1st (6) (7/2 +46%)Vaureal |
7/2(+46%) | (6) Vaureal 7/2, Made too much use of when finishing down the field in a handicap chase over 2m7f at Galway last time. Wears cheekpieces for the first time. Likely to appreciate some give in the ground and around 2½m. Had been in fair form prior to that effort. Hurdle winner is yet to win over fences but some good runs incl' over C&D; poor last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (8/1 +33%)Casey West |
8/1(+33%) | (7) Casey West 8/1, Pulled up in a handicap chase over 2m4f at Wexford last time. Cheekpieces go on for the first time. Effective around 2½m and best with some cut in the ground but currently out of form. Has been poor in two runs after an absence and cheekpieces need to spark a revival. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (9) (8/1 +43%)Slotty Dotty |
8/1(+43%) | (9) Slotty Dotty 8/1, Disappointing on handicap debut when down the field in a handicap chase over 2m7f at Galway last time. Usually held up and suited by give in the ground, probably wants 3m. Yet to match her hurdle form. Point and hurdle winner but was well beaten on handicap chase debut last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (14/1 -56%)Soloman Lane |
14/1(-56%) | (4) Soloman Lane 14/1, Below form when comfortably held in a handicap chase over 2m4f at Limerick, reportedly didn't enjoy kickback and was found to be coughing afterwards. In good form prior to that. Effective around 2½m and suited by cut, though his mark demands more. Solid runs here and Gowran but was coughing after disappointing last time; top rider. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (17/2 -31%)Binge Worthy |
17/2(-31%) | (1) Binge Worthy 17/2, Yard has won two of the last eight renewals of this race. Finished a 33l third in a beginners' chase over 2m4f at Down Royal last time. Effective between 2m and 2½m and acts on soft ground. The longer trip should suit and he's competitive if fit. Point and dual hurdle winner ran with some credit in two beginners' chases. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (12/1 +14%)Where's Frankie |
12/1(+14%) | (2) Where's Frankie 12/1, Needed the run when well beaten in a handicap hurdle over 3m1f here last time. Effective at 3m and beyond and handles cut in the ground. Out of form this year. Four course wins; well beaten on return over hurdles but can do better today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (3) (7/1 -40%)Big Stage |
7/1(-40%) | (3) Big Stage 7/1, Yard has won two of the last eight renewals of this race. Fell in a handicap chase over 2m4f at Kilbeggan last time when returning from a break. Effective between 2m and 2½m and suited by decent ground. Inconsistent but on a fair mark based on his best spring form. Hurdle winner is a maiden over fences but some decent runs and a player if at best. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (10) (10/1 -150%)Chosen Diamond |
10/1(-150%) | (10) Chosen Diamond 10/1, Well backed but below form back down in trip when down the field in a handicap hurdle over 2m here last time, setting it up for closers. Had been in good form prior to that but has a bit to find. Mostly solid over hurdles this year but only three chase runs since winning in 2023. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (11) (17/2 +6%)Lovely Reaction |
17/2(+6%) | (11) Lovely Reaction 17/2, Pulled up in a handicap chase over 3m at Punchestown last time. Effective around 2½m and acts on any ground. Needs to prove herself after a lay-off. Dual hurdle winner was pulled-up chasing on return last time and not easy to fancy. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (8) (12/1 +0%)Attaboyarchie |
12/1(+0%) | (8) Attaboyarchie 12/1, Outpaced and needed the run on chase debut when down the field in a beginners' chase over 2m4f here last time. Effective around 2½m. Should benefit from this drop in grade over fences and can do better based on hurdle form at this venue. Maiden in bumpers and hurdles was well beaten on chase debut last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (11/2 +39%)Secrecies Of Stone |
11/2(+39%) | (5) Secrecies Of Stone 11/2, Fell in a handicap chase over 2m4f at Gowran Park last time after a short break. Effective at around 2½m and acts on yielding and good ground. Progressive until that run and could bounce back. Was going ok in front when unseating over C&D in April; fell on return; has to jump better. |

BINGE WORTHY hasn't run since April but has a favourable chase rating and should be ready for his reappearance. Out of a half-sister to Gold Cup winner Minella Indo, the selection had shown some useful soft ground form and, while well held in two previous chases, has every chance of stepping forward on his handicap debut in this discipline. Chosen Diamond relishes testing ground and is likely to be competitive on his return to action, while four-time course winner Where's Frankie appeals most of the remainder.

Though he has failed to get round on his last two chase runs, SECRECIES OF STONE would have gone close over C&D on the first of those

1st (8) (17/2 +66%)Getaway Master |
17/2(+66%) | (8) Getaway Master 17/2, Not knocked about and needed the run on stable debut when well beaten in a 2m1f handicap hurdle here last time; effective from 2m4f to 3m and suited by plenty of cut; needs to build on that for new connections. Poor strike-rate; step back up in trip may help on second stable start; not a forlorn hope. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (10/11 +39%)Drop Kick |
10/11(+39%) | (7) Drop Kick 10/11, Improved when stepped up in trip to win a handicap by a neck off 85 over 2m4f here last time; effective at 2m4f and acts on soft or good ground; still on the upgrade. Improved form to win over C&D on handicap debut, when clear with an unexposed runner-up. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (10/1 +9%)Young Merlin |
10/1(+9%) | (1) Young Merlin 10/1, Ran to form when finishing second, beaten 9l, in a handicap over 2m at Musselburgh last time; effective around 2m and acts on soft or good ground; ran poorly on his most recent hurdles outing. Running okay on the Flat this autumn and reverts to hurdles on a handy mark; not ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (40/1 -150%)Dalyotin |
40/1(-150%) | (3) Dalyotin 40/1, Needed the run after a long absence when pulled up in a 2m5f handicap chase at Cartmel last time; effective around 2m4f and acts on heavy or soft ground; looks up against it. Won over fences here in April 2023 but just two outings since and pulled up each time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (8/1 -60%)Heritier |
8/1(-60%) | (5) Heritier 8/1, Won this race last year; fell in a 2m5f handicap chase at Ayr last time; effective from 2m to 2m4f and acts on soft or good ground; 4lb below last year's winning mark. Encouraging reappearance run and now 4lb lower than when winning this race last year. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (10/1 -54%)Grey Skies |
10/1(-54%) | (2) Grey Skies 10/1, Too keen and did too much too soon when finishing down the field in a 2m handicap hurdle at Cheltenham last time; previously in good form; effective around 2m and acts on good ground; needs to bounce back. Well beaten at Cheltenham but back in calmer waters today and was in good form previously. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (9) (66/1 -164%)Allbetsoff |
66/1(-164%) | (9) Allbetsoff 66/1, Made too much use of and needed the run when comfortably held in a 2m1f handicap hurdle here last time; enjoys racing prominently; effective around 2m and acts on good to soft or good ground; not the force of old. A case can be made on his stable debut second in May but three lesser runs have followed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (6) (9/2 +50%)Half Track |
9/2(+50%) | (6) Half Track 9/2, Below form back hurdling when well beaten in a 3m handicap hurdle at Ayr last time; usually held up; effective from 2m4f to 3m and acts on heavy or good ground; currently out of sorts. He's struggled this season but is now 10lb lower than when second in this race last year. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (12/1 +0%)Eire Street |
12/1(+0%) | (4) Eire Street 12/1, Pulled up in a 2m4f handicap hurdle at Hexham last time; cheekpieces applied for the first time; effective from 2m to 2m4f and acts on heavy or good to soft ground; needs to bounce back. Course winner but below par on both runs last term and pulled up on recent comeback. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (10) (80/1 -471%)Ambassador |
80/1(-471%) | (10) Ambassador 80/1, No obvious excuse when comfortably held in a 2m1f handicap hurdle at Sedgefield last time; effective around 2m and needs a sound surface; inconsistent overall. Won at Cartmel in August & now just 1lb higher but he's struggled to get competitive since. |

DROP KICK appreciated the step up in distance when making a winning handicap debut at this venue earlier this month and that is arguably the best recent form on offer. Mark Walford's charge runs off a 6lb higher mark but looks well placed to complete a double. Ambassador lurks on a workable rating and could have a say if bouncing back to form. Dalyotin completes the shortlist.

