There were 28 Races on Sunday 17th December 2023 across 4 meetings. There was 7 races at Carlisle, 7 races at Southwell, 7 races at Thurles, 7 races at Navan, no doubt Tomform helped you find a winner.

HERE COMES GEORGIE posted his best effort to date when runner-up at Catterick last month and a similar bid may see Patrick Neville's charge finish one place better. 80,000-pound purchase Beneficially Yours was a winner of his sole point-to-point over 3m and it will be interesting to see how he copes with this drop in distance on his Rules debut. The five-year-old is feared most, ahead of penalised hurdle winner Cracking Rhapsody.

The suggestion is Donald McCain Irish point recruit BENEFICIALLY YOURS, with confidence in his chance increased should the betting vibes be strong. Hexham-winner Cracking Rhapsody should go well despite the penalty, while the fact Rob Roy Macgregor went off a short price on his hurdle debut suggests he's well regarded by the Sandy Thomson team.

Back at the scene of his bumper win, ROB ROY MACGREGOR is given another chance. Wal Buck's is second choice.

TEUCHTERS GLORY, who defeated Lucky Lyreen in a Limerick bumper earlier in the year, sets the standard with an official rating of 125. The son of Fame And Glory is expected to build on a promising second at Cork and open his account over hurdles, although the aforementioned looks a big danger for his leading yard. Spread Boss Ted weakened late on over 2m3f at Naas last time, but he could fare better now dropped in trip.

SPREAD BOSS TED could come on plenty for last month's comeback run at Naas and is taken to improve past the more-established Teuchters Glory. Lucky Lyreen is open to progress on the back of his hurdle debut fourth over a longer trip here and should also have a say.

Preference is for dual bumper winner TEUCHTERS GLORY whose maiden form is the most solid on show and he can take the beating

The new training partnership of Dr Richard Newland and Jamie Insole got off to a flying start earlier in the week and it would come as no surprise to see ROSTELLO score for them here. An experienced chaser, the selection showed he retains enthusiasm with a gallant success at Hexham last month and is a must for consideration off just 5lb higher. Sedgefield winner Largy Nights is respected along with Concrete King.

CONCRETE KING is potentially well treated nowadays and took a step back in the right direction when third at Ffos Las, so can fend off last-time-out winners Ali Star Bert, Largy Nights and Rostello.

Charlie Longsdon's LARGY NIGHTS did it well at Sedgefield and he's by no means exposed as a stayer.
Class & Speed Card

BALDUR'S GATE is 8lb higher than when winning at Punchestown but seems suited by this test of stamina. His earlier middle-distance form was also useful and has obvious claims on today's suitably soft surface. Toofareastiswest ran well when rated 2lb lower here last month and with today's rider claiming 5lb, should run well although tackles this slightly longer distance for the first time. Leish Oscars Son won an ordinary Tramore beginners chase last month but retains his same rating and could be suited by today's stamina test, having easily won an April soft-ground point-to-point. Friends N Commerce is a 17-race maiden but is suited by conditions and can compete under top weight on his handicap chase debut. Tullyhogue Fort was unsuited by two miles at Aintree and steps back up in distance, while his neighbour Fill The Tank reverts to fences. Game And Glory and veteran stablemate Dorans River have been running well while last year's winner Lizrona is race-fit but has been well held in recent starts.

LEISH OSCARS SON overcame trouble in running to score in a novice at Tramore recently and a mark of 107 looks more than fair, so he's well worth a chance to defy it. Friends N Commerce looks the main danger and Baldur's Gate is likely to put up a solid showing for all that he doesn't appear to be as well treated as the selection.

Recent beginners' chase winner LEISH OSCARS SON seems to be getting his act together and can improve on previous handicap form
Class & Speed Card

BLUE FIN was far from disgraced on his opening bid over fences when finding only the progressive Trelawne too strong here last month. The gelded son of Shantou races off the same mark and he rates as the one to beat on this drop in class. Fia Fuinidh offered something to work with on his fourth-placed chase bow at Hexham in November and better is expected with that seasonal bow under his belt, while Five Dollar Fine is worth a second look.

