Third over course and distance last month, STARRED has leading claims of registering an initial success. Beaten a length in that aforementioned race, the Joseph O'Brien-trained colt showed huge improvement from his debut effort. Granted another step forward on this latest appearance, the son of Starspangledbanner has to be the one to beat. Having also reached the frame last month, the Michael Grassick-trained Port Arthur looks a serious threat. Given that the Australia gelding was making his debut on that occasion, he could be open to a lot more improvement on this second start. Newcomer Silk Braid is one that should be noted in the betting market.

TELLHERTHENAME faced a number of stiff tasks over timber last season but, if taking to fences, this could be a fine opportunity. The son of Malinas is weighted to go well on these terms and gets the vote, but so is Push The Button, who struggled in a warm handicap hurdle at Sandown when last seen in April. Ruby Island receives weight from the boys and is by no means out of this herself.

The lightly raced point and two-time hurdle winner TELLHERTHENAME has a good record when fresh and is the selection.

IMPERIAL MEASURE caught the eye when staying on into third at Newton Abbot last month. He's likely to appreciate a step up to 3m, and he can strike for the first time over fences. Mini Fortune showed more when third at Uttoxeter recently and she could go well, whilst Radharc Na Slaine, who couldn't land a blow at Worcester latest, is better judged on his earlier Stratford success.

QUALIMITA has largely disappointed since being picked up for 500,000 euros, following a point-to-point success in 2023. She has shown ability, though, and can get off the mark on her seasonal return. A 30-length winner of her point, she has been overturned three times as an odds-on favourite subsequently. However, she has twice been placed at Listed level and was unlucky when falling at Tramore in April. The in-from Run For Mahler is consistent and should benefit from her recent hurdling debut at Listowel, so she ought to figure despite having to shoulder a penalty. Cailin Deas has useful bumper form in the book and enters calculations, while Stepdance is also noted.

Expensive point purchase QUALIMITA is proving similarly costly to follow, but is given the nod to get her first rules victory

This can go the way of PEROLA, who is open to any amount of improvement after a promising effort on debut at Kempton, where he was slightly unlucky not to score after being hampered at a crucial stage. Dropping back in trip looks like a good move for Boss Lady, having finished runner-up twice over 6f, while newcomer Havana Jag is one to monitor for market support with Sean Levey booked.

The biggest form contenders are thrice-raced Boss Lady and once-raced PEROLA, while Afton Down is interesting.

A three-timer winner over 5f, the Denis Hogan-trained filly has yet to fully convince that she has the stamina required for further. However, her breeding suggests that the daughter of Magna Grecia is worth another chance to prove that she stays. A beaten favourite over course and distance earlier this month, Jon Riggens is fitted with a first-time visor now. If that headgear has the desired effect, the gelding will be very competitive. Point-to-point winner Cave Bridge makes his debut under Rules and is one of the more appealing candidates, but DRIVER'S PICK is preferred. The son of Too Darn Hot showed ability on the Flat when trained in France but disappointed on his stable bow at Ripon latest. A switch to hurdles could be beneficial, though, and it would come as no great surprise were he to find the necessary progress. Ryebridge can chase that pair home.

Point winner CAVE BRIDGE has joined a good stable for his rules career and can make a winning start in this sphere.

Picked up by the David Pipe stable having filled the runner-up spot over 2m6f at Downpatrick in July, this could be the perfect opportunity for ORDER OF THE DANCE. Forest Spirit has yet to show much since joining the Mickey Bowen yard, but she now enters handicaps and must be of interest, along with No Guarantee and The Longest Day, who returned from a long absence to finish a creditable third at Newton Abbot last month.

Back up in trip and with cheekpieces refitted, THE LONGEST DAY may build upon last month's pleasing reappearance run.

WING BACK landed a gamble to win at Downpatrick in August and as he remains open to improvement, he should be competitive. He wasn't beaten far at that same course later in the month, before falling at Clonmel recently. Being just a five-year-old, he might continue to progress and forecast ground conditions should suit. Courtbrack Boy ran well on his handicap debut at Listowel last month and can also progress. Bite That found improvement over fences last season, but has won just once from 24 previous hurdle runs.