This looks a good opportunity for DROP KICK (nap) to make it 2-2 in handicaps, having pulled clear with an unexposed runner-up over C&D.

1st (4) (11/8 +61%)Mange Tout |
11/8(+61%) | (4) Mange Tout 11/8, Yard has won two of the last five runnings of this race. Won a juvenile hurdle at Down Royal over 2m1f by 4l last time. Effective at 2m and acts on very soft ground. Smart juvenile prospect for a top yard and will stay a bit further. Easy French winner scored at Down Royal on Irish debut despite racing keenly; hood back on. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (5/4 +0%)Narciso Has |
5/4(+0%) | (2) Narciso Has 5/4, Very promising debut, winning by 1 1/4l in a juvenile hurdle over 1m7f at Auteuil on debut. Effective at 2m and acts on yielding to soft ground. French winner with much more to come for top connections. Won on debut in France back in April; respected on debut for this yard even after absence. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (16/1 -100%)Adrienne |
16/1(-100%) | (5) Adrienne 16/1, Quickened clear cosily and improved for testing ground when winning a maiden hurdle here by 4 1/2l last time. Effective at 2m and handles any ground. In good form in both codes and could progress further over hurdles. Flat maiden won well over C&D on second hurdles run and looks likely to be involved today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (20/1 -11%)I'll Be Handy |
20/1(-11%) | (1) I'll Be Handy 20/1, Ran to form when second, beaten a length in a juvenile hurdle at Punchestown last time. Cheekpieces on for the first time. Effective over 2m and handles any ground. Consistent performer but has plenty to find up in grade. Regressive on Flat but runner-up in two juvenile hurdles; cheekpieces added; needs more. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (9/1 +0%)Wizard Of Odds |
9/1(+0%) | (3) Wizard Of Odds 9/1, Keen and travelled strongly before flattening out after a late error when second, beaten 4l in a juvenile hurdle over 2m1f at Down Royal last time. Effective just under 2m on good ground. Progressive over hurdles and form looks strong. Won a Cork maiden hurdle and 2nd to Mange Tout at Down Royal since; work to do now. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (6) (11/1 +0%)In My Teens |
11/1(+0%) | (6) In My Teens 11/1, Made mistakes but travelled well before not finding as much as looked likely when fourth, beaten 2l in a juvenile hurdle at Punchestown last time. Effective at 2m and acts with cut and on good ground. Useful flat performer with more to come, though stamina to prove. A 98-rated Flat winner weakened late on making hurdle debut but should have improved. |

NARCISO HAS possesses a fine French pedigree and notably debuts for top connections. Out of a Listed-winning dam, who has already produced three black-type performers, the selection scored on debut at Auteuil in April in a race which is working out well. First-time hooded Mange Tout appeared briefly outpaced before capitalising on a mistake at the second last by Wizard Of Odds when scoring at Down Royal recently. With the pair now meeting on 4lb revised terms, little separates them. In My Teens ran on close home at Punchestown recently and appears a work in progress.

Despite running away with her rider on Irish debut at Down Royal, MANGE TOUT managed to win. She can win again with a hood back on

1st (3) (8/15 +0%)Juby Ball |
8/15(+0%) | (3) Juby Ball 8/15, Travelled strongly and won easily by 6l in a novice hurdle at Chepstow last time. Returning from a long layoff, he is effective at 2m and acts on soft and good to soft. Brings plenty of potential to fences. 2-2 over hurdles & connections waste little time in sending him over fences; strong claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (12/1 -71%)Hazy Glen |
12/1(-71%) | (1) Hazy Glen 12/1, Improved on recent form when beaten 4 1/4l in a handicap hurdle over 2m4f at Wetherby last time. Had been in good form prior and returns from a long layoff. Effective from 2m to 3m, acts on soft, and wears a first-time tongue-tie for this switch to fences. Some good h'cap hurdle form last winter but needs to find some improvement on chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (2/1 0%)Junker D'allier |
2/1(0%) | (4) Junker D'allier 2/1, Below form on chase debut when fourth, beaten 29l in a beginners' chase at Uttoxeter, when tried in a tongue-tie. Trainer is in form. Effective at 2m and acts on soft and good to soft. Underwent a wind operation before that run and remains capable of better. 3-time novice hurdle winner who is open to improvement on second chase start; major player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (11/1 +45%)Joecooker |
11/1(+45%) | (2) Joecooker 11/1, Needed the run when well beaten in a handicap hurdle over 2m5f at Kelso last time. Has an outside chance and is effective around 2m on soft ground but faces a tough task on chase debut. Bumper and maiden hurdle winner, but he has something to find on today's chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (20/1 -82%)My Kiwi Girl |
20/1(-82%) | (5) My Kiwi Girl 20/1, Pulled up in a handicap chase over 2m1f at Ayr last time. Effective at 2m and acts on soft ground. Has undergone a wind operation but needs to bounce back. Pulled up on chase debut; up against it, even if wind surgery has a positive effect. |

JUBY BALL has only tasted defeat once in his four career starts, winning both of his outings over the smaller obstacles and now making his chasing bow. Evan Williams' six-year-old is an exciting prospect and this looks a good starting point. Junker D'allier could only manage fourth of five on his first appearance over fences at Uttoxeter, but he could take a step forward to get involved. Hazy Glen is another to keep an eye on.

Preference is for chase newcomer JUBY BALL, who looked very promising when going 2-2 over hurdles earlier this year

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (22/1 -38%)Psychologicaldrama |
22/1(-38%) | (5) Psychologicaldrama 22/1, Telescope filly and half-sister to Brandy McQueen, a useful hurdler and chaser up to 3m2f. Likely to require further and more time to develop. Out of a useful jumper; market may guide on debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (33/1 -50%)Milady Du Breuil |
33/1(-50%) | (4) Milady Du Breuil 33/1, Some promise on debut, albeit well beaten in a Mares' bumper at Stratford only start; effective at 2m, acts on GS; plenty more needed. Over 15l behind Graceful Glance when sixth of 13 in Stratford bumper last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (20/1 -67%)Knowstone |
20/1(-67%) | (2) Knowstone 20/1, 14,000 euros breeze-up purchase by Order Of St George; dam unraced sister to high-class French chaser Rubi Ball; could go well on debut. Out of unraced sister to a high-class French chaser; has fairly good standard to reach. |

LUCY THE WIRE brings hurdling experience to the table following her debut second at Cork for Denis Hogan. Now switched to James Owen, she makes plenty of appeal in a bid to go one better. Graceful Glance placed in a Stratford bumper and has to be of interest coming from the family of Reve De Sivola. Newcomer Knowstone completes the shortlist.

Second in a big field at Cork last month, LUCY THE WIRE is taken to put her previous jumping experience to good use.

