12/1(-85%) | (1) Wholly Boley 12/1, Pulled up in a 2m7f handicap chase at Kelso last time; effective at 3m and needs to bounce back. Irish point winner; second in h'cap on chase debut but not jump well in headgear last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (5/1 -122%)Jirko |
5/1(-122%) | (3) Jirko 5/1, Ran to form on chase debut, flattening out late when 4 1/2l third in a 2m7f handicap chase at Kelso; effective at 3m and should improve for the run. Maiden; creditable third at Kelso on chase debut last month; better expected; chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (12/1 +0%)Joie More |
12/1(+0%) | (7) Joie More 12/1, Improved from debut but never threatened when fourth, beaten 12l, in a 2m7f handicap chase at Kelso last time; effective around 2 1/2m but currently out of form. Fair form in points/hurdles; decent chase fourth last time but a bit to find with Jirko. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (3/1 +54%)Swallows Song |
3/1(+54%) | (2) Swallows Song 3/1, Needed the run when well beaten in a 2m7f handicap hurdle at Kelso last time; well treated on old form but could play a part. Bumper winner; yet to win over jumps and returns to chasing for first time for two years. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (10) (9/2 +44%)Didntgotwenty |
9/2(+44%) | (10) Didntgotwenty 9/2, Bit below form when flattening out late up in trip, finishing comfortably held in a handicap hurdle here last time; needs to find improvement. Sound run when 3rd in h'cap hurdle in October; quite interesting on chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (14/1 -17%)Lewa House |
14/1(-17%) | (6) Lewa House 14/1, Ran to form but tired late after a series of errors when beaten 10l in a handicap chase here last time; effective from 2 1/2m to 3m and in fair form despite a modest strike rate. 1-22 over hurdles; fair run when second at Hexham in March; has an each-way chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) (11/4 +58%)Wainwright |
11/4(+58%) | (8) Wainwright 11/4, Made mistakes but had every chance when a bit below form over shorter, finishing comfortably held in a 2m4f handicap hurdle here last time; returns from a long layoff and looks a value contender on balance of form off generous mark based on hurdle form. Signs of promise over hurdles and worth considering on this switch to chasing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (20/1 +39%)Red Ned |
20/1(+39%) | (5) Red Ned 20/1, Continued in poor form when well beaten in a handicap hurdle here last time; needs to find more switched to fences. Ex-Irish pointer; 2nd in a bumper in 2023; modest efforts over hurdles; headgear tried. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (22/1 -144%)Worth The Walk |
22/1(-144%) | (9) Worth The Walk 22/1, Outpaced and never threatened when well beaten in a 2m4f novice hurdle at Sedgefield last time; returns from a long layoff and could improve significantly. Winning Irish pointer; midest form over hurdles; improvement expected on h'cap/chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (28/1 -100%)Tory Hill |
28/1(-100%) | (4) Tory Hill 28/1, Below form up in trip on chase debut when well beaten in a handicap chase here last time; returns from a long layoff with a first-time tongue-tie; yet to show much under rules. Second in four Irish points; only seventh on chase debut but has since had a wind op. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (11) (28/1 -56%)Knightphase |
28/1(-56%) | (11) Knightphase 28/1, Pulled up in a 2m7f handicap chase at Kelso last time; effective at 3m and a 3m point winner, though yet to show much under rules. Winning Irish pointer but hard to fancy having been pulled up on three of four hurdle runs. |

JIRKO made a bright beginning to his chasing career when third at Kelso, showing up for a long way before the lack of a recent run probably told. With the experience behind him, he can take the necessary step forward. Wholly Boley's jumping let him down last time, but is a player if judged instead on his previous second at Hexham. Better is anticipated from Wainwright now he goes over the larger obstacles, and the same can be said for Didntgotwenty.

Having shown promise over hurdles WAINWRIGHT is taken to get off the mark on his chase debut. Jirko is another to consider.

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (6/5 -50%)Shipbourne |
6/5(-50%) | (1) Shipbourne 6/5, Quickened clear cosily when a 4 1/4l winner in a Newbury maiden on debut; effective at 7f and handles all-weather; could defy a penalty. Easy win at Newbury on debut in October (10-11f; 6.5f, soft); penalised but may be smart. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

50/1(-25%) | (4) Central Command 50/1, Modest debut when beaten 10l in a novice here; bred to be suited by around 7f; has plenty to find. 20-1, green and never in the hunt on last month's C&D debut; bred to do better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (100/1 -25%)Aneirin's Sword |
100/1(-25%) | (2) Aneirin's Sword 100/1, Showed nothing on debut when well beaten in a maiden at Lingfield on sole start; has speed in the pedigree but everything to prove. 25-1 when last of ten on last month's Lingfield debut (7f, AW); not easily recommended. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

80/1(-186%) | (8) Kohana Nation 80/1, 19 Mar; 70,000gns Sioux Nation colt; faces a tough enough task on debut. 70,000gns yearling; unraced dam from a fair family; others have stronger paper claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (9) (50/1 -52%)Mountbatten |
50/1(-52%) | (9) Mountbatten 50/1, 14 Mar; 140,000 euros Japan colt; half-brother to Miss Yoda, smart at 11f; dam high-class over 8f including at 2yo; wide draw. 140,000euros half-brother to five winners out of a Group 2 winner; check betting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (11) (28/1 +15%)Oro Palacio |
28/1(+15%) | (11) Oro Palacio 28/1, 16 May; 57,000 euros Ten Sovereigns colt; half-brother to Gypsy Queen, very useful at 6f. 57,000euros half-brother to 6f winner Gypsy Queen (RPR 84); likely to come on for the run. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

100/1(-150%) | (7) Keep It Classic 100/1, Never threatened when down the field in a maiden at Lingfield last time; likely to need 7/8f and more time to develop. Down the field in two 7f novice runs this autumn; significant improvement required. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (5) (150/1 -200%)Cincinnati Gold |
150/1(-200%) | (5) Cincinnati Gold 150/1, 4 Apr; 80,000gns Sergei Prokofiev colt; half-brother to Jasour, high-class at 6f; wide draw. 80,000gnns half-brother to Group 2 winner Jasour; stable has modest strike-rate with 2yos. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (12) (150/1 -200%)White Deer |
150/1(-200%) | (12) White Deer 150/1, Outpaced but ran to form when beaten 5 1/4l in a novice over 8f at Bath last time; tongue-tie fitted for the first time; wide draw; likely to want 1m+ and probably one for handicaps. Some promise in two turf runs for R Hughes; sold 12,000gns in October; improvement needed. |

The impeccably-bred SHIPBOURNE was all the rage for his Newbury introduction and didn't disappoint, landing the odds by more than four lengths. The jury is out as to what he actually beat, but there was no denying he was very impressive and can take the next step up the ladder. Ralph Beckett's colt faces some really interesting newcomers, not least Aqpan, who cost 400,000gns as a yearling and is a half-brother to an Italian Oaks winner. Northern Empire is a 220,000-euro son of Night Of Thunder, while Godolphin's Frankel colt Hidden Force is another first-timer to take into account.

Shipbourne looked useful at Newbury but HIDDEN FORCE is bred to be smart and can enhance his stable's fine record here.

1st (1) (4/1 -14%)Atreides |
4/1(-14%) | (1) Atreides 4/1, Ran to form when beaten 3l off a mark of 95 over 2m6f at Fontwell last time. Wears a visor for the first time and is best around 2m4f on heavy or good ground. Still a maiden but improving over fences. Longstanding maiden but he's finished close up at Fontwell in last two runs; new headgear. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (2/1 -14%)Birdman Bob |
2/1(-14%) | (3) Birdman Bob 2/1, Returned to form back at his favoured venue after a break, landing a handicap by 10l off 85 here last time. Effective over 2 1/2m on good ground and goes well at Plumpton. May have a bit more to offer now he's got his head in front. Reappeared with a dominant display over C&D last month; big player again up 7lb. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (14/1 -27%)Hilltown |
14/1(-27%) | (5) Hilltown 14/1, Pulled up in a handicap hurdle over 2m5f here last time. Better suited by further and had been progressive over fences when last seen. 3m1f chase winner but back from long absence when pulled up (hurdles) last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (15/2 +17%)Crac De Megaudais |
15/2(+17%) | (4) Crac De Megaudais 15/2, Probably needed the run when comfortably held in a handicap chase at Huntingdon last time. Value selection on the balance of his form off fair mark based on hurdles efforts. Overall record of 1-11 and he's been well held in both runs over fences; others preferred. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (6/4 +14%)King Of Highways |
6/4(+14%) | (2) King Of Highways 6/4, Returned to form up in trip on chase debut when beaten 2l off 93 at Lingfield last time. Effective over 2 1/2m on good to soft or good ground. Fairly treated on hurdle form and should improve with experience, likely to stay 3m in time. Promising third on handicap/chase debut at Lingfield and he's in the mix for in-form yard. |

Andy Irvine's last two handicap runners have been winners and BIRDMAN BOB, who won nicely over C&D at the start of last month, has an excellent chance of continuing in that vein of form, despite a 7lb rise. King Of Highways ran with credit on his chase debut when third at Lingfield and is likely to be competitive off the same mark. The switch of headgear to a visor might yield some improvement from Atreides.

The vote goes to BIRDMAN BOB, who reappeared with a 10l win over C&D last month. King Of Highways is feared most.