C&D winner MARY SHOELACES has plenty in her favour. Well drawn, just one off the stands rail, the Eddie and Patrick Harty-trained filly has the services of an in-form apprentice. A four-year-old daughter of U S Navy Flag, the selection ran well under Jessica O'Gorman when fourth here on her penultimate start. She is readily forgiven a below par run at Navan subsequently, as that track would have tested her stamina limitations. Nouvel Espoir is fairly handicapped at present. A winner off this mark last August, the gelding has been in decent form of late. Steel Magnolia is another with strong claims in a competitive affair.

An open race. The vote goes to NOUVEL ESPOIR, whose Navan second makes good reading.

ALMAZHAR GARDE has hit a rich vein of form of late, and his race fitness can tell in a contest of this nature. A 3lb rise for his most recent success at Worcester could prove lenient, and he is likely to have too much for the returning Your Own Story, who was runner-up at a higher level on his penultimate start at Kelso. A creditable third on each of his last two outings, Presentandcounting is entitled to be thereabouts as well.

Dare To Shout is respected but preference is for the resurgent 10yo ALMAZHAR GARDE, who has won at Worcester on his last two starts.

AT THE OCHE showed good potential when landing a bumper on his racecourse bow at Doncaster in March. The son of Ocovango struggled in a higher grade at Newbury thereafter, having raced too freely. However, he got back on track with a creditable second on his debut over hurdles at Newton Abbot last month and is the pick of this bunch. Evan Williams' hurdling newcomers Elusive Knight and Minella Mania are other notable options.

Recent Newton Abbot runner-up AT THE OCHE sets a fair standard of hurdling form and looks the one to beat.

The Johnny Murtagh-trained RETRACEMENT can register a first Irish success. A maiden winner for previous connections when trained in England, the four-year-old has shown definite promise since arriving in this country. With his two best runs to date coming over this course and distance, the son of Australia has bright prospects of making the breakthrough under Ben Coen. The lightly raced In My Teens takes a step up in class here but has to be respected. The Gavin Cromwell-trained Camelot filly could have scope for improvement off her current rating. Stablemate Fiver Friday is also worthy of consideration on her first start for Cromwell.

Just denied in a Roscommon conditions race last time when bumped by the winner, IN MY TEENS surely has more to offer.

A consistent sort throughout last season, BORN IN THE WEST wasn't beaten far on his two latest outings over further and dropping back in trip could suit ideally on his return. A mark of 105 still looks manageable and he is narrowly preferred to Looking Splendid, who is due to go up 3lb after this having scored comfortably at Kelso earlier in the month. Hexham runner-up Longstone Cowboy and Kuzco are capable of being in the shake-up as well.

Topweight BORN IN THE WEST ran well in defeat in two strong races at the end of last season and is taken to make a winning return.

TURPIN GOLD has won three of his last six starts and with the trip and forecast ground sure to suit, he is readily suggested as the most dependable option. A three-time course-and-distance winner, Gavin has been running well in defeat of late and from a competitive mark, it would be dangerous to underestimate him. Baikal is versatile regarding distance and he could also be a key player from the foot of the handicap.

Topweight TURPIN GOLD has done very well for his new stable this season and may still have more improvement to come.

Race conditions ought to suit ADDITIONAL TIME, who might return to form in this weak contest. Placed on his pointing debut before easily defeating a subsequent hurdles winner at Punchestown in February 2024, he was later sold for 160,000 pounds. He was absent for 464 days prior to making his first start under Rules at Listowel in June, where he hung badly left. His latest Wexford performance was more encouraging, though, and connections will be hopeful he can build on that effort. Heron's Butler was still in contention when unseating two out at Clonmel recently and while more reliable than the selection, it is possible he lacks the same ability. Point-to-point-placed Tsavo Park was well held at Fontwell last month.