BLUE FIN looked a winner in waiting when runner-up on his chasing debut here and can go one better now. Fia Fuinidh is fancied to take a sizeable step forward from his own encouraging start in this sphere at Hexham though, so should ensure Donald McCain's 6-y-o doesn't have things all his own way. Five Dollar Fine has a bit more experience on his side and can have a say too.

Donald McCain holds a robust hand with BLUE FIN and Malpas. Some of the others aren't fully exposed.

Gordon Elliott saddles four here, of which Find A Fortune would appear to be his main hope judged on jockey bookings, but Willie Mullins landed this prize last year and is fancied to do so once again with DANCING CITY. The Wexford bumper winner was far from disgraced on his hurdling bow last month, having been well supported, so it would come as no surprise to see an improved performance with that experience under his belt. Nas Na Riogh is also noted.

DANCING CITY's bumper ability provides him with the scope for significant improvement on the back of last month's C&D hurdle debut fifth and he's preferred to Slanagaibhgoleir and Henry de Bromhead's Nas Na Riogh.

Preference is for SLANAGAIBHGOLEIR, slightly disappointing on his second start at Punchestown in January but this rates an opportunity
Class & Speed Card

Arlo, Couldbeaweapon and Gardener reached a comparable level over hurdles and are evenly matched as they set out to enhance their profiles over fences. However, given the probability of testing ground being the order of the day, SECRET PLAN could take advantage of the small amount of weight he receives from his three rivals. Having posted his best effort over timber on heavy, the Evan Williams-trained gelding is set to encounter ideal conditions and is fancied to make a winning start in this discipline.

GARDENER didn't go on as hoped switched to handicaps over hurdles, but he possibly needed the run after 9 months off last time and he could yet do better over fences. He is taken to make a winning stable/chase debut, with Arlo next best having shaped encouragingly on his reappearance, ahead of Couldbeaweapon.

It could be that SECRET PLAN will want further over fences but he's still worth chancing on his first attempt.

NEVERADULLMOMENT is suited by this distance and soft ground and ran well in two of three recent chase outings. He chased home a capable type at Galway in October, ran well at Wexford recently (McAlpine finished sixth) and while he took 12 runs to win over hurdles, was consistent and today's rider claims 2lb. Time Marches On was a 10-race maiden over hurdles but seems better in this sphere and indeed competes with a 4lb-lower rating. He is a little hit-and-miss but his Cork rated race win was good. Battle Of Ridgeway rarely leaves Tipperary and while well held over hurdles at Thurles, will be seen in a better light reverting to fences, although he must compete off a career high mark. Willywampus has won just once from 27 runs but has been running well over fences and is suited by conditions. Ricky Langford and Ardamir have recent form while Itwasfate runs in first-time cheekpieces.

BATTLE OF RIDGEWAY disappointed back over hurdles last time but is worth another chance returned to fences having made an impressing winning chase bow here the time before. Willywampus and Time Marches On head the dangers.

An improved round of jumping was instrumental in TIME MARCHES ON (nap) gaining a first chase win at Cork. He can follow up now
Class & Speed Card

LISLORAN likely found the drop to 2m against him when finishing a respectable third on his reappearance at Hexham last month. This extended 2m3f should see the seven-year-old travel kinder and a first success over hurdles could be on the horizon. R S Ambush is unexposed in this sphere and he isn't taken lightly, while Bushmill Boy should give another good account at this level too.

ELOI DU PUY has had the form of his latest Kelso win boosted by the runner-up going in since so a further 5 lb rise may not prevent him completing a hat-trick. The unexposed Easter Junction is a potentially dangerous opponent for the Donald McCain team. R S Ambush is another who hasn't got many miles on the clock.

With this new trip a likely plus, unexposed R S AMBUSH could well get off the mark. Easter Junction is feared most
Class & Speed Card

SHANNON ROYALE won a Clonmel bumper that has worked out well and has progressed with each run over hurdles this term. He was trying to give Lecky Watson 8lb at Thurles before fitted with cheek pieces when bolting up in a 2m6f maiden at Punchestown. A mark of 130 may underestimate his ability. Harvard Guy won over C&D last month while others to consider include Lord Erskine, third to Espanito Bello in a similar handicap at Naas last month, and Carnfunnock. Clarens completed a hat-trick on varying ground conditions over two years ago and has returned to form this term including when runner-up to the gambled-on Fortunedefortunata here last month. It will be interesting to see how he copes with this extra half-mile. Natural Look won over fences at Galway last time and now reverts to hurdles off a lower mark.