1st (10) (3/1 +33%)Better Times Ahead |
3/1(+33%) | (10) Better Times Ahead 3/1, Travelled strongly and did it cosily when landing a handicap by 1 1/2l off 108 over 3m here last time. Thrown in on chase form and improved up in trip; may stay even further and big player back over fences. Won a 3m handicap hurdle here on his seasonal debut, should be in prime shape for this. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (12/1 -9%)Will Do |
12/1(-9%) | (4) Will Do 12/1, Below form when down the field in the Troytown Handicap Chase (Grade 3) over 3m at Navan most recently. Top jockey returns to the saddle. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (14) (10/1 +17%)Brucejack |
10/1(+17%) | (14) Brucejack 10/1, Had every chance but ran slightly below form over a sharp trip when fourth, beaten 24l, in a beginners' chase over 2m4f at Gowran Park latest. Effective from 2 1/2m to 3 1/2m on any ground. Consistent but a frustrating maiden over fences. Yard won this last year. No chase success in 13 attempts, fifth in this event last year, 6lb out of the handicap. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (22/1 -22%)Favori De Champdou |
22/1(-22%) | (1) Favori De Champdou 22/1, Needed the run when down the field in the Troytown Handicap Chase (Grade 3) over 3m at Navan last time. Effective at 3m and suited by soft ground, though faces a stiff mark. Yard has won two of the last five runnings of this race. Decent form last season, deserted by Jack Kennedy after a tame display in the Troytown. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (12) (12/1 -9%)St Denis's Well |
12/1(-9%) | (12) St Denis's Well 12/1, Badly hampered by a loose horse but improved when suited by a stiff track to land a handicap by 4 1/4l off 100 over 2m at Navan last time. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (9) (15/2 +12%)Beaufort Scale |
15/2(+12%) | (9) Beaufort Scale 15/2, Outpaced and unsuited by a slight drop in trip when well beaten in the Troytown Handicap Chase (Grade 3) over 3m at Navan latest. Suited by 3m+ and progressing over fences. Yard has won two of the last five runnings; further should suit. Maiden over fences, was staying on towards the finish in the Troytown, this trip may suit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (2) (15/2 -36%)Now Is The Hour |
15/2(-36%) | (2) Now Is The Hour 15/2, Finished third, beaten 16l, in a beginners' chase over 2m5f at Navan on his latest start. Suited by 3m+ and handles soft ground. Should build on that run now stepped up in trip and looks generously treated on his UK form. Interesting following third behind Final Demand over a trip short of his best at Navan. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (8) (22/1 +12%)History Of Fashion |
22/1(+12%) | (8) History Of Fashion 22/1, Won this race last year but was well beaten in the Cork Grand National (Listed) over 3m4f at Cork latest. Stays 3m+ and has a good Fairyhouse record. Took this off 1lb lower last year and looks a likely target again. Veteran stayer won this event last year, needs to bounce back from poor Cork National run. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (13) (8/1 +27%)Onethreefivenotout |
8/1(+27%) | (13) Onethreefivenotout 8/1, Finished second, beaten 4 1/2l, in a handicap chase over 3m at Down Royal latest. Suited by 3m on good ground and progressing over fences. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (7) (20/1 -43%)Fortunedefortunata |
20/1(-43%) | (7) Fortunedefortunata 20/1, Reluctant early and never threatened when down the field in the Troytown Handicap Chase (Grade 3) over 3m at Navan most recent. Blinkers applied for the first time. Suited by 3m+ with ease in the ground but below par this term. Yard has won two of the last five runnings. Not much has gone right since a long-distance Punchestown win last season, blinkered now. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (6) (14/1 +22%)Positive Thinker |
14/1(+22%) | (6) Positive Thinker 14/1, Needed the run when well beaten in the Brown Lad Handicap Hurdle (Listed) over 2m4f at Naas last time. A consistent type but mark stiff enough. Went close in last year's Cork National, likely to show the benefit of a Naas hurdles run. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (11) (9/1 +25%)Verdant Place |
9/1(+25%) | (11) Verdant Place 9/1, Finished fourth, beaten 10l, in the Irish Stallion Farms Novice Handicap Chase Final (Listed) over 3m at Navan last time. Effective at 3m, suited by stiff tracks and soft or heavy ground. Progressive and well treated off an unchanged mark; longer trip may suit. Two wins in 3m handicaps at Navan, Mark Walsh prefers the race-fit Better Times Ahead. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (18/1 +10%)Nine Graces |
18/1(+10%) | (3) Nine Graces 18/1, Outpaced and needed the run when down the field in a handicap hurdle over 2m4f at Punchestown last time. Capable of better. No encouragement from a low-key seasonal debut over hurdles, not certain to stay. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (15) (33/1 +18%)Clonmeen |
33/1(+18%) | (15) Clonmeen 33/1, Never competitive when well beaten in a handicap chase over 3m at Down Royal last time, possibly finding the ground too quick. Usually held up; effective up to 3m and acts on heavy or yielding. Down in the weights but inconsistent of late. In rear at Down Royal last time, well held by Onethreefivenotout, 6lb out of the handicap. |

Lightly-weighted ONETHREEFIVENOTOUT performed with credit on his first start for Gordon Elliott and might be able to build on that. While he had shown ability in the UK, his form was also a little in-and-out but ran nicely at Down Royal and he is suited by today's easier ground conditions. Better Times Ahead is a soft-ground stayer who chased home subsequent Scottish National winner Macdermott here in April 2024. He recently scored over hurdles at today's course and is respected back over the larger obstacles. Lonesome Boatman made all to win the Cork National recently and is capable of more, despite a 9lb rise.

Stamina is essential here, and POSTIVE THINKER (nap) fits the bill on the strength of last season's second in the 3m4f Cork National

12/1(-20%) | (8) Port Station 12/1, Fair hurdles debut when 13l third in a maiden hurdle over 2m4f at Newcastle on his latest run; effective at 2m4f on good to soft ground and should improve. No match for first two when third on hurdle debut but each-way claims once more. |

5th (10) (50/1 -79%)Wherearethejudges |
50/1(-79%) | (10) Wherearethejudges 50/1, Modest debut when 9l fourth in a conditions race over 2m4f at Tranwell on his first outing; faces a stiff task on his rules debut. Fourth on debut in British maiden point; probably best watched on rules debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (28/1 +15%)Eagle's Cairn |
28/1(+15%) | (4) Eagle's Cairn 28/1, Outpaced but showed improvement from debut when 9 1/2l third in a bumper over 2m1f here on his most recent start; effective at 2m1f on soft ground and likely to progress. Half-brother to 2m7f/3m1f hurdle winner; open to improvement now up in trip on h'dle debut. |

7th (5) (100/1 -400%)Je Mr Dawson |
100/1(-400%) | (5) Je Mr Dawson 100/1, Modest bumper debut when well beaten in a 2m contest at Ayr on his only start; returning from a long layoff and yet to find suitable conditions; hard to recommend. Half-brother to useful French winner but soundly beaten in bumper at Ayr on sole start. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (1) (100/1 -150%)Ballybough Nelson |
100/1(-150%) | (1) Ballybough Nelson 100/1, Modest hurdles debut when down the field in a maiden hurdle over 2m4f at Hexham on his most recent run; effective at 3m in points and should do better. Point runner-up but well beaten at 25-1 at Hexham this month on his rules debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (9) (200/1 -100%)Reliance Kid |
200/1(-100%) | (9) Reliance Kid 200/1, Again ran to a moderate level when down the field in a novice hurdle over 2m at Ayr last time; yet to find suitable conditions over hurdles though a longer trip may help. Went close in a point in May 2024 but tailed off at triple-figure odds on both hurdle runs. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (3) (9/1 -29%)Canunclecani |
9/1(-29%) | (3) Canunclecani 9/1, Ran to form when second beaten 4l in a novice hurdle over 2m1f here last time; returning from a long layoff; effective at 2m1f on soft ground and should be suited by a longer trip. 50-1 runner-up here in February; could be in the mix on his reappearance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (11) (12/1 -20%)Inedit D'amour |
12/1(-20%) | (11) Inedit D'amour 12/1, Ran a bit below his best on British debut when 8l third in a maiden hurdle over 2m1f here last time; effective at 2m1f on soft ground and may appreciate a longer trip. Third of six here three weeks ago; each-way contender if jumping with greater fluency. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (6) (125/1 -25%)King Kodiak |
125/1(-25%) | (6) King Kodiak 125/1, Unseated rider in a novice hurdle over 2m at Hexham on his latest outing; likely to be better suited by 2m4f or further over hurdles and faces a tough task here. Newcastle bumper in which he was 21l 5th has worked out very well; not ruled out each-way. |

Milan Park showed ability when finishing second on his hurdling debut at Wetherby last month and would have learnt a great deal from that experience. Even so, BLOFELD looks the way to go. Rebecca Menzies' charge comfortably won his sole bumper start at Ayr in February and it would be no surprise to see him make an instant impression over timber. Any market support behind The Burren Man would be interesting.