Only for a fall at the second last at Clonmel HERONS BUTLER wouldn't be eligible for this race and that run gives him a top chance

NOBLE JOURNEY just about sets the standard with his debut fourth over 1m at Newmarket and, bred to appreciate this step up in trip (dam Group 1 winner over 1m4f), he rates the one to beat. Arouse and Devil's Brigade probably ran to a similar level first time out and both could step forward to land a blow. However, newcomer Sea And Sun might prove the biggest threat making the trip down from North Yorkshire.

While Devil's Brigade and Arouse also showed significant form first time out, it was NOBLE JOURNEY who most looked the part.

BIRTHDAY ANGEL had something in hand when he won over this C&D last week and is a logical option turned out under a 5lb penalty. This is a slightly stiffer test but the son of Dark Angel is still unexposed on turf (on the Flat) and can be competitive again. Mc'ted is also penalised for a ready success at Wolverhampton and can play another prominent role back on the grass. Fighting Poet and Shabu Shabu also warrant betting checks.

Runner-up over 10 furlongs here last month, PORTNAHAPPLE can go one place better. Having stayed on strongly to take minor honours on that occasion, the son of Masar should appreciate stepping up in trip on this second career start. With an official rating of 80, the Jessica Harrington-trained Carthusian sets the standard. Fifth here on his most recent start, the Lope De Vega gelding should be good enough to break his maiden at some point. Kilcrea Rock is another that has shown enough to suggest that he is capable of winning races.

HELLO JUDGE counts the 2023 renewal of this race among his four previous course wins and his affinity with this venue makes the consistent nine-year-old a highly tempting proposition once again. Realisation is of low-mileage as a chaser and is a noteworthy danger to the selection on his first start after wind surgery. Forged Well also boasts a course win (over hurdles) to his name and he could be a better alternative than Busty Boy, whose sole win over regulation fences came over further.

The 5yo ALSHADHIAN (nap) has made a promising start to his chasing career this season and gets the nod ahead of Realisation.

A convincing winner over 2m4f at Sedgefield last week, ISLE OF SARK has adapted well since switching to the in-form Mickey Bowen yard and a 7lb penalty might not prevent the seven-year-old from going in again. Wolfspear rates the chief danger having posted a good second on his seasonal reappearance at Uttoxeter last month. Balkardy has winning form here and could also be on the premises, with a return to three miles unlikely to be an issue.

On just his second start for Mickey Bowen, ISLE OF SARK did very well to reel in an in-form rival at Sedgefield last week.

HEWICK has multiplied his initial 850-euro purchase price by a thousand times and more to achieve 888,000 euros in career earnings, and has perfect conditions for today's seasonal return. Winner of the 2023 King George, he has bagged many big-race wins in a stellar career and, while well beaten in both the Grand National and at Auteuil last May, he had earlier scored over 2m6f here in March. He relishes good ground and, with his riders' 7lb claim, has bottom weight. In-form Run For Oscar has a big fitness edge and is suited by conditions, but has plenty to find with Hewick. Moon D'Orange won a Grade 3 Cheltenham chase last January but should struggle to score here.

MAD UNICORN edged out Redditizio on just her second handicap start at Wolverhampton five days ago and, with the promise of more to come, she is fancied to follow up under a 6lb penalty. The latter is officially 2lb well-in and looks the main danger, although neither American Flight or Go Lockers Go should be underestimated as they step into handicap company for the first time.

Mad Unicorn is of obvious interest but the two well-bred nursery newcomers American Flight and GO LOCKERS GO can fight it out.

FAR ECLIPSE is a lightly-raced three-year-old who has shown a bit of improvement lately. He was just behind Earthsong when fourth over this trip at Navan and was only beaten a length when filling the same position at Galway latest. He should have more to offer and gets a tentative vote. Grann's Boy must shoulder a 7lb penalty having gotten up close home to win over 2m at Thurles recently. He still looks well treated relative to his hurdles mark and will enjoy this stiffer track. Whats New blotted his copybook over hurdles last time but the form of his 1m4f win at Roscommon has been well advertised since and he has to enter calculations.