1st (1) (1/4 +59%)Upon Tweed |
1/4(+59%) | (1) Upon Tweed 1/4, Went clear cosily for a very promising debut when winning a novice hurdle here by 8 1/2l last time. Effective at 2m and acts on soft and good to soft ground. Form working out well and could defy his penalty. Unbeaten in Newcastle bumper and a C&D novice; stiffer task but should go well again. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (9) (9/2 -13%)Stede Bonnet |
9/2(-13%) | (9) Stede Bonnet 9/2, A bit below bumper form on hurdle debut when comfortably held in a maiden over 2m1f at Galway last time. In good form prior and returns from a break. Effective at 2m, acts on good ground; dual bumper winner who should improve. Two bumper wins in the summer; below-par on hurdles debut but an interesting contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (10) (7/1 -17%)Takenasred |
7/1(-17%) | (10) Takenasred 7/1, Improved from his debut when second, beaten 5l, in a maiden hurdle over 2m1f at Down Royal last time. Effective from 2m to 2 1/2m and acts on soft ground. Strong Irish form and should be competitive. Solid run when second in 2m1f novice at Down Royal last time; sound each-way chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (28/1 -273%)Like Minded |
28/1(-273%) | (7) Like Minded 28/1, 47,000 euros Wings Of Eagles gelding; half-brother to Hawthorn Street, fair performer at 19f. 37,000euros 3yo; half-brother to a point winner; worth a market check on racecourse debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) (22/1 -100%)One Mill Harbour |
22/1(-100%) | (8) One Mill Harbour 22/1, Travelled and jumped well to win a handicap chase at Hexham by 7l last time, looking well handicapped when improving up 5lb. Absent for a very long spell and needs to find more back over hurdles. Won three h'cap chases in 2023; watching brief advised back over hurdles after long break. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (28/1 +30%)Ballyedward |
28/1(+30%) | (2) Ballyedward 28/1, Outpaced but improved from his debut when finishing 9l third in a bumper over 2m1f at Down Royal on his latest run. Has plenty to find to be competitive here. Promise in Irish points/bumpers but needs to improve on this switch to hurdling. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (11) (33/1 +67%)The Coffey Boy |
33/1(+67%) | (11) The Coffey Boy 33/1, Outpaced but improved from debut when comfortably held in a novice hurdle here last time. Point winner who may need further than 2m to be effective under rules. Irish point winner who was a fair C&D sixth on his second hurdles run here last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (6) (50/1 0%)L'arme De Bonheur |
50/1(0%) | (6) L'arme De Bonheur 50/1, Had every chance but ran below bumper form when down the field in a novice hurdle here last time. Effective at 2m and acts on good ground. Bumper form has been franked and he may have more to offer over hurdles. Second in a bumper for Tom George but tailed off over C&D on hurdles/stable debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (4) (200/1 0%)Ck O'mara |
200/1(0%) | (4) Ck O'mara 200/1, A bit free and modest on hurdle debut when well beaten in a novice hurdle here on his only start. Likely to need more time to progress. By Shirocco; beaten 63l when 12th of 14 over C&D on debut; improvement likely. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (5) (300/1 -50%)Defying Gravity |
300/1(-50%) | (5) Defying Gravity 300/1, Outpaced and below form when finishing down the field in a novice hurdle here last time. May require further than 2m under rules to show best effect. By Shirocco; well beaten both runs over hurdles; best watched for now. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (250/1 -25%)Chiefman |
250/1(-25%) | (3) Chiefman 250/1, Made mistakes and ran poorly on his hurdle debut when down the field in a novice event at Kelso last time. Returning from a short break; has regressed markedly on the Flat and is best watched over hurdles. Modest performer at up to 1m3f on the Flat; tailed off on hurdles debut; others stronger. |

UPON TWEED beat the promising Conman John in a Newcastle bumper and again won as he liked over C&D on his reappearance. He looks a smart prospect but will need to be to successfully concede weight to Stede Bonnet, who won a couple of NH Flat races before a satisfactory hurdling debut at the Galway Festival. Takenasred took a big step forward when runner-up at Down Royal, while Like Minded is an interesting newcomer. One Mill Harbour might be using this to blow away any cobwebs before a return to fences.

Having won his two starts so far in good style UPON TWEED is taken to make it three out of three. Takenasred is next best.

1st (5) (8/15 0%)You'll Think Of Me |
8/15(0%) | (5) You'll Think Of Me 8/15, Ran to form when beaten 1/4l into third in a nursery over 7f at Dundalk last time. Trainer in form; effective from 6-7f and acts on yielding, good and all-weather. Well bred and consistent in maidens; a big player on stable debut. Improved with each run for D O'Brien in Ireland; strong form claims on stable debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (3/1 -33%)Generous Rascal |
3/1(-33%) | (1) Generous Rascal 3/1, Improved from debut with experience when switched to the all-weather, winning a novice here by a neck last time. Off a short break; effective at 6f. Form of that win was nothing special but he looks competitive under a penalty. Improved on debut effort when winning over C&D in October; capable of better but penalised. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (16/1 -14%)Mohmentous |
16/1(-14%) | (2) Mohmentous 16/1, 12 Apr; 7,500gns Mohaather colt; half-brother to American Tale, useful at 9f; dam useful at 7f at 2yo. 7,500gns half-brother to two winners; useful standard to aim at on debut; check betting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (66/1 -100%)Pedros Dream |
66/1(-100%) | (3) Pedros Dream 66/1, 30 Jan; Dream Ahead colt; half-brother to Holbache, fair at 6f; dam useful at 6f; yard not known for debut winners. Half-brother to prolific sprint winner Holbache (RPR 79); yard not known for 2yo success. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (18/1 +18%)Blueaway |
18/1(+18%) | (4) Blueaway 18/1, 4 Apr; 75,000 euros breeze-up purchase by Blue Point; half-sister to Go Angellica, very smart at 8f; hood first time. 75,000euros breeze-up 2yo; half-sister to 7 winners (including Listed); hooded for debut. |

Generous Rascal showed the benefit of a previous outing and his appreciation for the switch to the all-weather when justifying favouritism over C&D. As a result, he must shoulder a penalty and will do well to successfully concede 12lb to YOU'LL THINK OF ME. The daughter of Kingman showed a fair level of ability for Donnacha O'Brien in Ireland, earning a rating of 82, and can strike at the first time of asking for Kevin Philippart De Foy. Blueaway, a 75,000-euro breeze-up purchase, is the most appealing newcomer.

Generous Rascal is open to further progress but conceding 12lb to YOU'LL THINK OF ME may prove beyond him.

1st (2) (1/3 +38%)Fresh Kicks |
1/3(+38%) | (2) Fresh Kicks 1/3, Produced a very promising debut, quickening well before being caught late by a strong, race-fit stayer when second, beaten a length, in a novice hurdle at Kempton; second run after wind operation; effective over 2m5f on good ground and can win soon. Made bold bid and was only just caught on hurdling debut at Kempton; strong contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (8/1 +27%)The Two Harrys |
8/1(+27%) | (5) The Two Harrys 8/1, Keen and needed the run when well beaten in a maiden hurdle over 2m3f at Chepstow latest; effective at 2m and looks one for handicaps, likely to stay further in time. Promising fourth on hurdling debut at Lingfield but was tailed off at Chepstow last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (9/2 -29%)Hillwalk |
9/2(-29%) | (4) Hillwalk 9/2, Below form when 16l third in a bumper over 2m2f at Fontwell on his most recent run; returning from a long layoff and looks an unlikely alternative. Placed in two bumpers last season and needs watching in market on hurdling debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (14/1 -17%)Crest Of Valour |
14/1(-17%) | (1) Crest Of Valour 14/1, Outpaced and modest on debut when well beaten in a bumper over 2m2f at Fontwell on his only start; difficult to fancy. Well held in sole bumper but he has some good jumpers in pedigree; one to keep an eye on. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (50/1 -213%)Kill The Groove |
50/1(-213%) | (6) Kill The Groove 50/1, Ran green under pressure and below form when 58l third in a novice hurdle over 2m6f at Newton Abbot last time; effective around 2¼m on good ground and probably one for handicaps after this. Mixed record in seven runs so far and has something to prove on return for new yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (66/1 -100%)Fury Lad |
66/1(-100%) | (3) Fury Lad 66/1, Showed minor promise on debut and looked in need of a stiffer test when comfortably held in a maiden bumper over 2m at Taunton last time; absent for a very lengthy period and has it all to do. Makes hurdling debut after 599 days off and is best watched. |

FRESH KICKS appears to set the standard based on his first run over hurdles when runner-up at Kempton and Nicky Henderson's gelding looks to have an ideal opportunity to go one better. Hillwalk finished second to a useful prospect at Chepstow in November of last year and that kind of form would give him every chance now running over hurdles for the first time. Crest Of Valour is entitled to step forward from his Fontwell debut.

This can go to FRESH KICKS, who was only just caught on his hurdling debut at Kempton and sets the standard on that form.

9/1(-29%) | (2) Kelvin Forlonge 9/1, Outpaced but ran to form when comfortably held in a 2m7f novice hurdle at Kelso last time; effective at 2-2½m. Consistent in novice company and could progress now handicapping over a longer trip. Well beaten in two Kelso novices this term; likely improver up in trip on handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (4/1 +33%)Shoeshine Boy |
4/1(+33%) | (3) Shoeshine Boy 4/1, Showed signs of a return to form when third, beaten 14l, in a 2m7f handicap hurdle at Hexham under a positive ride. Effective at 3m and suited by plenty of cut; on a fair mark if building on that revival. Dual C&D winner; on a good mark and, after decent third last time; leading contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (16/1 +11%)Coventry |
16/1(+11%) | (6) Coventry 16/1, Outpaced and never threatened when well beaten in a 2m4f handicap hurdle at Perth last time. Effective at around 2½m but can prove a tricky ride and appears to be regressing. 1-29, that win coming in 2021; not been in best of form; plenty to prove now. |

3/1(-60%) | (5) Take A Hike 3/1, Improved down in grade when winning a 2m5f Kelso handicap by 4l off a mark of 79. Effective at 2½-3m and acts on soft and good ground; progressing over hurdles. Off the mark over 2m5f at Kelso last time; stays 3m well and has a chance despite 5lb rise. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) (3/1 +0%)Zeezee |
3/1(+0%) | (8) Zeezee 3/1, Ran to form when second, beaten 13l, in a 2m5f handicap hurdle at Sedgefield last time. Trainer in good form; effective at 2½-3m and acts on good ground; remains in form and not fully exposed in handicaps. Maiden; second at Perth and Sedgefield on last two starts; each-way chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (5/1 +58%)Boolamore Classic |
5/1(+58%) | (7) Boolamore Classic 5/1, Pulled up in a 2m7f Kelso handicap chase last time; course winner has a chance if returning to better form. 2m5f winner here last term; back on the same mark but has not been in best of form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (12/1 -20%)Bollin Matilda |
12/1(-20%) | (4) Bollin Matilda 12/1, Pulled up in a 2m7f handicap hurdle at Hexham last time. Effective at 3m and suited by cut but needs to prove her ability remains after a long absence. Two wins on soft/heavy in April 2024; has run only twice since; bit to prove now. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (1) (25/1 +24%)Our Sam |
25/1(+24%) | (1) Our Sam 25/1, Pulled up in a 3m1f handicap hurdle at Catterick last time; blinkers applied for the first time. Effective at 3m and prefers some cut in the ground but remains inconsistent. Four-time winner in 2023; only glimpses of that form since; blinkers tried; bit to prove. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (10) (25/1 -79%)Euchan Falls |
25/1(-79%) | (10) Euchan Falls 25/1, Pulled up in a 3m1f handicap chase at Cartmel last time; returning from a break and lots to prove back over hurdles. Two hurdle wins in 2023; mainly chasing since; 4lb out of the h'cap on return to hurdling. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (33/1 +0%)Solway Primrose |
33/1(+0%) | (9) Solway Primrose 33/1, Pulled up in a 2m7f handicap hurdle at Uttoxeter last time after a short break. Effective at 3m and suited by cut but needs to prove her ability remains after time off. Hexham win in November 2023; only two runs twice since, pulling up latest after long break. |

This could be another fine opportunity for TAKE A HIKE, who returned to form in no uncertain terms at Kelso last month. The seven-year-old is now 5lb higher, but a few of these arrive with a bit to prove and she might not need much more. Zeezee continues to knock at the door and is sure to play a leading role, while dual C&D winner Shoeshine Boy showed a bit more at Hexham latest.

