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

The booking of Ryan Moore for the Clive Cox-trained newcomer Nemov catches the eye and any market confidence behind him would be significant. However, MISS INFORMATION has shown a decent level of form already and she shades the verdict. The daughter of Blue Point was beaten narrowly into third at Windsor a fortnight ago and this stiffer track should play to her strengths. Western hasn't been seen since finishing fifth on debut over 5f here May, but he left the impression that he would benefit from this step up in trip on that occasion.

WESTERN hasn't been seen since making an encouraging start to his career at this track in May, but he hails from a stable in red-hot form at present and seems sure to improve, especially with the step up to 6f in his favour, so earns the vote. Cajetan proved a major disappointment at Lingfield last time, but he was runner-up in an excellent time at Salisbury on his penultimate outing and would have major claims if returning to that sort of form. Nemov is a newcomer to note.

Newcomer NEMOV gets the vote. He is nicely bred, the stable is having a fine season with its 2yos and Ryan Moore has been booked.

(2) Raqiya 1.2/1, Displayed definite promise under hands-and-heels ride when fourth in a Newbury maiden (6f) in July and duly built on that when off the mark at Salisbury (6f) 4 weeks ago, controlling things from the front and drawing clear final 1f. Big shout under a penalty with more to come.
Built on her promising debut when making no mistake at Salisbury (odds on).
2
2nd (1) Lunar Shine (11/1 -83%)
Lunar Shine

11/1(-83%)
(1) Lunar Shine 11/1, Well-related filly who finished with a flourish when getting off the mark in good style on debut at Thirsk (6f, soft) in June. Found Group 3 level too competitive when eighth of 10 in Princess Margaret at Ascot since but return to calmer waters will help here now.
Looked good at Thirsk and raced far too freely in a Group 3 at Ascot.

All Agleam

50/1(-52%)
(3) All Agleam 50/1, Oasis Dream filly. Makes some appeal on paper but ultimately shaped as if needing debut experience when eighth of 10 in a Salisbury novice (6f) 4 weeks ago. In good hands and she rates a likely improver but she's likely best watched here.

(6) Dream Whisper 5/1, Exceed And Excel filly who showed ability without ever looking like justifying short odds when third of 7 in a Newmarket novice (7f) 2 weeks ago. Should improve for leading stable but plenty of ground to make up with re-opposing Lady Pagasa on that showing.

(11) Treat Of Treats 50/1, Kodiac filly. Easy to back but was getting the hang of things late on when finishing 5 lengths fourth of 5 in a Ripon novice (6f) on debut 32 days ago. Entitled to do better but this looks a warm enough race
16-1 for a five-runner novice at Ripon (6f, soft) and 6f looked an inadequate test.

Carpathian

The immediate fitting of a hood sets some alarm bells off but she has a good pedigree.

LTO Selection:

14:00 Haydock Stakes (Class 2) 6f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.

Lunar Shine failed to make an impact in the Princess Margaret at Ascot last time but she retains potential and must be respected down in class. Dream Whisper (third) finished behind Lady Pagasa (second) when the pair met on debut last month and both enter calculations with improvement on the cards, though a chance is taken on STAR JAMEELA. The 150,000-euro purchase is a sister to classy sprinter Birchwood, who won three of her first four starts as a juvenile (including the Group 2 Superlative Stakes).

LADY PAGASA showed plenty of ability when runner-up on debut in a Newmarket novice (7f) 2 weeks ago, headed entering final 1f but well clear of the remainder. Open to improvement, she'll cope with the this drop in trip and she gets the nod to go one place better. That said, Raqiya made little fuss of opening her account at Salisbury 4 weeks ago and rates a big threat, ahead of Dream Whisper. Star Jameela and Chaumet More are a couple of appealing newcomers to note.

Lady Pagasa can confirm HQ placings with Dream Whisper but LUNAR SHINE is taken to prove her Ascot form all wrong.

(1) Prince Achille 3.5/1, Winner at Carlisle in May and held his form well since, excellent second of 15 in 12f handicap (3/1) at Thirsk (good to soft) 21 days ago. Blinkers back on. Shortlist material.
Three placed efforts since his Carlisle win in May; up in weights but still considered.
LTO Selection:

14:10 Newcastle Handicap (Class 6) 12f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

PRINCE ACHILLE has been unlucky recently, having been narrowly denied in consecutive starts at Thirsk, but Jedd O'Keeffe's charge is fancied to receive a welcome change of luck now returned to the all-weather. Crystal Guard is 2lb lower than when successful over course and distance in January so he must enter calculations, while Lord Torranaga and Ideal Dream appeal most of the remainder.

PRINCE ACHILLE is holding his form very well this year and is taken to notch a second win. Lord Torranaga, Trailblazer and Toscan Genius are a trio of potential threats.

There was some eyecatching late headway from CRYSTAL GUARD (nap) at Ayr last time and he looks primed to record his second C&D success.