Plenty with chances but there could be more improvement to come from EARTHSONG on just her second handicap start

Yoshimi showed more when finishing fourth at Leicester in August and could have a say off the same rating. However, CAPTAIN PARMA took a big leap forward after being gelded to fill the runner-up spot in this grade at Chelmsford earlier in the month and is just 2lb higher. The son of Iffraaj makes just his third start in a handicap and will prove tough to beat. Highland Olly is another to keep an eye on.

The pint-sized selection's prior form had been ordinary but, while penalised 10lb for winning, she had been rated 87 only last May. Today's 7lb claimer gives her a weight-edge over Great Bird, who is penalised 4lb. Cathys Quest returned with blood at both nostrils following her blundering exit at Listowel last month and if she returns to Ballinrobe form in July, when she finished ahead of today's selection, she would play a big part. DAGODA can go well at a price in this big-field affair. A dual course winner in 2023, the Jenny Lynch-trained mare hasn't got her head in front since but has run well several times when returning to the Curragh, including when not beaten far over 6f in June. She has dropped to a dangerous mark and will enjoy an ease in the ground. Skippinandajumpin finished second to a progressive rival at Killarney recently. She's unexposed and should be competitive off a 3lb higher mark. Tofino won over 1m here in August and has been placed twice in three subsequent starts. Mogwli probably wants further these days, while Sonoma Sunset is a handicap debutant to note.

Having run well in handicaps over 6f and 8f, this trip might be optimum for SKIPPINANDAJUMPIN.

King's Trust took a step in the wrong direction when failing to justify favouritism and finishing third at Goodwood, but he has been gelded since and sports first-time blinkers. Even so, WE'RE GOOSERS looks the way to go. Hugo Palmer's juvenile was touched off into second on his introduction at Newmarket and would have learnt a great deal from that experience. With normal improvement, he could be the one to beat. Any market confidence behind newcomer Extraterrestrial would be interesting.

GET IT GIRL is from a very successful family and can make a winning debut. The Jukebox Jury mare is related to six bumper winners, including smart performers Blackstairmountain and Mt Leinster, and starts off in what appears a very winnable contest. The fitting of a tongue-tie is a slight concern but not enough to make her opposable. Long Goodbye represents a trainer who is well capable of winning bumpers with debutants and the Motivator gelding is a half-brother to a 1m4f winner in France. Press The Button showed only a hint of ability in two point-to-points but is out of a Listed bumper winner and merits respect on his first start under Rules.

This looks a weak bumper and GET IT GIRL won't have to be too much out of the ordinary to make a winning debut

Not seen since August 2024 when runner-up at Newmarket, EVENING SAIGON has been gelded in the interim and this appeals as an ideal opportunity to strike on his handicap debut. A mark of 85 could prove lenient and it may be the experienced The Thames Boatman who gives him the most to think about following a creditable runner-up effort over shorter at Lingfield last month. Inishfallen and Mesaafi may also have a say.

The Thames Boatman should be involved, but MESAAFI ran well from a wide draw last time and his C&D win in June was impressive.

Bushwacker brings plenty of experience to the table and if running to the level of his second at Carlisle two starts ago, he is likely to be on the premises. Rogue Citation showed ability when third at Carlisle on her first start and is noted, but STARLIT CITY gets the vote. Ollie Sangster's youngster ran green when making the frame on debut at Windsor in August and would have benefitted from that experience. This looks a winnable opportunity and he can take full advantage.

There was plenty to like about ROGUE CITAATION's debut third at Carlisle and this looks a decent chance for her.

A winner here over 1m in August, GIANT looked to be finding his way back to that form when runner-up over C&D last week, and he is taken to go one better off an unchanged mark. Mister Mojito has strong claims if bouncing back to the form of his penultimate effort over track and trip when third, while Revolutionise had been in consistent form before a mediocre run at Kempton most recently.