This could be between impressive Ayr bumper winner Blofeld and Irish point runner-up THE BURREN MAN, with the last-named preferred.

2nd (8) (2/1 +40%)Dinofromberlais |
2/1(+40%) | (8) Dinofromberlais 2/1, Yard won this last year; improved on handicap debut, tiring late when 8 1/2l third in a handicap hurdle at Uttoxeter most recent run; trainer in form; effective 2m, acts on GS, G; more to come. Just a respectable third on seasonal/handicap debut but may still have potential. |

16/1(-78%) | (1) Wewillgowithplanb 16/1, Fell early in a handicap chase at Ludlow last time; returning from a long layoff. Effective around 2m and acts on heavy and good to soft ground; capable if ready to go. On workable hurdle mark but absent since two non-completions over fences in late 2024. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (11/1 +8%)Activist |
11/1(+8%) | (4) Activist 11/1, Made too much use of, needed run when down the field in a handicap hurdle over 2m3f at Chepstow most recent; has since undergone a wind operation; effective 2m-2m4f, acts on S, GS; should come on for return. Ended last season in good form; given wind op after finishing weakly last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (9) (3/1 -33%)Stardrop |
3/1(-33%) | (9) Stardrop 3/1, Improved, down in grade on easier ground when winning a juvenile hurdle at Sedgefield over 2m1f by 2 1/2l last time. Effective at 2m and acts on soft and good ground; progressing. Won Sedgefield juvenile hurdle this month; tendency to race too freely remains a worry. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (2) (11/1 -47%)Close Combat |
11/1(-47%) | (2) Close Combat 11/1, Improved when winning a novice hurdle at Exeter over 2m1f by 1/2l last time; returning from a long layoff. Effective at 2m1f and handles heavy going; open to further improvement. Kept on stoutly to win Exeter novice in February; makes handicap debut after layoff. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (6) (33/1 +34%)Golden Move |
33/1(+34%) | (6) Golden Move 33/1, Too free on hurdles return when finishing down the field in a handicap hurdle over 2m1f at Aintree most recently. Effective at 2m and acts on soft and good ground; currently out of form under both codes. In poor form on the Flat for new stable this summer and again well beaten on hurdle return. |

CLOSE COMBAT has improved with each start over hurdles and returns to action having scored at Exeter in February. The four-year-old has shown useful form with plenty of cut in the ground and that augurs well for his handicap bow. Stardrop clearly benefited from being dropped in at Warwick on his penultimate start as the juvenile has since won at Sedgefield. He enters calculations along with Dinofromberlais, who is taken to improve from his reappearance at Uttoxeter.

This can go to IP UP, who made a pleasing seasonal debut in a more competitive race than this at Carlisle four weeks ago.

1st (5) (8/13 +86%)Koktail Brut |
8/13(+86%) | (5) Koktail Brut 8/13, The yard has won two of the last five runnings of this race; quickened clear for an easy win in the Maiden Hurdle at Punchestown by 9l last time. Effective at 2m and acts on any ground. His form looks very strong and he appears well worth this step up in grade. Easy maiden winner; stable's first-string and has won four of last 10 runnings; big player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (8/1 +43%)Blake |
8/1(+43%) | (2) Blake 8/1, Improved for a comfortable win in a maiden hurdle at Down Royal over 2m1f by 5l last time. Effective at 2m on yielding or good ground and capable of better over hurdles based on very useful Flat form. Useful Flat type; won a Down Royal maiden hurdle but needs a lot more in this company. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (9) (16/1 +20%)The Passing Wife |
16/1(+20%) | (9) The Passing Wife 16/1, Improved from debut when 2 1/4l third in a maiden hurdle at Gowran Park on his most recent run. Effective at 2m and acts on any ground. Consistent in bumpers and hurdles, his form looks strong though this demands more. Returned from a long absence with a third in a Gowran maiden hurdle; has to find loads. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (5/1 +38%)Gameball |
5/1(+38%) | (4) Gameball 5/1, Improved on bumper form with a very promising debut when winning a maiden hurdle at Punchestown by 6l last time. Effective at 2m on good ground. An impressive bumper winner who is likely to have more to offer over hurdles with debut form franked. Bumper and maiden hurdle winner; looks the yard's first-string and open to improvement. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (15/2 -25%)Eachtotheirown |
15/2(-25%) | (3) Eachtotheirown 15/2, Quickened and improved on bumper form down in grade on hurdle debut when winning a maiden hurdle at Galway by 3l last time. Effective at 2m on yielding ground. Winter bumper form has been franked at Graded level over hurdles and there is more to come. Won a Galway maiden hurdle with little fuss; needs a lot more in this company. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (10) (16/1 +68%)Whimsy |
16/1(+68%) | (10) Whimsy 16/1, Ran to form when 5l third in the For Auction Novice Hurdle (Grade 3) at Navan on her most recent run. Consistent at 2m and acts on any ground. In career-best form but appears to have reached her current level. Ran with credit in Grade 3 behind Love Me Tender; hard to see those placings reversed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (40/1 -60%)Sageborough |
40/1(-60%) | (7) Sageborough 40/1, Made mistakes but showed promise when a 2 1/2l winner in a maiden hurdle at Wexford on debut. Effective at 2m on yielding ground. His debut form has been franked and he could improve for further in time. Wexford maiden hurdle winner needs much more today against rivals with more experience. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (8) (40/1 -100%)Scope To Improve |
40/1(-100%) | (8) Scope To Improve 40/1, Justified short odds in decisive fashion on debut when winning an auction hurdle at Clonmel over 2m1f by 5l last time. Effective at 2m on yielding or good ground. Has much more to come, worth this step up in grade and likely to stay further. Won a Clonmel maiden hurdle on return; looks the yard's second-string; a fair bit to find. |

KOKTAIL BRUT looked a capable type when scoring on his recent hurdling debut and is suited by today's trip and going. The manner in which he scored at Punchestown earlier this month was impressive, as he reversed Leopardstown form with Colcannon and the pair finished clear of the remainder. Love Me Tender has impressed in three wins so far and while his nimble jumping has been straight and true, softer ground is a concern for him. Eachtotheirown, Gameball and Sageborough are each promising but nonetheless step up following recent maiden wins.

It was an impressive maiden hurdle debut from KOKTAIL BRUT at Punchestown and he already looks a better hurdler than bumper horse.