LTO Selection:

14:25 Ascot Maiden (Class 3) 7f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

This may be an informative event, but the obvious place to start is the Aidan O'Brien-trained KESTREL. The son of Justify is out of mare who was Group 2-placed over 1m2f and it would be no surprise to see him go well on debut. There wasn't much to separate Moyassr (third) and Ten Bob Tony (fourth) at Salisbury last month, where both gave the impression that this extra furlong would suit, while Olympic Candle and Accumulate also make the shortlist.

Despite signs of inexperience, OLYMPIC CANDLE fared best of the newcomers and shaped well when third in a Newbury maiden 3 weeks ago. Entitled to have derived a good deal from that effort, he could be worth siding with to come out on top. Irish-raider Kestrel holds Group-race entries and is one to note also, with The Ice Phoenix another expected to be in the mix.

Despite being sent off at 20-1 OLYMPIC CANDLE showed more than enough when third on his Newbury debut to suggest he would win races.

14:35 Haydock Handicap (Class 4) 5f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

SOUL SEEKER was defeated in the corresponding event 12 months ago by Eeh Bah Gum, but the former arrives in a good vein of form and is better off at the weights. David O'Meara's charge is fancied to get the better of Level Up, who has been steadily progressive this season. Recent Thirsk scorer Muker is another who must enter calculations, along with the Iain Jardine-trained Never Dark.

Preference is for the admirably consistent SOUL SEEKER, who remains feasibly treated and has the assistance of William Buick. Level Up and Never Dark head the list of dangers.

Last year's runner-up SOUL SEEKER has won two competitive handicaps in recent months and is the selection ahead of Muker.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

BARROLO hasn't looked back since being switched to handicaps, winning four out of five starts, and the gelded son of Havana Grey might have what it takes to defy a further 4lb rise in the ratings. Fleur De Mer hit the woodwork at Chelmsford last time and is entitled to be thereabouts once more, while market support should be noted for George Boughey's Queen Of Sparta ahead of her handicap bow.

BARROLO took another step forward as he made it 4 wins from 5 starts in handicaps with a bit to spare at Newmarket 3 weeks ago and, still unexposed at this trip, all looks set fair for another big run from Grant Tuer's progressive 3-y-o. Fellow 3-y-o Fleur de Mer is improving herself and feared along with Western Beat. Queen of Sparta is one to note in the betting now handicapping for her shrewd stable.

The 3yos FLEUR DE MER and Barrolo are handicappers heading in the right direction, with a narrow preference for the former.

15:00 Ascot Stakes (Class 2) 8f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.

SEAWARD sets a good standard based on her fourth-placed finish on debut at Newmarket last month and, as the only one in the contest with race experience, the Sea The Stars filly could prove too good for her rivals. Connections parted with 500,000gns to acquire Catch The Light last year and any market support would make Andrew Balding's charge interesting too, while Climate Action and Cavriana cannot be dismissed either.

SEAWARD was well supported when an encouraging fourth on debut at Newmarket last month and can be expected to improve from that. She can open her account. The market should prove a good guide to expectations from some interesting newcomers but Catch The Light looks particularly interesting.

With experience on her side SEAWARD is taken to get the better of the four newcomers. She should appreciate the extra furlong.

15:10 Haydock Stakes (Class 4) 8f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Charlie Appleby may not be hitting the heights of previous years but his juveniles are still running well and he appears to have found the unraced DAZZLING JEWEL a nice opportunity to open her account. Any support behind the well-bred Bolsena, who is a half-sister to the Group 1-winning Triple Time, should be noted. Another debutant to note is the Andrew Balding-trained Simple Endeavour, who is a daughter of Dubawi and was an 800,000gns purchase last year.

A novice event featuring some regally-bred newcomers, with slight preference for Godolphin's DAZZLING JEWEL, whose dam won in Group 1 company as a juvenile. Bolsena is from a top family that the yard have had plenty of success with and she's another with plenty to recommend on paper, whilst Simple Endeavour cost 800,000gns and is from the family of Barney Roy, so also looks a potentially-smart debutant.

Andrew Balding's 2yos have been running well of late and 800,000gns yearling SIMPLE ENDEAVOUR is taken to make a winning debut.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Having been given a bit of time to freshen up, CODE PURPLE failed to deliver despite being well supported at Chester in July. The Ribchester gelding has been given a similar break since then and he might resume his progress back on a synthetic surface. Three-time course winner Rocket Rod clearly enjoys it at this venue and could give the selection most to think about, ahead of Slippin Jimmy, who may improve for first-time cheekpieces.

While SIDNEY'S SON hardly broke new ground when deservedly opening his account in a Carlisle novice 16 days ago, that odds-on success could prove to be a confidence-boosting springboard for Nigel Tinkler's charge. He has performed with credit on both previous visits here and gets the nod ahead of Rocket Rod, who has followed his Doncaster win in June with a couple of solid efforts in defeat and should remain competitive. Slippin Jimmy and Sun Power are others to consider.