Preference is for GIANT (nap) who is 2-3 at this track and was runner-up behind a major improver over C&D last week.

The Oliver Cole stable can do little wrong at present and this represents an ideal opportunity for JAKARTA to regain the winning thread after narrowly missing out at Newmarket last month. A winner at Chelmsford when last seen in May, True Colors is of interest off a mark of 74 on her handicap debut, while Summer Heat should be suited by dropping back to 1m having shown plenty of pace over further last time.

With the William Haggas stable continuing in excellent form it might be worth giving a final chance to PURPLE RAINBOW.

Now that JAZZ SCENE has regained the winning thread after a determined performance here last month, the four-year-old is likely to have plenty more to come off 2lb higher, with Cieren Fallon a notable jockey booking. Runner-up over the same track and trip recently, after scoring at Redcar before that, Fire Eyes is likely to be thereabouts once again, while Wolverhampton winner Have You A Minute also holds claims cutting back in distance.

A confident vote goes to MORTE POINT, whose Newbury triumph is sandwiched in between two fine runner-up efforts. The son of Due Diligence undoubtedly has much less to prove than some of his rivals and the progressive gelding is preferred to Arctic Grey, who receives a welcome ease in class having failed to land a blow in a class 2 at Ayr latest. The Quiet Gent is already proven on Polytrack and he didn't run too badly at Kempton last time.

Top of the list is MORTE POINT, who won at Newbury before a close second in a Class 2 event at Doncaster last month.

ATOMIC MASS bounced back to form with a strong runner-up effort here last month and, providing he's not too keen, the son of Havana Gold can strike off 2lb higher. Dropping back in trip looks like a good move for Naval Ensign after a creditable second over 7f at Yarmouth last month, while Addarella is another to note on the drop in class after being in the first three at this venue the last twice.

The Mick and David Easterby stable started the week with a bang and might be good for another winner courtesy of ATOMIC MASS.

The application of a first-time visor (retained) appeared to work the oracle for MY BOY HARRY, who struck at Kempton last Friday. Ashley Lewis negates much of the 6lb penalty courtesy of his 5lb claim and, although a wide draw is far from ideal, the three-year-old is unexposed over a mile and should have more to offer. Iftikhaar won at odds of 40/1 over C&D last month but disappointed latest and the blinkers will need to have a positive effect. Kessaar Power could be a bigger threat.

Wild Embers is interesting upped in trip but KESSAAR POWER is marginally preferred now back on AW after a recent run.

Lahire hasn't shown a great deal in his three maiden/novice starts on the Flat but could prove a different proposition now tackling the handicap ranks. However, BELAYA RIVER has finished in the frame in each of his last three outings, most recently dead-heating for second in first-time cheekpieces (retained) over track and trip last month. If the three-year-old is in similar form, he could prove hard to beat. Inlet isn't out of it either.

Although his hanging left last time is a slight concern, lightly raced 3yo BELAYA RIVER has it in him to win a race like this.

WYLD BILL has two wins from five since switching to handicaps, the latest of those over C&D. He almost added a third win to his tally at Newcastle latest but ultimately weakened into second late on having been a little keen. He's thriving at present, though, and from a handy draw he is taken to regain the winning thread. Masqool hit the frame at Wolverhampton last time and is likely to be thereabouts, while Voix De Bocelli appeals most of the remainder.

Masqool should go well but WYLD BILL is a progressive C&D winner who should have more to offer on AW.

Hickton just prevailed by a neck at Hamilton on his most recent start and if transferring that form to the all-weather, he ought to go close. However, WEEGEEBEAR accounted for Heartened (third) when springing a 25/1 surprise at Newcastle last month and the son of Kodi Bear can prove that was no fluke by following up. Aoife's Thunder is a player based on her second in a classified stakes at Chelmsford two starts ago.

This looks tricky but the ones to concentrate on may be WEEGEEBEAR, Heartened and Grizzieblanca.