The pick is SHOESHINE BOY (nap) who is running into form and can take advantage of his current good mark. Take A Hike is next best.

1st (2) (11/5 +2%)American Flight |
11/5(+2%) | (2) American Flight 11/5, Improved again when landing a handicap by a short-head off 66 at Newcastle last time; suited by 5-6f and a sound surface; 1lb rise looks lenient and there may be more to come. 2-2 since a tongue-tie went on; fine attitude at Newcastle latest; may do better still. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (10/1 +29%)Wisetanck |
10/1(+29%) | (3) Wisetanck 10/1, Below form when beaten 7l in a novice at Southwell last time; looks best at 6f and acts on all-weather; probably little improvement to come and current mark appears about right. Some promise in three AW novice/maiden runs but improvement a must now handicapping. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (85/40 -13%)Flash Rascal |
85/40(-13%) | (1) Flash Rascal 85/40, Back to form when landing a handicap by 2l off 65 at Chelmsford last time; effective over 5/6f and acts on all-weather; small, stocky colt, drier surface suits and his mark remains reasonable. Strong finish to win at Chelmsford last month (6f; AW debut); that form franked; contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (9/2 +44%)My Dad Tom |
9/2(+44%) | (4) My Dad Tom 9/2, Had every chance but ran below form when beaten 3 1/2l off 68 over 7f at Southwell last time; speedily bred, effective over 6-7f, and was in form until latest effort, remains competitive. Promising 2nd on nursery debut (6f, good) before looking stretched by 7f latest; unexposed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (12/1 -20%)Ladiapur |
12/1(-20%) | (6) Ladiapur 12/1, Never threatened after missing the break when beaten 5l in a nursery at Chelmsford last time; tongue-tie first time; sprint-bred and suited by a sound surface; needs to break on terms but mark demands improvement. Unable to land a blow behind Flash Rascal at Chelmsford latest; tough mark; new tongue-tie. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (5/1 -25%)Torbados |
5/1(-25%) | (5) Torbados 5/1, Ran to form and did his best work late when beaten 1 1/2l off 64 over 7f at Lingfield last time; effective over 6/7f and acts on all-weather; more to come and mark looks fair. Better effort when 3rd of 14 on h'cap debut 7 weeks ago (7f, AW); up 2lb and down in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (125/1 -279%)Brightling |
125/1(-279%) | (7) Brightling 125/1, Down the field in a nursery at Bath most recently; cheekpieces first time and off a short break; effective over 5/6f but not yet proven on fast ground; fair mark on best form but unreliable. Two wins for R Millman in July; up in class for stable debut; cheekpieces now reached for. |

AMERICAN FLIGHT was the outsider of three when attempting to supplement a C&D triumph at Newcastle, but she did so in gutsy fashion and there may be even more to come off just a 1lb higher figure. Flash Rascal improved for the switch to an artificial surface, breaking his duck at Chelmsford, and the third has won since. Torbados and My Dad Tom both drop from 7f with claims, while Wisetanck could leave previous efforts behind now entering the nursery ranks.

The switch to AW saw FLASH RASCAL (nap) run out an impressive winner at Chelmsford and that form has been well advertised since.

1st (3) (7/4 +13%)General Briar |
7/4(+13%) | (3) General Briar 7/4, Stable won this race last year. Ran to form when finishing 4l third in a maiden hurdle over 2m5f here last time; effective up to 2m5f and acts on soft and good to soft ground. May find this trip on the sharp side. Made a promising start over hurdles this autumn and was third over C&D latest; shortlisted. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (9/4 -20%)Cueros |
9/4(-20%) | (1) Cueros 9/4, Improved up in grade when finishing second, beaten 6l, in the Introductory Hurdle at Wetherby last time; effective around 2m and acts on good ground. Progressive type who could defy a penalty. Won on hurdle/stable debut at Newcastle before finishing second at Wetherby; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (6/5 +31%)Crest Of Stars |
6/5(+31%) | (2) Crest Of Stars 6/5, Quickened and ran to form when benefitting from a drop in grade to win a maiden bumper at Newton Abbot over 2m1f by 2l last time; looks the main alternative with promise of more to come over hurdles. Made all in a Newton Abbot bumper and he could have a good future over hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (25/1 -25%)Celtic Queen |
25/1(-25%) | (6) Celtic Queen 25/1, Was rear and outpaced, never a factor on Flat debut when down the field in a 10f novice at Kempton last time; usually held up and needs to improve. Placed in two bumpers but returns after wind op and has bit to prove on hurdling debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (250/1 -400%)Major Major |
250/1(-400%) | (5) Major Major 250/1, Ran to form when second, beaten 3l, in a handicap over 11f at Southwell last time; returning from a short break and hard to recommend here. Triple Flat winner but this looks a tough enough starting point over hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (200/1 -100%)My Lovely Horse |
200/1(-100%) | (7) My Lovely Horse 200/1, Pulled up in a maiden hurdle over 2m2f at Fontwell last time; may require more time to develop over hurdles. Placed in two point bumpers but was pulled up on hurdling debut last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (80/1 -100%)Suzy Wood |
80/1(-100%) | (8) Suzy Wood 80/1, Outpaced but kept on for a modest effort when 23l third in a maiden hurdle here last time; effective at 2m and may need further in time. Hasn't shown a great deal in four runs so far and others are preferred. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (4) (125/1 -25%)Lord Of The Glance |
125/1(-25%) | (4) Lord Of The Glance 125/1, Outpaced and never threatened when down the field in a novice hurdle at Stratford last time; wears a tongue-tie for the first time. Effective at 2m but yet to show form over hurdles. Well held in two bumpers and things haven't gone well in three hurdle runs; opposable. |

Cueros made the perfect start to his hurdling career at Newcastle and lost little in defeat at Wetherby next time. He should progress further, but might struggle to give 7lb to CREST OF STARS. The four-year-old landed a Newton Abbot bumper on his return in October but is sure to be better over an obstacle, especially given that he is a half-brother to the smart Ashdale Bob. General Briar is another to consider.

Bumper winner CREST OF STARS is a half-brother to a smart hurdler and could have a good future at this new discipline.

Irish point winner; has shown hurdle ability; bred to do well over fences; S Bowen up. |

11/4(-22%) | (2) Heads Or Harps 11/4, Made too much use of and needed the run when comfortably held in a handicap chase at Kelso last time; had been in good form previously; effective at 2m and acts on soft; progressive until reappearance. Progressive over fences in the spring, easy C&D winner in March; low-key return at Kelso. |

Up and down this winter; close up (2m4f) two starts ago but lesser run since; trip query. |

7/1(+30%) | (6) Southey 7/1, Ran to form when 16l third in a conditions race over 3m at Portrush on his most recent run; returns from a short break and has a bit to find. Won Irish point before well held hurdling and in a point; first handicap on chase debut. |

|U| (5) (8/1 +71%)Langdale Lane |
8/1(+71%) | (5) Langdale Lane 8/1, Had every chance but needed the run when comfortably held in a handicap hurdle over 2m4f here last time; has a chance if sharper today. Had just 4 runs since 2m4f hurdle win in early 2023; trip query on chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (7/2 +22%)Rock On Jet |
7/2(+22%) | (3) Rock On Jet 7/2, Ran to form in a stronger race than his latest win when fourth, beaten 7l, in a handicap hurdle over 2m at Hexham; returning from a long layoff and may stay a little further. Winning handicap hurdle debut here (2m) in January; creditable chase debut; had wind op. |

HEADS OR HARPS let favourite-backers down at Kelso, but that was his seasonal return and it might be worth giving him another chance. The eight-year-old still has few miles on the clock, although the same can be said of Southey, who was a winner between the flags in May and is worth considering back under Rules. Rock On Jet and Arthur's Quay shouldn't be far away either.

Truckers Cruising and Southey can figure but C&D winner HEADS OR HARPS is forgiven a low-key return to action.

28/1(-56%) | (9) Who's Lope 28/1, 18 Mar; Lope De Vega colt; half-brother to Who's Glen, very useful from 16f to 19f; dam high-class at 9f; top course trainer; top trainer. Has useful connections; winning sibling did best over staying trips so might need further. |

40/1(+0%) | (5) Kaladan 40/1, Ran to form when comfortably held in a novice at Newbury last time; sire a sprinter but stamina on dam's side; can do better down in grade. Both runs on soft turf, showing more when upped to 1m latest; type to do better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (8) (80/1 -264%)Level Look |
80/1(-264%) | (8) Level Look 80/1, 3 May; Passing Glance gelding; half-brother to Good Shot, moderate at 9f; dam very useful at 12f; top course trainer; top trainer. Dam half-sister to Elm Park, Group 1 winner as 2yo for yard, 6-29 with 2yos here in 2025. |

Colourband has been gelded since his Salisbury third, which is probably the best form on offer, but he comes up against some really interesting debutants. Heading that list is King's Trail, a Sea The Stars colt out of a Group 3 winner who finished second in the Prix Rothschild. Cockade has a nice blend of speed and stamina in his pedigree but so does WINDBREAKER, whose price rose from 100,000gns as a foal to 375,000gns less than a year later and he gets the nod.

Several well-connected beginners from top yards who could well prove smart prospects so KING'S TRAIL is just a tentative choice.

16/1(+0%) | (5) Kitsilano 16/1, Below form when up in grade and comfortably held in a 2m3f handicap hurdle at Fontwell last time; well treated on old hurdle form but needs to prove ability remains. Back from long absence with heavy defeat for new yard; lots to prove now back over fences. |

3rd (2) (9/2 +55%)Jackpot Cash |
9/2(+55%) | (2) Jackpot Cash 9/2, Disappointing on chase return when comfortably held in a handicap chase over 2m5f at Hereford last time; tongue-tie on for the first time; well treated on hurdle form but faces a stiff mark after beating little in the spring; likely to need a career best. Disappointing in three runs this autumn and has something to prove back at this trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (2/1 -23%)Touquet |
2/1(-23%) | (4) Touquet 2/1, Improved from debut under a positive ride when beaten a neck off 93 over 2m at Lingfield last time; trainer in good form; effective around 2½m and a course winner over hurdles; looks on a fair mark if repeating that improvement. Turned things around with close call behind Jorebel at Lingfield 13 days ago; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (10/1 +44%)Miss Fedora |
10/1(+44%) | (6) Miss Fedora 10/1, Outpaced and needed the run when comfortably held in a 2m handicap chase at Hexham last time; effective at 2m and acts on soft and good ground; has a good Plumpton record but remains unreliable. Dual C&D winner but she's lost her way and needs to get back on track. |

JOREBEL has gone from strength to strength since scoring at Fontwell in September, winning three of his four starts, including on his fencing bow at Lingfield. Although he only prevailed narrowly, he should have plenty more in the locker and is fancied to go in again, despite a 6lb rise. Touquet was defeated by the selection at Lingfield, but is 1lb better off. Jackpot Cash has struggled of late, but perhaps the application of a first-time tongue-tie will help him.