This is competitive. ROCKIN ROSA has reacted well to the cheekpieces going on and is taken to defy a 4lb rise for her latest C&D win.

15:27 Kilbeggan Maiden Hurdle 16f Race Speed Rating Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.

Not a strong contest and GINO DRUMMER BOY can get his head in front. He looked set to be placed again at Ballinrobe last time until a bad blunder at the last flight. Previously he had chased home The Folkes Tiara at Downpatrick and a repeat of that run should be enough to collect now. Sam Magee has an official mark of 114 and has to be respected despite running poorly on his last couple of outings in the spring. On the pick of his form he'd be the one to beat and the Jet Away gelding may appreciate a drop in class now. The Shantou King ran well when chasing home Largy Ray in a bumper here a fortnight ago and may get involved for prize-money again back over hurdles.

ZOLPHARINE has shown progressive form in bumpers, so he makes plenty of appeal now going hurdling in an ordinary-looking contest. Sam Magee sets the standard on the pick of his from and is sure to play a leading role if a first-time tongue strap has a positive effect, while Gino Drummer Boy is another to consider.

ZOLPHARINE produced his best effort yet when 2nd in a Tramore bumper last month and the 3rd has already come out and boosted the form

15:35 Ascot Handicap (Class 4) 8f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

ONE STEP BEYOND was a cosy winner over course and distance on his penultimate start and then followed that up when second at Windsor a fortnight ago. With that in mind, the six-year-old looks sure to give another good account of himself. Lenny's Spirit should not be discounted in his bid for a hat-trick either, although his recent wins have been over further and that is a slight concern. Shaladar has gone close on his last two starts and is another to note.

LENNY'S SPIRIT has thrived in amateur company under Sophie Smith this summer and the partnership are fancied to take the drop back to 1m in their stride to notch a fourth success of the campaign. Ideal Guest remains feasibly treated on his best form and arrives in good heart, so shouldn't be ruled out, whilst One Step Beyond and Shaladar complete the shortlist

The vote goes to MAYSONG who has shown some useful form in better races than this so far this year and has won under Fern O'Brien.

15:45 Haydock Handicap (Class 3) 7f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

Persuasion is likely to prove popular after his two-and-a-half-length success at Thirsk last week and a 5lb penalty shouldn't prevent another bold bid from the six-year-old. Nevertheless, CANOODLED created a deeper impression when triumphant at Newmarket last month, with Ed Walker's mare fancied to overcome a 7lb rise in the ratings. Street Kid ran one of his better races when runner-up at Sandown in early August and may have a say in the finish too.

Lots with chances but PRAIRIE FALCON is taken to build on his promising recent Thirsk third and get off the mark for the season here. C&D winner Persuasion is feared most under a 5 lb penalty for his Thirsk victory, although Street Kid, Metabolt and Siam Fox need factoring in too.

The Michael Dods-trained DIAMONDONTHEHILL (nap) has been better than ever and is the pick ahead of stablemate Prairie Falcon.

15:50 Down Royal Maiden 5f Race Speed Rating Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.

ASHWIYAA may have done too much in the blinkers when weakening to finish last in a Listed event at the Curragh last time out, and a breakthrough success could be on the cards now returned to maiden company. Grand City Hall ran well when third in a 23-runner maiden at the County Kildare track and should give the selection plenty to think about, along with Back Down Under, who may appreciate the return to 5f.

Having shaped well in maidens at Naas and the Curragh, GRAND CITY HALL looks the way to go here with improvement likely now that he drops to the minimum trip. Indeed, he showed plenty of dash when third over 6f last time. Ashwiyaa found listed company too much last time but is a major player now back in calmer waters. Clonmacash is also respected on the strength of his close third over this C&D in June.

15:55 Newcastle Handicap (Class 5) 7f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

KATS BOB finished a solid second off a mark of 68 at Ayr last month and may be able to capitalise off a 4lb lower mark now reverting to the all-weather. Secret Road offered more encouragement on his second appearance for Tristan Davidson when seventh at Redcar recently and he shouldn't be discounted, with a 2lb drop in the ratings likely to help. Caribbean Sunset also makes some appeal now tried over 7f for the first time.

KATS BOB can race off a 4 lb lower mark than when a good recent Ayr second so looks the way to go. Secret Road is weighted to have a say if on his A-game so needs considering along with course winner.Caribbean Sunset.

Neither Burning The Bails nor PEMBROKESHIRE are solid options but there are grounds for expecting better from them today.

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.

EFFERNOCK FIZZ is set to make her 20th start of the year here but the admirable mare has been in fine form recently and can grab another deserved victory. She has been runner-up on her last couple of outings over fences, chasing home a couple of decent sorts in Visionarian and Joyeux Machin. This looks a bit easier off a slightly lower mark over timber. Previous course winner The Big Chap returns from a short break and looks a danger. He benefitted for dropping back to this trip when winning at Sligo in July. As Tears Go By ran too bad to be true at Ballinrobe when last seen in late July and if she can get back to the form which saw her win her previous two races she'd be a big player.