3/1(+57%) | (2) Anglers Crag 3/1, Below form when pulled up at Perth on his latest outing. Effective up to 4m and handles soft and good ground, though he may need this after an absence since the spring. Course winner who is down to a dangerous mark & may have benefited from change of scenery. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (9) (8/1 +43%)Fenland Tiger |
8/1(+43%) | (9) Fenland Tiger 8/1, Made mistakes and needed the run when well beaten in a handicap chase over 3m2f here last time. Effective between 3m and 3m2f and handles heavy or good to soft; must prove ability remains after a long break. Well treated on old form but needs to prove he retains all of that ability. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (3/1 +14%)Great Notions |
3/1(+14%) | (7) Great Notions 3/1, Ran to form when beaten 3 1/4l off 112 over 3m at Wetherby last time. Effective from 3m to 3m1f and handles soft or good ground; capable of building on that effort. Point/hunter chase winner who was promising second on recent handicap debut at Wetherby. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (6/1 -50%)From The Ashes |
6/1(-50%) | (5) From The Ashes 6/1, Ran to form when 8 1/4l third in the Listed Cork Grand National over 3m4f at Cork last time. Suited by marathon distances and prefers some cut; in good form and holds a solid chance. Poor strike-rate but ran well in Ireland last time and his surplus stamina can be a plus. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) (33/1 -50%)Eloi Du Puy |
33/1(-50%) | (8) Eloi Du Puy 33/1, Unseated before the race got going at Kelso on his recent chase debut. Best around 2m4f and acts on heavy or good to soft ground; should improve but now needs to show it. Four-time hurdle winner who can be forgiven mid-race unseat on chase debut; not discounted. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (10) (40/1 -60%)Shighness |
40/1(-60%) | (10) Shighness 40/1, Outpaced, needed the run, and outclassed when comfortably held in the Listed Houghton Mares' Chase over 2m4f here last time. Effective over 3m or further and handles soft or good to soft ground; the drop in grade should help. Second at Hexham in March; capable if on a going day but they were scarce last season. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (5/2 +38%)Pierrot Jaguen |
5/2(+38%) | (1) Pierrot Jaguen 5/2, Ran to form when 12l third in a novice hurdle over 2m5f at Newbury on his most recent start. The trainer is in good form, but he returns from a long absence and still has a bit to find. Very lightly raced point/maiden hurdle winner who could improve for the switch to fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (12/1 -60%)Rattling Road |
12/1(-60%) | (4) Rattling Road 12/1, Again below form when comfortably held in a handicap chase over 2m4f at Hexham last time. Effective around that trip and handles soft or good to soft ground; capable of better. Won two in a row over 2m4f last winter & could be a player if seeing out this longer trip. |

Great Notions made a pleasing start for the Fiona Needham yard when second at Wetherby earlier this month and commands respect, but the vote goes to PIERROT JAGUEN. Olly Murphy's point-to-point winner finished third in a novice event under a penalty at Newbury in February and now makes his handicap/chase debut. An opening mark of 124 looks workable and he might be the one to side with. Rattling Road is another to consider.

A chance is taken on ANGLERS CRAG, who was struggling when last seen but has an attractive mark to work with on his stable debut.

13/8(-8%) | (5) Swindon Village 13/8, Promising hurdles debut when 3 1/2l third in a maiden over 2m4f at Ffos Las on latest outing; effective at 2m4f and acts on soft ground; likely to improve and commands respect. Placed in what looked a good Ffos Las maiden on last month's hurdling debut; respected. |

7/2(+13%) | (4) Lon Chaney 7/2, Showed promise on hurdles debut when comfortably held in a maiden over 2m4f at Ffos Las last time; effective at 2m4f and acts on soft ground; open to improvement and one to note. Behind Swindon Village when fifth on rules debut but made good ground from the rear. |

3rd (2) (15/2 -36%)Karma Police |
15/2(-36%) | (2) Karma Police 15/2, Made a promising bumper debut when second, beaten a short-head over 2m2f at Fontwell last time; returning from a long layoff; effective at 2m2f and acts on soft ground; improvement expected now hurdling. Irish point winner in February 2024 and close second in a bumper in January; hurdle debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (40/1 -43%)Kastellion |
40/1(-43%) | (3) Kastellion 40/1, Tired after a bad error when well held in a maiden hurdle over 2m3f at Chepstow last time; effective at 2m4f and acts on good to soft ground; needs to improve to figure. Ran well to a point on recent rules debut but has quite a lot to find here.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (1) (7/4 +7%)Home Made Hero |
7/4(+7%) | (1) Home Made Hero 7/4, Very promising rules debut when winning a novice hurdle at Uttoxeter over 2m4f by 12l last time; effective at 2m4f and acts on good to soft ground; should progress further but has to concede a penalty. Made all to win by 12l on stable/hurdle debut at Uttoxeter last month; obvious contender. |

Home Made Hero made a promising start when scoring emphatically on his hurdling debut at Uttoxeter last month. A 7lb penalty might not be a problem, but the fact he jumped and hung left during that contest gives enough of a concern now going the other way round. With that in mind, SWINDON VILLAGE may prove to be the answer. Charlie Longsdon's gelding had Lon Chaney (fifth) in behind when third at Ffos Las, which might prove to be a solid piece of form.

The most interesting runner is LON CHANEY, who caught the eye making good headway from a long way off the pace on his hurdle debut.

8/15(+7%) | (5) Romeo Coolio 8/15, From the yard that won this last year; won a beginners' chase at Down Royal by 14l last time. Effective from 2m to 2½m and suited by decent ground. A Grade 1 winner over hurdles, could prove a top-class novice chaser, and has every chance up in class. Not far off the best of last term's novice hurdlers, good start over fences at Down Royal. |

2nd (2) (10/3 +17%)Gold Dancer |
10/3(+17%) | (2) Gold Dancer 10/3, Improved again up in trip when winning the ODS Engineering Novice Chase (Grade 3) at Tipperary by 8l last time; effective from 2m to 2½m and suited by decent ground. Graded wins have been franked; a progressive sort and a big player up in grade. Three consecutive wins since May, form of Galway festival success has been well-advertised. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (12/1 +25%)Captain Cody |
12/1(+25%) | (1) Captain Cody 12/1, Won the Scottish Grand National at Ayr over 4m by a length last time; effective from 3m to 4m and acts on any ground. Hugely progressive last term, has an experience edge, but this trip may prove too sharp. Ended last season with Scottish National win, was effective over this trip as a hurdler. |

4th (6) (125/1 -150%)Raffles Dolce Vita |
125/1(-150%) | (6) Raffles Dolce Vita 125/1, Needed the run on stable debut when comfortably held in a beginners' chase over 2m at Naas last time; effective at 2m and suited by some cut in the ground. Should improve for the run but looks vulnerable at this level. Faded into sixth on Irish/chasing debut at Naas, faces a huge task against his elders. |

5th (3) (7/1 -27%)Ol Man Dingle |
7/1(-27%) | (3) Ol Man Dingle 7/1, Improved up in trip and grade when winning the Paddy Power Betting Shops Novice Chase (Grade 3) at Cork by 3l last time; effective from 2m to 2½m. Progressing over fences and worth a further step up in grade. Has made an excellent transition to chasing with Galway and Cork wins, deserves a shot. |

6th (4) (33/1 -65%)Pied Piper |
33/1(-65%) | (4) Pied Piper 33/1, From the yard that won this last year; ran to form but flattened out over a stretching trip at a stiff track when comfortably held in the Troytown Handicap Chase (Grade 3) over 3m at Navan last time. Effective around 2½m and has reached his level. Three chase wins in small-field events, well held by Gold Dancer on Tipperary running. |

Willie Mullins had this race in mind for GOLD DANCER after he beat stablemate Westport Cove at the Galway Festival and the Doctor Dino gelding went on to land another Grade 3 at Tipperary last month. The form of those last two victories has been franked and, despite the concern that summer novices can often be found wanting in this race, the six-year-old can extend his winning sequence. Romeo Coolio was turned over at odds-on in last year's Royal Bond but subsequently showed his true colours at Grade 1 level and won well on chase debut at Down Royal, albeit in a reduced test of jumping. Ol Man Dingle, unbeaten in two chases, is another worthy of consideration.

Based on his form as a high-ranking novice hurdler last season and a competent chasing debut, ROMEO COOLIO looks the part

Four-time hurdle winner in Ireland but tailed off at 125-1 on recent stable debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (5/1 +64%)Whiskeywealth |
5/1(+64%) | (5) Whiskeywealth 5/1, Below form when down the field in a handicap hurdle at Aintree most recent; enjoys making it; effective 2m, acts on any; bit to prove at present. Fairly encouraging run on last month's stable debut but well beaten at Aintree since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (3) (10/1 -100%)Doyen Star |
10/1(-100%) | (3) Doyen Star 10/1, Pulled up in a beginners' chase over 2m at Haydock last time; effective at 2m and acts on good to soft; returning after a lengthy absence and needs to show more. 2-2 over hurdles; struggled in two chases subsequently; check market back from long layoff. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (1) (17/2 +23%)A Different Kind |
17/2(+23%) | (1) A Different Kind 17/2, Below form when finishing down the field in a 2m handicap chase at Uttoxeter on latest start; effective up to 2m4f and acts on soft ground; returns after a lengthy absence and has something to find. Very well handicapped on 2023 chase form but absent since struggling in April-June 2024. |

SALIGO BAY is in the form of his life, winning three out of his last four starts in this sphere, most recently in this grade at Wetherby. A 5lb higher mark makes life tougher, but he is hard to oppose in his current mood. Out Of Office sports a first-time hood on his return from a long absence and would be of interest if the market speaks in his favour. Medieval Gold was just touched off into second over C&D last time and also has a chance.

