WACKESTONE failed to win in three Flat starts and was turned over as an odds-on favourite on his hurdling debut, but can benefit from that September experience. Having raced twice as a two-year-old, he finished a useful third on soft ground at Navan in April before finishing fourth over hurdles at Ballinrobe. That form is working out well and it is encouraging that Jack Kennedy rides him over smart Flat performer Barbizon, who wears a first-time tongue-tie. Glen To Glen was useful on the Flat and has form on soft ground, while Ben Hur is noted too.

SEARCOG jumped well and stayed on nicely on her hurdling debut at Fairyhouse last time and this stiffer track looks sure to suit

SWITCH FROM DIESEL makes her eagerly-awaited jumps debut, having won on the Flat recently. Almost all of her 12 bumper outings were fine efforts and having taken second in Punchestown's Grade 1 in April, she finished well to score on heavy ground at the Curragh on her reappearance. Riskabahia is a notable recruit for Rich Ricci and while her trainer has an excellent record with her sire's progeny (Allaho and Kopek Des Bordes), it is a small concern that her winning Fontainebleau form from 2023 hasn't as yet worked out. Salsinha completes the shortlist.

Riskabahia, Salsinha and Cool Native are all respected but SWITCH FROM DIESEL was a very good mare in bumpers.

Atreides has been performing with credit in defeat in recent months and another good account is forecast. However, Neil Mulholland's charge is still a maiden after 20 attempts and a 2lb higher mark for his latest second over track and trip doesn't help. Chris Gordon has his string in fine fettle at present and it may be worth chancing SUMMER IN MILAN, who is entitled to build on last month's fourth-placed return over hurdles here. C&D winner Footloose Man is also noted.

A chance is taken on TED THE THIEF, a point winner who makes his handicap and chase debut off a basement mark.

While his initial maiden hurdle performances were poor, he has run well in three handicaps and wasn't beaten far at Fairyhouse last month. St Denis's Well, who won this race in 2023, defeated the selection by 11 lengths when scoring at Down Royal last Christmas. While his recent form is poor, his rating has fallen and he goes well on testing ground. Harley Street can get involved too.

Although well beaten in a Grade 2 Aintree bumper last time, CRACKERJACQUE may have found the ground too lively. The five-year-old had previously landed a class 2 contest at Sandown in ready fashion and he looks just the sort to excel over hurdles. Sam Thomas couldn't have his string in better heart and market support for stable/hurdling debutant Alfa Charlie would be interesting, while French recruit Just Forty cannot be ruled out either.

Back down in grade, CRACKERJACQUE is the form pick. Fellow hurdles debutant Phineas Bunce is second choice.

2024 Derby runner-up Ambiente Friendly is a fascinating hurdling debutant and he must enter calculations. However, James Owen's charge does have something to prove after finishing last in the Geoffrey Freer at Newbury in August and GAELIC PRIDE is more appealing. The five-year-old finished a respectable eighth in the Grade 2 Aintree bumper in April and should have learned plenty from his second-placed hurdling bow at Fontwell last month. Hold The Serve proved a ready winner of his sole point-to-point and is also of interest on his Rules debut.

On hurdles form, GAELIC PRIDE has particularly strong claims. Hold The Serve is second choice but Ambiente Friendly also runs.

A chance is taken on KALYPSO'CHANCE, who has been frustrating. He looked quite smart when beating Heads Up in a Listed race here last December but subsequently raced keen at Cheltenham, before hanging badly at Punchestown in April. He was turned over at odds of 1/5 on his hurdling debut recently but was reported to be clinically abnormal post race. He might improve for the run. Walks In June is useful and scored nicely at Limerick last month, while Eclipse Chaser and The Big Clubman cannot be overlooked.

With three of these declared to run on Saturday, it could pay to side with WALKS IN JUNE, a well-supported maiden winner at Limerick

ZAOCHEN ENKI didn't enjoy the best of passages on his sixth-placed seasonal debut at Cheltenham last month and he should enjoy this drop in class. Any improvement could make Paul Nicholls' inmate tough to beat and a second career victory may beckon. A spin on the level is likely to have helped Officer Of State and he rates a live threat, although a bigger danger is Game Colours, who looks more progressive.

Very lightly raced 4yo ZAOCHEN ENKI (nap) shaped at Cheltenham last month as though he may well improve for that reappearance outing.

Although a little disappointing when finishing fourth in the Persian War on his return at Chepstow, QUEENSBURY BOY could excel on his chase debut. Now under the tutelage of Mickey Bowen, the six-year-old's official rating of 131 looks workable and he makes the most appeal. Having made a winning reappearance on his first crack at fences at Aintree, another bold bid is forecast from Jordans Cross. Kim Roque boasts some useful French form and cannot be dismissed lightly.

Joseph O'Brien could have the trump card with his new recruit KIM ROQUE, whose latest French chase effort reads well.

A course winner off a higher chase rating on his next start, his form tailed off back over hurdles thereafter but he handles testing ground and may be able to stage a revival off a competitive mark. Artic Lane displayed an awkward head carriage when a staying-on fourth at Galway but is of interest under a very capable conditional rider. Kir is next best.

The fact that KIR stayed 3m on his handicap debut at Limerick is a big positive given the stamina demands imposed by this track

Having got back on the winning trail to secure a fifth triumph of the season, Shantou Lucky demands the utmost respect given his upward trajectory. James Owen's charge scored with enough in hand at Plumpton recently to suggest that a 7lb rise shouldn't prevent another bold bid. However, UNANSWERED PRAYERS arrives on the back of a decent fifth in a competitive staying handicap chase at Cheltenham and he may prove slightly better treated. Ken Roy and Livin On Luco are feasible alternatives.