THE BIG CHAP wasted little time getting back on the up when scoring at Sligo in July and a 7 lb rise may not be enough to prevent the follow up. Tom McGreevy isn't the most reliable of customers but would have a big chance if backing up his latest run at Tramore, while youngster As Tears Go By shouldn't be written off.

It is hard to have a strong opinion on this but the hardy EFFERNOCK FIZZ should give her backers a good run

16:10 Ascot Stakes (Class 3) 7f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

Tafreej posted a solid fourth in the Sky Bet Mile at York a fortnight ago and he is well treated at the weights. Though respected, a chance can be taken on SEA OF THIEVES. She wasn't disgraced in the Group 3 Valiant Stakes here last time and Ed Walker's filly is the least exposed, so might find further progress dropping in class. Saxon King, Out Of Shadows and Glenfinnan are others to note in what looks a fairly open heat.

TAFREEJ comes here at the top of his game and is favoured by these weights too so can resume winning ways at the chief expense of Saxon King, who is also weighted to have a say. Out of Shadows and Lyndon B are two more who merit plenty of respect.

The choice is OUT OF SHADOWS who is 2-4 since returning in April and holds Kiaraad on last month's Newmarket running.

LTO Selection:

16:20 Haydock Handicap (Class 5) 7f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

RED MAIDS justified favouritism when landing a breakthrough success at Yarmouth recently and won with enough in hand that day to suggest that a 6lb penalty isn't insurmountable. The daughter of Invincible Spirit should take all of the beating if coping with a quick turnaround. Fools And Horses, who is only 1lb higher than last month's runner-up effort at Newmarket, is also noted along with Biplane and Alseeyerthere.

RED MAIDS swept through to score in decisive fashion at Yarmouth and she's up to defying a penalty if the race doesn't come too soon. Fools And Horses also arrives on the up and appeals as the main threat ahead of Biplane.

Red Maids is much respected but FOOLS AND HORSES is another likely contender with her mildly progressive profile.

It is hard to oppose SMULLEN'S PRIDE, who put in a promising display when third on her seasonal return at Cork in June. The daughter of Exceed And Excel is a consistent performer at this level and could get off the mark here. Cross Border may prove to be the main threat based on his encouraging effort at the Curragh last month, although Roman Harry is also unexposed and should not be discounted.

A few of these arrive with question marks against them so this looks a good opportunity for form-pick SMULLEN'S PRIDE to get off the mark on the back of her good Cork third. Roman Harry and Cross Border both have better days ahead of them and can chase home the selection in that order.

16:30 Newcastle Handicap (Class 3) 8f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

DARK ENCOUNTER outran his big odds to finish a close-up fourth over 7f at York last month, which was a very encouraging first start in nursery company. The son of Dark Angel has only been raised 2lb for that display and that could prove to be a lenient decision. Gamraan is best judged on his second at Goodwood on his penultimate run and could also get involved, while Alpen Power is likely to show a lot more now that he is tackling nurseries.

DARK ENCOUNTER posted a very good fourth in a big-field York nursery last time and looks ahead of his mark despite taking a 2 lb rise. Handicap-debutant Consoling could emerge as the chief threat to Karl Burke's colt ahead of course-winner Star of Lazise.

Dark Encounter finished in front of GAMRAAN at York last time but that run isn't the one to judge the selection on.

16:37 Kilbeggan Maiden Hurdle 19f Race Speed Rating Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.

MINELLA DIAMOND is entitled to have improved a bit from the experience of his hurdling debut at Cork and may step forward here. The Beat Hollow gelding was no match for Baltic Bird that day but plugged on to finish second and this looks like a winnable opportunity now. Ideal Du Tabert didn't look totally at home on the track when third here on his last visit but he has to be respected. He has half a length to find with Rocket Spirit, who stayed on well to finish second to Killeemore Lad then. Paul Fahey's charge failed to back up that run a few weeks later when a moderate third over slightly shorter here.

IDEAL DU TABERT sets a solid standard, so he's fancied to get off the mark on his first start for a new yard. Minella Diamond seems likely to improve on last month's second at Cork, while Granville Street is an interesting newcomer to hurdling having shown fairly useful form on the Flat. Iriskana and Rocket Spirit can also figure if casting aside disappointing efforts.

MINELLA DIAMOND followed a bumper win with a solid enough second on hurdle debut last month and he is entitled to build on that here

(6) Daysofourlives 14/1, Churchill gelding who has a pretty high head carriage but produced a taking finishing effort to open his account at third attempt at Kempton last November. Only effort since (at Newmarket last month) wasn't all that encouraging, though.

(1) Major Partnership 5/1, Scored cosily at Nottingham (8.3f) in June and creditable efforts both starts since, second over C&D on latest. Should put up another solid showing but he's yet to win from a mark in the 100s.
Went close behind a stablemate over C&D latest; respected for yard that won this last year.
LTO Selection:

16:45 Ascot Handicap (Class 2) 8f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.