SHANNON ROYALE looks a typical improver for the yard and can follow up his Punchestown novice success now stepping into handicap company for the first time. Harvard Guy also has better days ahead of him and heads the list of dangers, with Natural Look, Clarens and Lord Erskine also firmly in the picture in this competitive handicap.

The one to beat could be HARVARD GUY(nap) who won with authority despite some iffy jumping over C&D last month and looks progressive

Expensive purchases Western Harmony and CASTLE IVERS both captured the imagination when they both won at the same Ballindenisk point-to-point fixture in May. While the former is respected on debut for the Nicky Henderson yard, the latter has an equal amount of scope to develop under Rules and shades preference after registering a slightly quicker time between the flags. Hereford bumper winner Tap N Go Leo shoulders a 7lb penalty, so Shuile Warrior is earmarked for third spot on his racecourse bow.

WESTERN HARMONY has been picked up for six figures after landing an Irish point and he's worth chancing to make a successful Rules debut at the likely expense of Castle Ivers, who fits a similar mould. Tap N Go Leo is also considered after scoring on debut at Hereford.

This may concern WESTERN HARMONY and Castle Ivers, who won their respective divisions of the same point in Ireland back in May.

JIMMY DU SEUIL ran twice in France and latterly finished second in as Fontainebleau bumper in September 2022 so could be good. That winner was subsequently Grade 3-placed, the third was later Grade 1-placed while fourth-placed Jit Langy has since joined and been successful for Willie Mullins. The selection is a half-brother to Grade 2 winner Iberique Du Seuil. Ankud ran well over course and distance last month but is vulnerable to smart types while Farmers Lodge bumped into Daddy Long Legs here last month and should improve, as it was his first run for 712 days. Dollar Nolimit needs to improve to win while owner-ridden Asian Master has plenty on his plate despite debuting for Willie Mullins. Monsieur Azul runs in a first-time tongue-tie on his first run in 79 days while 100-rated Missus Beeton has a tough task.

The French bumper JIMMY DU SEUIL finished second in back in September 2022 worked out well and though he's been off the track since, he couldn't be in better hands. Ankud is open to progress and is feared most, with Monsieur Azul another to consider.

Looking to face a lesser task than on his recent C&D return from a long absence, FARMERS LODGE is taken to score here
Class & Speed Card

Runner-up to the talented Giovinco at Aintree last month, UNIVERSAL FOLLY should be well suited by dropping back in trip, having won his previous start at Hexham over shorter. A mark of 124 may still underestimate the eight-year-old, and he gets the vote ahead of easy Kempton scorer Mulberry Hill and Red Happy, who arrives on a hat-trick after winning for new connections at Kelso.

UNIVERSAL FOLLY may have had his winning run ended when second at Aintree last month, but he lost little in defeat to the very promising Giovinco (runner-up in a Grade 2 next time) so he is taken to record his fourth success of the season. Mulberry Hill proved better than ever when scoring at Kempton last time and is feared most, ahead of Dubai Days.

Back down in trip and returned to the scene of his last win, DUBAI DAYS gets the vote. Universal Folly is second choice.
Class & Speed Card

This can go the way of READ TO RETURN, who has been in fine form this season and ran with credit on his return to this sphere at Fairyhouse earlier in the month. A mark of 99 still looks manageable, and he is preferred to Blossom De Mai, who got off the mark with a determined success at Tramore and should not be inconvenienced by dropping back in trip. Lets Do This is a player based on the pick of his form, while Golden Nugget and Ivar The Boneless are others to consider.

Lots with chances but BLOSSOM DE MAI returned better than ever with a stylish success at Tramore so looks the way to go. Upthereforthinking is much less exposed and rates a big threat with this return to a longer trip a likely plus, although a solid case can also be made for the likes of Read To Return, Lets Do This and Ferrum.