The vote goes to JOREBEL (nap) who has won four of his last five and held off Touquet at Lingfield on his recent chasing debut.

Effective at 2½m and acts on good to soft ground; inconsistent but back on last winning mark. On same mark as Musselburgh win in February; decent 2nd at Perth in May; not as good since. |

2nd (2) (7/2 -56%)Forest Blaze |
7/2(-56%) | (2) Forest Blaze 7/2, Had every chance but ran a bit below form when up in trip, possibly not staying, when comfortably held in a 2m7f handicap hurdle at Hexham last time. Cheekpieces on for the first time; effective at 2½m and could bounce back. Two wins last term; should come on for his latest run; interesting with cheekpieces tried. |

11/4(+45%) | (4) So Many Roads 11/4, Needed the run when well beaten in a handicap hurdle here last time. Effective at 2½m and suited by plenty of cut but tends to be inconsistent. Only win was here in January 2023 (2m4f); some fair efforts this year and a possible. |

4th (1) (9/1 -125%)Fostered Phil |
9/1(-125%) | (1) Fostered Phil 9/1, Scored by a length off a mark of 98 at Perth in September; outpaced and below form when seventh beaten 9l off 101 last time. Effective from 2m to 2½m and remains well treated on old form. Perth winner in September; fair efforts last three starts and has an each-way chance. |

5th (8) (12/1 -20%)Rock N Roll Champ |
12/1(-20%) | (8) Rock N Roll Champ 12/1, Needed the run when well beaten in a handicap hurdle at Carlisle last time. Effective at 2½m but has been in poor form. 0-9; fair fourth over 2m4f at Hexham in May; rather disappointing since; others stronger. |

6th (7) (9/4 +10%)Laddie Cooper Mia |
9/4(+10%) | (7) Laddie Cooper Mia 9/4, Returned to form, suited by a positive ride when beaten 4l off 78 over 2m5f at Sedgefield last time. Trainer in good form; effective at 2½m and acts on good ground; needs to build on recent revival. Ex-Nigel Hawke; creditable 4th on stable debut; first run on soft ground; a possible. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (5) (18/1 +64%)Love That |
18/1(+64%) | (5) Love That 18/1, Needed the run when finishing down the field in a handicap hurdle here most recently. Effective at 2½m but currently out of form. Point winner in 2024; not progressed in handicap hurdles but on a good mark as a result. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (9) (9/1 +36%)Flying Sandpiper |
9/1(+36%) | (9) Flying Sandpiper 9/1, Improved when fourth beaten 7¼l in a 2m5f handicap hurdle at Kelso last time, just tiring late back from a break. Effective at 2½m and needs to back up that latest improvement. Career best when fourth over 2m5f when 6lb out the h'cap last time; softer going a concern. |

LADDIE COOPER MIA made a pleasing reappearance at Sedgefield and that should have blown away any cobwebs. Adam Nicol's mare remains unexposed over hurdles and could be more than capable from her current mark. The application of first-time cheekpieces may give a boost to Forest Blaze, who was disappointing at Hexham. C&D winner So Many Roads might also improve upon his seasonal return, while the veteran Fostered Phil is just one more to consider.

In an unappealing race FOREST BLAZE, a dual winner last season, is taken to get the better of Laddie Cooper Mia.

7/2(+0%) | (1) Studious 7/2, Bit free but returned to form when landing a handicap by 2 1/2l off 68 at Newcastle last time. Effective at 7/8f with form mainly on all-weather. Unreliable and a revised mark demands more. Three Tapeta wins, latest at Newcastle (1m) last week; 6lb penalty; Polytrack query. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (8/1 +0%)Antiquity |
8/1(+0%) | (7) Antiquity 8/1, Too much to do having missed the break but returned to form when beaten 3/4l off 66 over 9f at Wolverhampton last time. Usually held up and effective around 8f on all-weather. Enthusiasm can waver but fairly treated if building on that effort. Well treated; slow starts have cost him on last two starts but did well in 4th latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (18/1 -29%)Volto Di Medusa |
18/1(-29%) | (3) Volto Di Medusa 18/1, Met trouble late and had too much to do when beaten 6l in a Newcastle handicap last time. Trainer in form. Effective at 8-10f on all-weather and may prefer a slightly stiffer test but not dismissed. Won AW debut (1m) in August; had the odd excuse since; more needed for switch to Polytrack. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (2) (33/1 -65%)Lechuga Lad |
33/1(-65%) | (2) Lechuga Lad 33/1, No obvious excuse when down the field in a 10f handicap at Yarmouth most recently. Suited by 10f and acts on all-weather. Needs to settle better and has been inconsistent. Won over 1m2f (turf) in July; soundly beaten on AW either side and back on turf since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (11) (16/1 +0%)Springbok |
16/1(+0%) | (11) Springbok 16/1, Too keen and failed to get home when fourth beaten 4l in a Southwell handicap latest. Effective at 8f on all-weather. Down further in the weights but recent form remains moderate. Yet to make imprint in handicaps despite weights drop; needs extra for switch to Polytrack. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (4) (33/1 -32%)Dashing Roger |
33/1(-32%) | (4) Dashing Roger 33/1, Made too much use of and was well beaten in a handicap at Ascot latest. Off a short break. Effective at 8-10f and acts on all-weather, though poor this term. Multiple wins, one on Polytrack, but mostly in modest form these days despite falling mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (8) (9/2 +63%)Kaaranah |
9/2(+63%) | (8) Kaaranah 9/2, No obvious excuse when beaten 8l in a handicap here last time. Off a short break. Effective at 8-10f, 9f may suit best, and acts on all-weather. Nicely handicapped and generally consistent bar latest effort. Well held from poor draw here latest but won and close 2nd from two previous C&D runs. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (9) (12/1 -71%)Louie The Legend |
12/1(-71%) | (9) Louie The Legend 12/1, Ran to form showing a willing attitude when beaten a neck off 63 at Nottingham last time. Wears a tongue-tie for the first time and has a wide draw. Suited by 1m and acts on all-weather, showing signs of life lately. Suited by Nottingham; needs improvement on C&D run in August; now tongue tied. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (12) (100/1 -203%)Fortunas Dream |
100/1(-203%) | (12) Fortunas Dream 100/1, Slowly away and on a stiff mark when beaten 8l in a 7f handicap here last time. Has a wide draw and acts on all-weather. Longer trip should suit but plenty to prove in handicaps. Beaten about 2l in C&D novice last December; minor 7f handicap form since; off since April. |

Studious bounced back to his best at Newcastle last week, but all three of his victories have come on Tapeta and he has something to prove on this surface. TONAL struck on Tapeta at Southwell, but that supplemented a wide-margin Chelmsford triumph and his proven ability on Polytrack means he is fancied to round out the hat-trick. Foreseen got through heavy ground to win at Bath and Louie The Legend also handled testing conditions to go close at Nottingham, but both must back those performances up here.

Three of these won their latest starts but TONAL makes most appeal, having beaten two next-time winners when last seen in October.

1st (3) (9/2 -50%)Believitanducan |
9/2(-50%) | (3) Believitanducan 9/2, Ran second, beaten 5l, in a handicap hurdle over 2m at Newbury last time. Effective from 2m to 2¼m and handles soft and good to soft ground. May have more to offer over hurdles for a top yard judged on flat form. Record of 2-4 over hurdles and was runner-up in a Newbury handicap last month; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (17/2 -42%)Bourbali |
17/2(-42%) | (1) Bourbali 17/2, Made too much use of when back up in trip, finishing 11l third in a handicap chase over 2m4f at Wincanton on latest outing. Enjoys making the running and looks the pick on balance of form off generous mark based on hurdles efforts. Dual C&D winner who has solid record over fences this year; respected back over hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (13/2 +46%)American Sniper |
13/2(+46%) | (4) American Sniper 13/2, Needed the run when finishing down the field in a handicap hurdle over 2m4f at Cheltenham most recently. Effective from 2½m to 3m; a useful handicap hurdler but looks vulnerable at this grade over fences. On last winning mark but he's hard to predict and was tailed off on his return. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) (8/1 +6%)Twist Of Fatecatch |
8/1(+6%) | (8) Twist Of Fatecatch 8/1, Far too keen back from a break and comfortably held in a handicap hurdle over 2m7f at Exeter last time. Effective around 2½m, yet to fully prove stamina for 3m; acts on good ground and generally consistent with potential to do better. 5yo who has still has potential as a handicapper and he's in the mix back in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (5/2 +17%)Jackstell |
5/2(+17%) | (5) Jackstell 5/2, Improved on handicap debut, aided by a late faller, when landing a handicap by 4l off 111 here last time. Trainer in form. Effective from 2m to 2m3f and best on good ground; looks to be progressing. Progressive 6yo who has won his last three including over C&D last time; key player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (7) (9/4 +44%)Grenadier Jed |
9/4(+44%) | (7) Grenadier Jed 9/4, Improved again when needing every yard back from a break to land a handicap by 3½l off 103 over 2m3f at Fontwell last time. Effective at around 2½m and suited by some cut; progressive and should come on for that run. Made it 3-3 in handicaps when scoring at Fontwell; up another 10lb but he's respected. |

Having notched up a brace of novice victories, Jackstell completed his hat-trick when switched to handicaps over C&D. He is expected to go close again, but GRENADIER JED is preferred. Robert Walford's gelding also registered a three-timer on his return at Fontwell and the manner in which he won would suggest he can cope with a 10lb rise. Believitanducan, Bourbali and Sixty Plus add further intrigue to a competitive heat.

Grenadier Jed and JACKSTELL are major improvers who have both won their last three starts. Slight preference is for the latter.