MAJOR PARTNERSHIP found only a well-fancied stablemate too strong over C&D in July and a similar level of performance may suffice off just 1lb higher in the ratings. Aerion Power finished a fine fourth in the Royal Hunt Cup here in June and could give the selection most to think about with Ryan Moore now back on board. Ouzo offered more encouragement when beaten just over a length at Goodwood recently and shouldn't be far away either.

MAN OF EDEN has held his form well lately and shaped better than the result on more than one occasion, so a chance is taken on him in the hope that everything drops right. Bluelight Bay also arrives at the top of his game and Major Partner deserves plenty of respect for all that he's a lot more exposed than the aforementioned pair.

The vote goes to MAJOR PARTNERSHIP, who went close in a C&D handicap last time and represents a yard that won this last year.

LTO Selection:

16:55 Haydock Handicap (Class 5) 14f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

The majority of these appear to be on stiff enough marks, with CAN CAN GIRL looking the most solid proposition. Tim Easterby's mare has posted several creditable efforts in defeat of late and a similar level of performance may prove good enough to succeed in this contest. Alshadhian and Double Oban lurk at the foot of the weights and should keep the selection honest. The former could improve now upped to 1m6f and is feared most.

Easy enough to make cases for the majority of these and the suggestion is ALPINE STROLL, who has done most of his racing at a slightly higher level this season and will have a serious chance if bouncing back from a low-key display at Sandown. Can Can Girl has been threatening to come good for her new yard and is feared most, while Sharp Distinction remains of interest. Double Oban needs considering, too, on the back of a solid effort on the all-weather.

Ralph Beckett's ALSHADHIAN failed to justify favouritism on his 1m4f AW handicap debut but might be worth another chance back on turf.

17:00 Down Royal Maiden 7f Race Speed Rating Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.

BRIGHT STRIPES improved to finish third over 6f on his latest outing at Naas and the son of Starspangledbanner could progress further for the step up in distance. The main threat looks to be Sli Na Ghealai, who has hit the frame the last twice at Tipperary and she is likely to have a say. Of the remainder, newcomer Volto Di Medusa makes the most appeal, especially if he attracts any market support.

This represents a good opportunity for BRIGHT STRIPES to make it third time lucky. He duly stepped up on his debut form when a close third in a valuable, big-field sales race over 6f at Naas, leaving the strong impression that he would improve for the step up to this trip. Newcomer Volto Di Medusa is not short of appeal on paper and could be the one to follow Bright Stripes home, with Sli Na Ghealai taken to collect more minor place money.

LTO Selection:

17:05 Newcastle Stakes (Class 4) 6f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

APOCALYX shaped with plenty of promise when second behind a subsequent winner on debut at Thirsk and he should progress a great deal from that. Trefor struck at Windsor on his second start by a short head, but he has a 6lb penalty to carry and that will make life tougher for him. Of the remainder, The Liegeman makes the most appeal after his sixth at Bath.

APOCALYX showed plenty when runner-up on debut and with average improvement he should be able to go one better. Trefor carries a penalty for his recent Windsor success but he's the main danger with the scope for further progress. Appellant can get involved if back to the sort of form he showed on debut.

Pianoforte and APOCALYX are open to considerable improvement and Richard Fahey's colt is marginally preferred.

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.

SECOND SUBALTERN was the subject of a major gamble on his last visit here in early June and may be worth following on his return. He could only finish fifth to Wrecking Ball Paul then but this looks like a weaker race now. It's also looks significant that the seven-year-old takes a big step up in trip now and a hood is fitted for the first time. Tango Theatre was moving into contention when brought down at Wexford last month. The Shirocco mare had been knocking on the door with a couple of placed efforts previously and looks like a leading player now. Cathys Quest ran a solid race when fourth at Killarney last time and off the same mark she could be place material.

TANGO THEATRE has been in excellent form lately and was still going well when brought down at Wexford last time, so she's worth a chance to belatedly open her account. Cathys Quest looks a danger and Native Song would warrant consideration if the market vibes were right.

TANGO THEATRE (nap) has been running well in defeat, including when brought down latest and she's more consistent than most of these

LTO Selection:

17:20 Ascot Handicap (Class 4) 7f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

The consistent Kimnkate looks sure to go well after her most recent second at Newmarket, as she has been raised just 2lb for that display. However, the vote goes to HARRY MAGNUS, who likes to be held up and he could have this race run to suit. In addition, he sports a first-time hood, which could eke out improvement, so he looks worth chancing under Jim Crowley. Any market support for Liberty on her handicap bow would be interesting.

Several of these are shortlisted, with GULMARG marginally the pick. He quickly bounced back from an uncharacteristic poor effort at Newmarket in June when just edged out at Kempton and a reproduction of that would give him every chance. De Bruyne's turn is surely near and he is second choice ahead of Pastiche, who remains of interest despite rather fluffing her lines last time out. The consistent Kimnkate also has claims and Metahorse is another to consider in a competitive heat.