The one to be on could be UPTHEREFORTHINKING who ran well on his handicap debut over 2m here last month with the step up in trip a plus
Class & Speed Card

Trainer Nicky Henderson will be disappointed if the well-bred BHALOO doesn't open his account over timber. The bumper winner chased home a couple of useful prospects on his hurdling bow last month and rates the one they all have to beat on that form. Colonel Whizz, who hit the woodwork at Fakenham, is the main danger. Stardhem didn't show much on his sole bumper start, but he is bred to appreciate the switch to hurdles.

This looks to represent a good opportunity for BHALOO to build on a promising opening run over hurdles at Kempton. Tommie Gun shaped quite well when runner-up in a Newbury bumper last month and is preferred for the forecast spot to Colonel Whizz, who may not be ideally suited by the return to 2m.

Only three really appeal as feasible winners. BHALOO is hard to resist after shaping so promisingly in a much stronger race at Kempton.
Class & Speed Card

Grade 2 bumper winner FUN FUN FUN won well on hurdles debut here last month. A keen-goer, she should benefit from that experience and is well suited by this distance and a sound surface. A Law Of Her Own won a handicap hurdle at the Galway festival and has a clear experience-advantage but was well held in a recent Grade 3. Birdie Or Bust disappointed in that Down Royal race and while she was previously better, nonetheless should struggle to beat the selection. Pink In The Park has winning form at this distance but might ideally prefer further and concedes 4lb. Miss Agusta finished 17 lengths behind the selection in a Punchestown Festival bumper and has more on her plate that when winning at Galway. Pastorale won a French chase last January but needs to improve from her Irish debut.

FUN FUN FUN looked an exciting prospect when making a winning start in this sphere here last month and is hard to side against with plenty of improvement in the pipeline. Birdie Or Bust also has better days ahead of her and is next on the list ahead of Miss Agusta and A Law of Her Own who can fight it out for minor honours.

Grade 2 bumper winner FUN FUN FUN should be ready for this step-up in grade after a facile C&D maiden success.
Class & Speed Card

RAMO may have disappointed last time out at Newbury, but he is better judged on his penultimate success at Ludlow and the progressive form he showed towards the end of last season. The six-year-old can make it four wins from his last six starts at the main expense of the class-dropping Howlingmadmurdock and Court Dreaming, who ran his best race for some time over C&D earlier in the month.

Having progressed really well last season, HOWLINGMADMURDOCK made a satisfactory return to action at Haydock 3 weeks ago and, given his profile, is fancied to build on that. Schalke could do with a good pace to aim at given his usual tactics and he could be dangerous, while Irish-raider Prairie Dancer has stamina to prove but he lurks on a good mark.

Two runs this season may have brought SCHALKE back to his peak. Howlingmadmurdock and Ramo complete the shortlist.
Class & Speed Card

LUCID DREAMS sets the standard on form following a career-best effort when second in the Craddockstown last month. The eight-year-old has clearly taken well to the larger obstacles and going up in trip looks a good move at this stage, with heavy ground of no concern either. Joyeux Machin is a key player on the back of the back of a strong effort in Listed company at Wexford, while Donacheady Gale could be the one for third if Sa Fureur takes up his engagement at Fairyhouse on Saturday rather than here.

LUCID DREAMS has made up into a useful type over both hurdles and fences, going close in a Grade 2 novice chase at Punchestown on his latest outing, and he can continue his good run of form to land a sixth win of the campaign. Joyeux Machin improved when runner-up last time and looks the biggest threat, with Sa Fureur engaged to run on Saturday.

Even though he has run every month since March, the likeable LUCID DREAMS has held his form well and can record a third win over fences
Class & Speed Card

SUPREMELY WEST was able to comprehensively defy a penalty when winning at Sedgefield last month and the progressive son of Westerner might be a tough nut to crack once again. That said, Bugise Seagull and Thank You Blue both made successful hurdling debuts last time so they must be respected in receipt of 4lb from the selection. High Treason completes the shortlist.

BUGISE SEAGULL was well prepared following a year off the track when winning at Catterick 3 weeks ago and, with the promise of more to come, the 4 lb he receives from Supremely West may prove decisive. High Treason is bred to relish this trip now hurdling and he commands respect, too.