4/11(+88%) | (9) King Gris 4/11, Outpaced and continued in poor form when down the field in a 2m1f novice hurdle at Cartmel last time; trainer in form and a longer trip should suit on handicap debut, but needs more. Promise in Irish points; modest hurdles form; 5lb wrong but chance on h'cap/stable debut.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (4/1 -146%)Red Cadillac |
4/1(-146%) | (2) Red Cadillac 4/1, Returned to form when suited by a stiff track and drop in trip, landing a handicap by a head off 94 over 2m1f at Carlisle last time; effective 2–2½m, acts on soft; progressive. Off the mark over 2m1f at Carlisle last time and despite 4lb rise, should go well again. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (12/1 -140%)Holly Bird |
12/1(-140%) | (5) Holly Bird 12/1, Made too much use of and needed the run when comfortably held in a 2m novice hurdle here last time; effective at 2m but yet to match her hurdle form. Fair effort in five runs over hurdles, but perhaps 2m3f on testing ground not ideal. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (18/1 -80%)Velvet Vulcan |
18/1(-80%) | (6) Velvet Vulcan 18/1, Ran to form when beaten 8l in a 2m handicap hurdle here last time; effective at 2m; a cruiser that doesn't find much and yet to fire over hurdles but starts off a basement mark. 2m AW winner in August; decent run back hurdling here last time (2m); contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) (18/1 +18%)Bray Dale |
18/1(+18%) | (8) Bray Dale 18/1, Needed the run when down the field in a handicap hurdle here most recently; effective at 2m, acts on soft, but has a bit to prove. Won a point bumper; ordinary form over hurdles, best run when 3rd over 2m here in March. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (300/1 -809%)En Avant |
300/1(-809%) | (4) En Avant 300/1, Made mistakes and ran below form when comfortably held in a 2m handicap chase at Newcastle last time. Needs to prove ability remains after lay off. Won twice at up to 2m5f for Olly Murphy in 2023; modest efforts since, last 4 over fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (3) (20/1 -82%)Grand Voyage |
20/1(-82%) | (3) Grand Voyage 20/1, Made too much use of and was well beaten in a 2m5f handicap hurdle at Kelso last time; effective around 2½m, handles any ground; better over fences, fair mark but tricky to win with. Two wins over 2m4f here, latest in March; disappointing since; on a good mark now. |

RED CADILLAC appears to have strengthened up during his break, judging by the way he stuck his neck out to get off the mark at Carlisle. He only won by a head so a 4lb rise isn't ideal, but he should be capable of even more, especially now going back up in trip. King Gris has to be feared on his first appearance for the Gordon Elliott team, and with Sean Bowen on top. Ozzy Cosmo is the pick of the remainder.

The choice is KING GRIS, a fair Irish pointer who makes plenty of appeal off his basement mark on his first run for Gordon Elliott.

2nd (9) (5/1 +0%)Rainwater |
5/1(+0%) | (9) Rainwater 5/1, Had the run of the race and ran to form when second, beaten 5 1/2l in a 7f Wolverhampton handicap last time. Effective around 8f on the all-weather and should be fine back up in trip. Promising return to action over 7f last month; return to 1m should suit; has form over C&D. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (8) (5/1 +23%)Al Waqidi |
5/1(+23%) | (8) Al Waqidi 5/1, Ran to form with late headway when beaten 3l off 65 over 7f here last time. Usually held up; wide draw again. Effective from 8f to 10f on the all-weather; falling in the weights and better latest, longer trip should help. Tumbled down the weights and more encouraging signs of late; not ruled out back up to 1m. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (11) (9/1 +64%)Law Supreme |
9/1(+64%) | (11) Law Supreme 9/1, Hampered and found little after being beaten 9l in a Southwell handicap last time. Cheekpieces are applied for the first time; effective over 8f on the all-weather but has been in poor form. Dropped a long way in the weights; cheekpieces now added and B Loughnane a good booking. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (40/1 -300%)Arantes Nascimento |
40/1(-300%) | (1) Arantes Nascimento 40/1, Below form when beaten 5l in a 7f Ascot handicap last time, having been in good form before. Returns from a break and is effective over 7f; acts on the all-weather. Absent since July and returns with an inexperienced apprentice booked; others safer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (25/1 -25%)Marsh Benham |
25/1(-25%) | (4) Marsh Benham 25/1, Never threatened when beaten 7l in a Lingfield handicap last time. Usually held up; effective over 7/8f on the all-weather but his attitude has been a worry lately and he remains unreliable. On a fair mark but short of his best on last two starts, the latest last week; opposable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (16/1 -45%)Havana Touch |
16/1(-45%) | (7) Havana Touch 16/1, Needed the run when beaten 8l in a Southwell handicap last time. Has a wide draw and returns from a short break. Effective between 7f and 8f on the all-weather but inconsistent and his mark looks about right. Two-time AW winner; down the field at Southwell on return; stable also runs Final Night. |

66/1(-164%) | (5) Boston Run 66/1, Failed to find much when beaten 8l in a 12f Lingfield handicap last time. Effective between 8f and 10f on the all-weather but looks on a stiff enough mark still. 11-race maiden; down the field on stable debut (1m4f) 11 days ago; risky dropped in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (2) (28/1 -100%)Exposay |
28/1(-100%) | (2) Exposay 28/1, Far too free when beaten 4l in a 7f Redcar handicap last time. Cheekpieces go on for the first time and she has a wide draw. Effective over 7f on the all-weather but yet to shine in three handicaps. Struggled in handicaps following her Thirsk maiden win; cheekpieces now added. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (10) (40/1 -60%)Read All About It |
40/1(-60%) | (10) Read All About It 40/1, Did too much too soon after missing the break when comfortably held in a Nottingham handicap last time. Returns from a break; effective on good to firm and all-weather surfaces; consistent in maidens and can do better in handicaps. Absent since a low-key handicap debut in July; earlier efforts promised better; unexposed. |

I'M WORKIN ON IT has found his niche as a Kempton handicapper, winning here in August before a close-up fourth and a narrow defeat. All of those efforts came at 7f, but he stayed on all the way to the line last time so the extra furlong should play to his strengths. Rainwater got closest to an easy winner at Wolverhampton but a bigger threat may come in the shape of Final Night, who struck over C&D prior to making the frame at Nottingham.

Law Supreme is interesting but I'M WORKING ON IT is on the up and could progress again now upped to 1m for the first time.

1/2(+69%) | (2) Low Expectations 1/2, Well treated up 9lb and improved again when winning a handicap by 13l off 91 over 2m4f at Windsor last time. Trainer in form. Effective around 2m2f and acts on good to soft ground. Progressive but this revised mark demands more. Completed double in emphatic style at Windsor last Sunday; major player again back in trip. |

2nd (1) (15/2 +0%)Inferno Sacree |
15/2(+0%) | (1) Inferno Sacree 15/2, Ran to form when finishing 18l third in a handicap hurdle over 2m1f at Sedgefield on his most recent run. Likes to make the running and is effective from 2m to 2½m. Out of form in spring but now well treated, dangerous if allowed to dictate. Last win was in May 2023 but he's on dangerous mark and was placed on recent reappearance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (13/2 +80%)Thankyouandplease |
13/2(+80%) | (3) Thankyouandplease 13/2, Outpaced but improved up in trip when comfortably held in a novice hurdle over 2m6f at Newton Abbot last time. Effective from 2m to 2¾m and may stay 3m, so this drop in trip may not be ideal. Made encouraging start for new yard last month and he could go well back in a handicap. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (20/1 +20%)Voix De Bocelli |
20/1(+20%) | (7) Voix De Bocelli 20/1, Ran to form when fourth, beaten 14l in a handicap hurdle over 1m7f at Wincanton last time. Effective around 2m and may ideally prefer easier ground. Has a bit to prove over hurdles. Dual Flat winner but he's 0-12 over hurdles and has been well held in last three runs. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (18/1 +10%)Gregorians Star |
18/1(+10%) | (6) Gregorians Star 18/1, Outpaced but hinted at a return to form when fourth, beaten 11l in a handicap hurdle here last time. Effective at 2m and a bumper winner who acts on any going but needs to build on that latest effort. 0-15 since his bumper win and was behind Hill Station over C&D last time; down the list. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (8/1 -14%)Hill Station |
8/1(-14%) | (4) Hill Station 8/1, Scored by 2½l off 83 at Stratford three starts ago and ran to form when second, beaten 4l off 91 last time. Prefers a sound surface and is in good form but may be vulnerable to stronger stayers over further than 2m. Has record of 22632122 since June and he should make another bold bid; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (33/1 -50%)Castle Quarter |
33/1(-50%) | (5) Castle Quarter 33/1, Never threatened and needed the run when fourth, beaten 34l in a handicap hurdle over 2m2f at Fontwell last time. Effective at 2m and acts on good to soft or good ground but remains inconsistent. 20-1 win at Uttoxeter in May but he was tailed off after another absence last month. |

Low Expectations has really turned a corner since returning last month, winning at Fontwell before going in again at Windsor. The penalty shouldn't be any barrier to further success, but the presence of NO MORE BOLERO might be. Officially rated 69 on the level, he made a mockery of a mark of 84 at Ludlow last week and might still have too much under his penalty. Hill Station can chase the pair home.

This is a tight call between the two penalised runners in No More Bolero and LOW EXPECTATIONS, but the vote goes to the latter.

150/1(+0%) | (7) Am I Bovvered 150/1, Outpaced and never threatened when finishing down the field in a 2m1f maiden bumper at Carlisle last time; effective at 2m and may need more time. Well beaten in her two bumpers so far and others look to have a better chance. |

DUBHAIN gave a great sight from the front at Down Royal's big meeting of the year, only giving way late to finish third. The winner has gone in again to frank the form and Stuart Crawford's raider has an experience edge over Broadway Ted, who also crosses the Irish Sea and makes plenty of appeal on pedigree. Nicky Richards forked out 44,000 euros for Coniston Commander and he is another newcomer to consider.

Newcomers Broadway Ted and CONISTON COMMANDER look the interesting two here with the latter just preferred.

Temperament a slight concern but generally consistent. Third in Listed event at Newmarket last month (1m2f); AW debut; yard also runs Chancellor. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (6) (40/1 -60%)Brian |
40/1(-60%) | (6) Brian 40/1, Far too free when finishing down the field in a handicap here last time. Effective at 6f to 7f and acts on soft, good to firm, and all-weather surfaces. Had hinted at a return to winning form before that effort. Good 2nd at Newbury on penultimate start but he looks up against it at this level. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (8) (66/1 -230%)Rubies From Burma |
66/1(-230%) | (8) Rubies From Burma 66/1, Outclassed and finished down the field in the Prix Goldikova (Listed) at Deauville last time. Returns from a break. Effective at 1m and acts on a sound surface. Needs to confirm that her Kempton form was no fluke. Listed-placed over C&D in March; more on her plate tackling male opposition. |

Chancellor benefited from being gelded and a wind operation when scoring here in handicap company. The extra furlong is unlikely to be an issue, but the standard HOLLOWAY BOY sets might just be a bridge too far. The five-year-old placed second twice in Group 2 company and took third in the Jebel Hatta in Dubai before returning with a fine effort against a very progressive type in the Balmoral at Ascot, and this should set him up nicely for going back overseas. The consistent Ebt's Guard and Torito are others to consider.