Preference is for the unexposed PASTICHE (nap) who is 2-2 over 7f and had excuses for her lesser effort over 1m at Newmarket last time.

17:30 Down Royal Handicap 7f Race Speed Rating Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.

There were plenty of positives to be taken from VELVET SKIES' fifth-placed finish on his nursery debut at the Curragh recently, and the combination of a return to 7f and 6lb lower mark gives the Buratino gelding leading claims. Poppadom should also enjoy the stiffer test of stamina and is dangerous to discount on his first appearance since a gelding operation, while Hasshoffman is bred to be a lot better than his opening mark of 62.

Though VELVET SKIES failed to progress when fifth of 11 on his first run in a nursery at the Curragh, that was a respectable effort nonetheless, particularly bearing in mind that he was 4 lb 'wrong' at the weights. Able to race off his correct mark here and likely to benefit from the return to this trip, he could be the answer. Expecto wasn't disgraced at Killarney last time and may emerge as the main danger ahead of Poppadom.

LTO Selection:

17:40 Newcastle Stakes (Class 5) 6f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Love Lies won on only her second outing at Ayr last month but she could find it tough to give a 7lb penalty to the James Fanshawe-trained THUNDER PRINCESS. The daughter of Night Of Thunder finished third over 7f at Doncaster, which was a pleasing debut and she could improve to strike now down in trip. Charencey could also go well after his Chepstow third.

THUNDER PRINCESS shaped with plenty of promise when third at Doncaster on debut and, with improvement on the cards, she can get the better of Love Lies, who has a penalty to contend with. The rest have something to find, so it's likely to develop into a match.

A good chance this will develop into a straight fight between THUNDER PRINCESS and Love Lies, with the former narrowly preferred.

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.

FRAZEL EXPRESS has been in decent form recently at the age of 11 and the Yeats mare may be able to add another win to her CV. She ran a solid race when fourth here over two-miles-three a fortnight ago and this step up in trip again should suit. Moyvilla Lass stayed on to finish fourth at Sligo on her most recent outing and is another who may benefit from going over three miles now. Black Barrel outran his odds when fourth over even further than this at Sligo last time. He looks like another one for the shortlist in a moderate enough affair.

Having showed more than previously at Wexford in May, DOYEN FOR A DRINK was best excused the run when down the field at Punchestown a month later. Less exposed than most and remaining with potential, she could be worth siding with to come out on top following 3 months off. Market support behind Man of The House would look interesting and he's feared, with Black Barrel and Moyvilla Lass others fancied to be in the mix.

There has been some promise in the recent runs of FRAZEL EXPRESS and she should relish a step back up in trip here

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

DUE CONSIDERATION pulled 11 lengths clear of the third when a narrow second over a mile on his nursery bow at Musselburgh. The son of Due Diligence is very hard to oppose off the same mark here. Mbappe is an interesting contender on his first start in a nursery and any market confidence should be noted, while Irrelevant could improve for first-time blinkers and is another to note.

DUE CONSIDERATION took a step forward when runner-up on his nursery debut at Musselburgh 10 days ago and a reproduction of that form could be good enough to see him go one better in a weak affair. Irrelevant improved a shade when fourth on his most recent outing at Chepstow and has place claims, along with Mbappe, who may build on his earlier promise now handicapping.

The one that stands out is DUE CONSIDERATION, who went very close on his nursery debut last week and is on the same mark here.

18:05 Down Royal Handicap 18f Race Speed Rating Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.

BARNACULLIA (second) had Crassus (third) in behind at Bellewstown last time and the son of Ocovango has few miles on the clock in this sphere. The six-year-old is fancied to confirm that form en route to victory here. Rich Belief hit the frame in this 12 months ago and is interesting from a competitive mark, while No Thanks must be of interest with Frankie Dettori booked to ride. Others to note include Pretty Soldier and Curious Bride.

Lots with chances. BARNACULLIA arrives on the up and is fancied to go one better than his recent Bellewstown second with the winner having gone in again. Rich Belief rates the main danger on the back of his good Killarney fourth with both Crassus and Curious Bride well in the mix too.

Second over 2m1f at Bellewstown, BARNACULLIA holds a couple of these rivals on that form and should go close over a trip he'll relish

18:10 Newcastle Handicap (Class 6) 8f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

GLOBAL TYCOON made a highly encouraging start for Joseph Parr when third at Windsor and he was kindly dropped 1lb for that outing, which now puts him below his last winning mark. The four-year-old ran well at this track over 7f on his penultimate run and he ought to go very close. Copper Mountain was a respectable fifth at Musselburgh last time and she goes off the same mark, while Rum Runner is another to consider in his current form.

In a wide-open looking handicap, GLOBAL TYCOON could prove to be the answer. The 4-y-o is 1 lb below the mark off which he opened his account at Kempton last year and has shaped as though his turn is again near in two starts for John Butler and, most recently at Windsor, on debut for this yard. Mr Strutter and Royal Prospect are feared most.