Medieval Gold has to be high on the list but preference is for the bang-in-form SALIGO BAY, who is taken to complete a hat-trick.

1st (8) (15/2 +46%)Fresh Speculation |
15/2(+46%) | (8) Fresh Speculation 15/2, Ran to form on return when beaten 8l in a handicap hurdle over 2m4f at Ffos Las last time. Effective from 2m4f to 2m7f and acts on soft or good to soft ground. Has a chance if building on that reappearance. Shaped well on seasonal debut but moves up in grade here and others appeal more. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (11/2 -100%)John Barbour |
11/2(-100%) | (4) John Barbour 11/2, Improved when stepped up in trip to win a handicap by 3 1/4l off 113 over 2m4f at Uttoxeter last time. Effective from 2m to 2m4f and acts on good to soft or good ground. Likely to progress further despite a 5lb rise. 2-6 over hurdles after recent Uttoxeter win; player if suited by the slower ground here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (11/10 +69%)Woodland Park |
11/10(+69%) | (3) Woodland Park 11/10, Ran to form, just tiring late back from a break when beaten 2l off 117 over 2m1f at Carlisle last time. The trainer is in good form. Effective from 2m to 2m5f and acts on soft or good to soft ground; should come on for that reappearance. C&D maiden winner; placed over 2m1f on seasonal/handicap debut; back up in trip today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (20/1 -43%)My Bobby Dazzler |
20/1(-43%) | (5) My Bobby Dazzler 20/1, Had every chance but was well beaten in a handicap hurdle over 3m1f at Aintree last time. Effective from 2m4f to 3m and acts on soft or good ground. Out of form this year but now lower in the weights. Well handicapped on old form but this regressive 10yo has not won since 2023. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (10/3 +0%)Akimos |
10/3(+0%) | (2) Akimos 10/3, Travelled well and ran to form on handicap debut when beaten a neck off 115 over 2m4f at Sandown last time. Effective at 2m4f and acts on soft or good to soft ground. Progressing for a top yard. Went close on recent seasonal/handicap debut at Sandown; probably still has more to offer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (22/1 -120%)Bolsover Bill |
22/1(-120%) | (6) Bolsover Bill 22/1, Ran to form when beaten 4l off 115 over 3m at Chepstow last time. Absent for a very lengthy period since. Effective up to 3m and acts on heavy or good to soft ground; something to prove after the layoff. In good form over fences in early 2024; reverts to hurdling on tempting mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (9) (33/1 +18%)Woodythewoodpecker |
33/1(+18%) | (9) Woodythewoodpecker 33/1, Below form back from a break when comfortably held in a handicap hurdle over 2m6f at Hereford last time. Effective from 2m4f to 2m6f and acts on soft or good ground. Should come on for the return run. Unexposed after only five hurdle runs but was soundly beaten this month, after a break. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (7) (125/1 -400%)Italian Spirit |
125/1(-400%) | (7) Italian Spirit 125/1, Probably needed the run when 12l third in a handicap hurdle over 2m4f at Uttoxeter most recently. Absent for a very lengthy period; usually held up. Effective from 2m to 2m4f and acts on soft or good ground; has a bit to prove after the break. Respectable third on stable debut in May 2024 but not seen since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (1) (14/1 -75%)Ito Ditto |
14/1(-75%) | (1) Ito Ditto 14/1, Made too much use of up in trip when comfortably held in a handicap chase over 2m4f at Uttoxeter last time. Returning from a long layoff; effective at 2m4f and acts on heavy or good to soft ground. Likes to race prominently but fitness is a concern. Very disappointing over fences in late 2024; back hurdling after 11-month absence. |

John Barbour showed the benefit of a step up in trip when winning at Uttoxeter latest, but although respected from 5lb higher, AKIMOS gets the vote. The son of Westerner was beaten a neck into second on his seasonal return/handicap bow at Sandown three weeks ago and still looks well treated, despite a 4lb rise. Woodland Park looks certain to relish a return to further, and veteran My Bobby Dazzler wouldn't be without a chance from a falling mark.

C&D winner WOODLAND PARK ran well on his recent seasonal/handicap debut and ought to be suited by this move back up in trip.

1st (6) (1/1 -10%)Teahupoo |
1/1(-10%) | (6) Teahupoo 1/1, A five-time Grade 1 winner who took this race last year. Landed the Champion Stayers Hurdle (Grade 1) at Punchestown over 3m by 4 1/4l last time. Effective from 2 1/2m to 3m and prefers soft ground; the leading staying hurdler and can complete a hat-trick in this contest. Won this in 2022 and 2023, beaten by Lossiemouth last year, good chance he can make amends. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (13/8 +7%)Ballyburn |
13/8(+7%) | (1) Ballyburn 13/8, A four-time Grade 1 winner for a yard that landed this last year. Ran to form when second, beaten 6 1/2l, in the Champion Novice Chase (Grade 1) over 3m1f at Punchestown last time; a clear threat back over hurdles where only defeated once. Former top novice hurdler, chasing last term, could rebuild his reputation in this sphere. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (28/1 -27%)Maxxum |
28/1(-27%) | (4) Maxxum 28/1, From a yard that has won two of the last five runnings. Needed the run when fourth, beaten 22l, in the Lismullen Hurdle (Grade 2) at Navan last time. Effective at around 2 1/2m and suited by cut; likes to dominate. Recorded seventh hurdles win in a C&D Grade 2 in April, not in the same league as Teahupoo. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (2) (10/1 +60%)Casheldale Lad |
10/1(+60%) | (2) Casheldale Lad 10/1, From a yard that has won two of the last five runnings. Quickened clear comfortably and outclassed rivals in a weak race for the grade when winning the bottlegreen Hurdle (Listed) at Down Royal over 2m1f by 7l last time. Suited by 2m; progressive but vulnerable up in class. Highly dependable youngster, three wins and third in Galway Hurdle from last four starts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (5) (11/1 -10%)Mystical Power |
11/1(-10%) | (5) Mystical Power 11/1, A dual Grade 1 winner from last year's winning yard. Pulled up in the Stayers' Hurdle (Grade 1) over 3m at Cheltenham when last seen and returns from a long layoff. Effective at 2m but badly out of form last season; stamina a concern. Brilliant two-mile novice two seasons ago, questions to answer after last season's lapses. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (3) (28/1 +30%)Glen Kiln |
28/1(+30%) | (3) Glen Kiln 28/1, Improved again when ridden to pick up the pieces but was outclassed when second, beaten 19l, in the Morgiana Hurdle (Grade 1) over 2m1f at Punchestown last time. Likes to make the running and effective between 2m and 2 1/2m; progressive. In fine shape since joining this stable, beat two rivals to take second in the Morgiana. |

In the first two in the last three renewals of the Stayers' Hurdle, TEAHUPOO sets out on the road to Cheltenham again and, as has been the case for the last two seasons, this may be his only run before March. Top performer Lossiemouth denied him a hat-trick of wins in this race last year and he looks the one to beat. Despite winning a Grade 1, Ballyburn's novice chasing campaign didn't live up to expectations. A brilliant novice hurdler, it will be interesting to see how he fares against the selection who is such a solid benchmark in this division. Outpaced in last weekend's Morgiana Hurdle, Glen Kiln should be more at home over 2m4f.