Chancellor is a big player up in trip and class but HOLLOWAY BOY, who ran a fine race at Ascot in October, may have his measure.

5/1(+9%) | (2) Five Bar Gate 5/1, Keen and outpaced when beaten 8 1/4l in a maiden bumper over 2m1f at Newton Abbot last time; slightly longer trip should suit. Won a point bumper and wasn't beaten far on rules debut at Newton Abbot; in the mix. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (8) (12/1 +25%)Soldier Poet |
12/1(+25%) | (8) Soldier Poet 12/1, £28,000 Soldier Of Fortune gelding; dam fair at 16f; trainer in form; not dismissed. Yard 3-51 in bumpers in recent seasons; best watched on debut unless market is persuasive. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (7/1 +30%)Jet Steel |
7/1(+30%) | (4) Jet Steel 7/1, Had every chance but ran poorly when fourth beaten 27l in a bumper over 2m at Chepstow on debut; effective at 2m and acts on good to soft; has plenty to prove. Ran well for a long way in Chepstow bumper and has claims if he can build on that. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (13/8 -30%)Mescalero |
13/8(-30%) | (5) Mescalero 13/8, Ran to form when 8l third in an Amateurs' bumper over 2m at Worcester last time; effective at 2m and acts on good ground; in form and has shown enough to win a race. Two promising placed efforts in bumpers and he sets a clear standard; key player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (2/1 +27%)Saint Invictus |
2/1(+27%) | (7) Saint Invictus 2/1, Outpaced but finished well when second beaten 16l in a bumper over 2m at Sandown last time; effective at 2m and acts on good to soft; should improve for initial experience and can win a bumper. Runner-up in sole point and was second on bumper debut at Sandown last month; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (18/1 +10%)Gettingawaywithit |
18/1(+10%) | (3) Gettingawaywithit 18/1, 1,200gns Getaway gelding; half-brother to Sandor Clegane, high-class at 24f. Half-brother to some bumper winners; one of two runners for yard and market should guide. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (6) (150/1 -88%)Road To Nirvana |
150/1(-88%) | (6) Road To Nirvana 150/1, Outpaced and never threatened when well beaten in a bumper over 2m at Sandown on debut; hood on for the first time; has it all to prove. 40-1 and was tailed off on Sandown debut last month; equipment now added. |

A confident vote goes to MESCALERO, who made a pleasing start to his career when second at Worcester in September. Harry Eustace's charge then finished third over the same C&D, but the winner looked useful and the runner-up has since gone one better over hurdles. This might not be the deepest contest and any further progress could suffice. Saint Invictus was a distant second at Sandown but is still one of the likelier candidates, while Jet Steel must also enter the reckoning.

Top of the list is MESCALERO, who has finished placed in two bumpers at Worcester and his latest third was behind a useful rival.

17/2(-6%) | (5) Mythical Composer 17/2, Ran to form when fourth, beaten 4l in a 6f handicap at Wolverhampton last time. Wears cheekpieces for the first time; effective from 6f to 7f and acts on the all-weather; holding solid form. Yet to win a handicap but usually gives his running; cheekpieces now given a go. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (6/1 +14%)Metaverse |
6/1(+14%) | (2) Metaverse 6/1, Returned to form on his second start since a wind operation, beaten 1/2l off 82 here last time. Suited by 7f and the all-weather; below his last winning mark and could build on that revival. In and out this year but latest C&D third came in a better race; involved with a repeat. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (7/1 +30%)Stenmark |
7/1(+30%) | (6) Stenmark 7/1, Poorly placed in a race dominated from the front, ridden to see out the trip and beaten 6l in an 8f handicap at Chelmsford last time. Effective at 7f and acts on the all-weather; remains on a fair mark if staying the trip. Two good runs for new yard this summer; not at the same level on last two runs; unexposed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (22/1 -238%)Arctician |
22/1(-238%) | (7) Arctician 22/1, Returned to form down in grade, landing a handicap by a neck off 75 here last time. Suited by 7f and the all-weather, just about stays 1m; seems refreshed after a layoff but the handicapper has reacted. Multiple C&D winner, including last time; up 3lb but should make another bold bid. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (17/2 +58%)Silver Samurai |
17/2(+58%) | (3) Silver Samurai 17/2, Had too much to do when beaten 3l off 83 here last time. Usually held up and returns after a short break; probably needs 7f nowadays and acts on the all-weather; in moderate form but the handicapper is easing. Chance on this year's C&D best but he needs to ease into a 0-80 to give him a lift. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (7/4 +75%)United Approach |
7/4(+75%) | (1) United Approach 7/4, Returned to form when benefitting from a pace collapse, beaten 1/2l off 82 at Wolverhampton last time. Effective from 6f to 7f and acts on the all-weather; mark looks high enough, needs to build on that recent revival. Good second at Wolverhampton last week; solid claims off the same mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (18/1 +45%)Follow Your Heart |
18/1(+45%) | (4) Follow Your Heart 18/1, Had every chance but ran below form when beaten 6 1/4l in a handicap here last time. Suited by 7f and the all-weather, though his mark looks tough in this sphere. Multiple C&D winner; not at best last time but on a winning mark and not discounted. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (9) (12/1 -118%)How Impressive |
12/1(-118%) | (9) How Impressive 12/1, Quickened well to return to form down in grade, making all to land a handicap by a neck off 73 here last time. Effective at 7f on the all-weather; still on a competitive mark and could follow up. Made all over C&D six weeks ago (Class 5); still has handicapping scope up 3lb. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (8) (5/2 -25%)Freddie's Star |
5/2(-25%) | (8) Freddie's Star 5/2, Quickened clear readily to outclass rivals when winning a novice at Chelmsford by 2l last time. Effective from 6f to 7f and acts on the all-weather; consistent and starts handicapping from a fair opening mark. Didn't have to match best form to win weak novice last time; more required on h'cap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (10) (80/1 -142%)Riot |
80/1(-142%) | (10) Riot 80/1, Scored by a neck off 73 at Wolverhampton three starts back. Unsuited by testing ground when 13th, beaten 16l off 77 last time. Effective at 7f and acts on the all-weather; was in fair form before that run. Been better than this in his time; starts out for a new stable and likely best watched. |

FREDDIE'S STAR was presented with a simple opportunity to shed the maiden tag at Chelmsford and duly obliged at the fourth attempt. Now sent into handicap company, Roger Teal's gelding looks open to further improvement. Arctician bounced back over C&D last month and has to be respected off 3lb higher, while the application of cheekpieces may aid the cause of Mythical Composer.

Metaverse and United Approach can feature but STENMARK is given another chance to tap back into this summer's promise.

1st (4) (5/4 +38%)Comic Strip |
5/4(+38%) | (4) Comic Strip 5/4, Improved when dropped in trip on handicap debut, landing a handicap by 3/4l off 72 at Southwell last time. Speedy and effective over 5-6f; latest form franked, needs to progress again. Won on nursery debut at Southwell and he's open to more progress; respected up 5lb. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (33/1 -50%)Filly Foden |
33/1(-50%) | (6) Filly Foden 33/1, Poorly placed but never threatened when beaten 2 1/4l off 61 at Lingfield last time. Effective over 5/6f and generally consistent; mark looks about right. 11-race maiden and she didn't really fire at Lingfield last time; others preferred. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (14/1 +0%)Victor Cee |
14/1(+0%) | (3) Victor Cee 14/1, Below form up in grade on handicap debut when beaten 9l in a 6f nursery at Hamilton last time; had been in good form beforehand. Trainer in form; effective at 5/6f and acts on the all-weather; may prefer an uncontested lead, which seems unlikely. Hamilton maiden winner but he has bit to prove on return for new yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (11/8 +0%)Akirra |
11/8(+0%) | (2) Akirra 11/8, Quickened clear cosily when outclassing rivals down in grade to win a maiden here by 4 1/4l last time. Suited by 5f and consistent in maidens and on nursery debut; may not have much more to come but remains very useful. Lightly raced colt who won a C&D maiden last time; big player again back in a nursery. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (12/1 -9%)Lil Brother |
12/1(-9%) | (1) Lil Brother 12/1, Never threatened when beaten 5 1/4l in a nursery at York last time; returns from a short break. Effective over 5f and suited by a sound surface; workable mark given suitable conditions. Dual turf winner but he needs to resume his progress on AW/stable debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (11/1 -120%)Bessie Wallis |
11/1(-120%) | (5) Bessie Wallis 11/1, A bit free but improved down in grade when winning a novice at Lingfield by a neck last time. Suited by 5f and acts well on the all-weather; progressing and her opening mark looks fair. Big improvement when winning a Lingfield novice and she's respected on nursery debut. |

AKIRRA won as his incredibly short odds suggested he would over C&D and, with that confidence boost under his belt, he can gain his revenge on Comic Strip. Just three-quarters of a length separated them when the Crisfords' youngster came out on top at Southwell, but Akirra is 4lb better off and can capitalise. Bessie Wallis arrives on the back of a breakthrough success at Lingfield, but this requires more of her.

The vote goes to the progressive COMIC STRIP, who showed a good attitude when beating Akirra in a Southwell nursery last time.

13/8(+19%) | (5) Mission Possible 13/8, Ran to form, just tiring late on when beaten 2 1/4l off 68 over 1m6f at Redcar last time. Trainer in form; effective 12-16f and acts on a sound surface; on a fair mark and should go well down in trip. Seven-race maiden but in the frame on last three starts and the drop in trip can help. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (7/2 0%)Nivelle's Magic |
7/2(0%) | (1) Nivelle's Magic 7/2, Ran to form when beaten 1/2l off 66 over 12f at Newbury last time. Effective over 12f and acts on good to soft and all-weather; consistent and another good run is likely. Steadily progressive for Dan Horsford this year; up in weights but bold bid expected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (9/4 +55%)Mandana |
9/4(+55%) | (2) Mandana 9/4, Probably unsuited by the soft ground when well beaten in a handicap over 10f at Newbury latest. Effective from 8f to 10f and acts on all-weather; return to this surface a plus but has a bit to prove after two below-par runs. Starts out for new yard off a reduced mark; up in trip; stable also runs Little Miss India. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (18/1 -13%)Fool Again |
18/1(-13%) | (4) Fool Again 18/1, Again well below 2024 form when well beaten in a handicap over 8f at Chelmsford latest. Cheekpieces tried and effective at 7-8f; acts on all-weather; currently out of form. Promise as a 2yo but well held in 3 handicaps this year; up 3f in trip; not a solid option. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (4/1 -100%)Little Miss India |
4/1(-100%) | (3) Little Miss India 4/1, Scored by 3l off 59 at Southwell three starts back and ran to form when third beaten 1l off 65 last time. Cheekpieces first time; suited by 10-12f and acts on a sound surface; looks progressive. Ready win at Southwell (1m3f) in October and placed in both runs since; cheekpieces added. |

Nivelle's Magic has been knocking on the door, most recently when a close-up second at Newbury, and she's likely to be in the mix once more. However, a further 3lb rise will only make life more difficult for Dan Horsford's mare and LITTLE MISS INDIA may prove to be better treated. The four-year-old arrives on the back of a third-placed effort at Southwell and edges the vote off an unchanged mark. Mission Possible is the pick of the remainder.