In an open finale, C&D winner RUM RUNNER has been in good form of late and looks as solid as any.

18:20 Kilbeggan Maiden Chase 19f Race Speed Rating Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.

NOTTODAYBOBO benefitted from the fitting of first-time tongue-tie when getting off the mark over hurdles here last month and connections have decided not to hang around over the smaller obstacles. From a good jumping family, the Flemensfirth gelding might be able to make a winning debut over fences. Smart Flat stayer Dutch Schultz gained his first win over hurdles at Wexford last month and it will be interesting to see how Gavin Cromwell's six-year-old takes to jumping fences. Natural Look has shown progressive form in handicap hurdles over the last 12 months and was second here in July. Her chase debut third at Tramore was creditable given that her rider was inconvenienced by a slipping saddle.

NOTTODAYBOBO stepped up on his previous hurdles exploits when opening his account in maiden company here 2 weeks ago and, with potential for better still now tackling larger obstacles, he shades the vote to come out on top for his powerful stable. Fellow recent hurdles scorer Dutch Schultz and Natural Look are others to consider. Typical Thomas is another not out of things with a repeat of his latest Downpatrick second.

OTTODAYBOBO\p might be more of a chasing prospect than Dutch Schultz and how the market assesses them will be intriguing

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

FIRE DEMON took a big step forward when hitting the crossbar at Newbury last time following his underwhelming debut effort. The son of Dark Angel should have plenty more improvement to come, which is likely to see him on the premises again. The 325,000gns purchase King Of Luck didn't live up to his price tag on his first outing, when seventh at Newbury, but he should have learned a lot from that experience and could put up a much more bold showing. Farizio would be of interest if the market speaks in his favour.

FIRE DEMON was much improved from his debut and impressed with how he went through the race when runner-up in a Newbury maiden 3 weeks ago. With further progress likely, he looks the one to beat. Allegorical, despite a wide draw, and Khisah Bu Thaila head up the dangers, with King of Luck and Piloto Pardo another couple likely to do better.

18:40 Down Royal Handicap 10f Race Speed Rating Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.

In a wide-open event marginal preference is for GOD KNOWS, who was not beaten far on her handicap bow in a competitive event at the Curragh last month. Off a 2lb lower mark, the four-year-old could be very hard to stop here. That said, Evening's Empire is an obvious threat following her narrow defeat over 1m 5f at this venue last time. Others to include on the shortlist are Who Not What, Neverfindanother U and Barrys Rock.

NEVERFINDANOTHER U figures on an attractive mark so looks the way to go if, as expected, building on her recent Naas fifth after a lay-off. Good Curragh fifth Giselles Defence is next on the list ahead of in-form pair Slaney Tide and Evening's Empire.

With a nice draw to work with and a recent comeback run under her belt, NEVERFINDANOTHERU is taken to resume progress

LTO Selection:

18:50 Kilbeggan Handicap Chase 19f Race Speed Rating Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.

ROTTEN ROW is a course winner over hurdles and got off the mark over fences in a novice contest at Tramore last month. Turned out again under a penalty at the same track three days later, his jumping let him down in the closing stages when finishing fourth in a handicap over a longer trip and dropping back a couple of furlongs may help his cause. Paken's Rock was well held at Galway but won his previous two starts over C&D and has to be respected on his return to this venue. Irish Blaze took full advantage when Top Line Tommy, in front by a couple of lengths at the time, came down at the final fence at Downpatrick. Raised 5lb for that success, Gordon Elliott's charge will be suited by this longer trip. Top Line Tommy, a winner at Tramore earlier in the summer, has to be on the shortlist but will need to brush up his jumping.

TOP LINE TOMMY is hardly prolific, but having opened his account over fences at Tramore in June, he looked set to go in again before falling at the last (race won by re-opposing Irish Blaze) at Downpatrick 11 days ago. He shades the vote in the hope his jumping holds up, with Irish Blaze and Pakens Rock, who has scored twice here already this summer, heading up the dangers.

A trappy race but ROTTEN ROW seems pretty bullet-proof, especially with pace in the race seemingly assured. Pakens Rock is feared

19:00 Kempton Stakes (Class 4) 8f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

LAMBERT was a four-length victor at Yarmouth last time, which made it two wins from three starts, and the gelding can defy his 7lb penalty and continue his rapid progression. The main danger might be Dunstan, who shaped well when fifth on debut over 7f at this track and should improve for the step up in trip, while Hebridean Nomad warrants a market check.

LAMBERT is thriving and produced a dominant display at Yarmouth last time. He can complete the hat-trick. Dunstan looks a danger, while Battle of Omdurman is an interesting newcomer.

It's hard to see beyond LAMBERT, who bids to complete a hat-trick after two emphatic 7f wins.

LTO Selection:

19:10 Down Royal Handicap 13f Race Speed Rating Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.