Winner of this race twice before losing out last season, TEAHUPOO can add his name to the list of three-time winners of this race

14/1(+22%) | (3) Super Citizen 14/1, Needed run when fourth beaten 124l in a handicap chase at Sedgefield latest; effective 3m, acts on S, G; inconsistent veteran. Plenty of form last term gives e-w chance; remote on last month's return from summer break. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (4/1 +60%)Court At Slip |
4/1(+60%) | (2) Court At Slip 4/1, Below form, needed run when comfortably held in a handicap chase over 3m at Wetherby last time; top course trainer; effective at 3m, acts on S, G; down again in the weights. While last two starts (a layoff in between) showed some ability remains, he needs better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (9) (5/1 +33%)Auchinlek |
5/1(+33%) | (9) Auchinlek 5/1, Outpaced, ran to form when comfortably held in a handicap chase over 2m7f at Kelso last time; effective 2m4f-3m, acts on S, GS; considered down in the weights. Only six races and latest was easily his closest finish; needs better but this might suit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (25/1 +0%)Bushypark |
25/1(+0%) | (1) Bushypark 25/1, Made too much use of and needed the run when comfortably held in a handicap chase over 3m at Ayr last time. Enjoys making the running and is effective over 3m+, suited by cut. Inconsistent but the handicapper has eased his mark. Did little last season and beaten nearly 50l at Ayr 18 days ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) (20/1 -25%)Gibberwell |
20/1(-25%) | (8) Gibberwell 20/1, Fell early in a handicap chase over 3m at Hexham last time. Effective over 3m+ and acts on soft and good ground. An inconsistent veteran. Effective here; Hexham winner in March and he needs a second look. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (11) (17/2 +23%)Uptown Harry |
17/2(+23%) | (11) Uptown Harry 17/2, Took a step back in the right direction when fourth, beaten 20l, in a handicap chase over 3m at Hexham last time. Effective at 3m, acts with cut, and tends to run well at Carlisle. Has a chance if building on that run. Two wins in the mud here but he's a frequent visitor and does not look the percentage call. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (6/1 -140%)Torosay |
6/1(-140%) | (4) Torosay 6/1, Ran to form when beaten a length off a mark of 90 over 3m at Ayr last time. Effective at 3m and acts on soft and good to soft ground. Has a strong chance if reproducing that latest effort. Did not see 3m2f out in this race last year; staying-on 2nd to Azof Des Mottes at Ayr (3m). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (7) (12/1 +0%)Don Brocco |
12/1(+0%) | (7) Don Brocco 12/1, Needed the run when pulled up in a handicap chase over 3m at Hexham last time. Effective over 3m+ and suited by cut, though his current mark still looks on the stiff side. Seriously hit and miss lately but he won in good style here in February and stays well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (6/1 -100%)Azof Des Mottes |
6/1(-100%) | (6) Azof Des Mottes 6/1, Ran to form when landing a handicap by a length off 80 over 3m at Ayr last time; effective at 3m, acts on S, G; respected up 6lb. Back up 6lb after his Ayr win and unraced beyond 3m but he has to be considered seriously. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (12) (10/1 +60%)Hold The Note |
10/1(+60%) | (12) Hold The Note 10/1, Needed the run when down the field in a handicap chase over 3m at Ayr most recently. Effective from 3m to 3m2f and acts on soft and good to soft ground. Continues to fall in the weights. Has tumbled way down the weights but other runners are currently more persuasive. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (11/2 +39%)Glory Hights |
11/2(+39%) | (5) Glory Hights 11/2, Lost all chance three out when pulled up in a handicap chase over 2m4f at Newcastle last time. Effective from 2m4f to 3m1f and acts on heavy and good to soft ground. Needs to bounce back from a poor chase debut. Sprawled three out when looking a strong contender for third at Newcastle on chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (10) (40/1 -21%)Maid Of Houxty |
40/1(-21%) | (10) Maid Of Houxty 40/1, Needed the run when pulled up in a handicap chase over 2m4f here last time. Suited by 3m and acts on heavy and good to soft ground. Needs to prove her ability remains after an absence. Won at Newcastle (extended 2m7f, heavy) in March 2023, then pulled up here three weeks ago. |

Azof Des Mottes accounted for TOROSAY by a length over 3m at Ayr at the start of the month, but is now 1lb worse off and this extra distance might eke out improvement in the latter. The daughter of Getaway remains on an appealing rating and can reverse that form to strike. Court At Slip has been given a chance by the handicapper after being dropped 3lb for his fifth at Wetherby and needs considering.

A chance is taken on GLORY HIGHTS who ran encouragingly on his chase debut prior to a race-ending mistake three out.

1st (5) (7/4 +13%)Smart Decision |
7/4(+13%) | (5) Smart Decision 7/4, Ran to form when 2l third in a novice hurdle over 2m4f at Wetherby last time. Effective from 2m to 2m4f on soft or good ground; the drop in trip could suit. Won three junior hurdles last season and ran well on recent reappearance; big player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (7/2 +36%)Sir Hobnob |
7/2(+36%) | (4) Sir Hobnob 7/2, Bit below form when comfortably held in a novice hurdle at Stratford last time. Previously in good form and effective from 2m to 2m4f on good or good to soft ground; needs to bounce back. Placed in run-of-the-mill Worcester maiden in September; probably needs to improve. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (11/10 -51%)There Runs Mary |
11/10(-51%) | (6) There Runs Mary 11/10, Yard won this last year. Not fluent but won a maiden hurdle at Ffos Las by 2l last time, proving effective at 2m on heavy or soft ground; looks a really useful mare. Bumper winner; won easily at very skinny odds on recent hurdle debut; obvious contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (50/1 -52%)Golden Prince |
50/1(-52%) | (2) Golden Prince 50/1, Modest debut when comfortably held in a bumper at Chepstow last time. Proven effective at 3m in points but much more is required here. Third in Irish point debut in February but safely held in a bumper last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (40/1 -21%)My Fortune |
40/1(-21%) | (3) My Fortune 40/1, Modest debut when comfortably held in a maiden hurdle at Sandown last time. Trainer in form; yet to find suitable conditions and may do better with time when stepped up in trip. From good jumping family but soundly beaten on both starts (bumper/hurdle). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (40/1 0%)Eaststone Buck's |
40/1(0%) | (1) Eaststone Buck's 40/1, Too green to show anything when pulled up in a 4yo hurdle over 2m3f at Stratford last time. Returning from a long layoff and yet to find suitable conditions; needs more time. With good stable but didn't show any promise in juvenile hurdle in March. |

THERE RUNS MARY was far from fluent on her hurdles bow, but she didn't need to come out of first gear to justify cramped odds. Olly Murphy's mare ought to have learned plenty from that experience, though, and whilst a few of these have something to prove she is expected to go in again. Smart Decision already has three hurdling victories to his name and is the likeliest threat, but there is a suspicion he'll need more to take home gold this time. Sir Hobnob completes the shortlist.

Productive in junior hurdles last season, SMART DECISION is still allowed to run unpenalised in novice races and gets the nod.