There could be major threats lurking but last year's winner UNANSWERED PRAYERS should put up a bold defence.

However, a further 3lb rise and deeper contest could leave the nine-year-old vulnerable. With that in mind, it could be worth chancing Irish raider ST FAZ, who shaped with promise on his latest fifth at Down Royal. Champion jockey Sean Bowen takes over in the saddle and Gordon Elliott's charge could be poised to strike. Cabhfuilfungi and 2023 winner Triple Trade are feasible alternatives.

SEARCH FOR GLORY is one of seven runners for Gordon Elliott, who has won this prestigious race three times in the last four years. The selection, who stays well and handles heavy ground, was unable to get competitive in top handicaps in the spring but has won first time out for the last three seasons. Fourth in this two years ago, Dunboyne has been rejuvenated by his current trainer and should come on from his creditable run at Cheltenham last month. Will The Wise and Sportinthepark are others to note.

ONE ISLAND was somewhat of a surprise winner on his racecourse bow when trained on the Flat in France, but he could be a useful recruit to the hurdling ranks. Paul Nicholls' stable debutant doesn't have a lofty standard to aim at today so, should he take to this new discipline, he should go close. Forever Penywern was rated 80 on the level and could be one of the leading contenders, whilst Nelson Gate should not be overlooked with his yard amongst the winners.

The hurdles form is uninspiring, so this may rest between the hurdling newcomers ONE ISLAND and Forever Penywern.

Ground conditions could get quite testing and, with that in mind, preference is for TANGANYIKA. Venetia Williams' gelding made great strides over fences in the spring, winning at Market Rasen at Carlisle before posting an excellent second in the Midlands National at Uttoxeter. He returns to action off 6lb higher but, having already won three times on heavy ground, he may well resume his progress. Classy operator Protektorat merits the utmost respect off top-weight, as does Marble Sands, who has a fitness edge after a spin on the Flat last month. Veteran Sam Brown is also noted.

All have some sort of question to answer but TANGANYIKA (nap) is a confident selection assuming that he's in a good state of fitness.

A wide-margin winner of Grade 1 novice hurdles at Leopardstown and Punchestown either side of finishing third to The New Lion at the Cheltenham Festival in March, FINAL DEMAND sets out on his chasing career here and it will be a shock if he doesn't make a successful transition to the larger obstacles. Now Is The Hour is a talented second-season novice but would prefer a longer trip, while Butch Cassidy was a decent hurdler and has the scope to make up into a better chaser.

A few of these will pay their way over fences but in FINAL DEMAND they're taking on one of the hottest properties around.

Despite the small field this looks a tricky puzzle to solve, and only a tentative vote can go to JOE COTTON. A winner over C&D in March before running with credit at Plumpton the following month, he returned with a good second at Newton Abbot recently. Although 6lb higher today, he has less to prove than many and could take some catching if allowed to dictate terms. Scorsese struggled on his chasing bow at Cheltenham but he ought to have learned plenty and may fare better in these calmer waters. Hudson is also noted.

Sam Thomas is in excellent form and JUST OVER LAND, who ran his best of last season first time up, has an attractive mark.

Useful in the novice ranks last term, CELTIC DINO made an excellent start to the new campaign when defeating Alexei (second) in the Welsh Champion Hurdle at Chepstow last month. The latter has since won in commanding fashion at Ascot but Sam Thomas' gelding can confirm his superiority. Ground conditions would be an unknown should they become extremely soft, but the son of Doctor Dino is clearly on the up and could have more to offer. This is competitive, though, and there ought to be a host of challengers. Serious Challenge made a pleasing seasonal return at Aintree three weeks ago and is noted along with Gibbs Island. Iberico Lord lost his way following a fall at Ascot last season but he won this in 2023.

The vote goes to SERIOUS CHALLENGE, who should do better still under this code. Castle Carrock is second pick.

LOUVE D'ARC, whose capable half-brother goes well on heavy ground, may represent a bit of value against opponents from bigger yards. The scopey daughter of Silverwave made a promising debut when fourth at Galway last month and may turn around form with the runner-up Churchfield Annie, who'd had a previous run. Easter Bonnet won well at Punchestown but this diminutive filly is not sure to appreciate testing ground. Oldschool Outlaw has good form, while it's noteworthy that winning pointer Caoimhe goes straight into Listed company for her Rules debut.

SOME PRETENDER ran a respectable race on soft in this grade at Gowran last time and she might represent some value here

Only 2lb higher than when winning over C&D on his seasonal return last month, ATLANTIC POWER is difficult to oppose. The son of Westerner still has few miles on the clock and looks to have been found another excellent opportunity. A few of these need improvement to feature, but Nowyouvebinandunit finished third to the selection that day and must be taken seriously on revised terms. Thickthorn Tom didn't show much in maiden/novice events, but it wouldn't be a surprise were he to progress now sent handicapping.

Atlantic Power won last time but MASK OF ZORRO and Thickthorn Tom may fare better for major yards now they go handicapping.

An impressive winner at Worcester on debut before following up over C&D under a penalty, Chicker looks a nice type and should have plenty more to offer. That said, preference is for BUD FOX. The Irish raider won between the flags before being picked up by Gavin Cromwell, and he made an immediate impression for that stable when he landed a bumper at the Punchestown Festival in fine style. That form has been well advertised since and he's one to follow this season. The Mad Poet is also noted.

Having won a warm race in good style on his bumper debut at Punchestown in April, BUD FOX can maintain his unbeaten record.