Mission Possible can go well dropped in trip but the reliable NVELLE'S MAGIC can record her third win of the year.

Trainer in form; 2lb rise fair and competitive down in trip if handling the surface. Twice a good second on turf, beaten narrowly last time; major player on the figures. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (8) (8/1 -45%)Gold Penny |
8/1(-45%) | (8) Gold Penny 8/1, Met trouble and found little after when fourth beaten 7 1/2l in a handicap over 11f at Southwell last time. Cheekpieces applied for the first time; capable at 10–12f and acts on this surface. Chance of winning partly depends on how well she responds to headgear. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (9) (14/1 -40%)Pyleates |
14/1(-40%) | (9) Pyleates 14/1, Improved down in grade when second beaten 12l in a novice at Southwell last time. Related to King George winner Pyledriver and looked promising over 12f on debut; open to further progress. Sibling to four winners for her connections; still open to improvement; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (14/1 -87%)Plutarch |
14/1(-87%) | (4) Plutarch 14/1, 5,000gns New Bay gelding; full-brother to Jimi Hendrix, a high-class performer at 8f. Dam was smart at 10f. Faces a tough enough task on debut. 150,000gns yearling, 5,000gns 3yo; sibling to three winners; check the betting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (13/8 +46%)Yaa Min |
13/8(+46%) | (5) Yaa Min 13/8, Ran to form when 8l third in a novice over 10f at Redcar on latest start. Second run after wind operation; middle-distance bred, should come on for that effort and looks potentially quite smart. Thrice-raced son of Frankel; may do better still; enters calculations. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (10) (17/2 -55%)Requisite |
17/2(-55%) | (10) Requisite 17/2, Given a poor ride when racing solo far side and beaten 8l in a handicap over 11f at Windsor last time. Cheekpieces on for the first time; returns from a short break and has yet to build on her promising debut. Chance of a resurgence partly depends on how well she reacts to headgear. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (1) (66/1 0%)Dollar's Dream |
66/1(0%) | (1) Dollar's Dream 66/1, Outpaced and looked in need of a stiffer test when well beaten in a maiden over 10f at Newcastle last time. Should be effective around 12f; longer trip will help but faces a tough task. Handicaps should be more suitable shortly. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (2) (50/1 +0%)Not So Sobers |
50/1(+0%) | (2) Not So Sobers 50/1, Had too much to do when beaten 9l in a novice over 11f at Southwell last time. Effective over 2m when jumping; looks one for long-distance handicaps later on. Bumper winner; modest fifth switched to Flat last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (6) (33/1 +50%)Your Baby's Eyes |
33/1(+50%) | (6) Your Baby's Eyes 33/1, Green and never threatened when beaten 10l in a maiden over 10f at Newcastle last time. Step up in trip could suit this bumper performer but looks up against it. Soundly beaten in bumper; midfield in Flat maiden since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (7) (300/1 -200%)Pleniflora |
300/1(-200%) | (7) Pleniflora 300/1, Showed little on debut when well beaten in a 2m bumper at Stratford on only start. Returns from a long absence and has plenty to find. Absent since inauspicious debut in bumper in July 2024. |

Codiak came within a whisker of getting off the mark in a Redcar nursery and will surely break through sooner rather than later. He may have to wait a little longer, though, because YAA MIN is gradually getting the hang of things and is fancied to step forward from his Redcar third, which came following a break and a gelding operation. Gold Penny is fitted with cheekpieces for the first time so improvement is possible.

Improvement from PYLEATES looks entirely plausible and she is first choice ahead of Codiak.

1st (2) (5/2 +0%)Maris Angel |
5/2(+0%) | (2) Maris Angel 5/2, Improved again when landing a handicap by 1/2l off 71 here last time. Effective over 5f and 6f, acts well on all-weather. Respected once more despite a rising mark. C&D win last time brought up a Wolverhampton hat-trick and took her record here to 5-7. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (8) (11/2 +39%)Court Drive |
11/2(+39%) | (8) Court Drive 11/2, Raced a bit freely but returned to form when beaten a short head off 66 at Lingfield last time. Effective at 6f and acts on all-weather. Needs to build on that recent revival. Went very close in Class 4 at Lingfield last time; possibilities back down in grade. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (12/1 +52%)Lady Wingalong |
12/1(+52%) | (3) Lady Wingalong 12/1, Did plenty early and was beaten 6 1/4l in a handicap over 7f here last time. Effective at 6-7f on a sound surface. Current mark looks fair but needs to bounce back. Four-time AW scorer but her form has dipped since returned to this sphere. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (16/1 -146%)Siobhanbrogan |
16/1(-146%) | (4) Siobhanbrogan 16/1, Never competitive after missing the break when beaten 6l in a Kempton handicap last time. Has a wide draw but effective at 6f and acts best on all-weather. Inconsistent so far in a short career. Two attempts over C&D comprise her peak performances; interesting back here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (85/40 +15%)Your Love |
85/40(+15%) | (1) Your Love 85/40, Improved when outclassing rivals to win a novice at Southwell by 2 1/4l last time. Effective at 6f and acts on all-weather. Generally consistent and should remain competitive back in handicap company. Off the mark in Southwell novice event last time and may build on that success. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (20/1 -150%)Fiorella Princess |
20/1(-150%) | (6) Fiorella Princess 20/1, Scored by 1 1/4l off 64 over 5f at Sandown two runs ago. Quickened clear and ran to form but possibly kicked on a bit soon when second beaten 1 1/2l off 71 last time. Effective at 5-6f and acts on all-weather. Still competitive. Should go well, provided her consistency is sustained on debut for new stable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (5) (4/1 +50%)Starproof |
4/1(+50%) | (5) Starproof 4/1, Scored by 5l off 65 at Kempton three starts back. Raced a bit too freely and flattened out but ran to form when third beaten 2l off 73 last time. Suited by 6f and acts on all surfaces. Generally in good form with mark about right. Won well at Kempton in September and creditable third at Chelmsford last time. |

Completing a three-timer took MARIS ANGEL's Wolverhampton record to five victories from seven visits and she is worth sticking with while at the top of her game. Your Love is progressing nicely and landed the odds to break her duck at Southwell. Fiorella Princess ended her time with Lemos De Souza in good form and is interesting on her debut for the Charlie Wallis team. Court Drive was pipped at Lingfield recently and is only 1lb higher now.

Again receiving weight all round, COURT DRIVE could well prove the answer back down in class. Maris Angel is second pick.

20/1(-100%) | (6) Sir Benedict 20/1, Yard won this last year; scored by 1 1/4l off 45 at Hamilton in September; too much to do after missing the break when fifth beaten 5l off 53 last time; best at 5f on the all-weather; veteran who needs a strong pace, respected. 5/1(+38%) | (5) Juno Star 5/1, Won by 1/2l off 49 at Southwell three starts ago; ran to form when fifth beaten 2 1/2l off 53 last time; effective at 5f and 6f on the all-weather; needs to bounce back. Ran respectably, not far behind two of today's rivals, over C&D most recently. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (3) (40/1 -150%)Global Effort |
40/1(-150%) | (3) Global Effort 40/1, Far too free and finished down the field in a 6f handicap here most recently; trainer in form; effective at 5f; out of form. Form has dipped sharply since completing a double in August. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (1) (80/1 -186%)The Cutest |
80/1(-186%) | (1) The Cutest 80/1, Poor effort when well beaten in a 6f handicap here last time; effective at 6f on the all-weather but struggling in handicaps. Some promise for previous stable but has achieved little this year for new yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (11) (11/1 +0%)A Lady Forever |
11/1(+0%) | (11) A Lady Forever 11/1, Ran to form when beaten 1 1/2l off 46 over 6f at Newcastle last time; cheekpieces on for the first time; effective at 5f and best at 6f on the all-weather; in fair form. Won in February; generally consistent since; in the mix, provided she takes to headgear. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (10) (11/2 +21%)Lady Bouquet |
11/2(+21%) | (10) Lady Bouquet 11/2, Ran to current form when beaten 3l off 49 over 6f here last time; effective at 5f and 6f on the all-weather; inconsistent performer. Outgunned over 6f here last time; fighting chance with the return to 5f ideal. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (7) (5/1 +0%)Forest Gunner |
5/1(+0%) | (7) Forest Gunner 5/1, Bit free but improved to land a handicap by 1 1/4l off 46 at Southwell last time; returning from a short break; effective at 5f on the all-weather; could progress now he has won. Off the mark in Southwell event last time (second run for new yard); may build on that win. |

The drop to 5f helped Forest Gunner get off the mark at Southwell, but he needs to back that performance up off a 5lb higher mark. With that in mind, I CAN IMAGINE might prove to be the answer. Second on her first attempt at this trip here, she has every chance of going one better. A Lady Forever, Street Life and Juno Star are others capable of being in the mix.

Being unexposed over 5f, I CAN IMAGINE may well build on her latest effort and get off the mark. Lady Bouquet is second pick.

6/4(+50%) | (1) Ribble Vibe 6/4, Ran to form when beaten 2l off 81 over 2m at Southwell last time; effective up to 16f and acts on the all-weather; more to come at this trip. Running well lately, finishing third in a slightly better contest at Southwell last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (7/2 +22%)Senor Cortez |
7/2(+22%) | (6) Senor Cortez 7/2, Ran to form when finishing a 5 1/4l third in a 2m handicap at Nottingham on his latest start; effective from 14-16f and acts on the all-weather; consistent performer. Fair third on stable debut when bidding for a hat-trick in October; needs a bit more. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

11/1(-57%) | (3) Barenboim 11/1, Ran to form when beaten 3l off 79 here last time; cheekpieces on for the first time; effective over 2m and acts on the all-weather; on a fair mark at best. Just about stays this far, but losing run up to 22; cheekpieces on. |

5th (5) (3/1 -71%)Aajej |
3/1(-71%) | (5) Aajej 3/1, Returned to form up in trip when beaten a neck off 80 over 1m6f here last time; trainer in form; effective from 11-14f and acts on the all-weather; could bounce back returned to this surface. 0-5 but placed in all three starts on Tapeta; shapes as though he will stay this far. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (40/1 -43%)Rodoya |
40/1(-43%) | (4) Rodoya 40/1, Disappointing on handicap debut and needed the run when well beaten over 1m6f at Nottingham last time; returns from a short break; stays 14f; mark looks stiff enough. Half-sister to two French AW winners, but she needs a big step forward from stable debut. |

AAJEJ seems happiest on an artificial surface and came within a neck of a first success over 1m6f here. He stayed every yard of the trip and, if anything, this distance promises to get even more out of him. Ribble Vibe's sole previous victory came on debut, but he has been performing well in defeat and should double that tally soon enough. Diamond Bay wasn't that far behind the selection last time, while Senor Cortez has more to give.