Off a short break; effective at 2m with some cut; more to come based on very useful French flat form. French import has come good with a handicap hurdle win and a Flat win (AW), big chance. |

2nd (6) (7/2 +46%)Bowensonfire |
7/2(+46%) | (6) Bowensonfire 7/2, Improved again up in trip when 5 1/4l third in a handicap hurdle over 2m4f at Cheltenham last time. Usually held up; a consistent handicapper effective from 2m to 2m2f and handles any ground. Has been a highly consistent sort, seldom out of the first three, solid place chance. |

3rd (9) (9/1 +25%)Slurricane |
9/1(+25%) | (9) Slurricane 9/1, Improved in first-time cheekpieces to land a handicap by a length off 75 over 12f at Galway last time. A progressive hurdler at 2m who acts on any ground. Fifth to Puturhandstogether in the Fred Winter, Flat winner since unplaced at Listowel. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (11/1 -144%)Last Kingdom |
11/1(-144%) | (2) Last Kingdom 11/1, Improved in first-time cheekpieces to land the Lartigue Handicap Hurdle (Listed) by 3l off 129 at Listowel last time. Top jockey returns; off a short break; effective at 2m on any ground; progressive but revised mark asks more. Raised 8lb for beating Puturhandstogether at Listowel, could be close between the pair. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (18/1 0%)Path D'oroux |
18/1(0%) | (3) Path D'oroux 18/1, Ran to form, just flattening out up the hill when 10l third in a graduation chase at Carlisle last time. Considered a value selection on the balance of his form. Useful 142-rated chaser, modest strike rate over fences, fair hurdler early in career. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (9/2 -50%)Puturhandstogether |
9/2(-50%) | (1) Puturhandstogether 9/2, Travelled well and improved up in trip to land the Irish Cesarewitch by 1/2l off 82 over 2m1f at The Curragh last time. Trained by a top course handler, off a short break, effective at 2m on soft and good; Fred Winter winner on a good flat mark but bit more needed in this sphere. Won the Irish Cesarewitch after second to Last Kingdom at Listowel, good 7lb claimer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (33/1 -18%)Bottler'secret |
33/1(-18%) | (4) Bottler'secret 33/1, Ran to form when comfortably held in the Loughbrown Stakes (Group 3) at The Curragh last time. Wears a visor for the first time but out of form in this sphere. Former smart juvenile hurdler, now on his second trainer since leaving Gavin Cromwell. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (8) (22/1 -100%)Teed Up |
22/1(-100%) | (8) Teed Up 22/1, Improved when 4l third in a handicap over 12f at Leopardstown last time; well treated on last hurdles run where given too much to do; interesting. Better known as a five-time Flat winner, also effective over hurdles, worth a market check. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (11) (14/1 +22%)Luker's Tipple |
14/1(+22%) | (11) Luker's Tipple 14/1, Too much to do but ran to form when 4l third in a handicap hurdle at Navan last time. Blinkered for the first time; effective at 2m on soft or good ground; consistent over hurdles though a little frustrating. Record of six seconds from ten starts over hurdles is off-putting, blinkers tried. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (7) (4/1 +43%)Ataboycharlie |
4/1(+43%) | (7) Ataboycharlie 4/1, Never nearer but returned to form back over hurdles when beaten 1 1/2l off 126 over 2m6f at Galway last time. Effective between 2m and 2m5f on yielding or soft ground; in fair form. Kept good company over fences last season, made a pleasing return to hurdling at Galway. |

Four of these ran in the Lartigue Hurdle at Listowel in September and that four-year-old handicap looks a key formline for this valuable contest. Last Kingdom, a C&D winner here earlier in the year, was always in a good position when winning in first-time cheekpieces at the Kerry venue and is probably still on the right side of the handicapper, despite an 8lb rise. Runner-up at Listowel, Fred Winter winner Puturhandstogether landed a gamble in the Irish Cesarewitch just three days later and has to enter calculations. Only sixth in the Lartigue, LUKER'S TIPPLE ran a better race at Navan last time and blinkers are an interesting addition to the bottom weight.

A hopeful vote goes to ATABOYCHARLIE who kept good company over fences term and made a pleasing return over hurdles at Galway

14/1(-100%) | (6) Ratemenow 14/1, Promising debut under rules when 19l third in a bumper over 2m at Hexham last time; effective at 2m, acts on good to soft; should improve for the initial experience. 19l third of 11 to an impressive winner at Hexham (good to soft; 50-1) three weeks ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (16/1 -100%)Heffalump |
16/1(-100%) | (2) Heffalump 16/1, 5,000 euros Vadamos gelding; half-brother to Kiltealy Briggs, smart at 20f; probably best watched on debut, with trainer having more obvious contenders. 6th foal; half-brother to three winners, including useful Kiltealy Briggs; yard runs three. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (250/1 -150%)Strathcatcha |
250/1(-150%) | (7) Strathcatcha 250/1, Ran poorly when well beaten in a bumper over 2m at Kelso last time; yet to find suitable conditions and faces another tough assignment. Big odds, tailed off on good at Hexham and Kelso three weeks later. |

The one that appeals most is LOVEABLE REPROBATE, who changed hands for 58,000 euros as a three-year-old and goes for the in-form Jamie Snowden team. As a half-brother to hurdle/chase winner Ferdia, it would be no surprise to see him score at the first time of asking. Kilnesare Flight finished second between the flags last year and needs to be monitored in the betting market with Brian Hughes booked. Ratemenow could also have a say.

Ratemenow may prove vulnerable to today's rules newcomers, perhaps headed by KILNESARE FLIGHT and Loveable Reprobate.

11/4(+45%) | (2) Smile Back 11/4, Again ran to a modest level when down the field in a maiden hurdle over 2m at Uttoxeter most recent; likely to want 2m4f-3m over hurdles; could do better now handicapping. Point/bumper winner; some promise in maiden hurdles; can improve on this handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (10/3 +0%)Girl Of Gold |
10/3(+0%) | (1) Girl Of Gold 10/3, Improved when finishing second, beaten a length, in a maiden hurdle over 2m4f at Sedgefield last time; effective at 2m4f/2m5f and acts on soft and good ground; should have more to offer in handicaps. 4th (6) (15/2 +25%)Shesupincourt |
15/2(+25%) | (6) Shesupincourt 15/2, Again below form when comfortably held in a handicap chase over 3m at Hexham last time; effective from 2m4f to 3m and acts on any ground; may do better back over hurdles. Needs to better recent efforts but was a winner here over fences last season. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (7/1 0%)Pooley's Promise |
7/1(0%) | (5) Pooley's Promise 7/1, A bit below form when fourth, beaten 6l, in a handicap hurdle over 2m7f at Uttoxeter last time; suited by 3m and acts on good ground; needs to bounce back. Reportedly benefited from step up to 3m when winning in May; drops back in trip here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (5/1 +23%)Keep It Cool |
5/1(+23%) | (4) Keep It Cool 5/1, A bit below form when well beaten in a handicap hurdle at Huntingdon last time; effective at 2m4f and acts on yielding and good ground; needs to bounce back. Placed in big field on final start in Ireland and ran okay for new stable this month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (80/1 -142%)Annie Nail |
80/1(-142%) | (8) Annie Nail 80/1, Again below form when comfortably held in a handicap hurdle over 3m1f at Plumpton last time; effective from 2m4f to 2m6f and acts on good to soft and good ground; hard to fancy on recent evidence. Won modest Fakenham chase in May but has not shown a great deal since. |

Girl Of Gold has only found one too good in both of her starts over the smaller obstacles and is of interest stepping into a handicap for the first time. However, HIGHBURY HILL made the frame in this class at Chepstow earlier this month and is just 2lb higher. This represents just her third start in a handicap and she looks the way to go. Pooley's Promise is another to watch out for.

Placed in a competitive race for the grade at Chepstow 25 days ago, HIGHBURY HILL (nap) has strong claims.

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (8) (50/1 0%)Let's Go La Fichad |

Three of the most powerful yards are represented by wide-margin point-to-point winners and it will be a surprise if the winner comes from outside that trio of Rules debutants. Gordon Elliott has won four of the last eight renewals and GRANGECLARE PARK, a soft-ground winner for Colin Bowe, is taken to enhance his trainer's good record in this race. Willie Mullins has landed this twice in the last 10 years and Cokoriko gelding Lultimatom is sure to be prominent in the market. A winner on quick ground between the flags, Endless Talking has the assistance of a talented conditional rider and is another that has to be on the shortlist.

GRANGECLARE PARK is marginally preferred to fellow point winners Lultimatom and Endless Talking.
Ths is the racecard key.