The three previous winners all have something to recommend them but SUPREMELY WEST can bring up the three-timer over hurdles.
Class & Speed Card

BOWMORE lacks a recent run but is suited by this distance and yielding ground. He ran well in a hot Leopardstown maiden last Christmas before winning at Wexford and while the lacks of a recent run isn't ideal, his Roscommon form is useful and being lightly-raced can progress. Clever Currency is dependable under all codes and while he doesn't appear ahead of the handicapper, should run his usual race. Abbeydale was well held on his latest run in March but is better judged on previous form and debuts in handicaps under a 5lb claimer. Whiskeywealth is rated 13lb lower in this sphere than over fences and finished third on his latest hurdles run in March. Theonewedreamof has won once from 12 hurdle runs and was well held on a recent run. Minx Tiara is rated 6lb higher over fences but was well held on her most recent hurdles outing while Rock On Seamie ran well at Gowran in September. Joey Sheridan has his first jumps ride on long-absent Zoffanien.

WHISKEYWEALTH has a lower mark to work with over hurdles in relation to his chase rating and with a good-value 7 lb conditional on, he has a lot to recommend him. Bowmore is going the right way and is in superb hands so he's a threat, along with Marvel Fan.

The ground appears to come right for CLEVER CURRENCY who has been in fine form of late over fences and on the polytrack
Class & Speed Card

FENLAND TIGER made the perfect start to life over the larger obstacles when winning over course and distance in October. Sam England's gelding must now compete from a 4lb raised mark, but that might not be enough to stop him with improvement on the cards. Return Fire drops in class and he appeals as a leading candidate following a string of solid performances. Motion In Limine only gave way late on over 3m3f at Sedgefield last month, so he might fare better now eased marginally in trip.

RETURN FIRE has made a positive start to the season and can resume winning ways back down in class. Fenland Tiger made it 4 wins from his last 5 starts over C&D on his chase bow/return and is the obvious threat, with Motion In Limine best of the others.

The strongest contender is progressive FENLAND TIGER (nap). Motion In Limine is feared most.
Class & Speed Card

WEE CHARLIE has made steady progress since beginning his career over fences in October, and his most recent effort at Tramore when just outstayed on the run-in, screamed of a winner waiting to happen. He can go one better on the drop in trip, with course winner Misty Hollow looking best placed to chase him home on his first run since March. Hardwired is a big player under these conditions, having won over further on his penultimate start, while Rolly Bowley Boy is another finding his way in this sphere.

WEE CHARLIE looks to have been handed a lenient opening mark on the back of an encouraging second in a Tramore novice last month and he's taken to make a winning handicap chase debut. Fellow handicap newcomers Backintheroom and Pour Pavore have been given considerate rides in their qualifying runs and better can be expected.

A consistent sort over hurdles, WEE CHARLIE gets the vote to score on handicap chase debut after an encouraging display at Tramore
Class & Speed Card

OAKLEY DANCER found it difficult getting through the heavy ground at Leicester last month, although she still performed with credit, and arguably sets the standard on the form of her commanding successes at Chepstow and Newton Abbot. Walk Of No Shame may be winless since February but she has been in consistent form of late, while Shelikesthelights is capable on her day.

A case can be made for all of the quartet but the vote goes to OAKLEY DANCER who posted an excellent third on her seasonal return at Leicester and can build on it to quickly resume winning ways. Jonjo O'Neill captured this prize 12 months ago and his in-form mare Walk of No Shame is next on the list ahead of the consistent Ravenscar.

Walk Of No Shame was a promising 3rd on the return to 2m last time but RAVENSCAR also has a good deal to recommend her.
Class & Speed Card

GETAWAY CHARLIE has recent course and distance form. Runner-up to Corbetts Cross in an October 2022 bumper, he was beaten 22 lengths by Easy Fella last June and while now 14lb better off, he has also improved recently. The winner of his recent C&D race disappointed on a subsequent run but the fourth-placed mare was Grade 3-placed last weekend. Easy Fella debuts for a new yard and while he will appreciate the forecast conditions, lacks a recent run. Bob Cigar was beaten 10 lengths by Ottizzini last May and while the former won recently, Ottizzini's two recent runs were underwhelming. Camino Rock runs from 2lb out of the handicap and hasn't run since August but stays well and was a close third of 25 at the Punchestown festival in April. Mint Boy was a disappointing beaten-favourite at Galway in October but is capable of better and steps up in distance while Kimbara was well beaten in a November Grade 2 at Cheltenham and drops in grade.

