Runner-up in a point-to-point previously, IDEFIX DE CIERGUES should relish going up to almost three miles, having run with plenty of credit on his last two starts. The six-year-old could not justify short odds over the extended 2m3f here last time out, but he rallied well for second towards the finish and gets the vote ahead of Face D'music, who unseated at Ascot last time out but is better judged on his pair of second-placed efforts at Hereford. Runner-up here last December over shorter, Magical Escape is another to consider.

IDEFIX DE CIERGUES may benefit from a return to this trip and gets the vote over Face d'Music and Coin Basket in a tricky maiden.

He was turned over at odds-on here last time but IDEFIX DE CIERGUES went close in a big-field handicap two starts ago and is selected.

BONZA BOY was one of only two finishers when bounding clear for a facile success on soft ground at Exeter last time out, and a 10lb rise could prove lenient as he aims to follow up under similar conditions. The form of his stable is another plus and he may have too much for the mare Lost Connections, who has not been in action since scoring at Ludlow last May. Runner-up on each of his last three starts over C&D, Walkinthewoods deserves a change in luck but may be vulnerable again.

BONZA BOY is coming good over fences now and still looks on a handy mark despite a 10 lb rise for his wide-margin win at Exeter. Walkinthewoods can fill the runner-up spot once again.

This can go to BONZA BOY, who looked in excellent nick when cruising to a wide-margin success at Exeter last month.

BALLEE may have a 12lb penalty to overcome for a pair of successes at Taunton, but the ease with which he made all last time out suggested that there should be even more to come. Soft ground is a question mark, though he should still have too much class for the likes of Cloud Dancer and Phantomofthepoints, who has yet to rediscover the form he showed when narrowly denied on his hurdles debut at Ayr last December.

It hasn't taken BALLEE to reach a useful level over hurdles despite the fact he's not yet the finished article and he's expected to successfully concede weight all round and complete the hat-trick. Phantomofthepoints and Cloud Dancer can fight it out for second.

Dual Taunton winner BALLEE quickly developed into a very useful novice hurdler in late 2023 and can complete a hat-trick.

Although finishing down the field in the ultra-competitive Grand Annual at Cheltenham last month, CALICO should fare much better in these calmer waters. A reproduction of his runner-up effort at Doncaster in January may prove sufficient, with amateur Sean O'Connor good value for his 7lb claim. The biggest threat may emerge from Prince Quali, who landed a first victory on these shores when scoring over C&D in late February, while Sans Bruit may prove more competitive on this return to chasing.

CALICO found the Grand Annual too tough an assignment last time but had been in good nick prior to that so Dan Skelton's 8-y-o is fancied to bag a first win of the season at the chief expense of C&D winner Prince Quali. Dr T J Eckleburg is 3 lb out of the handicap but still commands respect if backing up his recent Sandown fourth.

Topweight CALICO (nap) has performed well in stronger handicaps than this over the last few months and can dominate from the front.

IL VA DE SOI travelled with a lot more verve in first-time cheekpieces when finding only a progressive rival too strong in a competitive affair at Newbury last month. Harry Derham's gelding finished 24 lengths ahead of the third that day and, now that Alice Stevens' 5lb claim can be used, the six-year-old is effectively racing off a 3lb lower mark. Although thwarted in his hat-trick bid at Uttoxeter in March, One Eye On Vegas was far from disgraced in that third-placed effort and he's feared most, ahead of Florencethemachine.

A reproduction of the form IL VA DE SOI showed when runner-up at Newbury last time could well be good enough to see him go one better here. One Eye On Vegas hasn't looked back since equipped with cheekpieces and is second choice ahead of Herakles Westwood.

The suggestion is IL VA DE SOI, who was a long way clear of the third when second at Newbury last month and remains lightly raced.

SUBLIME HEIGHTS is handicapped to be competitive and a repeat of his penultimate second at Plumpton in January off a 1lb higher mark may suffice in a contest lacking depth on paper. Aeronisi is entitled to improve following his return from a lengthy absence at Doncaster, while Eceparti took a step back in the right direction when runner-up over C&D last month and could have more to offer on this occasion.

The vote goes to ECEPARTI, who clearly likes it here and he's just 3 lb above the mark off which he struck over C&D in November. Aeronisi's spin over hurdles at Doncaster will have blow away the cobwebs and, with the Stellar Stream due to run at Ffos Las on Sunday, he rates the main danger. Sublime Heights is capable of a big run off this sort of mark but he is hard to warm to based on the majority of his performances this season.

Three-time course winner ECEPARTI is not very reliable but he ran well in defeat here a fortnight ago and appeals most.

CELTIC DINO sets the standard based on his victory at Ascot in November and his subsequent third in a Listed event at the same track just before Christmas. Despite giving 7lb and upwards to the opposition, this appears to be a decent opportunity for the five-year-old before going hurdling next season. The Bluesman placed in a Kempton bumper on his Rules debut and shaped as though he would benefit from a stiffer test of stamina. Woodland Park and Shade Of Winter complete the shortlist.

THE BLUESMAN fetched £200,000 after finishing third in a point and showed signs of lingering greenness when filling the same position at Kempton on Rules debut. With that behind he can improve to open his account at the possible expense of Celtic Dino, who drops in grade after placing in listed company last time. Woodland Park is another obvious player.

Celtic Dino is respected but Paul Nicholls' expensive recruit THE BLUESMAN made a very promising rules debut and gets the vote.
Ths is the racecard key.