The choice is RIBBLE VIBE who ran really well when third in a slightly better contest over this trip at Southwell 11 days ago.

6th (9) (25/1 -257%)Eye Of The Water |
25/1(-257%) | (9) Eye Of The Water 25/1, Suited by deep ground when fourth beaten 6l over 8f at Bath latest. Effective at 7/8f and goes on any surface; ran better latest but the veteran may prove vulnerable. C&D winner, but rarely seen on AW these days and losing run up to 29; others more solid. |

7th (10) (80/1 -186%)Shoptilyoudrop |
80/1(-186%) | (10) Shoptilyoudrop 80/1, Tired late after refusing to settle when beaten 5 1/2l in a handicap here last time. Best French efforts on all-weather; effective over 7f but inconsistent and plenty to prove for new yard. 0-15; didn't enjoy much luck over C&D last time but a leap of faith is still required. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (3) (14/1 -211%)Secret Road |

Trainer in form; effective at 6-7f and acts on all-weather; out of form and looks up against it. Dual C&D winner; won at Lingfield in January; last six efforts leave plenty to be desired. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (2) (10/1 -11%)Mashaan |
10/1(-11%) | (2) Mashaan 10/1, Every chance but below form when fourth beaten 6 1/4l in a Chelmsford handicap latest. Suited by 7f, acts on a sound surface; needs to bounce back after a few below-par runs. C&D winner, but hasn't shown enough lately to suggest he will be the answer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (6) (11/2 +8%)Arlecchino's Rex |
11/2(+8%) | (6) Arlecchino's Rex 11/2, Below form when beaten 6l in a Kempton handicap last time after a short break. Effective at 7f, acts on a sound surface; in moderate form. 0-13 since winning over C&D, but well treated on some of his summer AW form; could go well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (8) (28/1 +15%)Kakarotto |
28/1(+15%) | (8) Kakarotto 28/1, Ran poorly when down the field in a 5f handicap here most recently. Effective at 5/6f and acts on heavy; more like it latest but has a bit to prove on all-weather. AW winner in Spain and fair effort on stable debut, but last of 11 here next time. |

The penny is dropping with HOMME DE FER, who has made the frame on his last couple of starts. He may not have quite seen out the mile at Southwell and the return to this distance can pay dividends. Rain Cap found only one too strong at Redcar, but has never shown his true colours on the all-weather. Eye Of The Water also has a better record on turf, although he has managed to get his head in front twice here.

The vote goes to HOMME DE FER who is relatively unexposed on the AW and has been shaping as though a first win may be imminent.

7/1(-75%) | (4) Havana Club 7/1, Bit free but ran to form when beaten 1/2l off 52 over 6f here last time; suited by 7/8f, consistent performer, longer trip should suit. 1-17; close third over 6f here six days ago; no problem with 7f; a player. |

14/1(+30%) | (12) Kodebreaker 14/1, No obvious excuse when beaten 6l in an 8f handicap at Southwell last time; suited by 7/8f, acts on any surface; has regressed but mark has fallen too. Losing run up to 19 despite a sliding mark; makes limited appeal. |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (17/2 +47%)Vitalline |
17/2(+47%) | (9) Vitalline 17/2, Ran to form when beaten 4l in a handicap at Kempton last time; in good form prior and now off a short break; effective 6-7f on all-weather; capable at this modest level off current mark. Five-time AW winner and has run with credit lately, but stall 12 makes things tricky. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (8) (22/1 -22%)Darla's Secret |
22/1(-22%) | (8) Darla's Secret 22/1, Outpaced and never threatened, unsuited by the drop in trip when beaten 8l in a 6f handicap at Newcastle last time; trainer in form; effective 7-10f on all-weather; currently out of form. Out of the frame in all nine starts and needs to find plenty more if he is to figure. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (25/1 -213%)Rock Master |
25/1(-213%) | (7) Rock Master 25/1, Yard won this last year; had too much to do when beaten 5l in a 6f handicap here last time; trained by a top course trainer; consistent maiden effective at 6/7f on a sound surface. 0-14, but hasn't been with Tony Carroll for long; a step up wouldn't be a total surprise. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (2) (5/2 +17%)Sedgemoor |
5/2(+17%) | (2) Sedgemoor 5/2, Never threatened after missing the break when beaten 8 1/2l in a handicap at Lingfield last time; suited by 7f, acts on all-weather; has lost form lately. 1-15; has gone backwards from a promising return/stable debut in August; best watched. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (10) (22/1 +21%)Weston Court |
22/1(+21%) | (10) Weston Court 22/1, Forced wide from a poor draw when beaten 4l off 46 here last time; suited by 1m; form only moderate. Favourably handicapped on his two turf wins in the summer of 2024, but still more needed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (5) (5/1 +64%)Urban Dandy |
5/1(+64%) | (5) Urban Dandy 5/1, Outpaced and never threatened when below form, beaten 6 1/4l in a handicap at Newcastle last time; effective at 7/8f on all-weather; drop in trip may help. Mainly consistent, but has only won one of his last 37 starts; others more compelling. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (1) (22/1 -22%)Desert Footsteps |
22/1(-22%) | (1) Desert Footsteps 22/1, Made too much use of when finishing down the field in a 9f handicap here most recently; suited by 1m and a sound surface, may not handle give; has lost form. Three runs since returning in September have been blowouts; hard to recommend. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (3) (14/1 -56%)Haworth Star |
14/1(-56%) | (3) Haworth Star 14/1, Ran to form, making late headway when beaten 2 1/4l off 55 over 6f at Newcastle last time; effective at 6/7f, acts on all-weather; inconsistent but enjoys this C&D. 1-18; good effort on penultimate start but he isn't very consistent; risks attached. |

THE COLA KID has registered just one win in the last two years, but recent efforts have suggested his turn is imminent again. He has been sent off at big odds when sandwiching a Kempton fourth with two narrow defeats here, and he won't go under the radar this time. Havana Club was a close-up third in the other division of the race the selection finished second in last week and has to be a danger. Rock Master may get closer to The Cola Kid than he did six days ago.

Preference is for THE COLA KID who ran another good race in defeat when beaten a neck here six days ago.

12/1(+33%) | (5) Homeland 12/1, Below form back up in trip when beaten 5l in a handicap here last time; effective around 10f and acts on AW; has largely struggled for form since summer win. Turf winner for Michael Dods; held by The Dark Baron on C&D running last time. |

11/2(-57%) | (4) Study Of Motion 11/2, Improved up in trip when 7 1/2l third in a maiden over 8f at Chelmsford last time; off a short break; bred to stay 10f and could progress again now handicapping over further. Gives the impression this new trip will suit on handicap debut; interesting. |

8th (2) (18/1 +10%)Shielas Well |
18/1(+10%) | (2) Shielas Well 18/1, Unwilling early but ran to form when 5l third in a handicap over 12f here on latest start; effective from 1m to 12f and suited by a sound surface; below par recently with some enthusiasm concerns. Generally consistent for Grant Tuer; 2lb below last winning mark; could go well. |

28/1(-12%) | (7) Broadstone 28/1, Never competitive after missing the break and well beaten in a handicap over 12f here latest; best form around a mile; has lost form and perhaps enthusiasm. Maiden who has inconsistent form for current yard; not a solid option. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (10) (80/1 -21%)Mister Knockout |
80/1(-21%) | (10) Mister Knockout 80/1, Poor hurdle debut when fourth beaten 74l in a juvenile hurdle over 2m at Kempton latest; modest on the Flat around 1m and has a bit to prove now returning to the level. Made the frame a few times in 2024 but has achieved little this year. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (9) (20/1 -82%)An Fear Beag |
20/1(-82%) | (9) An Fear Beag 20/1, Did not find much when beaten 7l in a handicap over 7f at Kempton last time; trainer in form; off a short break; yet to show any really worthwhile form with all runs on AW. Far from solid on his 7f form but may improve for this new trip. |

A drop in trip worked the oracle for THE DARK BARON, who recorded a comfortable success over C&D in October. That also happened to be the three-year-old's all-weather debut so although raised 5lb, he may well have more to offer. Another who could progress is handicap debutant Study Of Motion, especially from a handy draw. Magic Runner is berthed wide, but she did hit the frame over track and trip last time.

With further progress plausible, THE DARK BARON (nap) is taken to follow up his C&D success. Study Of Motion is second pick.

15/2(+38%) | (8) Have You A Minute 15/2, Scored by a neck off 51 here three starts back but was a bit below form when sixth beaten 8 1/2l off 54 last time. Effective from 8-10f and suited by the all-weather; in good form until latest. Justified favouritism in October to record a second C&D win; below par last time. |

12/1(+57%) | (4) Lunarscape 12/1, Continued in poor form when comfortably held in a handicap over 8f at Bath last time. Suited by 8f and acts on the all-weather; currently out of form. Last two efforts don't suggest she's crying out for this step back up in trip. |

|DQ| (5) (5/4 +9%)Dingwall |
5/4(+9%) | (5) Dingwall 5/4, Did very well to win having completely missed the break, landing a handicap by 2l off 53 here last time. Usually held up; effective from 8-10f and acts on a sound surface; thriving since returning to the all-weather and could complete a hat-trick. Two comfortable wins at Wolverhampton last week, despite being slowly away both times. |

DINGWALL broke very slowly but came home best of all to record a commanding C&D triumph, before following up in similarly remarkable fashion a day later. It might not be an easy watch for his supporters once again, but the penalised four-year-old is clearly well ahead of the handicapper and can complete a quickfire hat-trick. Whiteley Way and Mr Nugget both arrive in fair form and are sure to go close, as is the well-treated Revich, who has shown much more on his last couple of appearances.

Even another tardy start may not stop DINGWALL from completing a quickfire Wolverhampton hat-trick. Al Shabab is second pick.
Ths is the racecard key.