KINBARA wasn't disgraced when fourth in a Grade 2 at Cheltenham last month and can resume winning ways back down in class. The progressive Bob Cigar is next best ahead of Easy Fella and Getaway Charlie.

The vote goes to BOB CIGAR who can continue to make progress after a convincing handicap win at Punchestown

JUST CALL ME LUCY caught the eye when staying on into fourth at Aintree on her racecourse debut, a race in which the first three home were all more prominent. She looks set to improve with that initial experience under her belt and is preferred to newcomer Cool Lady Too, who represents a trainer who has a solid record in these types of contests. Golden Point is also noted.

UNSINKABLE MOLLY B travelled strongly when second in a bumper at Wetherby 8 months ago and there's some scope for her to improve with the benefit of that initial experience, so she's narrowly preferred to Just Call Me Lucy, who also made a pleasing start. Cool Lady Too is the pick of the newcomers on paper.

Wetherby runner-up UNSINKABLE MOLLY B is the pick on bumper form. Interesting newcomer Cool Lady Too is second choice.
Class & Speed Card

Given he was a close second in the Champion Bumper at last year's Punchestown Festival, Redemption Day boasts the strongest form and is considered despite this being his first start for 599 days. However, this is a race littered with potential and JALON D'OUDAIRIES, a 420,000-pounds recruit after he won his sole start on the point-to-point sphere, is just preferred with his match fitness proven after comfortably landing a Fairyhouse bumper 15 days ago. Open to any amount of progression, he is a highly appealing horse for Gordon Elliott to go to war with this season. The selection's stablemate The Enabler and previous C&D winner Springt De La Mare are a couple of others to consider.

REDEMPTION hasn't been seen for 19 months but that was when runner-up to Facile Vega and, if he retains that ability he will double his tally on return. Jalon D'Oudairies looks a good prospect and should be feared, while The Enabler is also of interest.

The selection is SCAMALL BAWN who needs to progress appreciably from his win at Cork but, given the yard he's from, can do just that
Class & Speed Card

A respectable third on each of his two starts in maiden hurdles, GLOBE PLAYER looks to have a been given a workable mark on his handicap debut as he looks to get off the mark. The four-year-old seems to have conditions in his favour and may have too much for Swinging London and Realisation, who hasn't been able to replicate the form of her bumper success at Bangor last October in two starts over timber this season.

REALISATION showed the benefit of a tongue tie when a very good Hereford third last time and she can add to her bumper success now stepping into handicap company for the first time. Swinging London comes here in good nick and can go well with the return to further a likely plus, while Sister Michael could emerge as a big threat too if the market vibes prove positive on his comeback run.

Useful bumper winner REALISATION (nap) has her best chance yet since switched to hurdles and this handicap debut doesn't look demanding.

FEMME MAGNIFIQUE finished second on point-to-point debut and while it is a small concern she runs in a tongue-tie, has joined formidable connections. Previously trained by Matthew Flynn O'Connor, the winner of that Carrigarostig point was subsequently sold for 85,000 pounds but has disappointed once in the UK although the beaten final-fence faller subsequently won a maiden hurdle, which adds weight to the form. Stagecoach Mary has run well twice and debuts for a new yard. She was well held in a Gowran Listed bumper in September but that was a strong race and this is a lesser assignment. Pitwood Road won at Curraghmore last April and having run well in a Tipperary point-to-point bumper subsequently, should competitive. Lady Bluebird finished a useful second when beating Amanha by nine lengths into third at Naas last month while Whatsupnellie ran well at Limerick and can progress. Thats All was well beaten when finishing third at Punchestown while Koolio Kate is a half-sister to two winners and might be useful.

FEMME MAGNIFIQUE has already shown plenty in points and represents top connections, so she's a confident choice to make a successful Rules debut. Pitwood Road is the best of those with bumper form and Whatsupnell can't be ruled out.

Femme Magnifique has to be respected for the champion trainer but perhaps PITWOOD ROAD could take the beating