Texas Sun struck over an extended 1m2f at Sligo on his latest outing and he looks an interesting contender as he steps up to this distance for the first time. However, preference is for CHARLIE DARLING, who outran big odds to score at Navan by half a length recently and he looks sure to go very close once more off a 3lb higher mark. Theresathought has run well enough this year to suggest that she could grab a place in this contest.

TEXAS SUN looked a reasonable prospect on his first couple of starts for Ger Lyons last season and, having got his career back on track since joining his current stable, he's worth a chance to defy a mark of 64 on his first go in handicaps. Estepona Sun and Charlie Darling could emerge as the main dangers.

He's nowhere near as effective on the Flat as over hurdles but maybe a race of this nature is within the compass of FUTURUM REGEM

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.

TOPGUN SIMMY was placed on debut at Naas in February when in the care of Ray Cody and has again run well in both starts for current connections. Runner-up in a valuable sales contest at Fairyhouse over Easter, he wasn't beaten far when third at the Galway festival when tried in a tongue-tie which is now left off. His dam stayed well and he may be suited by this step up in trip. Longview Lady found one too good when a short-priced favourite at Killarney in July and gave the impression that she would appreciate a longer trip. Meet My Loreley was runner-up to a smart type at Thurles last winter and may improve from last month's odds-on defeat at Wexford which was her first start for Barry Connell. Workinonadream and Day's A Dawning are newcomers to note from powerful yards.

LONGVIEW LADY was a warm order in the betting prior to making an encouraging start at Killarney and she could find enough improvement to get the better of the likes of Topgun Simmy and Meet My Loreley, who have both achieved a bit more than the selection. Day's A Dawning is the clear pick of the newcomers.

110,000euros yearling; plenty to like on paper and she needs watching in market on debut.
LTO Selection:

19:30 Kempton Maiden (Class 3) 8f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

Copy Artist holds every chance on these terms but, having been turned over at prohibitive odds in a similar contest at Haydock last time, she might be worth taking on. Ludmilla and Ivory Madonna have been equally as frustrating but are more than capable should things fall right for them, although BECCARA ROSE edges the vote. Charlie Fellowes' filly has shown a good level of form in handicap and, returned to maiden company, the daughter of Sea The Stars can strike.

VENUS ROSEWATER has a really useful pedigree and was worn down late after hitting the front at Wolverhampton last time. With further progress anticipated, she narrowly gets the nod over the impeccably-bred newcomer Doha, both of whom's parents won an Arc. Juddmonte-pair Copy Artist and Ludmilla both have fairly useful handicap form to their name and merit respect back in maiden company.

20:00 Kempton Handicap (Class 5) 6f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

BILL PLUMB bounced back to record a third success from his last four starts when winning at Wolverhampton in July. Phil McEntee's gelding is only 3lb higher now and he is fancied to continue in his ascendency. Change Sings fared best of those who forced a strong gallop at Newbury 10 days ago and he looks to hold a live chance form an unchanged mark. Belle Fourche is another to consider.

CHANGE SINGS comes here on the up and can also boast a course success so looks the way to go in a competitive handicap. C&D winner Lilkian is next on the list with fellow C&D scorers Bill Plumb and Mighty Gurkha also very much in the picture.

Top of the list is the lightly raced 3yo CHANGE SINGS who won here last month and is open to more progress on this switch to sprinting.

20:30 Kempton Handicap (Class 5) 12f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

STUDY THE STARS struck by just under three lengths over C&D when last seen in October and he returns to the fray off a 4lb higher mark. If the five-year-old is ready to go, he could be the one to beat on his return. Last-time-out winner Prosecco has to be respected as she is only 4lb higher for her Sandown success and is unexposed at this distance. Intergalacticat finished first past the post but was placed second over 1m3f here last time and should go well again.

MEDIEVAL GOLD improved for the step up to this distance when runner-up at Newbury 10 days ago and, with the scope for better still, he's preferred to Intergalacticat, who was first past the post (subsequently demoted) here last time. Prosecco is another one to consider.

LTO Selection:

21:00 Kempton Handicap (Class 6) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

A tentative vote goes to TEAM ENDEAVOUR, who hit the frame over this distance at Lingfield last time and he is off the same mark here. The son of Bated Breath has Richard Kingscote taking over in the saddle and he ought to go close. Sophar Sogood was a close-up third over C&D last month and is likely to be on the premises off a 2lb higher rating, while Hourless returns to the handicap ranks and has to be respected.

On the face of it HOURLESS has a fair bit to find with some of these based on achievements in this sphere, but there's a good chance that this hurdles winner will improve now faced with a stiffer test and, armed with a handy 3-y-o allowance, he earns the vote. Liberated Lad is clear second choice and isn't passed over lightly on the back of a couple of solid efforts, while Imperial Cult and Sophar Sogood also enter calculations.

An open race in which SOPHAR SOGOOD gets the vote ahead of the versatile 5yo Liberated Lad and Alan King's Hourless.

Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.

The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.

Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
